I have a VERY simple program, it contains a datagrid, textbox and button
I want it so when I insert something into the textbox and press the button it puts it into the database that is connected to the datagrid and displays it
I have the following code and I cannot get it to work:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<script runat="server">
Protected Sub Button1_Click1(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
i currently have multiple textboxes which input data, i'm wanting the textbox details to be sent to a database, here's how one of the textboxes look: <asp:TextBox ID="NameTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Name") %>' Visible="False" Width="300px"></asp:TextBox> the sqldatasource:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CommunityDirConnectionString %>" InsertCommand="INSERT INTO email(Name, Department, Email, Subject, Body) VALUES (@Name, @Department, @Email, @Subject, @Body)" SelectCommand="SELECT email.* FROM email"><InsertParameters><asp:Parameter Name="Name" /><asp:Parameter Name="Department" /><asp:Parameter Name="Email" /><asp:Parameter Name="Subject" /><asp:Parameter Name="Body" /></InsertParameters></asp:SqlDataSource> i'm wanting it to fire once the user selects a button, but i'm not sure what code needs to be placed behind the button?
Here is the setup. Text Box: User enters in customer transaction number Button: User clicks button to display information about the customer
Now the database has a lot of unique customer numbers. What I am trying to do is take what the user enters so it can search the database and pull out that customers information. I am having a hard time getting that information from the textbox. Any suggestions! Here is what I have so far.
Private Sub btnViewFlow_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnViewFlow.Click
Try
Me.SqlConnection1 = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
Me.SqlDataAdapter1 = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
Me.SqlSelectCommand1 = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
Me.SqlDataAdapter1.TableMappings.AddRange(New System.Data.Common.DataTableMapping() {New System.Data.Common.DataTableMapping("Table", "DTR_Document_Summary", New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping() {New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping("DocumentId", "DocumentId"), New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping("PartnerId", "PartnerId"), New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping("PartnerName", "PartnerName"), New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping("Direction", "Direction"), New System.Data.Common.DataColumnMapping("TranSet", "TranSet")})})
let's say I have a table named "myTable" in a SQL database:
UniqueID FirstName FamilyName
1 Elizabeth Moore
2 Chris Lee
2 Robert McDonald's
I want to create a SQL query should contain a parameter for example: SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE UniqueID = @TextBox OR FirstName = @TextBox OR FamilyName = @TextBox,
and when I type in my TextBox the ' * ' character, it should retrieve the whole table...
hope anybody understood, will be happy to explain more.
Hi there,Getting ready for deployment and I would like to be able to run an installscript that will not just generate the schema, but fill in some of thetables with default data. Is there a tool out there that will scan usertables in an SQL database and generate the script required in order tocreate a database with this default data?ThanksRobin
I need to insert multiple rows for input rows that meet certain conditions.
My input data is as follows.
ZIPCode, Plus 4, Range, City, State
What I need to happen is that if there is a value in the range column that is > 0 then I need to insert a row for every range item.
For instance say I have the following data.
54952, 1001, 10, Menasha, WI
What I need imported is :
54952, 1001, Menasha, WI 54952, 1002, Menasha, WI 54952, 1003, Menasha, WI 54952, 1004, Menasha, WI 54952, 1005, Menasha, WI 54952, 1006, Menasha, WI 54952, 1007, Menasha, WI 54952, 1008, Mensaha, WI 54952, 1009, Mensaha, WI 54952, 1010, Mensaha, WI 54952, 1011, Mensaha, WI
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be great. Thanks for your help in advance.
Hi there, I'm having a problem where the data taken from the textboxes is being inserted into a table twice. I looked online and someone on another forum was experiencing the same problem. His solution was making the "submitdsabledcontrols" attribute of the form false. That hasn't fixed the issue for me. Below is my code. I'm still learning all this so this is just a test page, hence the wacky naming conventions. When the button click calls Button1_Click, all it runs is "SqlDataSource1.Insert()" Any ideas? <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="false" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default3.aspx.vb" Inherits="Default3" title="Untitled Page" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="mainContent" Runat="Server"> <form id="form1" submitdisabledcontrols=false> <br /> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server">Name</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="NameTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <br /> <br /> <asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text="Label">Number</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="NumberTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <br /> <br /> <asp:Label ID="Label3" runat="server" Text="Label">Salary</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="SalaryTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" OnClick="Button1_click" /> </form> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:pubsConnectionString1 %>" DeleteCommand="DELETE FROM [Table1] WHERE [TableID] = @original_TableID" InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Table1] ([Name], [Number], [Salary]) VALUES (@Name, @Number, @Salary)" OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Table1]" UpdateCommand="UPDATE [Table1] SET [Name] = @Name, [Number] = @Number, [Salary] = @Salary WHERE [TableID] = @original_TableID"> <DeleteParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="original_TableID" Type="Int32" /> </DeleteParameters> <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="Name" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="Number" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="Salary" Type="Decimal" /> <asp:Parameter Name="original_TableID" Type="Int32" /> </UpdateParameters>
I have data in an old database I would like to capture for my new system but I dont have the original insert scripts. Is there a tool (in SQL Server 2000 or thirdparty) that will help me export the data as SQL inserts?
m inserting some data in big-sized field and small-sized fields, data of varchar type, int's, dateTime, and others... i am using something called a stored procedure to add data into a table.. now when i execute the stored procedure my data gets truncated (although i made the sizes for my fields ridiculously big like 1000 just in case) for example if i want to enter Jasmine it only inserts 'J' in the field
I am sure there's something wrong in the stored procedure, and I am guessing it's a problem of using single vs. double quotes and stuff like that within my insert statement... the following is my stored procedure:
CREATE procedure addLabor @lName varchar, @fName varchar, @mName varchar, @title varchar, @craft varchar, @lastFour varchar, @SSN varchar, @dateOfHire varchar, @currentProj varchar, @status tinyInt, @project_id int, @updateBy varchar, @updateDate varchar, @address varchar, @email varchar, @phone varchar, @zip varchar, @myfeedBack varchar, @ethnicity varchar, @userID int as BEGIN SET NOCOUNT OFF DECLARE @newid INT insert into laborPersonal ( lName, fName, mName, title, craft, lastFour, SSN, dateOfHire, currentProj, status, project_id, updateBy,
When i use 2 single quotes it insert the following string: "@lName" not the actual value of the variable @lName my exec statement is this: EXEC addLabor 'Razor', 'Nazor', 'mid', 'Mr', 'Carpenter Forman', '1234', 'keOWVozC+wmBvaqgkVkZci5y4vFLdTKfZOVG4C6BSN6H2MBP6pdsIWA0SdPAlPJra0EjEj+uXI/kXSiBuwwnKQ==', '6/27/2005 12:00:00 AM' , 'O.C. Public Library', 1, 3, '3', '7/25/2005 2:38:02 PM', '1233 Shady Canyon, Irvine', '', '', '12345', '123-12-1234', 'African American', '3'
Hello all,I just started a new job this week and they complain about the length oftime it takes to load data into their data warehouse,which they do once a month.From what I can gather, they rebuild the indexes before the insert with an80% Fillfactor, then insert the data (with theindexes enabled), then rebuild the indexes with a 100% Fillfactor.Most of my RDBMS experience is with a different product. We would havedisabled the indexes and Foreign Keys, loaded the data, thenre-enabled them, moving any records that violated the constraints into anappropriate audit table to be checked after.Can someone share with me what the accepted "best practices" are for loadingdata efficiently into a data warehouse?Any thoughts would be deeply appreciated.Steve

Hi I have a situation where i have a drop down list. The user selects a value from it and then a query behind the scenes is generated based on the value from the list. I want the result of the query to be diplayed in the textbox.I've checked a few examples but i don't really have a good understanding of how to generate this query and get the results to the textbox. I think you use the SQLDATASOURCE but still need some help...Can anyone help? Thanks.
Hi, I'm a newbie to to asp.net. I have been trying to get this done but have no idea how to go about to do it. I am using Visual Studio Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005. I have a database "RECORDS" and a table "NAME" with columns "NAMEID - int" and "NAMERECORDS - varchar(50)" I opened new website asp.net using vb. In the default I have one textbox (textbox1) and button (button1). I wish to insert a new NAME to the database whenever I click the Button1. I have created the INSERT command but unsure how to code it. I appreciate anyone can show me how to insert to the database whatever is being typed in the textbox whenever I click the button1. Thanks in advance.
hi there...i want to know how to get a specific data from a database and put it in a label? Like an example i have created a database that have "username", "account number"..example i want to put the account number of the username "kevin" into a text box (vs 2005)..
Hi All, I am working on a report, in this report a textbox is present, which is expected to show string. This string length is larger than what textbox can accommodate in single line. I want this textbox to show only right part of the string in case it can accommodate full string. After using the right alignment I assumed it would do show, however it does not work like that. It always shows the left part of string in case, string is bigger than width of textbox. Restriction from design: 1. Cannot increase the width of textbox. 2. Cannot use the Can Grow = true to show string in multiple lines.
Below is the example of my issue: Say there is a string: "Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services". because the textbox width is not sufficient to see full string, I want to "Reporting Service". Which is of same size which column can accommodate. So I used Right alignment in textbox. however text box shows "Microsoft SQL Server". So, is there a solution to see required text in the textbox.
I am running MS SQL 2000 server. The table involved is only about10,000 records. But this is the behavior I am seeing.The local machine is querying the table looking for a particularrecord. Everything works fine.The remote amchine goes to clear the table and then insert all 10,000records, into the table the following happens.1) the local machines queries do not compilete until the remotemachine is done.2) the remote machine can take up to 6 minutes to do these 10,000insert operations. So nothing on the local machine works right forthese 6 minutes.I do not have access to the remote machines source to see what isrunning but I am told it is simply a for loop with a insert query init. Nothing of a locking natture.Any idea the types of things I should look for to track this down? Ifound this by doing SQL profiler profiling and finding the remoteoperations. Turn these operatiiosn off and the local machine worksfine again, with no other action.Thanks,David
Hello,Can someone point me to getting the total number of inserts and updates on a tableover a period of time?I just want to measure the insert and update activity on the tables.Thanks.- Vish
This managed application was written to run on a Symbol 3090 Win CE 5.0 scanning device. We are using the symbol provided classes to access the scanning interface, and SQL Compact database on the device to collect the scanned data, and then using merge replication to synchronize scanned data when the device is docked. The problem we have experienced seems to be releated to the performance when inserting and updating records in the database.
We have tested some randomly generated 1000 records and inserting/updatating into a database. At first the time to commit a record increases when the database is flushing into the memory (The flush interval in the connection string property is 10 seconds by default). and then as the database size grows increasing the time to commit every single record which is causing the application to perform slowly as they scan items into the database. However, the device program memory remains consistant as they are scan items. From our tests, I found the time to execute either a update/insert command on 2MB sqlMobile database (upto 10000 records, depending on the size of the columns) is taking nearly 2 to 2 and half seconds to complete. Below is the only code I am executing,
In my trivial example below I have a Nationality entity. The entity just has the code and Name attributes, with the code being an automatically generated Integer. I am inserting one record and then trying to prevent the same record being inserted, by setting the ImportType to 1:
After this I truncate the staging table and repeat the process. Unfortunately a new record is entered into the Entity even though the name is identical to a record that already exists.

i have a textbox which a user enters a numeric value i want it to use SqlDataSource and check if the value exists in any of the tables. in my text box the users would enter starting from '100000' or '200000' i want it to check the view that starts the # with '100000' and 2ed view starts '200000' With this i can check in one of the tables and make the selection. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:imacstestConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT [ReportNumber] FROM [AppraisalSummaryBlue] WHERE ([ReportNumber] = @ReportNumber)"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="txtReport" Name="ReportNumber" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>
