Dtsrun Works From Command Prompt, But Hangs From Query Analyzer
Jul 17, 2006
I have a dts that works from the command prompt, but hangs in Query Analyzer. Here's the code inside Query Analyzer:
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'dtsrun /S BFHSQL4 /N vhl_dts_14144b /E'
From the command prompt, it's just:
dtsrun /S BFHSQL4 /N vhl_dts_14144b /E
I need to execute a dts package from a stored procedure. I can call up the command prompt, enter the dts command, and it executes perfectly. Here is what I am attempting to do from the stored procecure:
SQL Server 2012 Replication. The command prompt instance of the replication is being run as the same user as the SSMS "version" using the runas option. With SSMS the error is that the client is missing a privilege. There is no error when it runs from the command prompt. All runs well.
We have reinstalled the replication feature.We have gone through several MSDN articles that indicate exactly what privileges (both within the DB and in Windows) that service account should have. None have worked Incidentally, when I create a new publication and indicate that the SQL Server Agent be used , the publication runs.
Hi. I am having a problem using DTSRun in a stored procedure or in query analyzer. My DTS package truncates a table and then imports data from an Excel spreadsheet into the table. The DTS package runs fine if I run it manually on Enterprise Manager or if I use DTSRun in a command prompt. However when I try to run the package in a stored procedure or in query analyzer as follows: ie Exec master..xp_cmdshell 'DTSRUN /SSQL SERVER /NPackageName /Uuserid /Ppassword'
The package does not return an error but it does not actually import any data from the Excel spreadsheet. It is able to truncate the table without any problem. I've tried all kinds of combination of using Windows user id that I know has access to the excel file instead of a sql login. I've run Filemon on the excel file and it seems like DTS is not accessing the file when I use the stored proc or query analyzer method.
If anyone could shed any light on this I would be most grateful. Thanks.
I'm currently updating one of our web sites and have encountered astrange problem. The page that is giving me the problem is written inASP and hits a SQL 2K DB. When I click submit I have 4 procs thatneed to be executed. I always get a sql server timeout error. Iopened up Profiler and traced the events. The page hangs on the lastproc called which is basically a select * where id = @id. If I runthe same proc that hangs in query analyzer, literally copy fromprofiler into query analyzer the proc runs no problem but when I'mhitting it from the web it hangs. The proc takes in 1 argument whichI see when I view the trace in profiler. The id getting passed to theproc is correct. I don't think this is a web problem because the COMobject that runs the last 2 procs works on other productionapplications with no problems. I was wondering if anyone has anysuggestions. I'm not a dba but would like to know what the problem isfor future reference. I pasted the proc below just for the hell ofit. FYI, I changed the name of the proc, table and columns forsecurity purposes.CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[spName]@TNum integerASSELECT M.*FROM tblName MWHERE (M.[idColumn] = @TNum)GOThanks in advance,Bob
declare mycur CURSOR SCROLL for select myRowID from myTable order by myRowID open mycur;
Fetch ABSOLUTE 30 from mycur into @id close mycur; deallocate mycur;
select @id this script turns me a value.
i create a stored procedure from above script and its syntax is ok; CREATE PROCEDURE SELECT_MyRow AS declare @cur cursor declare @RowID decimal set @cur = CURSOR SCROLL for select myRowID from myTable order by myRowID open @cur Fetch ABSOLUTE 30 from @cur into @RowID close @cur deallocate @cur select @RowID GO
my c# code using stored procedure is below;
Code Snippet try {
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand("SELECT_MyRow", myconnection); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; myconnection.Open(); OleDbDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(); MessageBox.Show(reader.GetName(0));//here fails while (reader.Read()) {
The code above fails because reader reads no values, error message is "No data exists for the row/column" but i know exists. Can anyone help me, what is the difference between stored procedure and script ?
I often run queries in Query analyzer. Today I accidentaly deleted some data from a table. Is their a way to undo the last SQL command executed?I have heard of the rollback command, but I don't know if that is applicable or not?
I have a script to bulk copy data from my table into textfile. This bcp script will be executed by xp_cmdshell. When I try to execute the scipt inside query windows it returned an error : Error = [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. But when I test the bcp script in command prompt it will execute successfully
Is there any misconfiguration ? (I'm using sqlexpress) thanks in advance.
Hi, I am trying to run dtsrun command as a sheduled job and the user who executes that job is "sa".I am trying to import data from a Non-Secured Network to a Secured Network only port 1433 is opened.
The problem is that dtsrun is a OS based command and that runs in the context of the service which started the sql service and which is a RPC request. I need to run a certain dts package at a sceduled intervals and i need a work around other than dtsrun..how can i do the same
I have a trigger on a table which when I do a direct update to throught QA seems to work fine. When a user developed application updates the record it locks their screen and record. I can't see where it could be causing it, but I am pasting it below. Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated

The same package is getting executed properly when I run it from my client through DTSRUN from the command prompt.
HiWe're using SqlServer 2000.I want to run a DTS using the DTSRUN command.The commmand is inside a ".bat" file which my application is runningfrom an SQL client.No matter how I run it from the client it fails giving me the message:[ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access deniedI've tried to run it from the client from the application, from thecommand prompt and it fails.I went into enterprise on the client and tried to run the DTS fromthere. The run failed already on the 1st step which is a call to astored procedure, also giving me the same message. This really stuck meas wierd because in enterprise I'm accessing the server successfully sowhy the above messgae. It identifies the server and I am accessing it.Because it failed on the 1st step which is a call to a stored procedureI tried running the sp from within query analyzer and it succeeded.Has anyone got any idea what the problem is and ghow to solve it.Thanks !David Greenberg
Can anyone tell me how to enable bcp utility. Because anytime I try to run BCP I get the following error messages: (BCP not enable). Also how can I get to SQL Server command prompt? I look forward to hearing from anyone.
I have a Microsoft SQL server that is setup, and inside it is a job. Inside the job is a bunch of lines of transact sql statements.
I would like to be able to start the job from the command prompt. Moreover, I do not want to have to create new files or modify anything that is existing. I just want to be able to have it set up so that a new user who installs the server and all of the job on their machine fresh, can just punch in the command to run the job.
I know I can copy the transact sql statements from the job, and run them through the command prompt, but that would be a poor way to do it, because if the statements in the job were ever modified, with this task being automated, the command prompt statements would be out of date.
So I just need a way to start the existing job from the command prompt. Is this possible? Maybe with OSQL?
I am have trouble configuring developer edition when trying to run a Bulk Copy through Command Prompt. I have configured remote connections within the surface area configuration and have created a firewall exception
I enter and run
bcp FileImportDB..Exam in "c:FileImportPracticeExamImportFile.txt" -T -c
then i get the following error message
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersDineen>bcp FileImportDB.Exam in "c:FileImportPracticeExamImportFile.t xt" -T -c SQLState = 08001, NativeError = 2 Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
I am running developer edition on vista and Service pack 2, iam connecting to my instance with no problem.

-- Create the backup device for the full MyNwind backup.
I have created linked servers and successfully run the following stored procedure.

We have a development server that will only run SQL Server from a DOS command prompt. Each time I reboot the server the services don't autostart, and I am unable to start them manually using Service Manager. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks
I try to backup DB (DatabaseA) in ServerA using sqlmaint utility in command prompt.
The sqlmaint.exe does reside in ..MssqlBinn Folder.
Below is the command i used (MS-DOS): ..Binn>sqlmaint -S ServerA -U "sa" -P "########" -D DatabaseA -BkUpDB C:Temp -HtmlRpt BackupRpt.html
When I execute the command, it only shows a list of the commands as if I execute -? command. There's NO any other messages that indicate the backup command is being executed.
When I check in the C:Temp folder, there's no BackupRpt.html file.
I wanted to know if there is a way to execute sql commands on the operating system's command line. If it is possible, then how do we do it ? For example to execute a SELECT * from Table statement what are we supposed to do ?
i have a problem installing SQLEXPRESS via command prompt... the installation is successful but the 'sa' account could not login to the server.. here's the command in my batch file.
I need to verify a csv file exists before I call a stored procedure to complete a bulk insert. The first step in the SP will be to verify the file exists (that particular "Job" step did not fail). I have only one step in the job that I have set the type as "Operating System (CmdExec)" and the Command is "Dir C:NAFCDMDataShipmentsCooperShipments.csv". When I execute the job manually to verify the proper operation I receive the error listed below. I know the path and file name are correct as I originally typed in the UNC, when it failed I copied it from the Address bar. I attempted to move the file to the root location without success. I attempted to use another file. I have attempted to rename the file. The DBAs will not allow me to use the SP_cmdshell stored procedure (that was my first thought).
I added 'Everyone' with Full Access to the root folder and propagated these permissions to all containing folders. This again did not allow the job to run. I changed the statment to "REN C:NAFCDMShipmentsShipment.csv Shipment1.csv". I continue to get the same error. Can someone Please point me in a direction to fix this problem?

The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sa. The last step to run was step 1 (Verify the File's Existance)."
