I can't drag and drop text/images from IE 11 to WordPad or other programs. When I try to do this the cursor changes to a black or red circle with a line in it. Drag and dropping in file explorer still works.
View 9 RepliesI'm liking 10 the more I use it. However there are a few problems Microsoft has to deal with. In 7 it was easy to copy a program to the desktop. In 10 I've tried for a few hours and I can't seem to copy a program to desktop. In fact when I find a program I want to save to desktop, I can't do it. Is there a pro that knows the method?

After doing an upgrade from Win 7 to 10, I find that the drag & drop function isn't working. I've tried the fixes found here and on several other forums but no joy. I got the download from MS which also loaded the install files on a thumb drive. I then installed using the "save my files(upgrade)"settings.

View 9 RepliesNormally, if I have notepad open, I would be able to click and drag an appropriate file into notepad, like a txt file, and it would open in notepad. Now, when I click and drag files into notepad, nothing happens.
View 9 RepliesI'm used to drag & drop pictures when I have to insert them inline in a mail, or in a FB post or in Twitter. With Windows 10 I cannot! AS you can see here, my dragged picture cannot be dropped down in Gmail.
It's really difficult having to push through folders to get the photo instead of drag there in a second.

View 1 RepliesThe new Operating System has damaged the mouse drag and drop usage in many of my programs that I use.
It takes between 5 and 20 times to effectively grab an item and move it to the location correctly with many false results in the meantime.
Also, many other mouse uses are affected as well, Marking items in lists and selecting multiple items really has become very hard to do.
Mostly MSN seems to have ignored these new problems and has made no effort to point out that they even exist.
Ever since i've updated to Windows 10 i've been having an issue with permissions which im unable to fix.
Basically all of my software and files located on a non-system harddrive appear to be restricted in one way or another despite the fact that i've manually set all of the permissions and made myself an owner of all files.
Here are the examples of issues i've experienced:
1) I can't run any software i've installed on that hard drive unless im running it as administrator. This includes GOM player, Adobe Photoshop, Filezilla and other applications.
2) I can't drag and drop files from that hard drive to installed applications like GOM player or Adobe - it just won't let me.
3) I couldn't use archives and drag and drop files from and to archives without a warning about "harmful files" popping up constantly until i installed winrar on a system disk.
4) Some files gotten locked if they were downloaded using utorrent or any other application which downloads files. I think i was able to fix that by editing permissions and security settings in gpedit.msc and explorer though.

Is there a reason why this keeps happening?
Two issues that may be related?
1) After upgrading to Win 10 (I use office 365) I can no longer Drag & Drop a file into a message body, but it will allow by using the "attach file" tool in Outlook 2013.
2) The Windows Desktop Search is no longer active making those fast, live searches available, like searching thru my Sent folder. The Add In is disabled but when I enable it, and restart Outlook, it goes back to being a disabled Add In.

View 17 RepliesI'm used to run files by drag'n'dropping them on top of one of the icons in quicklaunch. When I need to launch file with some app, while file is associated with another, or just use the other version of app. E.g. drag and drop png file on Paint icon or Photoshop icon, whether i need to edit it with on or another.
But now, when I drag a file of top of app in quicklaunch, icon turns to striked circle (). At the same time (what frustrates me even more), I can add a file/shortcut to qucklaunch by dragging it on the empty space (or between apps' shortcuts).
I have Windows 10 and everything was working just some time ago.
Several programs I use have dark backgrounds with dark colored text, such as black background with dark blue text, someone told me there's a way to change text colors in the programs through windows 10 settings, is that correct? if so how ?
View 6 RepliesRecently I've changed my Mobo, CPU and RAM. Installed Windows 8 Pro Retail and upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Worked perfectly and no problems
But I've noticed that if I need to restart the system I will get the usual Blue screen saying "Restarting", this will then goto a Black screen.
Nothing happens after the black screen, I never see my BIOS image or any text whatsoever (Which I usually see on a normal boot). IF I then press and hold the power button to force shutdown the computer and then press it again it will perform a normal boot, I see the BIOS Image etc.
Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7. I used Word Pad for creating all docs. Now I can't find it. The same docs are in Office but are formatted different and require payment for subscription. Was my Word Pad deleted in the upgrade or can still get to it?

View 7 RepliesI just installed the BIG Windows 10 update (can't remember what it was called, 1511 or something) and so far it seems all right, except my desktop is a little different. One, my desktop background picture was removed and needs to be reset, no big deal, but all my Microsoft Word files open in Wordpad now (yes, I have a current license, just bought 2016 a few weeks ago--Excel comes up normal...) and the thumbnails have these mysterious blue arrows that point at each other in the corners. I think they might have something to do with file compression? But the arrows are also on some of my program icons in the taskbar, too.
View 9 RepliesFor instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?
I have word 2013, and I would like to insert an indentation 1.5 between the raised number and the text in footnotes (see figure 1)

When I go to "Footnote Text" style, and then paragraph to do the indentation, it moves the number and the text to the right (see figure 2). But I do not want this.

If I use the hanging option, it only indents the texts below the first line (see figure 3)

I have gone to "Footnote Reference" style, but the "paragraph" tab is locked. I cannot enter. How to unlock it? Alternatively, how can I get the results I want (figure 1)....
Windows 10 Home.
I created system image backup file at least once a week. I did one yesterday, and today I needed to run it to restore my system. To my horror, I cannot find way to run it. I ran system image backup restore multiple times. I know how to do it...... until today. Today, by the time I clicked Troubleshoot option, there is no Advanced Options to choose from. Instead it sent me to Startup Settings option where I could go to safe mode etc,
I ended up running a system restore. Good thing I do create restore point religiously. But, after system restore, I still have the same problem.......... cannot restore image by using system image backup.
adding............... I went to my other laptop running Win 10 Pro, I had no trouble running system image restore.
