I have found that windows 10 freezes up when attempting to right click on a file. Example of this is when I right click on a photo folder to rename them. I get the circle and it then goes to not responding. then I have to force quit.

So I'm having a neat issue with Windows 10 that involves my desktop/file explorer to stop working on a right click. So pretty much what is happening is whenever I click an icon on my desktop (except for the recycle bin) I get the loading circle and then if you click somewhere or open a program and then go back to the desktop it will flash whatever color you have set as the theme color (for me a blue and it did the same when it was red) and then go back to the desktop and all icons are moved back to their very original positioning (right under each other).
Then for the file explorer (I think it would still be called file explorer when in a folder) when you have a folder open and you try to right click something in the folder it does the same and says the folder is not responding and will close it. Now if you have a folder open and you do the right click on the a desktop icon and it does the refresh thing it will also close any folders you have open. Not programs, just folders and if I have music playing or anything it doesn't skip or pause that either.
As for what I've tried there was a video on Youtube that had you go into the Shellex folder in RegEdit and delete some folders but that didn't fix anything. I also tried downloading ShellExView and disabling all 3rd party context menu editors (There were only two, Avast! and WinRar) and that changed nothing as well.
As for my actual PC I have:
GPU: GTX 980ti
CPU: i7-4790k
OS: Windows 10
I've had this issue for a while now because I assumed it was just a Windows 10 bug and would get fixed but it hasn't yet so now it's just annoying. I'm not sure if I even installed something right before it started happening because it had to be about a month ago if not more. I really don't want to have to do a clean install because I have TERRIBLE internet and it would take over a week of straight downloading to get all my games and what not downloaded again.
I should probably also add that I have a Corsair K70 RGB Keyboard and the lighting resets to the basic rainbow setting when it freezes. But I haven't tried uninstalling that or anything.
I just upgraded my Windows 8 OS to Windows 10 and it has left.Old.windows folder.with many included files on my Harddrive. I have already backed up and transferred all the files I wanted to keep from that old version and wish to delete that file and all that is in it. But it seems not to allow me to do that. I have tried numerous times with Admin privileges and it still will not allow be to delete.
View 4 RepliesWhen I right click in certain areas on my computer, I get a Not Responding error. This happens with my mouse and trackpad when I right click, so it's my computer and not mouse. For example:
Applies to:
- Desktop folders/icons/files. When my desktop stops responding, it flashes white, refreshes, and it's fine.
- Any folder or white space in any of my folders
Doesn't apply to:
- Browser (Chrome)
- Desktop empty space (right clicking on my desktop, not any icons)
So I have file history on and working. If I enter file history options via Start menu/settings/update & security/backup/more options/ there is a list of folders under "back up these folders" all prefixed c:users"myname"
Above this is an "add a folder" option. When I click on this and choose a folder that isn't under the "users" folder I get an error saying "But that didn't work. To find out more, look up error code 0x80070032"
Now I've looked up this error code but nothing I've found relates to file history. I'm only trying to include a seperate folder on a local drive.
I've read file history will only backup folders in Libraries and documents so why is there an option to "add a folder"?
I've tried adding the particular folder to a library but when trying to add that library under the "add a folder" it says you are trying to add a library you need to add a folder?
Recently a change occured (after an update?). I have a folder containing only 6 shortcuts, linking to devices or to drives, connected to devices, in my home network. Opening this folder takes about 30 sec. It has to do with those shortcuts that link to drives, connected to devices, which are off.
Apparently, file explorer, when trying to present the shortcuts, also tries to get some info from those drives. After failing, file explorer nevertheless decides to present the shortcut after long waiting time. This effect has come recently in W10. In most cases, the effect is there, but in a few cases, the map is opening normally.
I have downloaded windows 10 successfully. However, when I try to create a 'new folder' in Documents, the Documents window puts out a message "not responding".
I can create a 'new folder' on my desktop and put it in the Documents folder, but I cannot use the "new folder" icon in the Quick Access bar to create one in the Documents folder itself. Am I failing to see something I should have done?
I have a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro and for some reason when I double click a folder, it opens a new folder. Also the the folders that show in the left side pane, if I click on eg music, it opens a new folder. I have 2 drives and when I open a folder from each and cioy from ssd to secondary hdd, the hdd folder instantly closes. View 2 RepliesI just did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10. My issue is that the system is unresponsive, programs are not responding. I took a video but I can`t seem to find any possibility to post it here, so you can`t see what I`m going through. It is really annoying, and it`s just messed up. Multitasking hangs, shows programs in the background and what not... What to do?
I`m also thinking it is a memory leak, I have 25-30% RAM use after bootup....

I upgraded two computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I just noticed today that a right click in a folder does not have anything other than New Folder under New. Windows 7 had several choices (Folder,Shortcut,Rich Text Document, Text Document, Wave Sound and more). My wife's W8 works properly and a W7 VM works properly.

every time I double-click a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens in a new window. I know there have been problems on this in earlier versions of Windows.The ONLY time a folder opens in a new window, is when the folder is located in the PICTURES folder. This is the first issue i have had with windows 10 ever since installing it in august. Ever since yesterday whenever i click on a file in the file explorer window it will gray out and stop working. Unlike the average hang this one will stay grayed out for about 5 to 10 seconds, my screen will go black for about half a second and than everything will be back to normal. I am thinking that this could be a virus but i have run a scan 2 times and nothing showed up. Other than the file explorer not working everything is fine. This is really weird since it only started yesterday and i have never had any issues like this in the 4 years that i have had my computer.

As my computer is only 6 weeks old I have contacted the support line twice, each time resulting in an hour and a half phone call. They don't seem to know what it is, they have gone back to a date before 'the event' but it happened again. I only have very basic knowledge of computers and am not getting anywhere.

I tried going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/*/shellex/ContextMenuHandlers" with RegEdit and removing some of them, but to no avail.
Right clicking on a file/folder (On shortcuts it is working) And selecting properties will do nothing.

Additional detail: Well the properties opened once. After half hour I clicked on properties.
Also Cortana wont launch. It takes several clicks to start. And after it starts it is unable to hear me. But screw cortana. I will probably never use it anyway.
It happens on right clicking on left pane only..or document, music, downloads.
View 1 RepliesWindows 10 entered my computer when the auto update for windows 8.1 came on. My computer went bad! Spent about 10 hours on the phone with Microsoft techs. For example, I sent an e-mail to some friends with photos (not in attachments, but straight on the e-mail).
When the person received the e mail and opened the attachment with a photo, they gained entry to my total personal photo collection! I am now back to windows 8.1, one drive has been disabled. However, I am left with the problem that When I go to my folder with my photos and click on a thumbnail to enlarge it, I get an error message. The photo won't enlarge.
Is there a way to get WMP to open maximized when I double click a video file, instead of opening just the size of the video? Is this a setting within WMP, like play maximized, or is it a separate command?

View 1 RepliesI have two HDD drives - C (main drive) and D (storage) Drive C has windows 10 installed (upgrade from 7 today) and seems to be running OK
Prior to the Windows 10 install I had problems accessing the D drive drive so I booted from a Linux Mint disc in order to access my stuff on D, all went well and I created two folders with my stuff in them ready to access once I had upgraded to Windows 10.
Installed Windows 10 on C drive, all working great, I can see both HDD, I can see and access both drives, I can access one folder on the D drive and see all my files inside but i can't access the other folder on the D drive named "documents" Windows 10 says it's a system (.sys file) and asks for an app to open it.
Have I lost all my stuff in that folder ...
