I just re-installed my computer and I can't remember the names of those third-part programs that you could use to change your start menu to look like win 7, the free ones.View 4 Replies
I wanted to add some programs to the top of the left side of the start menu (free space on the screenshoot). I have read about the "Pin to Start List" if you rightclick while holding shift. But this seems not to be working anymore!?!?! Is there another possibility to customize this list or to re-add the function? I don't want to use "recently added apps" or something like that ...View 9 Replies
Where your start screen/menu just crashes or vanishes after a second or two. This only started happening for me now in build 10166, and the menu was behaving beautifully in the earlier build (10162). I am unable to access all apps or customize my tiles. Most of the time it makes is very difficult to actually clck or tap on any of the tiles either to run something.
I've tried to change the configuration between "menu" and "screen" to see if its restricted to one of them, but both of them vanish after a few seconds.
I was hoping I could change the image on the lock screen, but it still appears not to work - when I select a new image I just get a spinning cursor in the preview screen. Need customizing the Lock Screen image,?View 4 Replies
I can place a new folder or custom shortcut in the correct start menu location (current user or all users) but it will not appear in the All apps list. If I go to the folder or shortcut and right-click Pin to Start it will appear as a tile in the start menu, but still will not show up in the All apps list. I think this behavior started with Version 1511 since it was working for me in the previous version.View 9 Replies
Is there a wizard around that can give me a .reg file to remove ''Customize this Folder'' from the context menu?
''Customize this Folder'' context menu : techsupport
I hope this hasn't been already asked. I'm trying to get my "Start Menu" to look similar to the below right image. I've read tutorials and I simply do not have or can not find the "Customize Start Menu" dialogue box. I am currently running the final release of Windows 10 Enterprise x64.View 9 Replies
I'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).
After some time of trying out Windows 10, I've realized that for some reason I am unable to customize the taskbar in Windows 10. I've tried dragging shortcuts to "Pin to Start menu", but to no avail. I have also tried unpinning items from the right-hand side with all the apps, but they never disappear, only have the option from "Unpin to Start" to "Pin to Start". Is there any way for me to solve this problem without resetting or reinstalling/uninstalling Windows 10?View 1 Replies
I'm fully up to date on W10 x64 and have just noticed that I can no longer (as in, I could a few days ago) right click on certain apps to run as admin. I can't even use the 'menu' keyboard button to open the right click menu either, this does nothing.
I *can* do so on things like Wordpad and notepad, but 'admin-y' apps like Control Panel, Device Manager, and Administrative Tools show no menu when I right click, nothing appears or happens.
how I can get it back?
I love Windows 10. I really do. Every time I right-click a tile, select something such as "Unpin from Start," absolutely nothing happens. The tile remains, I can reshape it, move it, just like before. I can even open it from the Start menu. When I right click the tile again, I see "Pin to Start," even though it's already there.
The thing is, when I restart my computer, all the changes have been made. Basically what I've learned is that every time I want to re-do my Start Menu, I have to restart the computer multiple times.
I had reserved my free Windows 10 upgrade for my 2-in-1 Dell Inspiron 13 7000 laptop. However, even though the application said my notification was coming, I couldn't wait. I downloaded the operating system from the Microsoft website before I received my notification. Does this premature download have anything to do with it?
This only happens with the options "Unpin from Start" and "Pin to Start."
I just upgraded my lenovo z500 non-touch to windows 10, and i've been experiencing some problems. first, which is the most annoying, my start menu wont come up, i restarted a number of times and i tried the thing you copy in powershell and still didnt work. and also my brightness level is stuck, if i hit the + or - brightness on keyboard the brightness level meter on my screen changes but the actual brightness level of my screen doesnt move.View 1 Replies
I've been unable to open the start menu or the cortana/search menu for about 3 days now. Even enabling the regular search bar doesn't work, as I Can't click into it.View 1 Replies
How does one go about customizing the icons for file types such as .html, .php, .jpg, .gif, .psd, etc...?
There was an option in win 7 with a "File Type" tab that listed all the file extensions and allowed you to change the icons.
I did try using regedit and change the "Default Icon" key under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT==>.html and gave the path to the .ico I wanted to use and that didn't seem to work.
how Customize the Windows 10 Log-On and Log-Off Screen in Build 10240? i like a black color!View 3 Replies
It used to be very easy in Windows 7 to modify and customize existing Themes. We had four functions at the bottom of the Theme selection page to modify "Desktop Background", "Window Color", "Sounds", and "Screen Saver". Well, it seems that some bone head at M$ has decided that we can't have this something that works anymore! Yes, some of the functionality has come forward to W10 although it now seems to be a total kludge to get to it these days. For example, the only way I've found to get to adjust the Screen Saver functionality is to perform a search on it. It does not seem to be on any menu that I can find. As for "Desktop Background" and "Window Color"; I've yet to find this functionality in W10. So why in the world did M$ eliminate this stuff?
And before somebody exclaims that you can modify the background in W10..how you add a photo to a Theme group these days. For extra credit, tell me what menu you can use to access this functionality from.
Is it possible to customise the tiles, other than size etc.View 1 Replies
The thing is that after updating on windows 10 it is unable to open my desktop by minimizing the Start menu, only via windows explorer. Start menu opens always in full-screen mode so I can't resize it (yes, full-screen mode is unchecked in the relevant menu).View 2 Replies
Anyway, for one thing my start menu is stuck on full-screen, despite the fact that I never set this to happen and the settings say it isn't on. Second (and more importantly), minimizing all windows does not take me to the desktop as it should, and sends me to the start menu. It seems that the desktop is completely inaccessible, at that. It also automatically sends me to the start menu when I close the application/file I'm looking at. I can still access the files there through the file explorer (the files linked to shortcuts can be found elsewhere and non-shortcut files are in the 'Desktop' folder) ...View 2 Replies
Start menu remains open all the time, even after rebooting multiple times. I am unable to shut the start menu and am not able to access my desktop. No application opens in the small size but all only work with a full screen.View 1 Replies
I'm unable to access the start menu, cortana, or even my calendar. Can't even do it in safe mode. The thing is though, this is only on my main account (which happens to be a microsoft connected account), I have no issue accessing them with the other two (local) accounts on my computer. I've uninstalled any software or updates that I had installed prior to this issue appearing and ran a virus scan but the problem still persists. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point because this is such a weird issue.View 1 Replies
Not sure what Microsoft is thinking, but the "most used" list...isn't functioning as you would expect. I want programs I launch often to go there, with the recent file list fly out, that's the most user-friendly feature brought over from Windows 7....
However, what Windows uses to identify "most used". I use one program every single day, it never appears.
A program I used a few times over a month ago is still in the list, when I chose to remove it, no other programs replaced it...why wouldn't the next most used program appear?
How do I set the number of programs to list...the number grows and reduces all on it's own...it's quite bizarre.
This would all be fine if I could CHOOSE to add programs to the start menu (The "real" one, NOT the "modern" one, with it's useless huge icons)..but...you can't!!!
the first item in the start menu is "all apps" but it opens in the left of the screen.
I would prefer to make it bigger or even full screen like in Windows 8 so that you can see them all a-z, can I do that?
I have tried enabling full screen start menu - but it didnt change the all apps from being in the left side of the screen..
I've notice that the windows 10 doesn't have a lot of different types of themes available for us to customize it to fit our taste. I would really like MS to either give us the option to download different types of themes and wallpapersfrom the web and just download it directly into the theme folder directory. Same goes for all the other different folders that's meant for different customization. Mouse and keyboard icon skin should be download it automatically into the mouse Folder etc this would make it a lot less complicated for even the novice users to be able to customize how they want they're desktop or laptop to look like. I love to customize my desktop the way I want it to look and that just brings unique only to me.View 3 Replies
Can "Search the web and Windows" be set to search only Windows locally? I've read that this can be done via a policy editor, but I work in Windows 10 Home, and that option isn't directly available.View 19 Replies
