Jan 31, 2016Which registry setting allows you to open the Links (Common Places FS Folder) explorer navigation pin as a drop down, as was the default behavior prior to the quick access pin being added in Win10?
For example, the Reg below will pin the Links folder back to the Explorer Nav Pane, however since the placeholders in the Links folder are shortcuts and not actual directories, no dropdown is able to be produced in the way that Windows 8 and backwards was able to.
Quick Access unfortunately doesn't offer the ability to rename anything pinned to it.
For example, I have a shortcut in the Links folder for both Start Menu locations (ProgramData and AppData), which I've renamed to differentiate between the two, however doing the same with Quick Access pins two folders named Start Menu as pinned placeholders... obviously a programmer missed that caveat of Quick Access.

How To Remove Folder From Navigation Pane In Windows Explorer
Aug 18, 2015I recently uninstalled Adobe Creative Cloud. Even after uninstalling, a folder named "Creative Cloud Files" remains in the File Explorer. I can't find a way to delete this. How can I remove this folder?

Aug 3, 2015I recently got an SSD, with my old HDD set as a storage. I was trying to move the quick navigation folders on the left of Windows Explorer from the SSD to the D: drive (HDD).
However, with the 'My Music' shortcut, I accidently moved it to just the D: drive, rather than a folder within the D: Drive. This means the 'My Music' now directs me to straight to the D: drive, and when I try and move it, Windows says access is denied.
Inability To Open File Explorer From Start Menu
Jan 1, 2016I am not able to open the file explorer through the option on the start menu, or by clicking on the file explorer pinned to the task bar. When I click the pinned file explorer the window that pops up says "Windows cannot find ''. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I am able to navigate through to my files by going to the start menu file explorer's jump list (clicking the arrow to the right of the file explorer option on the start menu).
All of these issues began after I had been messing around with custom themes. I ran UltraUXThemePatcher_3.0.4 and then I changed the following files (themeui.dll,uxinit.dll, and uxtheme.dll). Next, I ran a registry editor file that made it so I can take ownership via right click. I also followed these steps in this article: [Windows 10 Tip] Remove Icons from Navigation Pane of This PC - AskVG up to the end of "Part 2: Remove Quick Access Icon From Navigation Pane of This PC". The last thing I did was install a custom icon pack.
Lost Some File Associations - Start Menu And Tray Icons Not Opening
Oct 24, 2015I do not know what happened, but I lost some file associations, such as opening .torrent files and magnetic links with utorrent and text files (.ini, .txt etc.) with Notepad++. Additionally, Start Menu and tray options, such as volume slider and wi-fi menu are not opening anymore. Settings starts, though. Dec 25, 2015Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

Oct 19, 2015Using Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?

Aug 8, 2015I just installed Windows 10. Not sure if I like it, but I'm trying hard.
Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
Editing A File Causes Freeze File Explorer
Dec 7, 2015When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.
Explorer Not Showing Desktop Icons?
Aug 18, 2015I noticed that when opening Desktop in Windows Explorer, it doesn't show any of the icons of This PC, My Documents, Network and Recycle Bin. I have enabled these icons to be shown on the Desktop through the "Desktop Icons Settings" option. However, Explorer ignores them and only shows icons that are manually put on the Desktop.

Nov 6, 2015After several hours on my pc i open a windows explorer window and this comes up;
Now if i open up a new explorer window on top of that this comes up;
If you notice the icons are gone, if i close both windows and open a new one it starts over from the top.
Other issue is if i click on properties on files like images no property window comes up, i bet there is more but this just happen an hour ago. Everything works apart from that, bluetooth headset, games, videos, browsers, email etc. and... windows search doesnt work, doesnt turn out any results even if i search for something like notepad
Icons Are Missing From Desktop - Taskbar And Explorer
Sep 17, 2015It's been a few days now since icons aren't showing everywhere including Desktop (really bugs me, this one), Taskbar (Not actually disappeared, but deformed), and File Explorer. I did things like calling Task Manager up and end the process of explorer.exe and run it again, no luck. I restarted Windows, yielded no results. I also tried turning the machine off and on again, to no avail.
Here are some screenshots regarding the problem I am facing.
While Desktop and Explorer are not working as well as they should, Start Menu and Tablet Mode appear to be quite fine by themselves.
My machine is running Windows 10 Home Edition, not Insider Preview. I don't know how to find the version/build numbers, but I'm positive it's the latest build available since I just checked Windows Update.
Right Clicking On Non-system Icons Causes Runtime Error In Explorer
Jan 4, 2016I have a Surface Pro 3 with windows 10 ENT. Everytime I right-click on files that aren't system icons (my computer and things like that) I get this message:
I have booted with a clean boot. I have corporate antivirus that I cannot remove and I do have the classic start menu app installed ( I have removed this in the process of trouble shooting but have since reinstalled it as it had no positive effect)

Using File Explorer
Aug 26, 2015In Windows 7 when I open Windows Explorer it comes up with a very simple window that has very basic tabs, Organise, Share With Burn, New Folder. Organise then has a very basic drop down menu.
When I use File Explorer in Windows 10 it comes up with a much more detailed menu that offers four menus, File, Home, Share, View.
Is there any way I can use a window similar to Windows 7? I'm sure it is there somewhere as when you attempt to open a file in an application a window identical to what I want comes up to allow the selection.

Feb 22, 2016On my Surface Book I've noticed it seems to take about 1.5seconds from pressing the file explorer button to it opening whilst this isn't slow my Surface Pro 2 opens instantly just wondering why on a brand new machine its slower than a 3 year old lower spec model?

Jan 3, 2016I've got a program that creates various file types; some of these are associated with the program and display its icon. Is it possible to keep the file association, but change the icons for some of the associated types so they stand out in a listing?
If so, then ideally I'd like to extract the icon from the exe, make three slightly different versions, and make these display (at all scales) for the three main file types. I have Photoshop CS5.
File Explorer Keeps Crashing?
Aug 11, 2015After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my file explorer simply keeps crashing when navigating in folders.
Example: I go to "This PC" and the window that pops up show all my drives but not how much storage they have/have left. When I try open a drive or folder the window and taskbar closes down and reopen after a few seconds. I haven't had this problem even a single time before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now it happens almost every time I try open a folder.
File Explorer Not In Taskbar?
Feb 2, 2016This is the second time I have posted about the same problem. I can't move file explorer to the task bar. I tried to move it by right clicking on start, then left click on file explorer the menu I get that way just says "pin to start" and more, when I click on more all that is there is don't show with this list, if I left click the start button and then left click file explorer the menu only says "pin to start". I am at a loss, I have had one problem after another with Windows 10 and considering going back to Windows 7. I have tried to revert back to windows 7 from windows 10 but that failed, the only other option I have is to format the hard drive and reload Windows 7. I understand by doing that I will get the Windows 10 10 upgrade icon in the right hand corner of the task bar. How do I get rid of that?
