Sp_OACreate In SQL Server 2005, Fails With 'Not Enough Storage Is Available To Complete This Operation'

Jan 20, 2007

Hi all,

I have created a small COM in C# so that I can programatically create and execute stored procedures with SMO. At this point the COM has nothing in it but just a test prototype.
But when I tried to create the object as follows, I get the error indicated below.
It is not a memory issue because I have adequate storage and RAM.

Please Help!

DECLARE @object int
DECLARE @hr int
DECLARE @property varchar(255)
DECLARE @return varchar(255)
DECLARE @src varchar(255), @desc varchar(255)

-- Create an object.
EXEC @hr = sp_OACreate 'SQLInterop.CsharpHelper', @object OUT
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
EXEC sp_OAGetErrorInfo @object, @src OUT, @desc OUT
SELECT hr=convert(varbinary(4),@hr), Source=@src, Description=@desc
RETURN
END

This is the error I am getting:

Not Enough Storage Is Available To Complete This Operation

Aug 31, 2004

Hi,

I am having trouble trying to import a big file (aprox 250Mb is size) into an SQL Server database and I keep getting the message:

"Not enough storage is available to complete this operation".

The application tries to import the file by executing a stored procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE sp_updateMaterialBlob
@MaterialId Int,
@BLOB image
AS
BEGIN
Update Material SET blob = @blob where id = @materialId
END

The application uses an ADO connection. I've tried increasing the memory of the client machine but that didn't work. Whenever I do run the import, nearly all the memory on the machine is used up but every time after several hours I get the same error message. What is the cause of the problem and how do I resolve it? Ideally I want to use my application to do the import rather than anything bespoke.

SqlCe 3.0: Not Enough Storage Is Available To Complete This Operation.

Mar 8, 2007

I'm getting the "out of memory" exception when trying to do various things on a sql mobile [sql mobile 2005] database on a windows mobile 5 device. Our app uses compact framework 2.0 and is written in c#.

Our application uses strongly typed data sets, and save/loads them from a sql mobile database. The error occurs in different places, but always somewhere we interact with the database. It might fail on "DELETE FROM Location" in one run, and on a DataAdapter.Update on another, and a DataAdapter.Fill in another.

The memory thing I can add to the today screen suggests that when I encounter this error there is only 1-2Mb of program memory free [and about 13Mb of storage]. Unfortunately windows mobile 5 doesn't seem to have a way to adjust the allocation between storage/program memory anymore.

The failure has been occuring while trying to import data [which we are loading from a web service, as weakly typed datasets and copying into our specialized ones].

I have implemented:

Using statements, and/or dispose statements on:

Data Adapters

explicitly calling the dispose method on commands used in data adapters: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824462
Sql Connections
Sql commands [where not used in adapters]
Using/dispose around the larger data sets in the loading process
Gc.Collect() before database interaction [this seemed kind of like a last resort]
Reduction of memory usage [by loading fewer records from the web service at a time]

There does not seem to be a storage memory limitation, a fully loaded database file is about 3Mb. Our test handheld has only 64Mb of memory, and I've seen at most maybe 25Mb free [storage and program combined].

We are opening [and closing] a connection each time we touch the database. How much of a difference will going to a single connection opened when the app starts make?

Any ideas? Perhaps there's something I've missed?

thanks,
-Stair Counter

Is Busy: ...waiting To Complete An Internal Operation

Jul 30, 2007

Frequently, when I'm connecting to my server through SSMS i get "Is Busy: Microsoft SQL Server is waiting to complete an internal operation...."

And it tells me that if I get that message a lot, I should let Microsoft know.

So -- Microsoft, I'm letting you know.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I've searched MSDN and the knowledge base...I can only find one reference, and that is to a database diagram issue.

It takes a while to connect when this happens. So far, I haven't found a common denominator. It happens if I'm logged into my server and I try to connect to another instance, and it happens when I'm using my desktop...

A Previous Restore Operation Was Interrupted And Did Not Complete Processing On File

Sep 6, 2007

Hi

I am new to Forum. So not sure if i am posting my problem uner the right topic.

We have a sql server 2005 enterprise edition 4 way cluster on windows 2003 advance server.

I am logshipping these database to a different server at a different location.
My logshipping went fine until one the cluster server failed and the server instance failed over to another node.
The backup that happened around that time got copied over to the secondary by the copy job.
The log file that got copied to the secondary server tried restoring and i think it failed int he middle of restoring it.
(You would think that the sql would knoe if the backup is in complete and will move on to the next file. Not sure what happened there.)
There is no indication of the *.TUF file in the directory where i have the log files.

I tried restoring it manually and i got the following error

Msg 4319, Level 16, State 3, Line 1

A previous restore operation was interrupted and did not complete processing on file 'sessionlog1'. Either restore the backup set that was interrupted or restart the restore sequence.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.

I looked in the msdb..log_shipping_secondary_databases and looked for the last file that it restored and tried restoring it again with the following restore command by removing and adding some of the keywords that you see after the "WITH" clause.
MSFT do not recommand to use continne_after_error unless its absolutley necessary. I stilll get the above error.

restore log sessiondata

from disk = 'I:sql13qasmlogssessiondatasessiondata_20070901124516.trn'

with restart, CONTINUE_AFTER_ERROR, norecovery

When i add the restart int he with clause,

The restart-checkpoint file 'J:Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.5MSSQLBackupsessiondata.CKP' was not found. The RESTORE command will continue from the beginning as if RESTART had not been specified.

Msg 4319, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

A previous restore operation was interrupted and did not complete processing on file 'sessionlog1'. Either restore the backup set that was interrupted or restart the restore sequence.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.

I checked it the backup directory and i can't locate the .CKP file.

Does anyone ever come accross this issue?

Is there anyother way i could recover this DB in a standby or norecovery mode.

Any kind of help to resolve this issue (beside copy the full backup and redo the whole log-shipping process again) would be appreciated. sicne my primary and secondary server are totally ina different location, i need to ship a tape, if i need a full backup. This is the 3rd time its happening on that cluster. its frustrating to ship a tape everytime this happens.

OS Error: The OS Storage System (RAM, CF, SD Or IPSM) Is Not Responding. Retry The Operation.

Nov 1, 2007

Hi All,

This application is developed in .NET Compact framework for Symbol Windows CE devices (MC3090). I am using SQL Compact edition as the database and uses merge replication to synchronize back and forth from Central SQL Server. The database is sitting in the SD Card, however when I suspended and restored the device while I am working with the application, it is giving me the following error message.

Error Code: 80004005
Message: OS Error: The OS storage system (RAM, CF, SD or IPSM) is not responding. Retry the operation.
Minor Err: 25049
Source: SQL Server Compact Edition ADO.NET Data Provider

The error message occurs only when I am trying to work with the application after restoring the device from suspended state. I also found KB Article from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919150 and it explains that this issue is fixed in SQL Server Compact Edition which is what I am using now.

Please any help on this issue is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Ravi.

SSIS Package Fails/Does Not Complete Without Reason, Likely Due To A .NET 2.0 Exception

Feb 8, 2008

I have searched extensively and not been able to find a solution to this problem.

The problem:
We have one SSIS package will sometimes 'finish' executing (or crash from a .NET exception) when it certainly has not made its way through all of the data flow components. There are no SSIS error messages, no warnings, and it never happens at the same location in the package's pipeline. The only thing that is instantly visible is a command window that flashes on the screen and disappears too quickly to see anything,.

Sometimes the package does actually complete without any problem, but most of the time, it does not.

What we see:
If the packages is being run through the "Execute Package Utility" (by double clicking the dtsx file), after a bit, a command window flashes on the screen and instantly disappears (no text is visible), then the €œExecute Package Utility€? disappears. The event viewer of the machine then shows:

Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error
Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Type: Error
Description: Faulting application dtexecui.exe, version 9.0.3042.0, stamp 45cd726d, faulting module dtspipeline.dll, version 2005.90.3042.0, stamp 45cd721f, debug? 0, fault address 0x00019a66.

If the package is running within visual studio, again the command window flashes on the screen, then the "Execution has completed" prompt appears, but any "running" component remains Yellow (no red), both within the data flow and control flow (we do not have any event handlers set up). Neither our SQL Log provider, nor the "Execution Results" tab in visual studio show any type of error message... all SSIS messages just stop right in the middle of the many OnPipelineRowsSent log events (so there is no PackageEnd log event when this happens). The event viewer on the machine contains no useful messages when running within visual studio.

And other packages:
Are fine. This is only the case for this one package... we have nearly a dozen other packages, all very similar in design, that complete without issue.

We have also tried re-creating this troublesome package from scratch with no avail.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
About the package:
The Data Flow is pulling rows from 3 different external SQL data sources (400k-500k rows total), sorting and merging the rows, performing some basic lookups, then SCD'ing the results. This Data Flow is executed multiple times within 2 nested for loops (these nested loops give us particular dates, i.e. years 2000 through 2008, then months 1 through 12 for each year). There is not a single script task in the package. The problem seems to happen most as the data is being pulled from the sources and merged together, but it is not limited to this area.

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><!--[endif]-->
The environment:
We€™ve tried to use multiple machines with the same result. The current machine specs are as follows:
SQL Server 9.0.3042 (SP2)
Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise x64 Edition, SP2
3.00GHz x 16 processors, all 64 bit
63.5 GB of RAM
Over 1 terabyte of hard disk space
.NET 2.0.50727.42

The package was designed using:
Visual Studio 2005 with SP1
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer - Version 9.00.3042.00

Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance.

Can't Install IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server On Windows 2003 X64 Storage Server, How Can I Fix The Pkg?

Jan 14, 2008

I am a Windows developer for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server (TSMS) product.
Our product installation is built with InstallShield and uses the Windows Installer.

On a new installation of Windows 2003 x64 Storage Server R2, at a customer's site, the TSMS product fails to install.
The install of the OS has version 3.01.400.3959 of the Windows Installer and I see no newer version that installs.

Part of our product is 32 bit (console) and another part is x64 (server).
When installing I can see that the install's default is being redirected/reset to C:Program Files (x86)TivoliTSM after it is explicitly set by a custom action to ..Program Files.. . I further observe that our custom actions to write 64 bit registry entries are being refused.

REGSAM samMask = KEY_ALL_ACCESS;
if ( regIsWow64Process () ) samMask = samMask | KEY_WOW64_64KEY;
lStatus = RegCreateKeyEx( hLocalConnectKeyRoot,
szSubkey,
0L,
NULL,
REG_OPTION_NON_VOLATILE,
samMask,
NULL,
hKey,
&dw ) ;
The above fails to create the key.

We have tried four versions of our TSMS spanning many changes but the install acts the same.
This does not happen on any other Windows OS we test on but we do not test on Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 being that it is an OEM product. We did test on Windows server 2003 R2 x64 and do not see this problem.

Do you have any suggestions on how to tackle this problem?
I have full installation traces but can only see that the registry work is being refused. I can't see why.

Dear,

I'm having this table:

PathIDParentPathIDPath
1 NULL D:

4 3 Data
5 4 FinancialReport.doc
6 4 DebtReport.doc

I would like to create a store procedures that will return me a full path by passing a PathID

I started with this code:

DECLARE @path_id int
SET @path_id = 5;
WITH fullPath (PathID, ParentPathID, Path)
AS
(
SELECT PathID, ParentPathID, Path
FROM tblPath WHERE PathID = @path_id
UNION ALL
SELECT tblPath.PathID, tblPath.ParentPathID, tblPath.Path AS Path
FROM tblPath
JOIN fullPath ON tblPath.PathID = fullPath.ParentPathID
)
SELECT * FROM fullPath

This code will return this:
1 NULL D:

3 2 Bin
4 3 Data
5 4 FinancialReport.doc

What I would like to get is something like this:
D:/Sections/Bin/Data/FinancialReport.doc

Any help would be really appreciated. Lost too much time on it already.

SQL Float Operation With Round() Fails Completely

Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 RDA Synchronization Fails On Table With Index In Sql Server 2005 Database

Jan 21, 2008

We have been using Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 RDA synchronization method successfully on Sql Server 2000 database. Recently we moved the database to Sql Server 2005, sync doesn't work anymore, it just hangs on one table. On further investigation, we found out that it's the index on that table that causes this. We removed the index, it works fine. We are wondering the root cause, removing the index is not a solution for us. Any thoughts?. Thanks.

Arithmetic Operation Resulted In An Overflow. (System.Data) - Connection Error With SQL Server 2005

Oct 20, 2007

 We've been using SQL Server 2005 for a while as the db for our web app. Everything has been working fine, until yesterday when we started getting a "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. (System.Data)" error message when trying to connect from SQL Server Management Studio or from our web app.  This only happens when trying to connect remotely, although remote connections have worked for us perfectly in the past. The full error message is reproduced below. Upgrade From SQL Express 2005 Report Server With Advanced Services To SQL 2005 Standard Fails

Feb 25, 2008

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:

SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.

After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.

I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

Upgrade From SQL Server 2005 Express To 2005 Enterprise Fails

Dec 29, 2006

Hi

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server 2005 Express to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
(As a Preparation to install SQLServer2005 Service Pack 2 (CTP))

I tried to upgrade a particular Instance (OFFICESERVERS, which was based on SQL Server 2005 Express ).

During the upgrade I get a message saying that ...

.....Your upgrade is blocked because of edition upgrade rules.....

All other components I selected for Installation are propertly installed (Analysis, Reporting)

The setup log contains the following detail information:

A Complete Uninstall Of SQL 2005

May 8, 2006

I recently re-built my entire system from ground up (new hard drives, OS, etc). I now have the problem of SQL 2005 installed partially, but no way to get the management tools installed. I get an "already installed message when I try". I've never encounted this before on any other SQL install.

Sequence of events. I installed VS 2005 Pro first, then followed by SQL 2005. Somewhere this install didn't work, and I was left with the MS installed thinking I suceeded, yet none of the functions of SQL were worked or more importantly accessable.

I tried to re-install after using the ADD/Remove App from the control panel (which was sucessfull). SQL thought it was still installed. So I uninstalled VS 2005 as well, and deleted any programs in the SQL directory. Then I checked ADD/Remove programs and nothing was showing. The re-install still did not work. My guess is that the registry is still loaded with now useless entries.

Is there any solution left that does not require me to hand delete any SQL registry entries, since that is always a great way to completely kill my system.

Thanks.

SQL 2012 :: Distinct Storage Tier Of Remote BLOB Storage (RBS)

Oct 27, 2014

How to implement distinct storage tiers on SQL Remote BLOB Storage (RBS)?

I want to use this SQL Feature to move files(images, videos, pdf files) from a database to a distinct database dedicated to RBS. Then I want to have several storage tiers, where objects will be saved and moved according access frequency. Old data will be arquived in cheap storage, but it must be always accessible if needed.

Description:
- 1st and main tier: new and frequently accessed objects stored in high performance storage;
- 2nd tier: automatically move older or less accessed objects to an inexpensive and different storage tier;
- in all cases, all objects must be accessible to all users, but accessing to archived objects(2nd tier) will be much slower;

Connecting To SQL Server Express 2005 Using VB.NET 2005 Fails

Nov 29, 2006

Dear Sir,

We are using VB.NET 2005 (Winform) and the backend SQL Server Express 2005. We would like to connect the Express (.mdf) database from Remote Machine. What type of connection string we have to use?

We tried the following ConnectionString but we got the error:
Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Server=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFileName=S:MLJData.mdf;Database=MLJData;Trusted_Connection=Yes;

Also suggest what are all the prerequisites to run sql server express 2005 database in client machine.

We did installed the following tools in client machine:

1. .NET framework 2.0
2. sqlncli.msi (SQL Server Native Client Setup)

Please provide us the solution for this.

Thanks

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Fails

Feb 26, 2007

I have a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 with a couple of SQL Server 2000 instances on it and two SQL Server 2005 instances on it.

I tried to install SQL Server 2005 SP1, but kept getting failures.  I saw that SP2 fixed some of the issues with installation issues that SP1 had.  So, I tried to install it.  Some of the smaller components install successfully (VSS Writer, Backward Compatibility, SQLXML4, MSXML 6.0 Parser, Native Client, Support Files), but all of the base services fail to install (Database services, Reporting Services failed for two different instances).

I've downloaded the SP2 from the Microsoft site local to that server and install from there.  I don't have space problems on the drives in question.

In the summary log that's located at C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGHotfix, I see:

Error Number              : 29513
Error Description         : MSP Error: 29513  SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.

I've searched through many links, one suggested that the WMI could be potentially corrupt.  So, I also downloaded with WMIDiag utility and ran it.  So, I have a log from that as well.  It did have 8 errors in it.  But, the information in the report hasn't really helped me determine how to fix those errors.

While I was looking around, I found another log file located at C:WINNTsystem32wbemLogs called the mofcomp.log.  As my error looks like a compile error issue, I looked in that log file and found the following at the times when the install was failing:

(Thu Feb 22 16:29:49 2007.1910312) : Parsing MOF file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmprovider.mof
(Thu Feb 22 16:29:49 2007.1910625) : Finished compiling file:C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmprovider.mof
(Thu Feb 22 16:34:25 2007.2186343) : Parsing MOF file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof
(Thu Feb 22 16:34:25 2007.2186343) :  (1): error SYNTAX 0X8004401e: This is not a valid MOF file

This makes me wonder if there is an invalid MOF file as part of SP2?

Also, when I go into Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I can no longer look at any of my maintenance plans.  All of them throw an error which says:

Error loading 'Daily Backup' : Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.ApplicationClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSApplication90'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{7591CC39-276A-4973-97C7-4EFEA5A5788F}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))..

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul
