I have installed W10 twice using the update feature. Everything work fine except when I want to shutdown or put the machine to sleep by clicking on those options, the machine makes noise like the HD is working. It then just shuts down and reboots again. The only way I can shut it off is by using the button on the computer.
View 2 RepliesMy laptop, running Windows Ten from a clean install, has issues with the sleep function. About once a day, when I either put the computer to sleep or when it does it on its own, the screen will go black but the computer will not stop running. All the lights are on, the fan and disks keep running. Nothing works to turn the screen back on and my only option becomes to force a shut down.
I've tried tweaking all the power options in various ways, I've tried disabling/enabling hibernation/fast start and I've searched for an answer but I do not have one.
I installed Windows 10 one week ago, but I still have issues with the sleep mode. I configured the laptop, that whenever I close the lid or I use my function key the sleep mode is started.
Unfortunately the laptop is either not entering the sleep mode correctly or is not able to restore it. Which means when I open several programs they won't open again.
If have an ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP500LA:
Intel i3 4030
4 GB Ram
240 GB SSD
I tried the following so far: BIOS Update to the newest version 203Downgrade the Intel MEI driver to an older oneReinstall the graphic and touchpad driver Nothing of that was successful. Are there any logfiles to analyse?
I had recently performed a clean reinstall when I upgraded my laptop to a Samsung 850 Evo, and ever since then I've had problems with sleep. If I initiate sleep, hibernation, or shutdown then the screen goes black but the status LEDs stay on. punching all the buttons do NOTHING, with my only recourse being to press the power button until the lights go out. After which the system acts as if I woke from hibernation as normal. Restarts are unaffected, which is a good thing as having to force-restart my laptop every week will get old fast.I believe I have installed all needed drivers, and Device Manager does not show anything missing.

View 7 RepliesWhen I put my laptop to sleep and then attempt to wake it up, it will power on (going through the boot up screens) instead of just waking up, thus causing me to lose any information open on the computer.
I have tried a few things to try to wake it up to no avail:
sfc /scannow in cmd
unplug all usb devices before going to sleep/waking up
rollback graphics drivers
resetting power plan settings and power button settings back to default state
Is there some memory dump file to fix this?
Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.
Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.
This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.
Just Yesterday upgraded from 8.1 to 10 with out any problems. But, Unless fast start up is disabled, windows will start by itself a few minutes later after I shutdown. Did not have this problem before with 8.1.
Always had fast startup selected, matter of fact, never had to worry about it, had no problems when shutting down, it stayed off until I turned it on. Now since upgraded to 10, the only solution so far to stop the computer from starting up by itself after shutdown, is to disable fast start.
I have 7 or 8 computers around the house, most dual boot Windows 10 pro x64 and Linux. When you shutdown a Windows machine and start a Linux machine there are errors and Linux won't boot (The HDD's weren't shutdown properly ~ the OS's have there own SSD's && share a data drive, this is the drive that registers the error). You have to boot windows and shutdown from a cmd 'shutdown.exe /s /t 0' or similar. Is there a way to set windows to actually shutdown with the standard gui shutdown routine?
View 3 RepliesWindows 10 kept wanting to restart after it has been shutdown. The computer would have its power indicator turned off for maybe 2 seconds, then you hear the fan whirling and the BIOS screen appears followed by the usual boot process.
I don't know how this would work, but my problem was solved by turning off in my BIOS setup 'Legacy USB Support'. Now if I shutdown Windows 10, it would really shut itself down. No problem so far after maybe 10 or so instances.
I recently upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10. but ever since I have a problem. I shut the computer down (start bar, power and shut down) and at some point a few hours later the computer starts up again on its own but I haven't changed anything so can only pin point it to the upgrade.

View 9 RepliesI am running windows 10, and have just upgraded from an Nvidia geforce gtx evga 670 2GB, to a Nvidia geforce gtx evga 980ti hybrid. But now my computer wont shut-down properly, what happens is I click shut-down and windows 10 shut-downs (black screen), but then my fans on the computer are still running. I can restart the computer fine it just won't shut-down properly, also nothing is showing up in event viewer for kernel-power.

I installed W10. This problem appears to be random and happens a couple of time a month. It is really annoying. What happens is, the WiFi appears to stop working. It can't find any available networks and won't reconnect no matter what I do. I have even tried closing/restarting explorer but that does nothing.
If I try to shut-down or restart my computer, it just hangs on the shut-down/restart screen. I have to hold down the power button to get my computer to shut-down. The weird thing is, after a restart, it works fine ...for a few weeks. It just seems very strange.
I use a WiFi dongle. I have a couple of them so I tried each one - they all eventually give me the same result . I have a HP if that works.
It used to be intermittent - now not at all....

This computer is mainly used for school and leisure work, so there are no "heavy duty" programs on there. Recently, however, I've noticed that the computer will continue to stay on and the fan running (or something is humming) all of the time. Is there a way to check what program may be running that makes the computer think there is activity, when there is none?

View 9 RepliesAfter I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my sleep feature quit working properly. There was a point in time a couple months back it did work, but since I hardly use it I didn't notice a problem. Recently I decided I'd start using it, and that's when I noticed the problem. When I go to sleep mode, it goes to sleep, but than when I bring it out of sleep mode it just restarts. I don't get any kind of error message at all, and as far as I can tell my power settings are set right. One suggestion I found suggested to revert my driver for Intel Management Engine Interface from version 10 or 11 to 9.5. I just reformat my hard drive and start over. I'm trying to avoid that at all costs. I see suggestions on the settings in BIOS. Which settings in particular should I look to change?

View 1 RepliesIt is fitting that I should start this discussion on the new Win10 site. With the latest update to 9926, I finally got the sleep menu to show up (updating the graphics driver) but the computer will not automatically go to sleep at the appropriate time. The other versions worked. I doubt this will last as I expect more updates to fix this but so far, the usual suspects have been tried and it is non functioning.
The sleep button and the power button set to sleep work fine. So far, nothing has woken it up but I have a sneaky suspicion that Homegroup now wakes up the computer when another machine asks for its shared folders.
Upgraded to Windows 10 and now the computer wakes itself from the sleep. I have already disabled network adapter, mouse and keyboard from waking the pc. I have also disabled scheduled tasks from being able to wake the computer.
