I have an application that's running fine on development servers (web
and database-sql server 2000). I'm updating a record through a third
party component but I don't think the component is the problem. What's
happening is that I'm updating fields that are part of view. I'm only
updating fields in one table of the view and this works fine in the
development environment.
What happens in the production environment when I try to update
(using the third party component) I get the following message:
"Current recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation
of the provider or of the selected locktype."
As an experiment I took the same code but removed the view, leaving
only the table I want to update as the record source. In that case the
update worked. So it seems that something in the production database
doesn't like me updating a view. However I can do that in the database
in the development environment.
The third party component is dbnetgrid which works fine in the
development environment. I can only conclude it's something about the
database that prevents me from updating this same table if it's in a
view. I've talked to our DBA but he says there's no difference between
the databases. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I have a query that seems to take a while to execute and I'm looking into using an indexed view to see if this helps. I use the script below to create the view but when I query it's indexability using:
Here is a very cut down version of the view, only selects the uid! from a single table
IF OBJECT_ID ('GetMessageQueueDetails', 'view') IS NOT NULL
DROP VIEW GetMessageQueueDetails ;
GO
IF sessionproperty('ARITHABORT') = 0 SET ARITHABORT ON
IF sessionproperty('CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL') = 0 SET CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL ON
IF sessionproperty('QUOTED_IDENTIFIER') = 0 SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
IF sessionproperty('ANSI_NULLS') = 0 SET ANSI_NULLS ON
IF sessionproperty('ANSI_PADDING') = 0 SET ANSI_PADDING ON
IF sessionproperty('ANSI_WARNINGS') = 0 SET ANSI_WARNINGS ON
IF sessionproperty('NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT') = 1 SET NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFF
GO
CREATE VIEW GetMessageQueueDetails
WITH SCHEMABINDING
AS
SELECT Uid
FROM dbo.MyTable
GO
I see from See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa933148(SQL.80).aspx that the pre-requsites for indexed views are pretty strict, I have been through this list and think I have everything covered, except for :
"The ANSI_NULLS option must have been set to ON for the execution of all CREATE TABLE statements that create tables referenced by the view."
Is there an easy way to find out if ANSI_NULLS was ON or OFF when the table was created. If it was OFF can I do an ALTER TABLE to turn it on and will that make the view indexable? If so how do I do this with out trashing the data in the table?
I created an updateable partioned view of a very large table. Now I get an error when I attempt to declare a CURSOR that SELECTs from the view, and a FOR UPDATE argument is in the declaration.
There error generated is:
Server: Msg 16957, Level 16, State 4, Line 3
FOR UPDATE cannot be specified on a READ ONLY cursor
Here is the cursor declaration:
declare some_cursor CURSOR
for
select *
from part_view
FOR UPDATE
Any ideas, guys? Thanks in advance for knocking your head against this one.
PS: Since I tested the updateability of the view there are no issues with primary keys, uniqueness, or indexes missing. Also, unfortunately, the dreaded cursor is requried, so set based alternatives are not an option - it's from within Peoplesoft.
Hi theres, I have installed SP2 on my server (Window server 2003 and SQl Server 2005 standard Edition both are 64 bit). But when i query SELECT @@VERSION. i got that latest installed SP is SP1.Even i have installed SP2 successfully and interactively then where m wrong(Window server have Sp2)
I am hoping someone can shed light on this odd behavior I am seeing running a simple UPDATE statement on a table in SQL Server 2000. I have 2 tables - call them Table1 and Table2 for now (among many) that need to have certain columns updated as part of a single transaction process. Each of the tables has many columns. I have purposely limited the target column for updating to only ONE of the columns in trying to isolate the issue. In one case the UPDATE runs fine against Table1... at runtime in code and as a manual query when run in QueryAnalyzer or in the Query window of SSManagementStudio - either way it works fine. However, when I run the UPDATE statement against Table2 - at runtime I get rowsaffected = 0 which of course forces the code to throw an Exception (logically). When I take out the SQL stmt and run it manually in Query Analyzer, it runs BUT this is the output seen in the results pane... (0 row(s) affected) (1 row(s) affected) How does on get 2 answers for one query like this...I have never seen such behavior and it is a real frustration ... makes no sense. There is only ONE row in the table that contains the key field passed in and it is the same key field value on the other table Table1 where the SQL returns only ONE message (the one you expect) (1 row(s) affected) If anyone has any ideas where to look next, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Hello, I currently have two servers, one is a SBS2003 server running SQL 2005 and SSRS (2005) and a 2000 SQL server. I want to extract data from the 2000 server but keep getting this error: "Remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported) When Iooked up this error, the only information I get is telling me that I can't do this in SQL Express, I'm not sure but I think the standard SQL in SBS is at least Workgroup?? What can I do to correct this? Thanks
I am unable to update the data using record by record below scenario.
Required output:
patient will able to Admit/Re-admit multiple times in hospital, if a patient readmitted multiple times in hospital after the first visit, first visit record will get Re-admission=0 and Index=1. This visit should cal Index_Admission of that patient. using this index_admission should calculate the 30-day readmission.
Current Output:
Calculation: From index_admission discharge date to next admit_visit date,
1) if the diff is having less than 30 days, readmission=1 and Index=0
else readmission=0 and Index=1 should be update.
For checking this every time should check using the latest index_admission discharge_date.
To get this result i written below logic, but it's updating readmission=0 and Index=1 after 30-day post discharge of using first index admission.
UPDATE Readmission SET Index_AMI = (CASE WHEN DATEDIFF(DD, (SELECT Sub.Max_Index_Dis FROM (SELECT Patient_ID, MAX(Discharge_Date_Time) Max_Index_Dis FROM Readmission WHERE Index_AMI = 1 AND FPR.Patient_ID = Patient_ID GROUP BY Patient_ID) Sub) , FPR.Admit_Date_Time) between 0 and 31 THEN 0 ELSE 1 END),
Hi All, In SQL Server 7, we had the option of opening a previously saved trace template and running it inorder to run a previously saved trace defintion repeatedly. File > Open > Trace Definition and choosing the Trace Name. Clicking OK would run the trace.
How do we do the same in SQL Server 2000? File > Open > Trace Template opens a Trace template but has only a 'Save' button and I'm therefore unable to run it.
How is it possible to run a previously defined trace repeatedly in SQL server 2000? Thanks in advance, Praveena
I am unable to insert record in a field which is null and unique. It does not accept NULL value again in the same field. It shows error UNIQUE KEY VIOLATION. Please help

I'm trying to set up a transactional replication from SQl Server 2005 to SQl server 2000. The Distributor and the publisher are on our server and the subscription is supposed to be on a SQL 2000 server on a different location. Before upgrading to 2005 I didn't have problems - the replication from 2000 to 2000 was working perfectly.
After I succesfully created the distributor and the publication the first problem that I encountered was that when I tried to create the subscription it was giving me an error that I cannot use an IP to acces the server. I realized to fix that issue by creating an Alias in the SQL Server Configuration Manager for the server where I wanted to create the subscription (a push subscription).
Now when I try to add the subscriber it gives me another message "Execute permission denied on object 'sp_MS_replication_installed', database 'master', owner 'dbo'" - so I cannot create the subscriber.
The user that I use to create the subscriber on the 2000 server is dbo for the subscriber database but it doesn't have rights on the master database. Also I realized that on the 2000 server I still have the old subscription but I cannot delete it - for the same reason - no access on the master database. Before upgrading to 2005 I had the exact same rights on the 2000 server.

I know this is old database but when I download this evaluation from microsoft website, I got problem installing it. First, I unzip it. By default, it is unzip to C:SQLEVAL. Then, I went to install it. I don't which file I should click. So, I double click the autorun file. When I did that, there is a screen, I saw the screen saying "microsoft SQL Server 2000 Evaluation version". Then, I click "SQL Server 2000 Components"
Then, it comes to next page, and I click "Install Database Server". But after I did that, nothing happens! After I click again the same thing all over again, it says "Another instance of setup is already running".
I'm using Window XP Professional. Anyone encounter this problem before? I tried to re-download the file and reinstall but also the same problem. Really need help. Thanks.
I am trying to connect to another computer in my local network which has Windows XP installed. It has SQL server 2000. I get an error message 'Time out period elapsed' when i try to connect to SQL server 2000 thru SQL Server Management Studio Express' Please guide.
I am working in Powerbuilder and SQL Server 2000. Within the application I dynamically Drop then recreate a view named view_selection_list. When another user accesses any screen using view_selection_list the screen will hang on the statement "If Exists (SELECT name FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'view_selection_list' AND type = 'V') DROP VIEW view_selection_list". I also went directly onto the database ran select * from view_selection_list from Query Analyzer. It hangs when the original user creating the view is still active. I know that the issue is locking. I don't know how to fix it.
For example ; String ls_sql ls_sql="If Exists ( SELECT name FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'view_selection_list' AND type = 'V') DROP VIEW view_selection_list " Execute Immediate :ls_sql;
ls_sql="Create View view_selection_list as " Case 'State' ls_sql+=" Select distinct proj_id,'State - '+proj_state title from project where proj_state='"+is_data+"'"
Case 'Project' ls_sql+=" Select distinct proj_id,'Project - '+proj_nam title from project where proj_id='"+is_data+"'"
Case 'All Active Projects' ls_sql+=" Select proj_id,'Project -' +proj_nam title from project where proj_status = 4 and signed_acq_agmt = 'Y' "
End Choose
Execute Immediate :ls_sql;
The SQL Server connection in the application is: SQLCA.DBMS = "OLE DB" SQLCA.ServerName="acq" SQLCA.LogPass ="*******" SQLCA.LogId = "acq" SQLCA.Lock = "RU" SQLCA.AutoCommit = False SQLCA.DBParm = "PROVIDER='SQLOLEDB',DATASOURCE='FSRFIN103'"

I have go thougth few articles in the forum, try to open the sqlce20sql2ksp4.exe file and then run only the MSI, but still fail.

Hello, without going into the politics of why I'm asking, does anyone have a compiled list of functionality that only sysadmin's could do in 2000 that VIEW SERVER STATE permission opens up in 2005?
From the documentation, so far I've found fn_get_sql (and it's dm view) but I'd really like a complete list.
When using Sql Server Enterprise Manager and viewing a Database / Tables section, most of the tables if not all have a create date of 11/5/2004.Except for one, DNN_Users, has a creation date of 7/10/2007What factor could have caused that create date to have changed? What factors go into the date being set on that column in the database design? Does the date get updated say if I were go go in and change a datatype in a table?
we have some reference tables in in a specific database. that other applications need to have access to them. Is it possible to create a view in the application's database to retrive data from ref database while users just have access to the application Database not the view's underlying tables?
I do not insert/update/delete on the view directly.
For every insert/update in table A /B the values should get insert/update in the view respectively. This insert/update on view should invoke the trigger.
And I am unable to see this trigger work on the view if any insert/update occurs on base table level.
Trigger is working only if any operation is done directly on the view.
When I try to do a pull using a view I'm getting the following error message:
€œThe query cannot be tracked. There might not be a primary key, or the query might involve multiple tables. [ Query string = SELECT * FROM DATABASE_NAME.viewname ]€?
but when I do a select col1 from view I get my data. The view has some inner joins included in it, could that be the issue?
NOTE: this is from my handheld device, its not SQL Server related. I posted this earlier in this forum but it was moved to SQL Server.
I get the error on my handheld device and handheld device only

I have some issue when replicating a view (transactional replication).I have following objects on publisher:
Table: [Metadataschema].[Entity] View: [dbo].[EntityLogicalView] the view definition is:
create view [dbo].[EntityLogicalView] as (SELECT * FROM [Entity] WHERE OverwriteTime = 0)
this is what I get when I run "Script View as Create". The same query is used by the replication.Unfortunately this query fails on the subscriber "Unable to replicate a view or function because the referenced objects or columns are not present on the Subscriber". I cannot even runt his query manually on the subscriber, it only works when I change it like this:create view [dbo].[EntityLogicalView] as (SELECT * FROM [Metadataschema].[Entity] WHERE OverwriteTime = 0) Is there any way to get this working? Can I change the creation scripts used by the replication or force publisher to include schema names in all objects?
I am creating a simple application form using visual studio 2015. I can create database.mdf successfully and create dbo.table successfully. but when i tried to view table by expanding the table icon on the server explorer, the table should be able to show list of table but it didn't show any record and why is it like that.
I am trying to update my table Members in my SQL server database "Portfolio".
When I click the button, It throws an exception with the following message: "String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated."
