I need to run a batch file in xp_cmdshell. The problem is that the batch will start a program that does not get back to c: prompt, and until it does xp_cmdshell does not return control. Is there anyway I can start that problem and get the control back to do other things? I tried using START /SEPARATE command in DOS, but it does not help.
I need the file created by my BCP QUERYOUT command I'm executing from XP_CmdShell in Transact-SQL to have a specific OWNER. I've tried using the sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account to setup the correct owner. The owner is always SERVERNAMEAdministrators.
I have been saving a trace file while entering orders into a new vendor application. I can replay the files just fine and everything works. My question is that I am trapping ten minutes worth of orders that are entered. However when profiler replays the trace it runs through in about a minute. I was trying to get a realistic a load approach as I can, and was wondering if there is a way to conrol how fat profiler runs the file trace. I put in 20 orders during this 10 minutes, in the real world no one could put the 20 orders into the system in a minute. Any ideas (and no,purchasing a real load testing program is not an option)
I am somewhat new to SSIS and have a question on branching/control flow. We have 3 manufacturing facilities on AS400. Requirement were to create independent SSIS packages in case certain facilities were down, to not interrupt or fail other facilities. to be honest, I didn't want to maintain 3 * (each plant package) packages and decided to create one that takes in a command line parameter and will create seperate batch files (requirements for our archaic scheduling system) that pass in the plant to be processed.
Everything works fine and the packages analyze the passed parameter with no problem and evaluate it when calling stored procedures int a SQL Task. I am required (I think - let me know if I'm wrong here) to have 3 seperate Data Flow tasks depending on which plant is being processed because they are different connections (same server, different DBs - AS400). Which Data Flow Taks run is based on a precedence constraint that analyzes the passed in plant number.
After the Data Flow Tasks are complete, I'd like to merge back into one path again (even though1 out of N will only run at a time) because they are all simply stored proc calls with different parameters. It seemed silly to me to have the same tasks repeated 3 different times. I looked into started up tasks after events, but I don't know a lot about it and it seems as though I would still be maintaining 3 different paths anyway.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
P.S. (Even if the sollution is to have 1 Data Flow Task I'm still interested in knowing how to converge paths back together)
Hello,I'm trying to create a simple back up in the SQL Maintenance Plan that willmake a single back up copy of all database every night at 10 pm. I'd likethe previous nights file to be overwritten, so there will be only a singleback up file for each database (tape back up runs every night, so each daysback up will be saved on tape).Every night the maintenance plan makes a back up of all the databases to anew file with a datetime stamp, meaning the previous nights file stillexists. Even when I check "Remove files older than 22 hours" the previousnights file still exists. Is there any way to create a back up file withoutthe date time stamp so it overwrites the previous nights file? Thanks!Rick
New to Database Mirroring and I have a question about the Principal database server. I have a Database Mirroring setup configured for High-safety with automatic fail over mode using a witness.
When a fail over occurs because of a lost of communication between the principal and mirror, the mirror server takes on the roll of Principal. When communication is returned to the Principal server, at some point does the database that was the previous Principal database automatically go back to being the Principal server?
I need to run two reports each of A5 Size to run back to page and print on single A4 paper means in 1st half Sale bill will be printed and in second half Gate Pass Will Be Printed both report will be on same page and size and shape should be maintained. How to do it.
Hi All, I am placing a Matrix inside the table control for grouping requirements, but when we export the report to the Excel, the contents inside the table cell are ignored. Is there any way to get the full report exported, as per the Requirement. Please help me with this issue.
Hello,I am hoping you can help me with the following problem; I need to process the following steps every couple of hours in order to keep our Sql 2000 database a small as possible (the transaction log is 5x bigger than the db).1.back-up the entire database2.truncate the log3.shrink the log4.back-up once again. As you may have determined, I am relatively new to managing a sql server database and while I have found multiple articles online about the topics I need to accomplish, I cannot find any actual examples that explain where I input the coded used to accomplish the above-mentioned steps. I do understand the theory behind the steps I just do not know how to accomplish them!If you know of a well-documented tutorial, please point me in the right direction.Regards.
UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)
UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.
My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."
I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.
Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?
Does anybody know of a way to rollback SQL Server 2005 databases back to SQL Server 2000? Is there a way of doing it without resorting to Copy Database Wizard? I love to find a way of attaching a SS 2005 database to a SS 2000 instance without any issues.
I recently upgraded to SS 2005 and I am very unhappy with the SS 2005 and I want to rollback to SS 2000, which was a lot more stable. I am having several major issues that are affecting my whole company's day-to-day operations and the managers are not happy. Some of the issues include night time batch running very sluggish for no apparent reason. This is a biggest problem because it only occurs once or so a week and causes a disturbance with the daily activities when the night time processing isn€™t completed on time. The rest of the time, the batch processing runs great, even a little better then on SS 2000. I don't believe it is a matter of my application needing to be retuned because if that was the case, then why isn't it running sluggish every night? Also, it's never the same day that the sluggish behavior occurs. If it was occurring on the same night, then I would have something to investigate within our application, but it doesn't. Another issue that I am having involves a night time job that restores a copy of the production database to the Data Warehouse server to be used for updating the data warehouse. Again, most of the time it runs great (~2 1/2 hours), but once or twice a week, it goes stupid and takes 6 1/2 hours for no apparent reason. Again, it is not happening the same day either, which could give me something to invesigate. On SS 2000, this same job ran flawlessly. Never I did I run into situation that the database restoration took that long to run. Even another issue involves a SQL Server Agent Job that was put into suspended state. What's a suspended state and how can I get it out of suspended state? I can find no information about suspended state in BOL. I did a Google and nothing came up. If this suspended state was put in for security reasons, great, but then tell me how I can remove the suspended state. I am also not happy with the fact that I can't get accurate information about the queries that are actively running at that particular moment. In SS 2000, when I noticed high CPU usage on the server, I would run the sp_who2 active stored proc and it would show me all the active thread and how much CPU it was consuming. I would then find the running threads with the highest CPU numbers and investigate the query and see if we could improve it. Now in SS 2005, I get in the same situation and run the sp_who2 stored proc, and there is no smoking gun. All of the active threads are showing very little CPU usage, which I am very suspect of. What the heck happen to sp_who2? I looked at some of the other ways of looking at running processes (i.e... sys.sysprocesses) and they don't appear to be giving the information that I need.
I am very unhappy and I just want to roll back to SS 2000 and wait a couple of years before I upgrade to SS 2005.

hi everybody My requirement is, I have to transfer database backup files from one server to another server to take tape backup. Generally in my backup folder there will be 4days backups. I want to schedule a job so that after database backed up, today’s backup file only copied to the other server. I wrote following code, upto xp_cmdshell every thing is working fine. But xp_cmdshell statement is giving error. I have to use variable value with sp_cmdshell. Please give me the solution for this.
declare @year1 as varchar(4),@month1 as varchar(2),@day1 varchar(2),@filename varchar(40) set @year1=ltrim(str(year(getdate()))) if month(getdate())<10 set @month1='0'+ltrim(str(month(getdate()))) else set @month1=ltrim(str(month(getdate()))) if day(getdate())-1 <10 set @day1='0'+ltrim(str(day(getdate())-1)) else set @day1=ltrim(str(day(getdate())-1))
set @filename='EMPTest_db_'+ @year1+@month1+@day1+'*.bak'
I am trying to run a Visual Basic Script using the xp_cmdshell stored procedure. When I try to run the file, the MS Script Debugger application is started.
I run the script like this: "xp_cmdshell 'D:ScriptFilesSpaceMail.vbs'"
I can run it from the DOS prompt successfully, but not from Query Analyzer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the MS Script Debugger from running?
I am trying to run bcp with xp_cmdshell inside a trigger. Whenver I update table the server is hanging. It creates the file in specified location but of ZERO size and I cannot delete it unless I stop SQL server service.

Hi Guys, i am trying to run an .exe file from queryanalyzer for my testing.I am using the following command exec master..xp_Cmdshell 'C:extEXEproject1.exe -SCHEETAH -Uvijay -Pbell' CHEETAH is my server name User :vijay pwd:bell the problem is its running forever in QueryAnalyzer, when i tried to run the same thing from dosprompt its executing fine. SQL 7.0 I have given a non sa user permissions to run xp_cmdshell via his NT logon. When he runs it and does a "dir" of the server it works. When he trys to do a "dir" of his own machine it comes up with "Logon failure unknown user name or bad password". SQL Agent is running under a domain admin account. I have placed SQLAgentCmdExec in the servers local administrators group. I have de-selected the option from SQLAgent propertiesJob System which restricts non sa users executing CmdExec stuff. I did attempt to Reset Proxy Account and Reset Proxy Password. When I clicked on these it just gave me message that the account and password had successfully been reset without asking me for username, password or domain.
Hello, friends, This is probably not a question for DBA forum, but may be someone knows the answer. In the stored procedure I'm using xp_cmdshell command to copy file from one dir to another. How I can receive any indication what the process succeded? xp_cmdshell return 1 or 0 if the stored procedure was invoked, I would like to receive an indication that the file was copied.
I tried to use the external procddure - xp_cmdshell - to copy a file from a local drive to a network drive, but failed. Yet the attempt succeeded if I tried to copy a file from one place to another in local drive.
It seems that SQL Server 6.5/7.0 did not recognize any network drive. I greatly appreciate your help/assistance and/or any hint(s). Thanks a lot

I've recently installed SQL Server 2005 and now trying to enable xp_cmdshell through SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration. However, I am getting the following error:
User does not have permission to perform this action. You do not have permission to run the RECONFIGURE statement.
