Update Trigger, Multiple Rows, Non Static Primary Key

Jul 17, 2007

Hello,

Anyone know how to create an update trigger where the primary key isn't fixed.

If the primary key change how can I tie together the Deleted and Inserted tables if more than one row is updated?

SQL Server 2012 :: Trigger For Update Action Without Primary Key

Jun 18, 2015

I am writing a trigger for getting values to auditlog table when the values gets updated. Below is the code of my trigger.

CREATE TRIGGER [dbo].[Update_Temp] ON [dbo].[Temptable1] FOR UPDATE
AS
DECLARE @bit INT ,
@field INT ,
@maxfield INT ,
@char INT ,
@fieldname VARCHAR(128) ,
@TableName VARCHAR(128) ,

[Code] ....

The code is working fine when the table has primary key associated. However due to some restrictions I will not be able to have a primary key for some tables. I want to implement the same trigger in those tables too. When there is primary key, that primary key needs to get inserted into the audit table and if there is no primary key, i want a specific column value to get inserted instead of the primary key value into the audit table.

For example, i have a student table in which there is a student id, name, dob. there is no primary key defined for the table. So when i update the name or dob, i need the student id to get inserted into the Pk column of the audit table.

I tried modifying the code by checking the @pkcols for Null and if its null to get the old value as the primary key however I was not able to do it .

Jun 1, 2006

Hi i've searched a lot with no results, im trying to do a trigger, this is the scenario

Got 3 tables, Product, Lines, Sublines

If Update Multiple sublines it should be updated to the products table, but i cant because the inserted table has multiple rows, the only way to do this is using cursors???

(Note, i cant do this using cascade because there are others, if i include this get a circular problem so i have to solve this other way)

Trigger To Update Field From Rows

Feb 21, 2013

I'm tracking sales reps and the companies they represent. I have 2 tables. A header table that has the SalesRep (a key field) the name, phone, address, etc.A line file that will have the sales rep multiple times, each line having a vendor they represent.

SalesRepHeader table:
SalesRep name phone VendorList
Bob Bob_Smith 111-222-3333
John John_Young 123-456-56789
Mary Mary_Kerns 567-876-98765

[code]...

Whenever the SalesRepLine file is added to or updated I want the header file field VendorList to be updated with a concat of the vendors for this sales rep so the SalesRepHeader file would look like this.

SalesRep name phone VendorList
Bob Bob_Smith 111-222-3333 Samsung, Kenwood, JVC
John John_Young 123-456-56789 Apple, HP

I need the update to be automatic.

Trigger For Multiple Db Update

Oct 30, 2003

I have a messy design that I can't change but need to keep in synch. I have a master table where a person's info is entered into. Upon that entry I have to take that info (name, bdate,ssn,location) and populate it to 4 separate tables in 4 separate databases, all of which have their own id field which has to be incremented (no none of them are identity columns). At the end of the process I have to update the master record with the id fields of all the other four tables. I was going to do this with an insert trigger. As far as protecting the id's across all four databases, I was going to use a begin trans and get the next id field for all four databases and then apply the logic to add the records. Does this seem a safe approach, or am I missing something? Do I need to do a begin tran for each database separately?
THanks

Insert Multiple Rows With A Trigger That Invoke A Function

Jan 17, 2012

Multiple rows to insert:
---------------------
insert into Customer(CustomerId,Name,Value)
select CustomerId,Name,Value
from CustomerTemp

Trigger in Customer table that invoke a function:
alter TRIGGER [dbo].[Calculation] ON [dbo].[Customer]
AFTER INSERT
AS

update Customer
set Percentage = dbo.GetPercentage((select Value from inserted))
where CustomerId = (select CustomerId from inserted)

I'm getting the error for the multiple row.Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.Is there a way to let me insert multiple rows, using the trigger that invoke a function ?

Error On Trigger When Doing Multiple Row Update?

Apr 15, 2014

I have the following trigger that updates a couple test fields to null when they are 1/1/1900, works great on inserts, and one line updates:

CREATE TRIGGER UpdateDate
ON test
AFTER INSERT, UPDATE
AS
UPDATE Test
SET
[CheckDate] = CASE WHEN [CheckDate] = '19000101' THEN NULL ELSE [CheckDate] END,
[CheckDate2] = CASE WHEN [CheckDate2] = '19000101' THEN NULL ELSE [CheckDate2] END
where AutoID = (select AutoID from inserted)

However, when trying to do a multi line update statement, I get the following error:

Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UpdateDate, Line 7

Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.The statement has been terminated

How can I get around this?

IF Statement To Update Multiple Rows

Oct 12, 2007

Hi,

I am writting a bit of SQL that takes data from one table then inserts it into another one. There is a field that can be any value (and is usually null), but when I insert the value in the new table then I want to execute:

IF table.field>0 then tabl2.field='400'. In other words for every row in the selection that has a field that is greater than 0 then '400' will be put into the new table.

I am not sure if the IF stamement can loop through a number of rows and execute depending on the value of a field in that row??

Thanks

Adding Static Rows

Mar 5, 2008

Hi,

I have a data; descriptions (types of elements in my system) on rows, and results (numeric values) of different branches for each description on columns. I have one entry (one row) for each individual day (so i have year, month and day columns) I prepared a report for this data (using enable drilldown; year --> month --> day --> description and its numeric values on the row) But I have to add new descriptions using my own descriptions, like formulas... My descriptions and my new descriptions made of with old ones, should be listed one under the other

For ex;
new_description = (descr1 + descr2) / descr7

Can I do this on report design step? If so, how?

Update Multiple Rows In A Single Query?

Jul 30, 2007

I know this isn't right but I'm trying to build a single query in PHP to re write the sortorder column starting at 0 and writing every row in order.

Code:

update categories set (sortorder=0 where catid=32), (sortorder=1 where catid=33),(sortorder=2 where catid=36) where userid=111

PHP Code:

 $qt="update categories set ";
for($i=0;$i<$num;$i++){
    $a=$i+1;
    $qt.="sortorder=$i";
    if($a<$num){
        $qt.=", ";
    }
}
$qt.=" where userid=111";

Using PHP I can amend the loop above to slot in a row I want so I can change the sort order.

unfortunately I'm not sure how to build such a query in mssql, can anyone help?

Transact SQL :: How To Update Multiple Rows In Different Transactions In A Single Table

Jul 16, 2015

We have control table which will be useful whether we need to start the job or not. If we are starting the Job we will make it to 1.

Below is the Table Structure.

Table Name       IN_USE_FG
CUST_D                     0
PROD_D                     0
GEO_D                       0
DATE_D                     0

Now we have different packages for 4 tables data loading. These 4 packages will start at a time. Before going to load the data we have to make the Flag to 1 and after that we have to load it. Because of this we have written Update statement to update the Value to 1 in respective Package.

Now we are getting dead lock because we are using same table at a same time. Because we are updating different records.

SQL Server 2012 :: Update Table Based On Existing Values In Multiple Rows?

Oct 1, 2015

The objective is to identify orders where an order fee has been applied incorrectly. I have multiple orders per customer, my table contains an orderID and a customerID. Currently if the customer places additional orders before the previous orders have been closed/cancelled, then additional fees are being applied.

Let's say I'm comparing order #1 to order #2. I need to identify these rows where the following is true:-

The CustID is the same.

Order #2 has a more recent order date.

Order #2 has a FeeDate Before the CancelledDate of Order #1 (or Order #1 has no cancellation date).

So in the table the orderID:2835692 of CustID: 24643 has a valid order fee. But all the subsequently placed orders have fees which were applied before the first order was cancelled and so I want to update the FeeInvalid column with a 'Y'. The first fee will always be valid.

I think I understand why the code I am trying doesn't achieve the result I want but I can't figure out how to write it correctly. Below is one example of code I've tried and also code to create the table and insert some test data.

update t1
SET FeeInvalid = 'Y'
FROM MockData t1 Join MockData t2 on t1.CustID = t2.CustID
WHERE t1.CustID = t2.CustID
AND t2.OrderDate > t1.OrderDate
AND t2.FeeDate > t1.CancelledDate

Msg 6573 - Method In Assembly Is Not Static - How Do I Make It Static ?

Feb 22, 2006

I'm using Delphi 2006 to create a DLL which will be integrated into SQL 2005. It's been a long road and I've made a lot of headway, however I am currently having the following problem creating the stored procedure:

My dll name is 'Crystal_Reports_Test_01'
In the DLL, my class is named 'Class01'.
In the DLL, my procedure is named 'TestMe'

I've managed to integrate the DLL into SQL using the following statement:

CREATE ASSEMBLY TEST_ERIC_01
AUTHORIZATION dbo
FROM 'c:mssqlassembliescrystalreports.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE

I am attempting to create the stored procedure which points to the 'TestMe' method inside of the DLL. FYI: 'CrystalReports' is the namespace above my class that I had to add in order to get it to locate the class. The following code is used to create the stored procedure:

create procedure dbo.Crystal_Reports_Test_01(
@Parm1 nvarchar(255)
)
as external name TEST_ERIC_01.[CrystalReports.Class01].TestMe

But I get the following error:

Msg 6573, Level 16, State 1, Procedure Crystal_Reports_Test_01, Line 1Method, property or field 'TestMe' of class 'CrystalReports.Class01' in assembly 'CrystalReports' is not static.

I'm not sure what this means exactly. I think it means the method (the procedure) is not using Static method binding but should be. I have no idea what this really means or how to accomplish this in the DLL - or if I'm even going about this in the right way.

Any help would be appreciated ! I'll post the Delphi code (DLL) below.

Thanks,

Eric Gooden

library CrystalReports;uses System.Reflection, System.Runtime.InteropServices;...................type Class01 = class public procedure TestMe([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr)] var sVarString: wideString); export; end;procedure Class01.TestMe([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPWStr)] var sVarString: wideString); export;begin sVarString:= 'Lets change the value and see if the stored proc. gets the change.';end;end.

I plan then on creating a schduled job so the script runs weekly.The 3 queries i plan to use are below.Insert statement:INSERT INTO TBL_TIMESHEETS (TBL_TIMESHEETS.USER_ID,TBL_TIMESHEETS.WEEK_ENDING, TBL_TIMESHEETS.IS_SUBMITTED)VALUES ('user ids', 'week end date', '0')Get User Ids:SELECT TBL_USERS.USER_ID from TBL_USERS where TBL_USERS.IS_ACTIVE = '1'Get last date of the weekSELECT DATEADD(wk, DATEDIFF(wk,0,getdate()), 6)I'm having trouble combing them as i'm pretty new to this. Is the bestapproach to use a cursor?If you need anymore info let me know. Thanks in advance.

Use Trigger To Generate Primary Key

Jan 27, 2004

I have create a recursive triggers in tblIncident. The PKID is the primary key in tblIncident, in this trigger, i'm trying to generate an auto increament primary key from the stored procedure GetMaxId and update to tblINcident, but I face a problem where PKID does not refresh the latest PKID, it always show the default value 0, until I requery the table. How to get the latest PKID?

/* Trigger in tblIncident */
CREATE TRIGGER GetPKID
ON tblIncident FOR
INSERT AS
DECLARE @PKID int
DECLARE @NEWVALUE int
DECLARE PKID_Cursor CURSOR FOR SELECT tblIncident.PKID FROM tblIncident, inserted
where tblIncident.PKID = Inserted.PKID
OPEN PKID_Cursor
BEGIN
FETCH NEXT FROM PKID_Cursor INTO @PKID

WHILE (@@fetch_status = 0)
BEGIN
SET @NEWVALUE = 0
/*Call stored procedure - getmaxid to get the latest PKID */
EXECUTE GetMaxId "IN", @NEWVALUE OUTPUT
Update tblIncident SET PKID = @NEWVALUE WHERE PKID = @PKID

FETCH NEXT FROM PKID_Cursor INTO @PKID
END
END

CLOSE PKID_Cursor
DEALLOCATE PKID_Cursor
