I am trying to edit an SSIS package due to a change in the schema of one of the source tables. When I open the package in Visual Studio, I see the exclamation mark on the object but before I can make change or go to edit anything in the package, I hear the "dumphhh" sound that indicates an error. There is no dialogue box but the program is now locked up. Then after 10 - 20 seconds the program closes.
How am i supposed to add the new column to the data source metadata if I can't edit the package?
I'm creating a new Integration Services Project that copies data out of a SQL 7 server, transforms it, and places the data on a SQL 2005 (SP 2) Server. When defining a lookup transformation, if I specify an OLE DB Connection to my server running SQL 7 as the reference table, as soon as I click on the Colums tab, Visual Studio closes / crashes and dumps me to windows. I don't get an error message. If however I specify a connection to a server running SQL 8, or SQL 2005, no problems.
Is this supposed to happen?
My workstation is running Windows XP Pro SP2, Visual Studio 2005 Pro.

The server that doesn't work for a reference table is running Windows 2000 Server SP4 SQL 7.00.623
I am not able to see the Data Source in Visual studio 2012. I have tried several things like 'Alt + shift + D' which is meant to bring up the datasource tab but it does not. I have also looked in view->Other windows but its not displayed there.
I am using sql server 2005 standard edition and i have installed MSXML core services 6 and also ADOMD.net for analysis services. i am using visual studio 2005 version of 8.0.5072742 and the problem that i am facing is when i use to develop reports using Analysis services as a data source , the error message pops up and VS 2005 gets crashed.
i could define the dataset , layout part and when i prees the preview , it gets crashed. could any one help me on this problem to sort out.
The goal is to address visual source safe database on the network. We have the srcsafe.ini in the network as \ipaddrsrcsafe.ini. Now I create a new VSSDatabase object and call its OpenDb. Well for simple consle app or winform it is ok. But I was running it under Sql server Stored Procedure. It failed for I cannot access the source safe path throgh the COM object.
I know it is because of Windows identity. Without the commented line "// VSS_Database.ImpersonateCaller = true", this does not work at all. It just behave like no changes to the windows identity. However if I add this code, well, OpenDb will result in a No-response query. The Sql server is running the query with no responses. Have you ever met that before? I am really frustrated. Thanks
I am sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question but I can not find better fit. I am using Visual Studio 2005 to write an asp.net web site which includes an SQL data base. In the databaseI have a table called 'ACCOUNTS' which has primary key column called 'ID' and a nvarchar column called 'Name'. I want the values in the 'Name' column to be unique in the table so that all accounts have unique names. I don't want to make the 'Name' column the primary key because I want people to be able to change the name of their account after it has been created. It seems to me there must be some way to add such a constraint to the table but I can find none. I have searched the documentation and seen loads of references to unique columns but I can't find any way to set a column to unique thru the IDE (or any other way). Can anyone help me? I have an assignment where I am asked to create a test report with Cascaded parameters in a report for use on an Intranet. Found a good guide on a site named slqtips. The only problem is, that when I have created my data source, my data sets and my queries, I should go to the window "Report parameter properties", for specifing the data which should be included in the choices in the report, and I cannot find it! As a matter of fact the milieu I work in, Report designer in Visual Basic Studio Shell 2013, on a MS SQL 2012 Server, looks different in many way compared to the guide. It actually also differs from the Pictures in the book "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services" I also try to use for the purpose.Am I perhaps working in the wrong place, or what can the problem be? Is this Visual basic 2013 Window some kind of upgrade which is different from the original version where you used to work with Report designer?

I've used the Balanced Data Distributor with Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2012 successfully. I've now installed BIDS 2013 and I'm trying to get the Balanced Data Distributor to appear again in the SSIS Toolbox.
I've installed the x86 and x64 version and it won't appear. I've tried the new version which is supposed to have a fix for some SQL Server 2008 issues but I get the message:
The installation is not successful. Check the following prerequisites: 1. Either Integration Services or BIDS has to be installed. 2. The version of these components has to be either SQL Server 2008 SP2 (or future SPs) or SQL Server 2008 R2 (or future SPs).
That seems this version only works for SQL Server 2008.
Basically i'm trying to create an SSIS workflow to download Sharepoint List data to SQL Server on a schedule of some kind.do we actually have to use the GAC install approach in order to get the Sharepoint List Destination and Sharepoint List Source entries to appear on the SSIS Project workflow entities?
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?

How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase.

I need help with my data reading source which is XML Source. I have a variable which specifies the URL that the XML needs to be grabbed from and I am generating the xsd based on the contents of the URL.
Now as long as the URL has the data which is coming from webservice, it works fine. But if the URL is not correct or need additional information. The XML Schema changes to let the user know that "city" information for example is needed. This message and XML is completely different if the URL sends the required data.
I want to know how to send an error message or some kinda of message so that another activity would be done if the URL needs the city information.
I tried placing an XML source another one, for that error message. But because thats one line, just asking for city information. XML souce has no columns in it. So I have a feeling that even before getting into the XML source... data in the XML file needs to be checked. And how can I do taht I dont know..
I have an Excel add-in that connects to a SQL Server Express 2005database. I've decided to create a configuration piece for this add-inin Visual Studio 2005 Express. I added a data connection using the dataconnection wizard and all appeared to go well. Anyways when I attemptto open SQL Server Express to administer the database, it was corruptedand I had to restore it.I eventually got it to work correctly (I'm pretty sure I followedpretty much the same steps as before), but I was just wondering ifanyone had experienced problems like this? I find it a bit scary thatit may be that easy to corrupt the database by just creating a dataconnection.

When I try to create a database that will have fields for a date and a time the only data type option in visual studio is datetime. This stores data as dd/mm/yyyy-00.00.
