Networking :: Can't Stop Sharing Folder

Sep 4, 2015

I Upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago, I shared one of the folders on my desktop and now I can't close the share.

When I click stop sharing on both the ribbon and the context specific menu, after I right click the folder, nothing happens.

Networking :: Cannot Stop Sharing A Folder On Network

Oct 31, 2015

I've got a problem in stopping sharing some folders across my home network. Not sure if it matters, but I'm on Windows 10 Pro, running my admin user account.

Anyways, I have a folder I want to unshare from my network called Pictures2 which I believe is empty. The problem is I don't seem to have access to it even though it seems to originate from my PC.

While I was able to unshare the 'Videos2' folder by going into the Properties normally, I can't stop sharing 'Pictures2' from my network even though my computer is the one sharing it. Double-clicking gives a "Windows cannot access XXX" error.

I did notice a difference between these folders which may or may not be important - The Pictures2 folder doesn't have an owner (either that or it can't display it in advanced security settings) while the Videos2 owner was SYSTEM.

My user account was in the 'shared' list of both these two folders which is strange, as I couldn't access Pictures2 but could access Videos2.

Honestly I don't know how or when they were even created and I can't find them on my local drive if they're even meant to be there.

I tried using the manual cmd method suggested in another thread but get this:

I would like this Pictures2 folder unshared, and if I know where it's located on my PC I can delete it too.

Networking :: Network File Sharing

Jan 26, 2016

I need this for work. I don't want to have to buy a laptop with Windows just to do this. I am running UbuntuGnome 15.10 on my laptop. I need to connect to file shares on a Windows 10 Desktop on the same network. This desktop has one user. The user has it set up so that when computer is powered on, it automatically logs into the user's account without a password. I need to access a folder that is shared on that machine.

When I attempt to access it from laptop, I am prompted for a USER ID and PASSWORD for the WORKGROUP. If I enter the user's ID without Password, i cannot access the folder. I have tried different combinations but cannot get access. I want to automount this when I log into my laptop as I need access to work.

Networking :: Sharing Files To Windows XP?

Oct 4, 2014

Well, I've just about configured everything I need for Windows 10. Last is file sharing. It's the same old story with Microsoft sharing. See from one, can't see from another. I'm not using homegroup. The problem or error I receive is that on the XP laptop, the message says I don't have permissions. Need file sharing with the old Windows platforms and Win10?

I'm using windows 10 prof 32 bit and joining a domain.

I'm trying to share printer and folders but everytime people trying to connect it, they need to enter user and password to access it. I know the way to fix it is by turning off the password sharing in the network sharing but the option to turn off / on password sharing in network sharing simply doesn't exist. How to turn it off?

Networking :: Sharing Ethernet And WiFi Connections On One Computer

Jan 15, 2016

My desktop is connected to my router by Ethernet. However, the printer I use is in my wife's office on another floor. It is a wireless Epson Artisan 730. I have added a Dlink DWA-171 wireless usb adapter to my desktop to print wirelessly to the Epson.

However, every time I want to print, I have to disable my Ethernet connection so the WiFi connection will see the printer. Then I'm done printing and I re-enable the Ethernet (faster, more stable).

Networking :: Unable To Host Virtual Network For Internet Sharing

Sep 2, 2015

I've been getting the following error : "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation" Things I've already done trying to solve the problem:

1) Clean install of Windows 10.

2) Made sure my WiFi network card doesn't go to Sleep, by disabling that option in the Power Management.

3) Have set hosted network mode to allow

4) Made sure that my network with internet access is set to sharing

Additional info: It was working fine untill some random windows update, after which the PC started getting BSOD when trying to host a network. Reinstalling drivers started giving me this error instead of BSOD. Then I rolled back to windows 8.1 and checked again. It was working flawlessly. I assumed it to be a driver problem, so I upgraded to Windows 10 again and this error is back.

Networking :: Turning Off Password Protected Sharing On Private Network?

Nov 6, 2015

I have a Windows 10 PC, with one of it's functions being that of a file server/NAS for my home network. I set it up with password protected sharing and a user account/password that everyone knows and uses to access it. I didn't really have any reason to use password protected sharing at the time, but it was the default so I left it.

Now I have a couple of network streaming devices that can't handle password protected sharing, so I was considering turning it off. Is there any reason not to turn off password protected sharing on a private network? Obviously I don't mind everyone on the network having access, but I was wondering if it had any other potential security benefits that I haven't thought of.

Networking :: TP File / Printer Sharing Doesn't Work In Mixed Environments

Oct 13, 2014

I'll first describe my LANs network environment. Three Windows PCs and one Linux PC. Each PC is sharing one folder called TEMP.

The PCs:
WIN10 - Windows 10 TP (non-enterprise edition)
WINXP - Windows XP Pro SP3
WINXP0 - Windows XP Home SP3
CENTOS - CentOS 6.5

Using NetBIOS over TCP/IP on each PCs for name and IP address resolution
No hosts file contains the names of the LANs PCs
The Computer Browser service is active on WIN10
The Computer Browser service is disabled on all the other Windows PCs
Samba services on CENTOS is on but the master browser in the WIN10 PC

Firewalls on all PCs is off except for WIN10 but the rules allow file/printer service through The same primary user account is used to logon to each PC No HomeGroup networking used. All PCs are in the same workgroup=LANSYS

Now with all that stated, I'll describe the problem. From WIN10, I can see the list of PCs in the workgroup and access the shared folder TEMP on each PC

From WINXP, I cannot see the list of PCs in the workgroup and can only access the shared folder TEMP on the other PCs when I use the IP address of those PCs in either My Network Places, Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer. I always receive the "Workgroup not accessible ...." popup window when attempting to view LANSYS from My Network Places.

From WINXP0, it's the same as WINXP

From CENTOS, in order to see shares I use the smbclient command. When I execute the command for WIN10, the command fails and reports that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled on WIN10

But NetBIOS has to working on the LAN because I can ping each PC from any PC. I executed ipconfig/all on each Windows PC and it displays NetBIOS is enabled.

So it appears that NetBIOS Sessions service over port 139 inbound traffic on WIN10 is either buggy, crippled, or broken.

How To Stop Photos App From Displaying Thumbnails Of User / Pictures Folder

Aug 1, 2015

If you start up the Windows Photos app, it opens with a screen displaying all the photos in your user/pictures folder in thumbnail form which I find highly annoying. I want it to start with a blank screen. Is there a way to do this? I thought I might get it to clear up by pointing the folder it monitors to an empty folder and removing the user/pictures folder from settings but the thumbnails are still there...

Networking :: Windows Will Not Stop Changing Network Location To Public

Jan 25, 2016

I have been fighting this problem ever since Windows 7. Every time I try to access my computer from another device on my network, I find I am unable to connect. I go into the Ethernet settings, and see that Make This PC Discoverable is turned off. If I switch it on, go back, and then immediately open the settings again , it is switched off again. When I look at my Network and Sharing Center, my network is set to Public network.

The only way I've been able to successfully set it to Private and keep the Make This PC Discoverable setting turned on is to change the Category setting in the registry for my network to 1. It works, and I'm able to do whatever it was I wanted to do over the network. But then the next time I want to access my PC from my LAN again, same thing.I have tried all the suggestions I can find, most of which are mentioned here: Network Location - Set to Private or Public in Windows 8.Nothing prevents it from going back to Public again after a while. This is incredibly frustrating as it completely defeats the purpose of having a local area network!

Networking :: Internet Pages Will Stop Loading - Default Gateway Is Not Available

Aug 22, 2015

I recently got a new laptop and I've been having trouble with connecting to the internet. Several times a day, internet pages will stop loading and Windows diagnostics will come up with the message "The default gateway is not available". This is fixed by resetting the Wifi adapter. I've contacted my ISP and they say that there's nothing wrong with my connection so I'm guessing it's either something wrong with my laptop or the router.

Networking :: WiFi Stop Working / Shows Only One Network And It Doesn't Connect

Feb 2, 2016

Product Name: Hp Omen 15
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Wifi card: Intel Wireless-N 7260

since some days my wifi has stopped working. If I click on Wifi icon it shows only ONE (max two) NETWORK:And I live in a building with 20+ networks, as you can see from WiFi Analyzer (I'm the red one on the right). If I deactive/reactive Wifi with fn+f12, it goes to Airplane mode and to Wifi mode again and it eventually shows all the networks/My Wifi is on the top. If it's saved, Windows connects to it and then it drops the connection; if it's not saved and I try to connect, it says "You're not able to connect to this network".The fun fact is that after some seconds every network disappear and only one is showed (probably the neighbour one..I dunno).

I've already tried to HARD-RESET the notebook keeping the power button for 10/15sec with the laptop turned off.I've already tried to follow these instructions [URL] ... updating drivers (Intel 18.12.0.3, 18.12.1.2, 18.30.0.9 [Windows 10 default], 18.32.0 [Lastest drivers]) with no success. Everytime I install a new drivers, I uninstalled the previous one + Wireless software + reboot.

I tried to uncheked "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" on my Wifi hardware settings without success. The HP Network support says I didn't choose a Wifi (Really? The problem is I don't see my Wifi on the list!).This is not related to a new Windows 10 upgrade since I've installed it months ago and It's the first time I've this problem :/ It always worked

I tried different settings too/I changed channel, I set 802.11g on my router, APSD off on the router.I set "Magic packet off, ad hoc QoS off, U-APSD off, fat channel off, incremental throughput off, HT mode off" on the card setting without success. Nothing chaned. The Hardware test doesn't detect any failure. If I go close to the router, it shows my network with full power connection and it connects to it. Then I go back to my bedroom (probably 3/4 meters far), it KEEPS the connection for 30/40min and It drops the connection and I can't reconnect to it anymore. It always worked perfectly in my room in these months (I bought it in March 2015), so the distance is not a problem, I'm 6/7m far from the router. In this case It shows my Network (Connected) and the neighbour network...and the other 20+ networks???

The only way I have is USB tethering with my Nexus 5.I tried the Wifi connection on Elementary Freya (Ubuntu linux based OS) and it shows 20+ networks available on the list. It has not connection problem with my Wifi, but sometimes it stops working, the webpages stop loading and I must reboot Wifi to reconnect to it (usually after 30/40min using it). What's the problem? Is my Wifi card broken?

Networking :: Laptop Can't See A Folder On Desktop

Oct 5, 2015

My network is really simple. A win10 laptop and a win10 desktop. The desktop has a couple of hard drives and the laptop needs to see one of them.

At various times it's all been good but then something mysterious happens and we're back to square one.

So I've set up a homegroup and both computers belong to itI've set up sharing so that the homegroup can read/writeI've added my husbands email address as a user on the desktop and accepted the invitation so that it doesn't show as pending

Yet, when I go to the laptop I can see the homegroup and the two computers that are in itI can see the network and the same two computersIf I click on the drives I get a no-permission error

Networking :: Can't Share Folder With Another Computer

Feb 7, 2016

I have two windows 10 pro computers. first computer has a folder on the root of the C drive that i want to access from the second computer- both on the same wifi network, same workgroup, set to private network in windows- no homegroups set up.

I can enable sharing of the folder, but i can't select the user account from the second computer that i want to have access to the folder- when i try to select the user account (from the second computer), i can only see the local computer accounts- how do i set access for a specific user account on the second computer?

I'm pretty sure i remember this being more easily done back on windows 7, but honestly it's been awhile since i've needed to set up folder shares.

Networking :: Network Folder Cannot See Some Computers But Can Access Them Fine

Feb 10, 2016

I have a strange issue on my Windows 10 computer: I can only see 1 computer under my home network, but other computers do not appear at all. However, I can access them fine typing in the address bar manually.

Also, for some reason, "LEESERVERPC" does not appear on my network folder, but it appears on the left pane. Is this a Windows 10 issue? Other computers are running Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 7 and they easily find all computers in the network. I rebooted and resetted my router countless number of times. Refreshing doesn't seem to do anything.

Background: Originally, my Windows 10 computer was seeing all the computers in the network. As I was trying to set up another computer on the network, I refresh my network several times from my Windows 10 computer, and all a sudden all the computers except 1 disappeared on my Windows Explorer "Network". Every other computer in the network has no issues.

See Pic:

I want to emphasize that I CAN ACCESS the shared network computers. It's just that Windows Explorer's "Network" does not show most of the computers!

Networking :: Move Offline Files Folder (WindowsCSC)?

Aug 31, 2015

scanned through the 250 odd titles that came up but could not find reference to relocating the offline files folder. I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windowscsc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:).

I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.

Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Any reliable way of relocating the csc folder?

Networking :: Home Folder Shared Only One Way Between Identically Configured Machines

Feb 10, 2016

I have two machines running Windows 10 "ermintrude and dougal" and I want my home folder on each to be shared with the other on my home network. dougal can see my home folder on ermintrude, but not the other way round. I have been through all the advanced sharing settings on each machine and compared them, and I have done the same for the sharing settings for each home folder, but I cannot find any difference between them. They are identical. Each is set to share as owner using the same Hotmail address as login and the same password. As I said, I cannot find anything different between the two configurations.

Networking :: Access Is Denied When Trying To View Contents Of Shared Folder

Nov 3, 2015

So I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied."

Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.

On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."

Networking :: Home Server Folder Mapping Fails In Redstone Preview

Feb 10, 2016

Starting with the Redstone insider previews, my HP mediasmart home server works for automatic backups, and I can open the server console to manage the server. But it is impossible to map a folder on the WHS to a drive.; none of the shared folders on the WHS are visible, and the homes server is not visible under network. Troubleshooting indicates a missing protocol, but has no solution. Everything works fine on the no-preview PCs on the network. I am concerned that MS is abandoning the WHS and am worried about future official updates.

Networking :: Missing Network Protocols Prevent Access To Shared Folder?

Feb 10, 2016

From one of my Windows 10 machines I am unable to access the shared folders on the other. The troubleshooter says "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer" and "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing."

I have run sfc /scannow, but no problems were found. I don't get the problem when sharing in the other direction or when accessing the shared folders on the same machine.

This comes amidst a cluster of sharing-related problems. Before the reboot after which the present problem manifested itself, shares going in the other direction were invisible in the network browser (but could be accessed via the search bar). Also, the machine in question does not appear in the HomeGroup browser even though it is a member of the HomeGroup.
