Retrieve Local Time From Remote SQL Server Computer

Feb 6, 2004

Hi all

I am about updating some fields with local date and time using blw API
Quote
Private Declare Sub GetLocalTime Lib "kernel32" (lpSystemTime As SYSTEMTIME)

Public Function LocalDateTime()

Dim MyTime As SYSTEMTIME

GetLocalTime MyTime

Debug.Print "The Local Date is:" & MyTime.wMonth & "-" & MyTime.wDay & "-" & MyTime.wYear
Debug.Print "The Local Time is:" & MyTime.wHour & ":" & MyTime.wMinute & ":" & MyTime.wSecond

End Function
Unquote
This works fine however due to it's not really easy for an administrator to keep checking every times wheter local date and time are correctly updated for each front end users computer i would that to reconsider my function and making it to read local date and time from remote SQL Server. my concern is to help administrator to save time as he should only need to ensure that Server is running with correct time...

thkx for any advise

Problem Connecting To Sql Server 2005 Express Database On Local Computer

Mar 18, 2008

I have a very basic console application whose sole purpose is to query a database on the same local computer. When i run the application, i get the error message below:
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'someDomainSomeUserName'.
Below is my connection string also
myconnection_string = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Reporting SystemApp_Datasafetydata.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True").
After some googling, some post pointed to deleting a user folder at :
C:Documents and SettingsmyusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server DataSQLEXPRESS
but still deleting that folder and restarting the machine doesn't help and i also have remote connections enabled. Help is really needed.
NOTE: The same application runs on a different computer with XP but fails on the Pc with windows server 2003.

Accessing Script File On Local Computer

Apr 13, 2004

I am trying to create a sproc creates several tables, views, and sprocs across several similar DBs (please...no lectures on structure...I didn't create this multi-DB setup) .

My sproc loops through the DBs and runs a script on each DB. I am running the Sproc from a client computer and cannot easily access the c drive on the SQL server.

The only way I have figured out how do do this is to run the following

xp_cmdshell 'isql d- %@mydb% i- c:script.sql'

inside a loop.

My problem is that xp_cmdshell refers to the server c drive instead of my local c drive, where my script file is.

Is there a way to refer to my local c drive? Also any thoughts on a better way to approach this (other than running the entire script inline in the sproc since I don't want to have to run quotes around each batch of the script).

Thanks

Will he be able to connect to it now or do I have to do more than just that?

Unable To Start T-SQL Debugging. Could Not Connect To Computer 'servername'.

Nov 9, 2007

I thought I would post how I got remote t-sql debugging working in my environment. Hope it might help someone.
I have two domains, DomainA and DomainB. DomainB has a one way external trust to DomainA. Dev Vista machine running VS 2005 is in DomainA logged in as user DomainAauser. SQL 2005 running on test Windows Server 2003 DC machine in DomainB under user DomainBuser. When trying to 'step into stored procedure' in VS, whether my data connection used windows authentication or sql server authentication, I would get the 'Unable to start T-SQL degbuggin...'. I could debug t-sql when I logged into the domain controller (console or rdp) and running VS on the server. I changed the SQL Server service to run under the DomainAauser account and I can now remote t-sql debug using both window authentication and sql server authentication. Hope this may help anyone that might run into this.

Administrative Rights For Local Machine To Deploy Dynamically Created Report From Web App To Report Server

Feb 5, 2007

The current way I have my asp.net 2.0 web app running reports is, based on an
interface the user selects the criteria for a report. The .RDL file is created
dynamically based on the user's selections.
I then need to SOAP the dynamically created report to the report server and
then the report runs fine.
BUT it requires Adminstrative rights to do this. Can this be accomplished
without giving the local machine admin rights. I am sorry if this question
has been answered before but i have not been up here in a while.

the datasource used in creating the report by another one for viewing the report.

(local) Database Wont Start?

Dec 29, 2004

I dont know how this happened but my (local) SQL Server wont start. I cant access any of the databases. I just get this error:

'A connection could not be established to (local).

Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
ConnectionOpen (Connect())

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties (by right-clicking on the (local) node) and try again.'

If I go to check the properties I get the same error. Im completely locked out. I looked at the folder and the database files are there, but I cant get to them through Enterprise Manager.

I have no idea how this problem could have happened. It just seemed to have stopped working. All my other databases can be reached (they are external). Could this be a virus or something? Can someone help me out on this one? I dont have a clue what the problem is, much less how to fix it.

Thanks.

Publish A Report From A Local Database To The Server

Nov 10, 2007

Hello,
I recently read the following book:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Server-2005-Reporting-Services/dp/0072262397/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5275187-2065567?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194662002&sr=8-1

It was excellent.

I was hoping to find an example of the following:

My company has a desktop application with a local database (sql server 2k express) I would like to be able to have local reports and if the user likes the report they are viewing, the user could "publish" that report to the server. Since the database is local, the report data source cannot point to that database. So, it would publish the report AND the data in it.

For this use case, what is the recommended strategy of moving the data with the report? Would i create a small xml file and then dynamically build a datasource that points to that xml? Any best practices advice?

If i could find an example would be fantastic.

Thanks for your help,
Dan

Move Report File From Reporting Server Back To Local Visual Studio Project

Apr 4, 2008

I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.

I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.

I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.

Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.

Let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

Query Execution Failed For Data Set &&<name&&> For More Information About This Error Navigate To The Report Server On The Local Serv

Jul 10, 2007

I have created and deployed my first report. It renders fine for me and the other database admin. When others attempt to view it, we get the error

Query execution failed for data set 'periods'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand), For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

Initially, We created a local group on the machine that hosts both the database and webserver and added the individuals to that group. Then, within SRS Report manager, we added that group to the Browswer role of the report.
The error message was slightly different, in that it couldn't even open the Datasource.

We then added an individual to the database as dbreader, and got the above message. It apprently is starting to render, and when it encounters the first query (dataset "periods", which populates a drop down list for a parameter), it chokes. BTW, the Periods dataset executes a stored procedure dbo.Period_List that has no parameters. It returns a list of reporting periods.

I could not figure out how to "enable remote errors" or find an error log on the server. The C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFiles Log files did not appear to record any errors.

Please advise!

Local SQL Server Instances Not Showing Up On Local Servers Tab Of Management Studio Logon Screen

Oct 2, 2007

We have a 64-bit VM server running SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server on this particular VM server has 6 local instances installed. On the Management Studio logon screen I can type the full name of the local instance and connect to it, however if I press the drop down in the Server name field, choose Browse and select the Local Servers tab there is nothing listed under Database Engines.

Any idea why the 6 local instances don't show up under Database Engines? This is preventing me from installing a vendor application because their installer looks for local SQL Server instances on this server, but if SQL Server won't even show the local instances then the installer doesn't see them either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Craig

Can someone give me some code showing how to work with local reports. I'm trying to pass some parameters to my query/ data source and then bind it to the report viewer control on my aspx page.

Also is it possible to bind a sqldatasource to a report viewer? (if yes, could you show me some code).

thanks.
