I used to see icons on my desktop and today, they disappear altogether. There is a side bar you work with and I don't feel comfortable.
The screen is black and if I right click on screen, it does not work and nothing is coming up to chose. When changing screens, I see glimpse of icons on the desktop momentarily.
So, my true desktop screen seems to be covered by this new black screen with left side bar.
I installed desktop gadget for my win 10 and for some weird reason when I am in dota 2 menu and then go back to desktop (windows button or alt+tab) my gadgets (default windows gadgets) calendar, weather and CPU&RAM meter turns black like there is only buttons on right top side of it... but when I move across weather gadget with cursor it just clear itself rest two are black calendar complete and under CPU&RAM meter is something like black panel and when I press button for changing size it fix itself .

View 8 RepliesI have a acer Z5600 and use an acer AL1916W as an additional monitor which worked fine with Windows 7, since I upgraded to windows 10 my second monitor does not work and my main screen just goes black.
View 3 RepliesI had Win 8.1 started 2h ago updating to Win 10. After update log in(first log in) was really long, but that is no problem. The problem is after the log in only black screen and cursors appears. I tried ctrl+alt+delete it works but wen i click on task manager it sends me back with message. Task Manager Stopped Responding.
I tried Restart,Safe Mode with internet connection,Safe Mode(it fails even in safe mode). I will now even try delete all my personal documents and setting maybe that will work (clean install). *Clean install worked* (hour 2 later)
Upgrading now video card driver i guess different drivers because diff. OS and DirectX( DirectX 12 i think ). But with clean installed Win 10 did not activated by it self (6 hours later). Went to activated manually by press of a button but failed for some reason have to now wait for tomorrow to talk to microsoft people.
When I boot my pc sometimes I get a black screen. But by pressing ctr alt & delete I can log out, and then login and its then OK. I have reset my pc but its still the same.
View 4 RepliesI have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had problems going into and out of sleep mode which seem have been resolved by installing updates for Intel Graphics. Now I can't get anything to come up when I left click on the Start button. All of the other icons in the task bar will only work with a left click of the mouse, nothing happens with a right click. Also, I did not get Cortana when I upgraded to Windows 10 on this device. I also upgraded another lap top and have Cortana on that one. With all of these problems occurring one after the other, can I reinstall Windows 10?
View 14 RepliesAfter I bootup my desktop shows then after a few minutes it turns into a black screen with cursor only. Ctrl+alt+delete is working and I managed to get into file explorer by "open file location" in task manager>processes.
I tried checking updates for windows but I am updated, I tried reinstalling my amd driver for windows 10 and tried the method windows+p-down-down-enter since I saw in other threads that windows 10 "detects" two monitors due to two graphic cards.
Same thing happens in safe mode. I think some services of windows exits and I can't pinpoint what. Even the keyboard shortcuts like volume doesn't work except for brightness.
Images below is the only way I get to my apps, I just right click on this pc then properties to get to control panel.
I have an HP ENVY 4 notebook PC (64-bit OS/x64-Based processor) and I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, the only issue is that my screen is black with the cursor, so if I hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and open Task Manager and then run new task Explorer.exe my desktop comes back And I can see my apps but then it goes back to black.
View 2 RepliesAfter upgrading to windows 10, my desktop will flash to a black screen for a few seconds and the desktop seems to refresh itself. Every time this happens it will close out of any files I have open and will even change focus to the desktop for several programs. This happens every 1 to 3 minutes. Have had this problem from day 1 of upgrading to windows 10.
I have looked for solutions to the problem, however, none of the solutions have worked for me. Other users had problems that occurred with the iCloud (which i don't have installed) and reporting services (tried turning these services off and nothing changed).
I installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.
View 1 RepliesI've got a Lenovo Desktop that was upgraded from 8.1 to 10 just after the release. I have a Toshiba Laptop which I upgraded from 7 to 10 about a month ago. Occasionally, the desktop screen for the desktop would be the default desktop image for the Toshiba laptop with "Toshiba" in the lower right corner.
Last night I performed a clean install of 10 on my Laptop. I went to bed and let the laptop work the updates as I was sleeping. When I woke up the Lenovo, again, the desktop showed the Toshiba default image rather than the one I had changed it to previously.
I had researched the issue but only after making this post is when I realized that all accounts under the same Microsoft ID will sync, including the desktop personalization. Not exactly a feature that I like. I'd like to turn that feature off.
I have Windows 10 Home 10240 build upgraded from Windows 8.1 Core. I have a inconvenient problem, if i create a new folder on the desktop. Right-Click -> New -> Folder, seems that explorer.exe crashes. Everything disappears desktop icon, taskbar. After 1 or 2 seconds everything comes back to normal and folder is created.

So I have a bit of a problem where my screen flashes, I instantly thought it was display drivers so I uninstalled them only to worsen the problem, the computer restarted with a black screen which later turned into a desktop screen with no icons and a flashing screen (can't click anything or even load up the start menu with the windows key). I put it into safe mode but it does the same thing. Nothing works except task manager and i can't run task from it or it will exit out, system restore doesn't fix the issue either. Computer is a lenovo k450 i5-4440 8gb ram 1tb hdd with an evga gtx 760.

I have not added anything or changed anything and all of a sudden for the past four days this has cropped up.
I have the bare minimum items in my start up folder.
I just upgraded to windows 10 and when I right click on the desktop and click on "Personalize" or "Display Settings" I get the following error message:"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel".
View 1 RepliesI am having a problem on Windows 10 where the desktop has been taken over by the start menu. I am no longer able to resize windows as one would on a desktop, but rather they are treated as apps. I will try to post some pictures of the problem. It is almost like Windows 10 has forgotten that it is not Windows 8 and has in addition deleted the desktop. I will try to post some pictures of what the problem looks like (the image in the background was my desktop background, now the remnant of the old desktop). I have tried changing the option in the settings->personalization->start->use full start screen, but to no avail. I have turned my computer on and off a number of times. The funny thing is that my other account on the same computer does not have the same problem, it still has the desktop fully functional.

View 5 RepliesToday I got an update, and I noticed afterwards that the Windows 10 context menu when you right click the desktop went back to the old version and not the Windows 10 version. Also, the context menu for right clicking in the taskbar turned black in the background. Not sure what changed and how to make things the way I remember.

View 2 RepliesI updated to windows 10 last week and everything worked. Now if I right click on the start menu, the context menu items other than Run, shut down, search or desktop no longer do anything.
Cortana always asks me to switch my speech language, but if I ignore that it works and answers typed questions. (no microphone). I can type in words like Control panel or file explorer or device manager and they work. Clicking on the menu items does nothing. There are many old threads on this forum on the subject, but none of them work. (cannot try the restore computer option due to large data files and existing programs). Just checked on my laptop and it all works as it should (except Cortana)...
Another issue I see (on a different Win10 machine) is when i right click the start menu the links that are pointed out in red do not work. all other links work fine. It seems the shortcuts are broken but i looked in the user folders and they are all there. clicking the links in the users folder opens the screens but using the shortcut doesn't seem to work. it's very odd.
This is a Win10 Pro machine.
Suddenly when I turned on my machine, the left click button on touchpad will no longer work,right click works fine but no left click. This is also true for the touch screen. If I touch the window icon to open the menu, it changes color but does nothing. Things I tried:
1-Connected an external mouse and it also doesn't work with left click.
2-I tried a restore point from last week to see if that solved the problem. Still the same.
What I did to disable the left click button. Could have been caused by a windows update?
