I tried to do a search but it didn't come up with much. where the Save/SaveAs/Open dialogs don't open and instead the app crashes? I've seen it in Notepad, Paint and Word. If I kill all explorer.exe processes, and then launch for example Notepad from Task Manager, the issue goes away, but as soon as I reboot, it returns.
View 1 RepliesI have pinned "Recent Places" folder (%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecent) and this folder shows in explorer windows in Quick Access area. This is OK.
But why this folder disappears from Quick Access aren in open / save dialogs in all applications?
Every other pinned items show up in both explorer windows and open/save dialogs...
I was trying to save an image from the internet and my fingers slipped on a key. Since then every time the save-as box opens, where the files should show, it is just grey. I will attach a picture to show the issue. Need getting back the thumbnails which should show where the grey bit is.

Except that when I want to save a Word document using "Save As" it prompts me for all sorts of unsuitable locations...My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, and some random programs which somehow landed up in the "Documents" folder. None of the shortcuts I'd like to see there (and which are in the folder, because I put them there!) show up. What to do?
ADDING Libraries to and REMOVING the This PC folder from the Save As dialog? I know how to remove and add these in File Explorer, but have no luck in finding a solution for the Save As dialog.I found this thread, but when I get to the value to be changed it already is set to that.
When you have an SSD drive with a secondary HDD for files, you can remap libraries to the HDD but saving files from a program is a problem. I guess another option would be to remap the This PC folders to the HDD and not show the libraries.
I've tried googling this so much but cant seem to find any useful fixes. Basically most programs are freezing when I click on Save as or Open. This isn't affecting chrome, and MS office, but paint, rufus, snipping tool are not working at all. Freezes every time. Restarted my computer multiple times. Is there a working fix for this? I had this problem on Windows 8 about a year ago but then I reinstalled when I got a SSD so naturally the problem was solved.

After I change the "Open with" settings, I can't find a "Save".
I click the "Open with" to "A specific page or pages", change the Drop-down to "Custom", X out "about:start", in the "Enter a web address" space, I enter "www.google.com.
From there I'm lost. I don't see any "apply", "Save" or anything to keep the changed settings.
I quit Edge and open it up again and it opens back with the default MSN, etc.
Had this issue now since the 1511 update, when i set my image viewer to windows photo viewer it was reverting back to the win 10 photo app, i removed the app, I even installed photo gallery as it has the same functionality as PV, it now asks what software do i want to use to open every time i click to open a image.
I have set the defaults in several ways including file type associations etc. each time it reverts, I can open the image in PV after setting the default, then i close the image and reopen it to be greeted to the which software do you want to use window,
I have a small SSD holding my OS, and a large HDD for everything else. I am trying to change the default install path to my storage drive, but when I go to settings, system, storage, I am unable to change the default install path to my storage drive (F:). Everything else (pictures, documents, music, etc.) can be changed to F:, but app install can't. I am able to manually change it while installing programs, but I would like to set it as the default.

Exactly the same problem with Office 2016 as Office 2013.
I am trying to add an email address from an existing email from the Windows 10 Mail app to the Windows 10 People app. I click the email adress, click OPEN CONTACT, click SAVE. It does not save. Instead, it opens my list of contacts and asks me to "Choose a contact". I have to be able to save new contacts from my emails I receive.

I am using Office 2007 and when i try to save documents, ie; excel or word, i am told i am unable to save to the document folders or previous .xls folders that i had created. The system will let me save the file to the desktop...then i have to drag and drop into the designated folders...with a prompt telling me that i need admin privileges. What gives with this?
View 9 RepliesI'm using windows 10 on my surface 3, Today I realised that almost all MS app like store, groove music, calculator are crashing when I try to open them. I have restarted, checked for updates but none of the apps open. They crash in less than a second.
The only changes I did today was to install Kaspersky Internet Security and now I've removed it but nothing has changed.

I have windows 10 and as soon as i open apps like netflix they just crash after about 1 second but also when i am looking for new apps on the app store when i click on a new app i want the app store crashes

I came from Win7 and have spent the last three days using Windows 10. I do a lot of research and loved the fact I could highlight a word or phrase, RC on search "Google" and have instant results. In addition, if I wanted to save something to the desktop....RC and save to desktop...very simple. Am I correct in thinking I now need several convoluted steps to get the same things done if I can do them at all? I know I can use a different search engine and get the job done but Edge is reputed to be faster.
