Visual Studio GUI Forcing Negative Increment Values

Hi,
I'm starting out with Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server CE and have come unstuck at the first hurdle.
I have performed the below simple steps:
1. I have created a table with an identity field in it. The identify increment is a positive value (1). This works fine and I can populate data to the table directly.
2. I drag the table adapter from the dataset to a form to create a datagrid form.
When I run this form, the field for the identify column populates with negative values and when I go to save the record the application errors.
Note: this only happens with SQL Server CE. I do exactly the same with a server based db and get positive increments via the form.
The simple-ugly solution is to just set a negative increment in the table to match what is going on via the form, but this strikes me as a cop out. It is most likely that I am overlooking something obvious and I would be very appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction.
Our project is on SSIS 2012 and we are using the project deployment model. We have parameter the connection managers, created environments, environment variables and configured the references. Hence, when we deploy the solution to higher environments, the connection strings are picked from the environments and not the ones stored in the connection manager.
However, we face issues when in development environment, we need to run the same package but by entering the values manually in the connection manager. Even though the connection details are correct, when we execute the package from Visual Studio, SSIS is not able to connect to the database. Is there any way to have SSIS prompt for the connection details after we have click on "Execute Task" or "Start" from Visual Studio?Â
I'm using an ObjectDataSource in Visual Studio to retrieve records from a SQL Server 2005 database. I have a very simple dilemma. In a table I have fields FirstName, Surname, Address1, Address2, Address3 etc. None of these are mandatory fields. It is quite common for the user not to enter data in Address2, Address3, so the values are <null> in the SQL table. In Visual Studio 2005 I have an aspx form where users can pass search parameters to the ObjectDataSource and the results are returned according to the passed in parameters. The WHERE clause in my Table Adapter is:WHERE (Address1 LIKE @Address1 + '%') AND (Address2 LIKE @Address2 + '%') AND (Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%') AND (FirstName LIKE @FirstName + '%') AND (Surname LIKE @Surname + '%') If, for example, I simply want to search WHERE FirstName LIKE ‘R’, this does not return any results if the value of Address3 is <null> My query is this: Could someone please show me the best way in Visual Studio 2005 to return records even if one of the Address fields is <null>. For reference, I have tried: Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%' OR IS NULLThis does work, however itsimply returns every instance where Address3 is <null> (accounting for about 95% of the records in the database). Basically in the stored procedure that creates the table the query includes:
Profit = CASE Sale WHEN 0 THEN 0 ELSE (Sale - Cost) END, which is wrong when sale and cost is negative the formula becomes (-Sale + Cost).... I want it to be -(Sale-Cost) (where sale any cost ignores negative sign.....
I have the following query, I would like to know if I can replace negative values with a zero and if a posiive value appears then leave the value alone?
I´m working with chart type bar (Simple Bar) and i received four values from stored procedure, all values are negative numbers. The Reporting Service shows the values in the chart, but, doesn't show the "bars".... If one of four values will be positive, the report shows the values and the "bars" but if all values will be negative, the report shows just de values.
What do I do for the bars appear with four negative values ?
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?
I am new to visual studio and I am still not sure of all its components and features.

I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool.
How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase.
Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology.

I have created a database under management studio and i want it to be connected in visual studio but it failed the error msgs said that the database can't be connected coz the database with same name exits but that is not true
I have a DTS package that imports excel spreadsheets. The excel spreadsheet cells contain numbers based on vlookups. Now negative values appear in these cells as -999 but when loaded into the table they appear as (999). Is there anyway way to configure it to just load -999? The tricky part is I don't have control over the format of the spreadsheet cell and the destination table field is varchar. I am hoping there is some way that the DTS interprets and picks up the value as it is displayed in excel. Or do I have to stick with converting it manually by replacing '(' and ')' with nothing and appending '-'?
Could anyone, please, explain to me why I have negative values inRowModCtr column in sysobjects table? I have tested that after I updatestatistics the RowModCtr column is reset to 0. But why do I havenegative values in the first place? Thx.

I have a table that displays a bunch of data based on their percentage changes.
There is a parameter (let's say 5%) that the user can set to display only the data which either increased more than 5% or decreased more than 5%.
I want to have a space between the positive changes and the negative changes. ie, to create a blank row between the +'s and the -'s. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
I have both positive and negative values in a single column, where I want sum total of positive values & negative values. Is there any Expression for this to sort out.

I'm very confused. I installed Visual Studio 2005 and thought I understood that SQL Server 2005 came with it, but it appears that it's SQL Server 2005 - Express. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to get Data Transformation Services loaded or the equivalent of DTS in SQL Express?
When I try to create a database that will have fields for a date and a time the only data type option in visual studio is datetime. This stores data as dd/mm/yyyy-00.00.

I want to install SQL on the same machine as VS 2005 Pro for development.While trying to install the version of SQL that comes with the VS 2005 ProI'm getting error messages and the SQL engine will not start. Hi there, I am a newcomer to SQLExpress. I have installed Visual Studio 2005 and have been playing with it. Now I need to make a DB project with SQL server but I can not find a way to run the scripts (provided) to create the database I need.
