I was wondering if it is possible to order a recordset by specific values.
That is, I want my recordset to be ordered alphabetically, but I want to set the order of the alphabet.
For example, I don't want my recordset to be odered by A, B, C, D ...I want it to be ordered by G, V, T, A ... or something.
Can you do something like

I would like to format the output of a query. I have a few CaseCategoryID's I would like to sort; however, I do not want to sort them ascending or descending, I want to sort them by CaseCategoryID 3, then 8, then 4, then 11, and then the rest. Is this possible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a "main" SQL 2014 server who imports XML files using SSIS in a datacenter. In remote sites (which are warehouses), there is an instance of SQL 2014 Express. A merge replication is setup, as every operations done on each site must be "forwared" to the main database, as some XML files are generated as output for an ERP system.
Now, the merge replication replicate all the data to the server on each sites. But a specific site don't need the data of every other sites, only the data relevant to itself (which is the warehouse code). Is there a way to replicate only the data relevant to each individual sites to the subscribers? Or is there a better way than replication to accomplish this?

I am very early on in developing a website to track issues with projects which is tied to a SQL database. I have my Projects Table, my Users Table, and am creating a third table to track issues. I'm wondering what is the best way to assign specific users to specific data/projects. The user should only be able to view & update the projects assigned to him. He should not be able to see other projects. What is the best way to assign projects/data to the users to make sure they are only viewing their data?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a table with all my orders lines, I need to identify (DAX formula) for a specific customer which is the first order of a specific article (first date filtered for customer and article) and use this information to tag the order line for that article for the specific customer as "Newly Ordered article" if the order date = first order date or as "Reordered article" if the date on the specific order line is subsequent to the first order date.
I imagine I need to combine a Lookup date filtered for customer and article and use it with a IF formula.
Similar to this I would also like to define that if the first order for a product for the specific custumer is older then a certain date, then this would be defined as and historical customer for the specific article, if the first order on the article is more recent the a specific date, then this will be defined as "new customer for that article".
I have a request for being able to show ordertotals for those orders that contains a specific productgroup.

So if i slice OrderTotal by ProductGroup the result will be

I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.
For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.
I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.
I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row.However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.
I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.
Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?
Hello,I'm trying to create a simple back up in the SQL Maintenance Plan that willmake a single back up copy of all database every night at 10 pm. I'd likethe previous nights file to be overwritten, so there will be only a singleback up file for each database (tape back up runs every night, so each daysback up will be saved on tape).Every night the maintenance plan makes a back up of all the databases to anew file with a datetime stamp, meaning the previous nights file stillexists. Even when I check "Remove files older than 22 hours" the previousnights file still exists. Is there any way to create a back up file withoutthe date time stamp so it overwrites the previous nights file?Thanks!Rick

I want to ship 500,000 aged transactions each night to an archive table and delete them from their source table in one or more logical units of work (LUW). Each row is approx 60 bytes and there is only one non clustered index on the source table presently.
I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of 3 alternatives. One of them would basically insert the non-aged rows into tempdb, ship the aged records, truncate the table and then insert the tempdb records back into their source all in the same LUW.
For this alternative, I'd at least like to turn off logging when the records get inserted into tempdb as I dont see any value in logging that part of the activity. Is this possible?

Hi I have used the create user wizard to create a registration page my table stores the user details and user id. I am also using the login wizard to create a log in page . I now want to display the details of the currently logged in user usind details view and allow them to view and edit their details. where and how do i create the session varible anh how do I wtire the sql select statement say select first name from table1 where (the userid I stored earlier in a table when the user registered ) = (this should be the currently logged in user'id). I'd like to make a copy of several tables before changes are made to them so that I can 'roll back' if necessary.
What I 'thought' i could to was this:
select * into mytable_temp from mytable
and then to roll back..
truncate table mytable
Select * into mytable from mytable_temp
When I try and select back into my original table, it says I can't because the object already exists.. What is a better way to accomplish this????

We have merge replication set up between 2 instances of SQL 2005 through web synchronization. I was wondering is it possible if the subscriber adds data at their end can we selectively edit what data gets uploaded back to the publisher? Will this work if I add a filter to the appropriate article at the publisher or will that only limit what goes down to the subscriber rather than vice-versa?
Also, could we set up web sychronization if the publisher had no direct access to the IIS server (ie. was not on the same network, available only through port 80, 443)?

I'm creating a website that collects dates in a calendar control (from Peter Blum). When the page containing the control loads it populates the calendar with dates from the database (that have previously been selected by the user). The user then can delete existing dates and/or add new dates.
I create a dataset when the page loads and use it to populate the calendar. When the user finishes adding and deleting dates in the calendar control I delete the original dates from the dataset and then write the new dates to the dataset. I then give execute the data adapter update command to load the contents of the dataset back into the database. This command involves using parameterized queries. For example the Insert command is:
