Just installed Win10 on my 4 yr old HP G60535D. Now I have have to re-boot everytime I shut the lid. Played around with power settings, etc etc but no luck. When I first open the lid, I can hear the computer running, a slight mechanical burp of some sort, then nothing... totally blank screen. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off, then re-boot. A 1st world problem for sure, but kind of irritating.

I had an initial fault with Windows 10 where the start button disappeared so to switch it off I used Alt/F4. That brought up a small screen that allowed me to shut down . The next time I tried it I looked at a couple of options and chose sleep mode...Big mistake. I cannot wake up the screen at all, the computor itself will switch on and off mit the power switch but nothing appears on the screen, it is blank. I have tried hitting various buttons on the keyboard to no avail.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 7 "Starter Edition" (32-bit) on an ASUS Eee PC 1005PE (2GB RAM) to Windows 10 32-bit. This mostly seemed to work, however I can no longer resume from either sleep or hibernate. In either case, I get a blank screen. The other problem I notice is that the task bar separator (with a scroll bar type widget) between the active tasks and the notification icons seems to disappear and the active task icons seem to get mistakenly hidden from view. This is a minor annoyance and something I can live with, simply by switching periodically to the "Task View". But I would really like resolving the wakeup from sleep problem. So far I have tried updating the video adapter driver (which was already "up to date"), and I checked that I have the latest BIOS firmware.

I clean installed Windows 10 last weekend. All went very well. I just started loading programs this weekend.
I started noticing the blue screen stops yesterday. These happen coming out of Sleep. I probably never would have noticed these before because I was not leaving the machine alone long enough for it to go into Sleep. So unfortunately I do not know when the behavior started - from the beginning or after some software installation.

Blue screens are mostly "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and the more serious "Critical Process Died", both I understand to be processor related.
I did not have the presence of mind to test or check any of this early on. But I do have images of the original factory installation and of the fresh, clean install (before any customization or software installs). I do not believe that I ever tried Sleep Mode on the original factory installation.
The stops happen very consistently when on battery power, less so when plugged in. For a while I thought they did not occur when plugged in - this was not the case. They seem to be more consistent when manually going into sleep, not so much when it goes into sleep from Power Settings.
All of the drivers in the clean install were the same as the drivers in the factory installation (at the time I finished). I did not turn off automatic driver update for a few days. I will check the driver list for changes later.
Software installed (in order) : Avast!, Firefox, Office 2010 (H&S), Nitro Reader, VLC (64 bit), Handy Address Book (a prog I've been using for years), Malwarebytes, CCleaner (never run), and Winamp. I am thinking of restoring the clean install image today (start over). Just to see if the behavior started then.
I have a admin password. so when i put the pc in sleep mode it used to prompt for password in windows 8. But it seems in windows 10, it doesn't prompt for a password and goes directly to the os. How to put the password screen back in sleep mode?
View 2 RepliesI have a Dell laptop with Windows 10 on it. When it goes into sleep mode, if I swipe the touch pad within a few seconds it will come out of sleep mode. However if I'm not at the computer so that it is in sleep mode for a while, then when I swipe the touch to pad wake it up sometimes it will wake up but sometimes it won't. If it won't wake up then I have to use the power switch to shut it off and reboot it.
View 5 RepliesWhen I close the lid of my laptop, put it into sleep mode, or put it into hibernation mode, the laptop basically shuts down. The power light flashes on and off, but when I reopen the lid or press the power button to turn it back on, the screen flashes grey and reboots.
What I have tried:
Changing all of the advanced power options
Resetting my laptop (to before the issue started occurring)
Restoring my laptop to factory settings
Redownloading windows 10
Disabling the UEFI (BIOS) setting that allows the computer to be turned off to save power
Updating the drivers that were suggested on the windows eight forums
Downloading the chipset driver from Asus
Downloading the ACHI Link Power Management and trying all the settings
What I've done in the command prompt:sfc /scannow then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.I also tried the chkdsk command but there were no problems found
When I started noticing the problem:After I downloaded VMware's player and created a virtual computer with Ubunt
My Laptop( HP Pavilion 17 ) with 10586 build go to Hibernation from Sleep Mode.

I was working on this laptop when quite often, after startup or in the middle of something (random), the screen goes blank and flickers, with random lines, etc. but you can't see anything.
When I am able to actually see because the problem hasn't started yet, everything works fine, no slowdowns, etc.
Moving the lid does nothing to alleviate the problem.
What is the potential causes? GPU? Battery? HDD? I did a BIOS test that said the HDD needed to be replaced. Laptop is older, back in the times of Vista. But I don't think it is the OS because this happens right at boot sometimes, other times at the logon screen, and others while inside.
Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.
This happening right after i instal 10 on my laptop. Its about 5-10 mins after my laptop sleep then its shut down automatically.. And i believe there is nothing problem with power & sleep settings.

View 2 RepliesLaptop does not wake up from sleep when either power button, keyboard buttons or mouse touchpad are pressed. A forced reboot is always required. HDD light off, monitor stays black and battery light and fan still on.
Have had this problem for over a week since downloading and using Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster. Once the problem occured I uninstalled them but nothing changed. Also there was a few recent windows updates at beginning of March but haven't read anywhere that they are causing similar problems. Have tried the obvious fixes but nothing seems to work.

I downloaded and installed the Windows 10 upgrade on Tuesday. Since then my Dell Vostro 3550 laptop will not boot and is stuck on a blank blue screen. I took my laptop to Geek Squad at Best Buy yesterday and he told me Windows 10 is installed but it will not boot. He loaded their MRI operating system with my CD/DVD drive and he told me my files are still on my laptop. They wanted $100.00 to get my files of my laptop into a flash drive. The flash drive cost $30-40. In order for them to fix my laptop, I would have to pay $200.00 for a one year service contract. Then, to solve the problem, they would delete all of my programs, and possibly all my files, from my computer. That totals a minimum cost of $340.00 and that is if they do not find anything else wrong. I told them I could not afford that and I took my laptop home.
When I got home, I tried again to boot my computer and I got this message: WDF_VIOLATION. I ran a pre-boot diagnostic and I got error code 2000-01 42. Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful. Status = 7. I looked online for information on this error code and found people saying that this means the hard drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.My laptop was absolutely fine before I downloaded Windows 10 on Tuesday. Now my hard drive is destroyed and my laptop will not boot!

View 7 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
My screen goes dark after downtime or after using sleep mode. What setting do I need to fix? I have auto sleep after 20 minutes of non-use already.

I got the small new Windows window icon and the spinning circle below it then the screen goes blank and nothing! ?!
View 3 RepliesI am having a hard time trying to get back to normal mode. My external monitor vga driver was automatically turned off when computer restarted in safe mode. Now, I am working blind, I know there is a sequels of keys to press when computer starts up in order to return to normal mode.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. The computer is connected to the home network via a gigabit switch. I notice that when the computer is in sleep mode ,there is still network activity but only the 10 mb/s connection LED is lit. When I had win7 OS and computer is in sleep mode , that same LED on the network switch would be off signifying no network activity at all .
Is this normal for Win 10 ?
After the update, I have Windows 10 installed on my laptop. I was not asked to change my password to a pin. I thought this was odd, because that was the process with another laptop at work that I have successfully updated. Thinking nothing about it, I proceeded, and it looks as if everything is updated properly. I don't have anymore current updates to install and have shut down and restarted this laptop several times using my password. I was wanting to set a pin, so I went into Settings/Account/Sign-In Options. The screen never shows any information and the active circle indicator just keeps gyrating in a circle. Here's a snip ....
View 1 RepliesMy laptop, running Windows Ten from a clean install, has issues with the sleep function. About once a day, when I either put the computer to sleep or when it does it on its own, the screen will go black but the computer will not stop running. All the lights are on, the fan and disks keep running. Nothing works to turn the screen back on and my only option becomes to force a shut down.
I've tried tweaking all the power options in various ways, I've tried disabling/enabling hibernation/fast start and I've searched for an answer but I do not have one.
I have a Lenovo P580 laptop. The screen wire got shorted out, so I just always connected it to a TV and never really had a problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. After getting that issue with the start menu and cortana not working, I tried the make another profile, etc stuff from the internet. I changed my laptop to always load into safe mode using command prompt... NOW, every time it loads up, it loads into safe mode... only problem is I can't see it or do anything because the output for my tv doesn't work.
So... I bought a new wire for the laptop screen... nothing. Bought a new screen... nothing. So I assume the motherboard is damaged... The HDMI and VGA ports worked up till I set it to boot into safe mode...
Is there anything I can do? short of replacing the motherboard?
Whenever I close my laptop lid to put Windows 10 to sleep, it won't turn off properly - the computer continues to run, as indicated by the power button and the three lights on the side of the laptop, but I'm stuck on a black screen and the only way to get out of it is holding the power button and turning it off completely. Anyway to fix this?

It does the download and looks like it is all downloading fine and it starts rebooting and then it goes to a blank blue screen and doesn't go off the screen. I have to turn my laptop off just to do something on it, it then restores my old version of windows and doesn't download windows 10.
I then check the update and it says "failed" with the error details "code 8007002C"
