Is there any way to restore a database of higher version to lower version.
E.g. I have created a database in sql server 2012, created some tables & procedures in that.I took Full backup of that database. Can I restore it to sql 2008r2 or any lower version.
I know direct restore is not possible, I have to use either import or export option or generating script,but i want to know is there any easy step to do so.

Whilst working with SSRS within SSIS I came accross an issue when trying to create a Web Service Task using the SSRS Web Service. After pointing the task to the WSDL file when I tried to access the Methods of the web service I would get the '....WSDL is not supported.' error. I also noticed that selecting the Download WSDL button would throw up and error as well.
After a bit bit of playing around I found the following solution to the problem.
Make a copy of the ReportingServices.wsdl file and make sure it is not marked as Read-Only.
Point the Web Service Task editor to this new copy of the WSDL file
Set the OverwriteWSDLFile option in the Web Service Task editor to True.
You should then be able to access the details of the WSDL file and the methods of the web service. I am not sure if this issue is by design but hope that this information will help others who came across the same issue?
I have a database called 'objects' with one of its fields called 'Image' (data type is set to image) and a file in my desk top labelled as 'Pictures' (this is where all my pictures are keep). Now, I checked and verified that my backup version of SQL Server is the same as the version installed on the computer I'm restoring too.
I have SQL Server on a production machine that I backed up and want to test a full restore on a dev machine to make sure it will work when I need it to.
Now that I've run the restore command on my tape backup and go to restart the SQL server service I receive:
Configuration block version 0 is not a valid version number. SQL Server is exiting. Restore the master database or reinstall.
I'm afraid I don't understand why this is happening. If the builds are the same, then shouldn't restoring the MASTER database have worked normally and I'd be able to restart the service now?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have about 300 tables scattered across 3 databases that I am trying to consolidate into a single database. There are other tables within these 3 databases that I don't wish to consolidate (so I don't want to copy the full database).
What are my options to move these tables to the consolidated database?
Are there options beyond, the pain and extensive run-time of copying from the DTS wizard into the new database (plus the indices won't copy will they?) or writing code that creates tables in the new database, populates them with data from the old tables and then deletes the old tables?
My understanding is sp_rename won't work with two separate databases --i.e., your destination db must be the same as the db of the object you are renaming. (if my understanding is wrong, that would seem to be the easiest way to accomplish this)

I have a Audit tables database. I want to archive the Audit Tables data to another new database in the same server and remove the data in the Actual database but continues with the table seed where it's the primary ID.
Example:
I have a AuditProducts Table with AuditID as BIGINT and auto increment value.
contains10,000 records in AuditTable Database.
I want to archive the tables to a new database: Audit200707
After archived, the AuditProducts Table in AuditTable database will remove all the records and continues with 10001 in the next record.
How can I done the whole process using T-SQL so that it can schedule and run for every month? BTW I am using SQL Server 2005 SP2.

How can I tell which version of SQL Server that a .mdf file was created with? I have a file from a customer that I cannot open with SQL Server 2005 and suspect it was created with an earlier version of SQL Server. How can I convert it to SQL Server 2005?

I am moving a database from one server to another. I am going to replace the old server to the new one. I heard that you can move the datfiles and put them in the same directory, and sql server will pickup the datafiles based on the system tables. Hi all! I know I might sound stupid, but I have this problem. I have developed my database on my laptop which does not use Active directory. Lets say I access the database with: SPIDERMANDB1 on SQL server, where the name of my laptop is SPIDERMAN, and the database is DB1. Now, I create an SQL script from sql server and make the necessary changes, like changing the computer name to say, SUPERMAN where my deployment server's name is SUPERMAN. But when I run the SQL script on the SUPERMAN server, it gives me an error like: "User or role SUPERMANDB1 does not exist in this database". I have deployed databases in this way on servers without Acive directory, so I'm sure its not a mistake on my side. So how am I supposed to go around this active directory thingi! Please help me out! I'm counting on u guys!

I'm trying to find a way to insert data from a TableA on ServerA into TableB on ServerB using SSIS in Visual Studio.
The specification I was given is basically
Insert INTO TableB AS (Select * from TableA WHERE NOT EXISTS on TableB).
I can't use a linked server unfortunately.
I wonder if it possible to move data from tables on a linked server to a "normal database"? What am I doing wrong?
I am currently designing an adp front end that links to a Sql Server database.
In terms on front end upgrade prespective i am thinking about a logon routine procedure ( which should be a vba code code that runs at startup) to check wheter the adp front end which is being used is the latest release hence compatible with the database current version.
Create and manage version number at back end level is quiet easy however to set a version number or whatever else information in the adp is somewhat a big hassle as database properties are not available from visual basic when using adp.
Was also thinking about using my xml file which holds my configuration information such as Data source - catalog but that's mean deployment of new front end must be carried out with local xml file change.
Also any manual update of information about version in xml file could allow old front end to run with database.
Please any tips and advises on how to handle this issue highly appreciated.

Is there any way to get the version of a database without attaching it to the server. Or can I attach a database without converting from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.
The reason is that I have to ask the user before a convert the database from SQL Server 2000 to 2005.

Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?

Hello,I have been searching and reading a lots of information on the microsoft website about the different version of SQL server, but still can not make my decision.In term of performance, is there a real big difference between the workgroup and the standard version? The workgroup is limited to 3 GB of RAM while the standard is unlimited, would that really change the performance if my server has 16Gb or RAM?The price difference is pretty substantial so if could only have to buy the workgroup , it would be better.One more question, regarding the type of licence, my server has 2 processors, could I avoid buying 2 licences and get the Server plus CAL instead. I am using this server to host 4 web-application running on SQL server. Each database is about 15 MB.Thanks in adavance for your advises.Arno

The reason is because the Enterprise Evaluation version expires after 180 days. So if I create reports and cubes in Enterprise Evaluation I can import them into Developer Edition right? Should I remove the Enterprise Evaluation version after 180 days or leave it then install Developer Edition?

I am using SQL Server 2012 SE.I am trying to delete rows from a couple of tables (GetPersonValue has 250 million rows and I am trying to delete 50Million rows and GetPerson has 35 Million rows and I am trying to delete 20 million rows). These tables are in TX replication.The plan is to delete data older than 400 days old.
I tried to move data to new tables from the last 400 days and it took me like 11 hours. If I delete data in chunks of 500000 then its taking a long time to rebuild indexes(delete plus rebuild indexes 13 hours). Since I am using standard edition partition wont work.

I am experiencing a problem that, after i have made a backup database file in SQL Server version (9.00.1090), when i restore the database in a newer SQL Server 2005 version(9.00.1399), an error occurs.
The error is:
Restore failed for Server 'demo'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Additional information:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 9.00.1090. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 9.00.1399. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Anyone can tell me how i could fix this?

I've just installed a 365-day trail of microsoft SQL Server 5.0 Development edition and want to connect to a database in the database engine. I've checked that the services are running under My Computer->Manage->Services and Applications->SQL Server Configuration Manager and the SQL Server, SQL Server Agent msftesql and SQL Browser services are all running.
When I try to connect to my database, I get the following error:
InternalsVisibleTo declarations cannot have a version, culture, public key token, or processor architecture specified. (ObjectExplorer)
The start of this message is prefixed with:

What on earth does all that mean? And how to I fix it so I can connect?
