does anyone know a way, using native SQL, to store a result of a query in an image field of a certain table.
The case is we have a selfmade replication to communicate with several SQL servers in stores, this replication is over a telephone line. So we collect all the data using SQL statements and store them in a separate table as an image field. This is done know through a Delphi application that streams the resultset to a image field.
Hello,I am trying to update the Image type field named as BlobData in sqlServer 2000. I capture the record in a data set to have the schema and try to update the BlobData field of type Image by assigning it a value of buffer as below. but my assignment seems to be wrong and generates an error saying Object reference not set. Code========================= Dim fileBuffer(contentLength) As Byte
Dim attachmentFile As HttpPostedFile = Me.fileUpload_fu.PostedFile
Catch ex As Exception Me.error_lbl.Text = ex.Message Return False Finally cn.Close() End Try ========================== Can anyone please help this one out. Cheers.Imran.
I am creating a document management systems using asp. I have beenresearching the different ways of handling the documents such as using thefile system and storing the path in the db, and actually storing thedocument in the db. I like the idea of storing it in the database muchbetter because I can allow users to manage documents themselves (I alreadyhave the code in place to do it if I decide), having a central system withthe ability to add my own document properties by adding fields to the table,security, and backups. I have found that most think it is better to storethe path due to performance issues and the rate the db can grow. I havelooked at our current system in access and we have a total of 4400 documents(of which probably 25% are in the database but don't actually exist anymorein the file system, one hangup about the file system) since 1988. Thiscomes to about 300 documents added each year. The other thing is the issuewith the size of the db. I don't see a whole lot of difference with thisissue because it is going to take up space in your file system too, althoughthe file system may be more efficient at storing them. I would say that 95%of our docs are under 1 mb in size and done in ms word.The last thing is using full-text search capabilities in SQL Server. I needto be able to search the contents of the field.Is there other issues around storing documents in the db to consider besidesthe above?
hi can anyone tell how to use the image field and add an image in a database. i'm using visual studio web developer express edition 2008 and i want people who visit my website to be able to see the table and the images associated with some of the rows in the table
=CountDistinct(IIF(Fields!Released_DT.Value = Fields!Date2.Value, Fields!Name.Value, Nothing)) Released_DT = a date - 09/03/2015 or 09/02/2015 Date2 = returns another date value in this case 09/03/2015
What I'm trying to do is: count distinct number of people (Fields!Name.Value) if the Relased_DT = Date2.My IIF statement is returning a zero value.
Hi, I have a concern about adding a new field to a table with image field - which is huge. Will there be a problem with some databases, where they have a hard time locating data correctly after such a large field? Previously this happened to me, and what was advised to put all the big fields at the end of the table. Thanks.
Hi I have a asp:FileUpload conponent that I am trying to use to retrieve a picture file from the clients pc and store it in a SQL database. The table is called PropertyImage and it contains the following fields: imgID (type = int - autoincrement); imgData (type = Image); imgTitle (type = VarChar); imgType (type = VarChar); imgLength (type = BigInt); I have a button (Button1) which when clicked calls Button1_Click() --------------------------------------------------protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {byte[] fileData = null; Boolean status = false;if (FileUpload1 != null) { // Make sure the file has data.if ((FileUpload1.PostedFile != null) && (FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentLength > 0)) { // Get the filename.string fn = System.IO.Path.GetFileName(FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName); try { // Access the file stream and begin the upload. Store the file in a memory byte array.Stream MyStream = FileUpload1.PostedFile.InputStream; long iLength = MyStream.Length;fileData = new byte[(int)MyStream.Length];MyStream.Read(fileData, 0, (int)MyStream.Length); MyStream.Close(); }catch (Exception ex) { } } }SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\heidihomes.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"); try { connection.Open();SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO PropertyImage (imgData, imgaTitle, imgType, imgLength) VALUES(@data,@title,@type,@length)"); SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter(); // String connectionString = new SqlConnection(sqlCmd, connection); param = new SqlParameter("@data", SqlDbType.Image); param.Value = fileData; sqlCmd.Parameters.Add(param);param = new SqlParameter("@title", SqlDbType.VarChar); param.Value = fileData; sqlCmd.Parameters.Add(param);param = new SqlParameter("@type", SqlDbType.VarChar); param.Value = fileData; sqlCmd.Parameters.Add(param);param = new SqlParameter("@length", SqlDbType.BigInt); param.Value = fileData; sqlCmd.Parameters.Add(param); sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); connection.Close();status = true; }catch (Exception ex){ }if (status) { UploadStatus.Text = "File Uploaded Successfully";Server.Transfer("Admin_PropertyView.aspx"); } else {UploadStatus.Text = "Uploaded Failed"; } } } -------------------------------------------------- But when I click on the button, nothing happens. Please could someone help me out here. I have tried this a few times and still haven't come right. Also, if there is something else wrong with the code, please let me know. Thanking you in advance.
I have image type col.I'm trying to do the following,DECLARE @Data varbinary(16)SET @Data = (select imageCol from Table1 where id=3)As image datatype returns varbinary value, so I want to store image col value to a varbinary variable(or any other type variable, eg., varchar). But getting following error,========================================Server: Msg 279, Level 16, State 3, Line 2The text, ntext, and image data types are invalid in this subquery or aggregate expression.========================================Is there anyway to store image datatype value to a variable?Cheers.

does anyone know if there is a way, or perhaps a custom toolbox control that is already developed that allows you to drag an entire dataset into a table, instead of pulling everything in field by field...?
When i click upload image button when my database table has no any row, the selected image is saved(one row saved in table). If i continue and select a different image, i get no error sa if the image has been saved but when i view the images i have been saving, its strange even if i saved 10 records they all contain the first image that i saved. In short only the first image is saved the rest of the rows are just duplicates of the first row. so it basically becomes a table of ten rows but with same data rows(same image). Code is below. Protected Sub btnupload_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim intLength As Integer Dim arrContent As Byte() If FileUpload.PostedFile Is Nothing Then Lblstatus.Text = "No file specified." Exit Sub Else Dim fileName As String = FileUpload.PostedFile.FileName Dim ext As String = fileName.Substring(fileName.LastIndexOf(".")) ext = ext.ToLower Dim imgType = FileUpload.PostedFile.ContentType If ext = ".jpg" Then ElseIf ext = ".bmp" Then ElseIf ext = ".gif" Then ElseIf ext = "jpg" Then ElseIf ext = "bmp" Then ElseIf ext = "gif" Then Else Lblstatus.Text = "Only gif, bmp, or jpg format files supported." Exit Sub End If intLength = Convert.ToInt32(FileUpload.PostedFile.InputStream.Length) ReDim arrContent(intLength) FileUpload.PostedFile.InputStream.Read(arrContent, 0, intLength) If Doc2SQLServer(txtTitle.Text.Trim, arrContent, intLength, imgType) = True Then Lblstatus.Text = "Image uploaded successfully." Else Lblstatus.Text = "An error occured while uploading Image... Please try again." End If End If End Sub Protected Function Doc2SQLServer(ByVal title As String, ByVal Content As Byte(), ByVal Length As Integer, ByVal strType As String) As Boolean Try Dim cnn As Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection Dim cmd As Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand Dim param As Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter Dim strSQL As String strSQL = "Insert Into Images(imgData,imgTitle,imgType,imgLength,incident_id) Values(@content,@title,@type,@length,@incident_id)" Dim connString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|safetydata.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" cnn = New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(connString) cmd = New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand(strSQL, cnn) param = New Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter("@content", Data.SqlDbType.Image) param.Value = Content 'cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(param) cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@content", Content)
param = New Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter("@title", Data.SqlDbType.VarChar) param.Value = title cmd.Parameters.Add(param) param = New Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter("@type", Data.SqlDbType.VarChar) param.Value = strType cmd.Parameters.Add(param) param = New Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter("@length", Data.SqlDbType.BigInt) param.Value = Length cmd.Parameters.Add(param) cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@incident_id", id.Text) cnn.Open() cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() cnn.Close() Return True Catch ex As Exception Return False End Try End Function
I am using FileUpload method in tools box and i want to store the uploaded image into database. but when debuging it will shows an error like: Operand type clash: sql_variant is incompatible with image this is the code for "upload" button.Protected Sub uploadbtn_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles uploadbtn.Click If FileUpload1.HasFile Then TryFileUpload1.SaveAs("C: emp" & FileUpload1.FileName) Label1.Text = "File name: " & FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName & "<br>" & "File Size: " & FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentLength & "kb<br>" & "Content Type: " & FileUpload1.PostedFile.ContentTypeCatch ex As Exception Label1.Text = "ERROR: " & ex.Message.ToString End Try Else Label1.Text = "You have not specified a file" End If Try SqlDataSource1.Insert() Label2.Text = "picture is saved"Catch ex As Exception Label2.Text = ex.Message.ToString End Try End Sub
How do I store an image/photo/picture in a database?
I have a database called database1 with a table called table1 like:
Table1: Personid Name1 Name2 Address
and I want to stora a picture of the person in the database (SQL Sever 7) c:picture.jpg. How could I do that? I would like to use a stored procedure to do it. Something with BLOB?bulk insert? how does it work?
I just want to store pic.bmp file in server using image datatype but don't getting how to do that .. i want to know about both the actions storing and retrieving from the image data type.. like
create table amit ( im image, );
insert into values ()... select * form Amit will it work...
I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert an array of bytes to an SQL CE 3 image type and vice versa.
I am using the SDF Signature control and I would like to store the signature as an Image. It needs to be an image so it can be synced with a desktop access 2003 database.
I have a VS 2005 Web Appplication solution that uses SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. One of the projects is a Report Server Project. In this project I have an RDL file that has: 1.)a non-shared XML DataSource (no credentials), 2.)a DataSet with a Command Type of Text and a Query String that is as follows: <Query> <XmlData> <Root> <LOAD LOAD_ID_PREFIX="" LOAD_ID="" TRUCK="" DIAGRAM=""/> </Root> </XmlData> </Query>
3.)a field that comes from the Database that is of VarBinary(Max) that is a JPEG Image
What happens is, is that by doing #2 above, at design time I can create tables and hook into my datasets and get the report all designed out the way I want. Then at runtime, I have a Stored Procedure that uses the "FOR XML AUTO" option so that I can represent my results from the database in an XML fashion which will allow me to replace the XML Schema in between the Root tags above (in #2) with my actual data (which still has the same schema). I then save the modified RDL to a database table field and move on to happily ever after......in this case, not. In this case, since an VarBinary is involved, unless I want to get a pointer back for the Diagram Column, I have to use the "FOR XML AUTO, BINARY BASE64" option. This returns an Encoded string to represent the Binary value that was in the Database....and this is the partial source of my angst....read on.
My approach that I described above worked flawlessly in all cases where an image wasn't involved. This report is the only report in the whole system I am working on that will have an image and it is the last one being done, so that's why I didn't run into this earlier.
I have tried all kinds of things at different levels, but the thing that I have tried that seemed to me to have the most potential was to use Embedded Code to take the Encoded ASCII Value and convert into something binary that the SSRS Reporting Engine likes (so my image will show), but I have been unsuccessful thus far. The error message I keep getting now from my Embedded Function is: "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array", which I have not been able to resolve thus far....and I do know that the Binary value in the database is good becuase I can see it in pages in my application otherwise.
This aside, is there anyone out there that knows how to take the value of a VarBinary(Max) field and insert it into the Text (XML) DataSet in the markup of an RDL file....and have it appear correctly when the report is rendered in something like the standard Report Viewer Control (or even when being previewed at design time inside of Visual Studio for that matter)?
Just to be clear, the root of my problem, as I see and understand it, is that I have a VarBinary value in a database that is being converted to a string (ASCII...I am presuming) due to how I am writing my stored procedure and then needs to go back to something else binary that the SSRS Engine will accept so that I can see my Image in the report when I render it.
I am wishful that someone out there understands my problem and has run into this and has a solution......but I am wishful of winning the lottery, too, and that hasn't happened yet...............
Hi All, I am new at this. I found using xsd with store procedure come really handy. However, I am afraid of SQl Injections. How can I tighten up my database's security??Thanks allKen
Hi All, I have written a stored procedure that has a return value (OUTPUT Parameter) and was wondering if there is any way to retreive this value in SQL Server Reporting Services 2005? I get the result fine, but cannot figure out how to get the return parameter.
I was working on figuring out where a certain application wasstoring the multiple selection choices I was doing through the app.I finally figured out that they were being store in an IMAGEdata type colum with the variable length of 26 bytes.This is the first time I ran into such way of storing multipleselections in a single Image data type.Is this a better alternative than to store into a One-to-Manytables? If so then I'll have to consider using the Image datatype approach next time I have to do something like storing1 to thousands of selections.Thank you
I have the Image in FTP Server Folder and i need to insert that image into my local database.
How can i do this I tried with the below Query but i shows the errors as below.
--INSERT INTO AcademyStudents (ImageURL) --SELECT BULKCOLUMN FROM OPENROWSET(BULK'https://iconic-solutions.net/OTA/test/images(1).jpeg',Single_Blob) AS BLOB --Where StudentIdentificationNum = 2 --GO GOt Error ;
Cannot bulk load because the file [URL] could not be opened. Operating system error code 123(The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.).
DTS is not properly exporting a database between the servers when a table is containing a image fieldReason it gives as ::Error::Transfer Status: Transferring Data: (Table '[dbo].[Here comes the table name used ]') Data truncation occurred in table [dbo].[Here comes the table name used ], column 1. any workaround or solutions would be more appericated
Hi,Tasks in a MS Project SQL Server database have an image field calledTASK_RTF_NOTES. It contains text in RTF format. We would like to convertthis within a standard SQL statement into plain text.I suspect this is not possible without some sort of bolt-on, or at the veryleast using T-SQL in some way.Any ideas?Thanks,Gareth
Hi , i have a trigger that start on a record insert . . .This take de ID of the inserted record and start to fill other table in the database.In this triggher i have to update an image field of a table , getting the value from another table .I've casted this value in varbinary , but var binary can take only 8000 byte , and this fileis bigger than 8000 byte . . .How can i proced to solve the problem ???Thanks
I am storing my upoaded images in sql server. However, if the user does not upload an image, a broken link is shown in the page. All that shows up in the DB field is <Binary>.
Can we set this field to a default value? Is it possible to view this binary data.
I would like a default blank gif to be returned if no image is uploaded.
I have a SQL 2000 table in which pictures are stored as an Image column. I want to display then onto a c# aspx webpage without storing them to disk. What is the best way to read and display the pictures? In classic ASP I used to do this: Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg" Response.BinaryWrite rs.fields("ThisImage") but I can't get this to work in c#.
I was wondering if someone can help me with is problem.
I have uploaded word docs to the db which is fine. The problem is viewing. I can view then as word documents but the boss does not want the files opened in word.
Is it possable to retrieve the file from from the db and put into say a textbox or lable.
I can see the letter P using this code
Dim Doc() As Byte = New Byte(Convert.ToInt32(0)) {} Dim bytesReceived As Long = DBContent.GetBytes(0, 0, Doc, 0, Doc.Length)
Dim encoding As ASCIIEncoding = New ASCIIEncoding lblTest.Text = encoding.GetString(Doc, 0, Convert.ToInt32(bytesReceived)).ToString
