Windows XP Media And SQL Server 2005

Sep 11, 2006

I'm not finding a definitive answer to my question as to whether or not I can run the development edition of SQL Server 2005 on my brand new pc with this operating system. No one seems to know for sure and I can't afford to pay for tech. support. It should be supported but I don't know where to get a 'real' answer.

thx,

How Well Is SQL Server 2005 Handling Media?

I'm thinking of storing a lot of images, Word documetns, PDF, and emails as media in SQL Server 2005. Is it equiped to handle a lot of media? Or is it still preferred to store media separately on a file server?

SQL Server 2005 Standard Media

Jan 31, 2008

I am new to the forums, so hopefully this is the correct place for this question.

Is there somewhere to download the media for SQL Server 2005 Standard? I already have my licensing, and am wondering if you can avoid purchasing the media discs. I have done this with Windows Vista and Office 2007 in the past.

SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition - Installation Media

Mar 30, 2007

Hiya,

We were recently let down by our software supplier who have happily provided us with a single processor license for SQL Server 2005 before the weekend.. but haven't been able to provide any installation media.

I notice on the website that there is a trial edition of the Enterprise edition for download, that can be converted into a full installation by using a valid license key.

My question is.. would I be able to use that trial edition with my license key? Or are they fundamentally different?

If that isn't an option.. is there anywhere where I can obtain installation files for standard edition?

Thanks in advance,

SQL Server 2005 Trying To Restore Get Error Media Family Incorrectly Formed

Jul 30, 2007

I am trying to restore a 2005 backup to a 2005 database on another server. This has worked for me before. I have tried to take the backup 5 times now and each time I get the error media family incorrectly formed. Since I have successfully backed up and restored before between these same two databases I do not understand what is wrong now.

I found other questions with this error; however, they were taking a 2000 backup to a 2005 database. I am using a backup of a 2005 database to a 2005 restore.

How should I begin to debug this problem?

Thanks

Does SQL 2005 Purchase Come With Access To SQL 2000 Media?

Mar 13, 2007

My company is planning to purchase a SQL2005 standard Processor license (unlimited users - about $5000)

Does anyone know if we can obtain SQL2000 media along with the purchase. Because of the app we are running and its stage of development, we have to install and run SQL2000 for about 6 months before we can run Sql2005. We dont want to purchase SQL2000 for such a short term use.

I asked a DELL rep to help me with this over a month ago and he still has no answers for me.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Windows CE 5 Device With SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Sync With SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Oct 25, 2007

I have:

A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.

A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition.

The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened".

Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way.

I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best.

If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated.

Memory Configurations For SQL Server 2005 EE X64 With SQL Server 2000 EE X32 On Windows Server EE X64 Server

Apr 20, 2007

My server is a dual AMD x64 2.19 GHz with 8 GB RAM running under Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 installed. We have SQL 2000 32-bit Enterprise installed in the default instance. AWE is enabled using Dynamically configured SQL Server memory with 6215 MB minimum memory and 6656 maximum memory settings.

I have now installed, side-by-side, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in a separate named instance. Everything is running fine but I believe SQL Server2005 could run faster and need to ensure I am giving it plenty of resources. I realize AWE is not needed with SQL Server 2005 and I have seen suggestions to grant the SQL Server account the 'lock pages in memory' rights. This box only runs the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 server databases and I would like to ensure, if possible, that each is splitting the available memory equally, at least until we can retire SQL Server 2000 next year. Any suggestions?

How Do I Connect Client Machines To SQL Server 2005 Installed On A Windows 2003 Server

Apr 11, 2008

I am new to SQL server 2005

Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it.

I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP):

These are two things that I need to facilitate:

1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs.

2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database.

3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this.

Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.

Problems Connecting To SQL Server 2005 SP2 On Windows Server 2008 (both 64bit)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi All,
After I installed sql server 2005 64bit standard edition on Windows Server Enterprise 2008 64bit, I cannot connect to the sql instance using the sql management studio on the same machine!
I verified that:

service is running,

in surface area configuration: remote connections to local and remote are enabled, for TCP/IP and named pipes.

ran the command netstat -avn| findstr 49279 to make sure that the server is listening.

firewall is off, but this does not matter since I'm connecting locally to local instance

I'm using domain controller account to login to sql server / also tried the sa account.
what else can be wrong?

thanks.
