I cannot go to the Control Panel and say Uninstall the program since the Control Panel Uninstall Programs shows only very small % of the programs I have on the computer. Just one of the many problems. I do have a Windows 8.1 flash drive from Dell so I can reinstall Windows 8.1.

Aug 17, 2015Since I upgraded from 8.1 --> 10, I've occasionally been having an issue where my my PC constantly beeps (through the normal speakers) and I lose control over the mouse. URL....Beeping sound is playing through normal speakers, not from inside the tower. I have limited movement of the cursor, but unable to click on ANYTHING.I've been trying to narrow down potential causes, by disconnecting various input devices. One thing to note is that this sometimes occurs WHEN an input device is disconnected or reconnected. These devices include:
-Logitech G502 mouse
-Corsair K70 Keyboard
-Logitech M310 wireless mouse (sometimes used for control of Netflix from my couch)
-Saitek X-52 Pro Hotas (with programming software)
-CH Products Flight Pedals
-Xbox 360 controller
-and another thing-
a program called "SVmapper," which enables the use of the eight otherwise useless buttons on the base of the X-52 Pro's throttle. Normally, those buttons are used to start and stop a small timer built into the throttle, change modes, and generally very useless crap. SVmapper intercepts those button presses and instead outputs a keyboard command to the video game in use. (For example: the x-52 doesn't have enough buttons for me to map essential controls AND landing gear control to the hotas. When I use SVmapper, it gives me 8 extra usable buttons!) [URL] ....
I'm suspecting SVmapper, but I have yet to prove or disprove anything yet. According to my searches, I've heard of a (somewhat) similar problem in Windows 8 related to StickyKeys, FilterKeys, or some other UselessKeys option. Only way I can regain control of my PC is by holding the front power button on my tower. I've tried Task Manger to stop processes (doesn't work) and rebooting with ctrl+alt+del (also inoperative). I'm trying to at least make this PC last until I can get a Skylake CPU (+motherboard +appropriate RAM).

Oct 3, 2015Whenever I try to open most non-Microsoft programs and many Windows 10 features -- like System Restore, for example -- I get the 'User Account Control' pop-up with the "YES" button grayed out, dead, so it can't be clicked. Only the "NO" button in the pop-up is live and clickable so in the end I just can't do anything in the computer anymore.
That happened out of the blue a few days ago and it's the very worst consequence of my making the stupid mistake of linking my Microsoft account to my Windows sign in.Now I also can neither find nor access my Administrator account, or make any changes to accounts for that matter.
Tried System Restore through 'Settings/Recovery/Advanced Startup' and it didn't work. Then I tried Windows 10 'refreshing' (re-installing). That not only didn't solve the UAC popup problem but added a huge new one to the whole mess: I lost all my non-Microsoft programs (Advanced System Care, Lightshot, etc), and now can't install them back anymore.
Yesterday I spent around an hour and a half online with a US-based Tech person from Microsoft's Help Desk. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't find a solution, and in the end I was told the only way out for me was to wipe my hard disk out and reinstall the original OS that came with my laptop -- in that case, it was Windows 7. However, this computer didn't come with a Reinstall disk; it only has a copy of Windows 7 in the 'D' drive so if I wipe everything out I won't have a way to reinstall the original OS.
Parental Control Suggestion - Time Limit Specific Apps / Games
Aug 10, 2015The new Parental Control system is generally a big step forward, though I disagree with the kids having to have an email / Microsoft account and would prefer to be able to leverage local accounts.
One area that could do with a little tweak is around the Screen Time. Specifically, I may want to allow my child an hour a day of general screen time, but limit access to a particular game / app to 1 hour per week to stop them getting obsessed. Sure I can just block them after the fact, but it would be better to allow you to define the rules up-front.
