normaly it takes 20 min 1 hr to finish longest job.
What does it mean?

The job executes a dts pkg (which I just rum manually, and all worked fine)
What does it mean?, I can not stop this job and refresh is not working ether.
What I can do?

It never returns a results set but doesn't error out either. I have left it for 40 minutes and still no joy.The sproc is reasonably complicated; 6 CTEs to find the most recent version of records and some 2 joins to parent tables (parent and grandparent), 3 joins to child tables (child, grandchild and great grandchild) and 3 joins to lookup views each of which self references a table to filter for last version of a record.
Replication Problem After Running For 24 Hours With Action Msg Could Not Query Row Metadata At The 'Subscriber'

We are currently using a Merged replication and Push subscriber to replicate the databse from DB1 to DB2 every hours. The replication process successed for first 20 hours but we found that the replication process cannot be completed after 20 hours with the following error codes:
Action Code Last Action Msg
4 The process could not query row metadata at the 'Subscriber'
363 The process could not deliver insert(s) at the 'Subscriber'.

Job Running Status
Sep 25, 2006In SQL 2000, go to Management, than Jobs, you will see a list of all jobs and their running status. I would like to programmatically display the same on my web page. I can call sysjobs table to get the jobs and use sysjobschedules to determine whether it's been scheduled or not. Then use sysjobhistory to obtain their running history. But how and where do I get the Next Run Date information? Is this calculated or stored somewhere?Can anyone give me some help on how to work with sysjobs, sysjobschedules, and sysjobhistory tables? All I am trying to do is to build a web-based app that does the same thing as the Enterprise Manager is doing - create and schedule a job, and monitor the job status.Thanks a lot!Penn

I have a very long running stored proc (import and transformation of 2-3 M. records). The duration of about 1h is not the problem.
My problem is that i want to send some notifications to the UI for showing a progress counter in the UI.
Is there any possibility to send send out a msg after certain steps (e.g. after positioning the cursor to next row) via an extended stored procedure which I could catch in my UI?
I would be very appreciative if somebody would send me a hint.

SQL Server Agent Running Status Not Showing?

I ahve attached the bmp doc that will show my screen snapshot.
My SQL server Agent service indicator is not showing green as like other server. I have started the serice and running fine. I don't have any problem running the job.
My curious is why that indicator is not showing up.

Long Running Stored Procedure Status
Mar 24, 2008I have a stored procedure in SQL 2005 that purges data, and may take a few minutes to run. I'd like to report back to the client with status messages as the sp executes, using PRINT statements or something similar. I imagine something similar to BACKUP DATABASE, where it reports on percentage complete as the backup is executing.
I can't seem to find any information on how to do this. All posts on this subject state that it's not possible; that PRINT data is returned after the procedure executes. However it would seem possible since BACKUP DATABASE, for example, does this.
Is there any way to send status type messages to the client as the sp is executing??

Unable To Set SQL Express Service Status To Running State
Nov 1, 2007Hi! Im just starting to learn how to use an SQL express database. I used it over at my campus and it worked fine and now when I try running it on my machine it gave me this error :
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connection.(Provider : SQL Network Interfaces, error : 26 - Error locating server/ instance specified.)"
I know that by default SQL express doesnt not support remote connection but when i try to get the service status running, i got another error which is :
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, you need administrator privileges to be able to start/stop this service. (SQLSAC)"
I am already logged on to the computer as an administrator but i still cant get the service to run! Pls help!

Silent - Unattended Setup - Getting Informed About Running Installation Progress Status.
Apr 10, 2007I 'm trying to install Sql Server 2005 Express Edition using c# 2.0 by starting a process and launching setup. I also want to informed about installation progress. For instance i want to inform end user if any installation error return or if setup has successfully completed etc. I think i need a callback... I have no problem about silent - unattended install but how can i informed about running installation progress ? and send these info to end user 's form ?

I have a URL Action (defined on cells based on condition specified in MDX) defined in my SSAS 2005 Cube that opens a page in our ASP .Net application.
I use custom MDX statements within SSRS to generate report. Is it possible to expose the above action in a report generated using reporting services ? (in which case I can use the "Jump to URL" feature in SSRS to redirect the user to the appropriate web page) If so, please can you specify how?

Jun 14, 2007I have a package that has 4 Script Tasks that are placed sequentially.
I have Task1--> Task2-->Task3-->Task4
The arrows between them are OnCompletion Arrows as opposed to the Standard OnSuccess arrows.Even if Task2 failed, it would still execute 3 and 4
the catch is that i want it such that when i run the first time and task 2 fails, then all the tasks except task2 should run which is fine, but when i rerun it. I want it such that it realises that task 2 had failed earlier, so it runs just task2.... if both 2 and 4 had failed then it should just run 2 and 4
i tired to implement it with check points, but the problemn is that if it fails at task2 it stops at task2 and does not continue to execute tasks 3 &4... when u rerun it starts at 2 but like i said i would like 3 & 4 to have completed the previous run...
Any suggestions would be helpful

I have a situation where there are two tables Negotiation and Rubrics. A single negotiation can have N number of Rubrics. Hence it has Primary Key - Foreign Key relationship. Now I am using two different updatable recordset, to make changes from the form.
The problem is with the close button we have in Negotiation Form. For example, a user says create negotiation and fills in d details in the Neg form, and adds several rubric to it (which opens a seperate rubric form). When each rubric is created and comes back to negotiation form, the record is actually updated in the database from the recordset. (Since Rubric is a different recordset).
Now, When i say close from the Negotiation Form. The changes should not be committed or in other words, no changes should be committed, generally its should be rolled back to the original state. Since all the rubric info is already in the database, this is a problem.(hard to track wat all rubrics the negotiation had initially)
I thought of maintaining a transaction in the db, but that wld need a single connection, which is not recommended.
Please suggest us how this can be implemented.

I have a report which contains quite a few parameters for user input. The user wants the parameters arranged in a 'down & over' orientation. This has been done via the parameter order.
The next question is - how do I get the tab action between the parameters changed from the 'over & down' default to the new 'down & over' orientation?
Is this functionality currently supported?

Take No Action Default?
May 27, 2008I had a situation over the long weekend where the SQL Server was restarted manually and even though all the SQL Server Services were set to start "Automatically" the SQL Server Agent did not come up. Fortunately most of my batch loads do not use the job scheduler but run by way of DOS batch scripts.
When I went to restart the Service I noticed that in the properties for the Services for all the SQL Server services that in the recovery tab that the First Failure, Second Failure and Subsequent failures were all defaulted to "take no action".
My question is what should they be set to "Restart the Service"? I searched MSDN and the web and didn't find anything on this subject. Is there any harm is setting them all to "Restart the Service"? (we have no OLTP databases only OLAPs in this server).
This leads me to wonder why wouldn't they be defaulted to "Restart the Service".

DTS SQL JOB Hangs Even After The Successful Completion Of The DTS
Apr 2, 2007Hi All,I have a DTS package that runs calling a few stored procedures and anactiveX module. The package does some data cleanup and load. It takesan hour to complete. I have emails sent at the beginning and end ofthe package execution along with error notifications if any of thestep fails.The issue is that, the DTS runs successfully. I ran the package fromthe server and it completes. If I schedule it, it has been running forover a few months without any issues. One fine day hell broke looseand it started to give an attitude!!When the job is invoked automatically on the scheduled time, it runsthe package. Does what its supposed to do including sending out thefinal email. but is not finishing the job. The job says its stillexecuting but the final step has completed. I have tried logging thepackage, and it says completed the last step.. But the JOB Log hasn'twritten anything to the log file.. (Job Log is where I am logging thestep where I am calling the DTS).Has anyone have any idea what this issue is? I am at a dead end andhave no clue why this is happening. I am thinking of changing thewhole process but before that I want to try posting this.Any ideas, suggestions will be much appreciated. Feb 14, 2007I have three sequence containers setup to run in parallel. I have a final step that parses the log file and displays results, and I want to this to occur when all three containers have completed, success or failure. I therefore have a constraint from each container that feeds into my final step, and all three constraint types are set to "completion".
When I run the package and one of the tasks within a container fails (and fails its parent, but not the package) the final step is not executed.
If I take off all the constraints except one, the final step is executed as expected.
I am using checkpointing if that has any impact. Disabling it makes no difference.
Any thoughts/alternatives I might try?

I'd like to know if there is something, such as a built-in function, that could help me.
The best idea I have is to create some sort of node tree and work with that but there has to be a better way.
I need to do it in C# or in MS SQL. Any kind of help is much appreciated!
Force Package Completion?
Dec 11, 2006Is there a way (during the Control Flow) to force a package to complete successfully when a specific condition is met?
Here is what I'm trying to do:
A package will be scheduled to execute once a day
The first thing it does is downloads Excel files from an FTP site.
If there are no files to download, I don't want the package to fail, I simply want the package to stop (preventing the subsequent Data Flow tasks from executing), returning a successful completion.
The reason, I need a successful completion is because I plan to have MOM monitor the Windows event logs, notifying us of any errors that this package logs.
Shared Schedule Completion

Sending E-mail On SP Action

I've run into a situation which I'm not sure which option to use. I have a web-based app that needs to send an email to a user once an auction has ended (the user being the winning bidder). The backend of the app is SQL 2005. I'm trying to figure out how to get this to work but I'm not sure if I should be using Database Mail or if I should be using a windows service on the web server that pings the database to check if the auction has ended and if the user has been notified. Can anyone shed some light as to which way I should be doing this? Additionally, I'm planning on formatting the style of the mail message so it'll need to be in HTML format and not plain text.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If I have a trigger for INSERT and DELETE, how do I know what action was executed ??
I prefer not to split the trigger to one for each action, because the the procedure for both is almost the same.
Another question, How can I know what records were updated? I need to concatenate the ID/ID's to the SQL in the procedure.
