Transfering Tables And Data From Oracle To Sql Server 2005
Nov 15, 2006
I have a oracle database that creates a table (to store call records) everyday and places data into it. How can i use Interation services to transfer the newly created tables to an SQL server database (SQL server 2005).
How can I make a connection in SSIS Data Flow to connect to DB2 on the mainfrain? Have several DTS packages in SQL Server 2000 that uses the ODBC connection.
we recently got a scenario that we need to get the data from oracle tables which is installed on third party servers. we have sqlserver installed on ourservers. so they have created a DBLINK in oracle server to our sqlserver and published the DBLINK name.
what are the next steps that i need to follow on my sqlserver in order to access the oracle tables ?
Here is the different problem which is irretating me alot from last 2 weeks. Could any body suggest on this problem?
I am using the ADO.net providerODBC provider connection for Data Reader source. I don't know why the total records are not populating from source(lotun notes db) to Destination (SQL server 2005). The package is populating only 2000 records out of 10000 records. Please suggest me how to fix this problem. There is no error message is coming for this problem
I am racking my brain on this one. I am migrating Oracle data to SQL Server and would like an SSIS package that will copy the oracle data from every table to SQL server. I already have the schema set up in SQL and a straight copy of a specified table works fine between the OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However, when I set up a loop which sets a global variable for the table names, which are identical on both dbs, and try to set the OLEDB Source and Destination OpenRowsetVariable to the global variable, the process fails with these errors with all validation turned off:
[OLE DB Source [18]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
[OLE DB Source [18]] Error: Column "ID" cannot be found at the datasource.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (18) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202005.
To sum up, I want to set the tables dynamically and have them infer the mappings. The names of the columns are already the exact same on each schema, and the data types are mapped accordingly. I have already verified that the names of the tables have been formatted correctly for each database. If I can't do it this way then how?
I would like to export all tables from Oracle 11.2 to MS SQL Server 2012 R1.
Using the tool "Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Oracle" did not work for me because there are too many warnings and errors regarding the schema creation (MS cannot know it because they are not the schema designer). My idea is to leave/skip the schema creation to the application designer/supplier and instead concentrate on the Oracle data export and MS SQL data import.
What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server quickly?
Is it:
- the „MS SQL Import and Export Data“ Tool - the “MS SQL Integration Services” Tool - not Oracle dump *.dmp format because it is a propritery binary format - flat file *.csv (delimited format)
I've read about using starsql odbc and sql server 7.0 DTS utility to transfer the database or data from a DB2 to SQL Server. I have a SQL Server 6.5 and need to transfer data from a DB2. Is the operation the same? Is there a utility in sql server 6.5 that allows this?
HI, I need some help regarding the data access. I needs to access some data from tables which are in oracle and load it into sql server tables. Please let me know the process for this.
When i try to use the Microsoft OLE-DB Drive for oracle in import/Export Wizard, it gives me message that Oracle networking driver is missing. Contact Oracle for this information.
Any idea to further move on this. I am wondering, why SQL Server 2005 does not have that driver.
I want to migrate data from Oracle Database to SQL Server 2005 by using SSIS Package. Client wants to migrate just data not schema. Schema is already there for SQL Server, generated through script.
I tried to migrate the data by using import-export wizard in SSIS. But, its asking for creating new tables when migrating data.
I want to migrate data in existing tables, without dropping already existed tables or creating new tables.
I need to transfer seven tables from Informix DB to SQL Server every night. Any suggestions for the best way of doing it? Is DTS the best way? How about through replication?
Hi I am trying to develop a web based application. I am trying to insert data from my web form into sql server database using stored procedures. I am having a problem while i try to exceute the command. The error given by system is System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQueryany suggestion what am i missing? With Regards,Sameer Jindal
I am using Windows 2003 server and Sqlserver 2005 by the use of Linked server , I made a connection to Oracle 10g after that I am importing records from Oracle to sqlserver 2005. When I made tnsnames.ora in sql machine , it worked fine but when i am using tnsnames file from oracle server then i fiired importing procedure it returns below maintain error :
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS" returned message "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES" for OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "BI_ORACLE_LS". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
How will I be able to transfer table that have stored procedured specifc to them to another server? This is from sql server 7 to another sql server 7. Would this be possible without losing any data or procedure or which ever may be attached to the tables?
I have two SQL servers I am dealing with. I have some tables in one databaseon one SQL server that I want to transfer into a database on the other SQLserver. I want to xerox copy the tables including all primary keys, identities, defaults etc. I used the export/import feature in EnterpriseManger, but when I do it, and view the tables that got imported, all of mydefaults are gone and all the primary keys are gone. What is the best way tojust copy a few tables from one database to another. I do NOT want to copythe entire database from one SQL server to the other, only a few tables. Ijust want to make sure that when they are imported they are exactly the sameas where they came from. THANKS
Hello folks,Are there any tools that can transfer database and it's content fromSQL Server Standard version to SQL Server Express database?I tried to backup database in SQL Server Standard and then restore itinto SQL Server Express but it didn't work. Are there any tools thatcan extract SQL clauses to create database, tablesand data inserts into file? Or any other method to transfer database/data from SQL Server Standard to SQL Server Express?Cheers,
I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.
Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.
So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.
I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good
Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.
When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:
Could not connect source component. Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!
Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.
This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!
This generates 2 questions: 1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection 2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.
I have Table A . we already have 80 columns . we have to add 65 more columns.
we are populating this table from oracle .and we need to populate those 65 columns again from the same table.
Is it a better idea to add those new 65 columns to the same table or new table.
If we go for the same table then loading time will be double, If I go for new table and If i am able to run both the packages which loads table data from same oracle server to difffrent sql tables then we should be good. But if we run in to temp space issues on oracle server . Then i have to load the two tables separately which consumes the same time as earlier one.
I was thinking if there is a way in SSIS where I can pull data from same oracle table in to two diff sql tables at same time?
I am transferring data from Oracle tables into text files, and facing these errors.
1. I have a varaible working as an expression and my query goes into that variable and onwards that variable is passed to dataflow task, which parse the query. my query is simple saying "Select * from PLS.ABC" where PLS is my schema, but the task generates error "Opening a rowset for "Select * from PLS.ABC" failed. check that the table exists in the database. and surely the table is there.
2. I have a foreach loop that iterates through all the table names and the table names are passed onwards to the varaible query, the dataflow task inside the foreach loop gets the variable query and will generate text files based on tablenames which i have supplied in another variable to the connectionstring property of the flatfile destination. Is it possible or not. all the tables have different columns and i need the output in text files.
Does anyone have any great suggestions on how I can import an online XML file into an SQL 2005 table?
So far I tried to accomplish it with SSIS Data Flow Task where my source is XML Source (Data access mode: XML file location; XML location: URL, Use inline schema = True). This set up properly identified the columns to be imported.
I used Copy Column data flow transformation task to load data to OLE DB destination table that has same structure.
When I run the task it does execute with no errors, however the table remains empty. It looks like I am failing to read the actual data.
Do you have any suggestions? I am willing to go around this approach with stored procs/com/you name it just make it work!
hi, i need to transfer data from a table in sql 2005 to another one with the same structure and data type definitions in oracle, i have made data flows in ssis that retrieve data from oracle to sql but none that made the other way...
1. is there any special connection type i must use? 2. do i need an odbc to connect to oracle?
where can i find information about!?? thanks for your help. !!!
I have a SQL Server 2000 database in a remote host and I want to move all my data to another remote (virtual) host, where on both machines I do not have direct access.
Can you advise me what is the best way to make this transition?
there are two developers in different offices and they have started with the same db and keep modifying the stored procedures. in a point they want to update their copies of the DB with each other. Is there a easy way to do this in MS Sql server 2005.

Dear All, I am working on a project to migrate a .net desktop application to web based application using ASP.NET 2.0. The present app has lots of tables with data in sql server 2000. The new app is to have Oracle 10.2 G as data store. Although the data store is being changed most of the tables in the present database will remain same along with the data they hold. My problem is: 1) how to transfer the tables to the new datastore 10.2 G in an automated way? After all it's not possible to create each table afresh in Oracle and then insert records into each table one by one. If that is done it will take atleast few months if not years. 2) can I export the tables to a xml file and then import it from Oracle. How to do that? It has become a nightmare for me. Pls suggest the easiest way and which takes the minimum time. A solution to the problem will be gratefully accepted. Thanks.
My manager told me to link SQL Server database tables to access so that he can access the tables in MSAccess to do his SQL queries. I am thinking of linking server but I am not sure about that. Is someone can tell me what to do and explain me how. Thanks in advance Sincerely. David
We are running SQL Server 2000 SP3. We have linked servers in use thatwe use to access Oracle tables.Recently the claim has been made that you can access Oracle tables fromwithin SQL Server without using a Linked Server. I searched BooksOnline using keywords: linked, remote, and Oracle and did not findanything.A search of the newsgroup archives found only entries related to usingLinked Servers. Is there any such method as claimed? I do not think there is, but Ineed to find some support for my position or else learn something new.Thank you-- Mark D Powell --
