What Kind Of Data Can Cause A SSIS Package To Fail?
Feb 23, 2007
Hi,
I am likely to work on moving our ETL system from SQL server 2000 to SQL server 2005. Code is being re written. I wanted to know from anyones previous experience like what kind of activity/data can cause a package to fail. I need to check that a certain package fails and logs error to the server error log and stops. And also check that a certain package fails, logs an error to the server error logs but continues to run.
Any thoughts in this regard would be very helpful for me.
I have created a SSIS master package. It is contains two child package. The master package is running in fine .
But i am calling the master package in the sql server agentjobs, the following error coming.
An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'test1'."
I would like to fetch the data flow component name while package is executing. Since system variable named [System::SourceName] only fetches name of the control flow tasks? Is there a way to capture them?
I have a package that import data from one DB to another DB. The package work fine but the scheduled job give me this error:
DTSRun: Loading... DTSRun: Executing... DTSRun OnStart: Transfer SQL Server Objects DTSRun OnError: Transfer SQL Server Objects, Error = -2147024893 (80070003) Error string: Error source: Help file: Help context: 0 Error Detail Records: DTSRun OnFinish: Transfer SQL Server Objects DTSRun: Package execution complete. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
I need to fail the package intentionally if Send EMail task executes. How can I do that? I know there is a property FailPackageOnfailure, that fails the package on task's failure, but how can I fail the package on task's successful execution?

I'd like to use a SQL Task to execute a stored proc, which checks for a value, and if I don't like the result, raise an error. If the stored proc fails I'd like the package to fail as well.
When I run the stored proc outside of the package, it fails as it should. However, when I run it in the package, the package does not fail. It moves on to the next task and completes normally.
Have a parent package that calls many child packages (over 30) for a daily data warehouse update. On any given day, it randomly fails to call a child package with the following error:
Error 0x800706BE while preparing to load the package. The remote procedure call failed.
Its not failing the same package each day. I need a better explanation of this error message.
Environment: SQL2005 Enterprise Dec2005 RTM on Itanium64 with Windows DataCenter.
I am working with the ssis packages.I am working in the development enviroment.Once i place them on the server all my connection to text files fails.I dont want to sit and Keep changing with respect to server again and again.
What is the best way to set connection like for example:in my development it can be on e:data folder But on server F:Data With me changing again and again, can this be set within the package in the development environment.
I have a SSIS package that has several Execute SQL Components. One of the first components reurns a Full Result Set of IDs based on a stored procedure call. The stored procedure can return multiple rows. I store the results to an ADO recordset (object variable) to be used later. I want the component to fail, and the package if the return of the stored procedure is zero records. What is the best way to do this? I had a raise error statement if @@rowcount was zero but this did not fail the component. Any other suggestions?
Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.
i have a package that contains a foreach loop container, in this container i have sql tasks, and execute package tasks, that end with a send mail task. if there something wrong with the smtp server, or it's down, the send mail task fails the package. i don't want this to happen, what i want that if the send mail taks fails, the package will continue it's execution.
--i thought of using the event handler... but i don't know if it works...
Why does the Execute Package Task in SSIS always fail when set to execute in-process?
Having ExecuteOutOfProcess = False always results in that the package fails when run from within BI Studio.
I have also tried it from Command Line using dtexec., same results.
The problem with setting ExecuteOutOfProcess = True all the the time and running from within Bi Studio is that an enourmous amount of processes is created, none of which die because SSIS runs in Debug mode, another problem which is there doesn't seem to be a way to run it in Release mode so as not to get so many Dtexec processes, which ultimately results in having the Server die.
By Dying I mean, thrashing of the CPU & Memory. Page file to extreme limits.
And yes, the hardware should be able to take much more than what SSIS is supposed to eat. Dual 3GHz Xeon & 4GB of Ram.
I have an error when a package is trying to execute a SubPackage using the "Execute Package Task". I have this problem for all packages that are running sub packages.
The packages are stored in the DTSPackages folder of the SQL Server installation folder.
The master package is called from an Event Handler on a document library in MOSS 2007.
The account from the Sharepoint Application Pool has Full Control on the DTSPackages folder.
I have a Issue table which stores the below data for many issue. some issue are duplicate to other and they are stored in a field Duplicate_of
ID Duplicate_of State
77637 65702 Duplicate
65702 42217 Duplicate
42217 - Verified
i wanted to write a query or some stored procedure when passed 77637 should help me get 42217.
Hint : 77637 when passed has field Duplicate_of which point to 65702 and his state will be Duplicate, 65702 will be duplicate to 42217 and state will be duplicate and 44217 is not duplicate to anything and state will be other then Duplicate
i appreciate if somebody can help me think in some line to give me some idea.

I have a Send Mail Task in my control flow to notify users that the processing is done. I want to avoid the package to fall in error if the Send Mail task failed.
What is the best practice to do that ?
Should I raise the MaximumErrorCount of theSend Mail Task ? Should I play with ErrorHandler ?
I have created a data flow task. In that, in a 'data conversion', if a column fails validation then that row is redirected to a script component, which in turn writes the error to a variable.
But though the error is generated and script component receives the error, package doesnt fail.
Is there any way to set the package result to failure inside the script component? I tried set 'FailPackageOnFailure' to true but doesnt work.
Does anyone know how to force a SSIS step to fail? I don’t want to export a file if no records were written.
I found this but not quite sure how to implement it: To do this, double-click on the connector line joining 2 of your ExecuteSQL tasks and change the "Evaluation operation:" to any of the options that include "Expression". This enables you to enter a boolean expression that must evaluate to true for the path to be followed. Assuming you've got an int parameter called "sp1rtnvalue" which must evaluate to 1 for the flow to continue; your expression would be: @sp1rtnvalue == 1
Am I suppose to define a @sp1rtnvalue in the stored procedure that creates the file I want to monitor? Do a record count in the stored procedure. In my pkg I enter the expression @sp1rtnvalue == 1 when I run that step the expression will evaluate to false and fail?
If so where exactly do I enter the Boolean expression (@sp1rtnvalue == 1) , what tab in what dialog/wizard??
I am currently going through a DTS package which I use to build my DW after changes all the connections I fired it and
"Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the equal to operation.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. Any ideas?
I have to read a database column in my VB script which basically contains XML data. My requirement is to read that column and then retrieve couple of nodes within that dataset and then based on those values ....i have to execute a procedure....
Can anyone please let me know how to traverse a XML document in VB Script
I currently have a export that takes data from my SQL Server 2005 DB and exports it into Excel. This process works correctly. My excel template has the first row headers and the data is dumped in the row after the header. I would like to know if it is possible for me to add borders around my data without doing it within the template? I don't know how much data is going to be exported so I can't put borders within the template. I put borders around the headers to see if it will copy the formatting down to the data and it didn't. Thank You for any help.
I need to create a trigger that whenever there is data found in a certain table it must execute a SSIS package. If there is a process in SSIS or a way to manipulate the process to check if there is data and then schedule the package that would also help.
What i've done:
I have an SSIS package that searches for data in a table, copies the data into a flat file and places the file onto a FTP server, which it then renames the file so that the server will accept the flat file once it's in a specific folder, after that it moves the data from the current table to a stage table and truncates the current table.
The Problem:
When there is no data in the table, it creates a 0 bytes file that it puts onto the FTP server which messes things up on that side. All i want to do is put a check on the package to see if there is data before it executes.
Any help or even the slightest bit of information would be of great help.
Hi, I want to create a package to import some tables from database X from Server XYZ to database X of server ABC. (As my X database on server XYZ is gets updating everyday so i need to update it on X of server ABC using the package.) So i have created a package using the import export data transformationn services. It runs fine while creating. i.e importing data for the first time. But when i have saved that SSIS package on SQL or File system and scheduled it to run daily, but if fails everytime. I am not getting the error its giving. Because everytime when i go to view history of that package it just gives me messages like step1 started by user xyz and failed. Can you please help me to sort out this problem. If possible give me steps which will help me to create package to run above scenario. you can mail me the solution on abhijeets@nedbank.co.za
I've SQL statement that fail when I execute it on the server. I get the below message:
Msg 50000, Level 18, State 1, Procedure USP_GTL_Transform, Line 226 A transformation of an important table failed
When I execute the sql statement in the SSIS Control flow 'Execute SQL Task" the task succeed and paint in green. When I check in db log its still failing but only presented succeeded in the SSIS
Why the task didnt fail? how can i make it fail and paint in red?
I have an OLE DB Source and i want to transform the data type fields of the table before i export the table in an OLE DB Destination. Is there a way to transform numeric value to float, and numeric to nvchar?
I created a SSIS package. It imports data from a flat file and then transfer to different data types and load it into destination table. I use look up transformation. Actually before I created final table, I created another intermediate data table for references. Now I get a new source file once in a month. Then I'm supposed to connect new file and run the package. only difference in new source file is the data not data type. But when I connect the new flat file, package does not work. first one and fifth one are red when I run the package. Can anyone help me to fix this?
Thanks
