Uninstalling SQL Server 2005 64-bit In Clustered Environment
May 20, 2008
I am running into an issue trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 64-bit. It hangs at the same point: Removing backup files. I then get a message that, "The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it." The instance that I am trying to uninstall is in a cluster hosting two other SQL Server installations. I have tried a few combinations when attempting to uninstall: running the cluster group containing the server I am uninstalling on a different cluster node than all the other cluster groups; running them all on the same node. The only one I haven't tried is moving the Cluster Group containing the IP address of the cluster, cluster name, etc to another node while running the other groups on the other node. Has anyone run into this issue? Each of the nodes has been rebooted several times during these attempts and we are using Windows Server 2003 Clustering. Again, the hang happens at the same point every time. The exact error(s) from the even log are as follows:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it.
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29530. Failed to set registry settings for server network libraries. The action is SetShilohRoot. The error is 2 (The system cannot find the file specified.
I am looking at combining / consolidating some of our servers and was wondering if I can install SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 in a clustered Environment on a san. Cheers Angie
We are running 2 SQL Server and both run in failover clustered Environment. The Problem is now we need to Replicate a Database from one Virtual SQL Sever to the other.
The Second one (clusterd environment)is stroing their database localy while the First One (clustered environment)is storing database in a shared storage. Note that Both Server are used for sperate purpose , but we now need to set replication on the Other Clustered Setup for Reporting Purpose.
Will it work if we configure replication from One SQL Server Clustered Setup to the Other Clstered Setup. If yes, then please let me know how it can be done ?
I've seen other posts on this topic, but not with error 0x32.
I was attempting to change a CLUSTERED instance of SQL 2005 from dynamic port to static port and in the process have somehow messed it up to the point it will no longer start. Version is 9.00.2047.00
The ERRORLOG has the following

The values have only been changed using SQL Server Configuration Manager (no direct registry changes have been made).
Yesterday, our server 'failed over' to the passive node in our clustered environment. We are running Windows NT, with MSSQL 7.0. What triggered the fail over, according to the logs, was an error in tempdb. Basically, the error said that tempdb could not be expanded, (could not create any more space for tempdb).
The drive that tempdb database is located on has more than enough room. The tempdb is set at 300M, and can grow to over 700M. The drive that tempdb is on has over 19Gig of space on it.
One other important piece of information is that the drive where our production database is on and the tempdb is quite full. The 19 gig that is left over represents only about 5 percent of the disk.
Can anyone shed some light on why the sql server would have failed over when trying to expand tempdb, when there was sufficient resources to handle that growth? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Could this be another error? When we restarted the server (both nodes and the disk array) the production database came back as suspect. Most of the stuff in BOL points to the space issue. The production database is around 37 gig.
I am embarking on a project to upgrade our SQL server environment. I'm curious for some opinions on the relative benefits of Log Shipping versus a Clustered environment and you have any experience that has helped form your opinion on the issue?
I have a two node failover cluster(Active/Passive). I am planning on installing the Report Server database on the failover instance. Do i need to install RS on both the nodes?
I have a server with a fresh install of SQL Server 2000. I accidentilly installed the Sql server 2005 SP1 disk (instead of the actual software). And what it did was a nightmare. It installed the client tools and link them to the 2000 instance. I went back and attempted to install the actual 2005 copy. Ever since I have items in my add/remove that will not uninstall. I removed everything except the 2005 Engine and Analysis services. I've followed the MS article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967) with removal, trying everything. All got removed except the Engine and Analysis services!!!!
I've gone into the registry and reviewed the keys, etc! I've run removal attempts fof both command prompt and add/remove, does not work. I've tried reapplying SP's, etc no luck.
Unless I get these services off I can not install 2005 and 2000 again.
I get the following error when trying to execute a call to a procedure located on a linked server. My source server is within a clustered environment. "Could not relay results of procedure % from remote server %." Straight select T-SQL calls work fine.
Can someone tell me how to make a backup in a sql clustered environment (MSSQL 2000) and how to restore that backup in clustered environment (MSSQL2005)? A step by step backup and restore procedure is appreciated.

I am able to send databasemail on my staging servers which are non clustered but databasemail fails on my clustered production servers. Both production and staging servers sit on the same domain(although the domain controller is sitting on one of the staging servers) I have set up the account and profile and have double checked that it is pointing to the correct SMTP server and to the same one as the staging servers. I have also enabled database mail in surface area configuration. The message gets queued, because i see the 'mail is queued' message. The databaseMail Process also gets started, but during the actual send process I see The following is the error in the databasemail log. Any ideas what could be my problem?

We will be implementing our first SQL cluster in December. Our current plan calls for a shared development/test database server with one physical server, but two SQL Server instances. Our production environment will be a SQL cluster. Is it necessary to create a clustered test environment for testing patches, hot-fixes, etc...?
Recently I have installed Visual Studion Team System 2008 Development Edition in my sytem. Along with this, MS-SQL Server aand MSSQL Server Compact Edition is also installed. I need to install the SQL Server 2005 in my system.
In such a scenario, does the Compact Edition is required? Can I uninstall them and install Sql Server 2005 only? If I uninstall anything, would it cause any problems for the .Net programs to work?
I am trying to set up log shipping in a clustered server environment. I am pretty confused about the location of the shared folder to be created to put backup created by log shipping job. Which drive should I use either local or clustered shared drive to store the backups in primary server and to copy the same in secondary Server?
I am creating a backup strategy for our non-production SQL Server 2005 data. We wish to utiliza the Master/Target Server scenario avaible in SQL Server 2005 with events directed to the Master Server. The question I have is what is the symptoms from the Target Servers if the Master Server fails and is unavailable for whatever reason there might be? I can change the event notification back to local server, but what other impact is there and are there any recommendations as to handle a Master Server outage so Maintenance plans can continue to execute as scheduled on Target Servers.
I have to spend an extra money on hardware if my PC hardware environment for installing SQL Server 2005 is not enough. Please tell me about it. It might be a RAM requirement? I don't know.
i have gone through the thread which had the same subject but still it didn't work out..
i have even removed SQL 2005 install bits using msicuu2.exe but still i can find SQL 2005 in my programs list in start menu....
Can anyone please let me know how i can remove SQL 2005 completely when it does not show up in Add/Remove programs and WindowsInstaller Cleanup Tool but i can still find it if i navigate to Start --> All programs --> Microsoft SQL Server 2005......
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS)
I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. I've tried some of them like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887993 or even this one: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/991c9178ceab8f58/8f1a447aa60ad837?lnk=st&q=reporting+services+the+server+is+not+responding&rnum=3&hl=en#8f1a447aa60ad837
But this doesn't work.
I've checked both event viewer both web server and SQL server, but I can't see any information that tell me what had happened.
I also look at BOL, but doesn't help much.
Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?
I cannot install the new version of sql 2005 because it will not install when the beta version is installed. However when I try to uninstall the beta version it says it needs .Net framework 2.0. I have .Net framework 2.0 and so I am stuck with what to do next. Ideas anyone?
I installed MS Express 2005 a few years ago and now I want to uninstall it and reinstall 2008. I played with 2005 but never used it for anything but now I need to get serious about it because my job is requiring it. I installed 2005 express compenents like SQL server, VB, C, ect... When I go to my programs and try to add/remove any of the 2005 express components the uninstall 'install' just hangs. I choose the option to uninstall the component (not reinstall or repair) but no matter what I try it hangs. After it hangs if I try to uninstall another component it says cannot perform the task because another install process is running. I even let the uninstall sit for 45 minutes to see if it would finish but the process is not using any CPU and the progress bar does not move so it is truly hung. I briefly tried an uninstaller but it crashed too. Any clues on what to do next or what I should try to clean my machine so I can install express 2008? Thanks.
Environment:SQL Server 2005 Enterprise in Win2k3 Enterprise on 32(x86) bit machine I am able to enable the Trace Flag 1400 using DBCC TRACEON (1400) GO. Only then we can able to configure for the ENDPOINTS. I successfully configured the ENDPOINTS for both the principal server and Mirror server .And then when I started the START MIRRORING. I got the error message. Please find the Message below. An error occured while starting mirroring. additional Information: :..>Alter failed for Database 'KQDB', (Microsoft SqlServer.Smo) :..>An exception occured while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch [Microsoft SqlServer.Connection.info] :..>Database mirroring Transport is disabled in the endpoint configuration. [Microsft SQL Server,Error: 1486]
If anyone have a solution on how to setup a database mirroring environment. Please send.
I would like to upgrade a production active/passive SQL Server 2000 cluster to SQL Server 2005.
I've read all of the documentation I could find, and doing an in-place upgrade seems to be the way to go. (Despite the fact it scares the hell out of me.
But throughout all the documentation, I've yet to see some simple and fairly important questions answered.
How does the process of upgrading SQL Server work when you're dealing with a cluster?
Do you upgrade one machine then the other? If so, do you upgrade the active node first, or the passive node?
What happens if you're forced to failover from one instance to the other before you've had a chance to upgrade both to 2005? In other words, you failover from 2005 to 2000. Would that even work?
What happens if your upgrades fails for some reason? Is it easy to rollback the installation? If not, will reinstalling SQL Server 2000 cause any issues? Will it remember the previous configuration and simply fix the broken install?
I am unclear as to which Ip address to change the standard port on. When setting up a cluster you have multiple IP address's including the nic that is used for the heartbeat. I have not found any documention on how to change both nodes to listen on a port other than 1433..
