Nov 12, 2015Ok so i am furious with Micro$oft now! the other day i was FORCED to change my microsoft account after much nagging i did so and i dont like changing logins too much. (this was a week ago)
now for some random reason on earth without my permission my windows login also changed login passwords to the microsoft account. I DONT WANT THAT! that password is too long and complicated for someone who locks his computer every 5 minutes or so. why did this just kick in now? i changed M$ account pass over a week ago and today it decides to change windows login?! can i change JUST my local windows login separate from microsoft login?
if i try to change pass from settings it it goes online and says you cant use password that has been used before.

Dec 26, 2015I've disabled the logon screen but after a week it asks for the password again. This is on a Dell pc. I have 2 other pcs, Asus and HP and the login stays disabled.why the login screen won't stay disabled?

Dec 20, 2015Windows 10 x64 had been working fine. Yesterday, I noticed the system had gone to the spinning circle... I walked away and gave it overnight, but no change. After reboot, I get to the login screen for 30 seconds or so - with no user accounts showing - then it goes to the solid blue screen with spinning dot circle. I suspect the latest update was applied "while I was sleeping".
What I've tried:
Rebooting (Goes to same place)
Safe mode (same login screen - no user accounts listed)
System Restore (No restore points - argh! why?!?!)
System Image Recovery (No system images found)
Startup Repair (allows either admin to authenticate, says "Diagnosing your pc" , then fails) -- logs to d:windowssystem32logfilessrtsrtrail.txt, open in notepad, shows no errors, "OS booted successfully"
Command prompt (works - but what should I look at?)
Go back to previous build - save my files (fails at about 40%) - I would prefer not to delete my files. (though they are backed up)

Change The Microsoft Account Associated With Logon?
Mar 5, 2016So we setup a MS account for my daughter, using her email address, but accidentally put in my birthdate so it got created as an adult account. This means I can't add the account to my "Family" so I can setup parental controls. According to Microsoft, there is no way to change an adult account into a child account. The only thing I can do is delete the account and then wait 60 days before recreating it. This means that in the mean time she doesn't have a MS account to use to log on so I'm kind of screwed.
The only thing I came up with is to create a dummy MS account for her to use for 60 days until I can recreate it using her email account like it is now. Is that even possible? I would need to associate her current local account with the dummy account and then be able to change it to reassociate it with the new account once I recreate it after 60 days.

Aug 21, 2015I would assume people may want to tinker with their logon screen background picture. (an example of this screen, to clarify, is below)
This is the picture that is behind the logon screen, which is by default the Windows 10 hero wallpaper. If you would like to change this image to your accent color, here's how
WARNING: To do this option, you will have to mess with registry settings. As you may know, registry settings influence the way Windows works on your machine. Therefore, if you do something incorrectly, you may have to reinstall Windows. Proceed with caution.
The first step is to open Run (+R) and type regedit
Once Registry Editor opens, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem. There, make a new DWORD value called DisableLogonBackgroundImage and set the value to 1 to change it to your accent color. If you ever wish to revert this change, setting it to 0 will revert it back to the 'Hero' image.
Restart and your logon screen background will now be your accent color that you have selected. If it changes, the color of your logon screen will change as well.

Feb 2, 2016after an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...

However, on computers with only screen (my laptop), I would like my start menu along the bottom.
Is there any way to set up an IF statement that places the start menu in a location based on the number of screens or, worst case, stop that property from updating across computers?

Aug 21, 2015I don't know if it's my installation, but I can't really switch to select a differet login user once I turn on my PC, and it brings to the last logged on user and his Picture password screen.
Both users have a Picture password and I don't have any chance to pick the other one, unless:
- I select a different type of access
- ask for password
- then the damn multi-user LH box appears
- and I can pick another one.
Then do the opposite until I get back to his Picture password screen. Odd and unbelieavable, considering how well streamlined in Win8.1...
The old way I found for Windows 8.x (HERE) is not working anymore, as I went in the Registry of mine upgraded Win10 and found it was already correctly modified (=1), but the login screen is a mess, nonetheless.
I'm ok with Task scheduling batches, reg modification, whatever. But it's Win10 Home, so no gpedit involved..

No Password After Sleep - Options Frozen
Aug 1, 2015Just upgraded to Windows 10 and found out that my computer which was setup with a "password after sleep" does not require any longer any password after sleep without me changing anything on the setup. How is this possible? Did I miss something in the upgrading process?
Moreover, when I try to check and validate the windows 10 setup regarding the use of passwords it seems everything is correct on the screen but not changeable. Options are like "frozen".

Nov 25, 20151. Initially I couldn't open photos on Laptop after I installed Windows 10 3 days ago.
2. Told in Account Settings to Verify account, Clicked on Verify and no response every time.
3. Changed to User account and now cannot change back to Administrator Account.
4. Nothing in my settings will respond when clicked.
Tried troubleshooting links and all sorts though to no avail.

Feb 10, 2016I am trying to have my computer boot Linux by default, from an external hard drive, while my internal drive has Windows 10 on it. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work: Windows 10 boots automatically at every restart and cold start.
Steps I've taken so far:
The boot order I want is set and saved in BIOS. There's no uEFI on my computer.
Windows 10 fast startup option is disabled. I also disabled the hibernation option just in case.
Still, I can only get Linux to boot by going into BIOS every time and selecting the (already selected) external hard drive again. When I then try to mount the internal (Win 10) disk from within Linux, I get an error saying it cannot be mounted because Windows 10 is still using it.
how to solve this and give full boot control back to BIOS?

Aug 12, 2015On my Win 10 Pro X 64 Laptop I go to Internet Options and would like to change the home page but the option to "use current" is grayed out. I use Firefox as my default browser and it opens the home page I want but in Edge I open the page I want to be the home page and the option to change it is grayed out. Everything I have tried this option is never available. So, How do I change this? Get the button to "use current" to be not grayed out?

Feb 10, 2016I have a laptop with Windows 10 Home (updated). I have already disabled the option to insert my password on boot and logon. I would like to use the lockscreen as I did with a screensaver, no security issues. Problem is that every time I want to go back to the desktop, I have to insert my password. Is there a way or an hack of some sort do disable the password request and return back directly from the lockscreen to the desktop?
