When entering Sleep Mode the computer is turned off.
Performance indicates that Sleep Mode is set for 30 minutes which I have not used, but when I leave my computer and manually select Sleep Mode is when the computer is turned off.
I checked the network adapter for the "allow this device to wake the computer" and all were unchecked
How do I get Sleep Mode to go to sleep with a manual setting?
I updated to W10 and have had no problems and this one really isn't a big deal but it's got my OCD going. I have sleep set after 25 minutes and that seems to work fine. It comes out of sleep pretty well too. But, it seems that ovenight, the system shuts down on it's own.
I've looked at the logs and scheduler and it seems that the UpdateOrchestrator was set at 3:30 am so I changed that time to 6:30 PM and the system turned off overnight again.
So, I left it awake one night and it did not shut off. Tried again the next night and it turned off. I'm going to try to remove the schedule entirely but from what I've read over the last few weeks, it will create a new task again.
What UpdateOrchestrator really does despite all my googling and don't have this problem on any other PC so I'm wondering if it has to do with hardware. WhoCrashed does not report any crashes at all. Nor do the logs tell me anything.
When windows 10 goes to sleep, the num lock key is turned of. I have an old IBM keyboard (PLY. NO. FL2 Model M MFG Date 5/May 1986) Which I love.
View 1 RepliesI had a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 Pro that started giving very poor battery performance and the case was getting very hot.
MS agreed to either repair/replace under warranty but I needed to ship it back.
Before I shipped it back I did a Windows 10 System Image Backup to a USB drive hopeing that if MS replaced with a new Surface pro 3 I would be able to restore the Image to the new unit.
MS has as I thought replaced the Surface Pro 3 with a new one but I am struggling to restore the image to this new one.
It is asking for a recovery Key ?
Am I right in thinking that you can restore the Image to a replacement unit ?
i am using windows 10 since last two weeks..since installation i am facing this issue .. my pc goes into sleep mode without any reason..suppose i am working on anything ..like i am watching you tube videos or anything..suddenly my screen changes to black and my pc then goes into sleep mode..then i press the power button ..and it again resume the windows...i tried everything .like updated the drivers and other settings..but no results .

When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB70 2511 C276} to the user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."
I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab.
I have a custom built PC. Ever since then I haven't been able to go into sleep mode. As soon as I click Sleep the system powers down for few seconds then powers straight back on to show me login screen.
What I've tried so far is doing a reset with Windows 10 Pro to wipe everything but keeps files on SSD which is my primary. I disconnected my HDD which is for gaming and music so that it wont get touched. As I'm typing this the issue hasn't been fixed. The only thing that I did was some updates for OS, and that's it! I'm completely puzzled by what is happening.
My computer will go to sleep after 30 minutes, as scheduled, but only if I have not signed in to my user account. Once I sign in, it will not automatically sleep, and the monitor will not dim.
What processes are likely to be interfering with sleep? I can put it into sleep manually, and it will stay asleep. but it won't do so automatically, if I am signed in.
In W10 when I leave my laptop in sleep mode overnight, it uses about 10% of battery life. In windows 7 it was way less, to the point that it wasn't even noticeable.
where I should start looking?

My PC is often waking from Hibernate or sleep mode and I'm struggling to work out why. Is there a way of finding out what the cause is in event viewer?
View 1 RepliesMy laptop, running Windows Ten from a clean install, has issues with the sleep function. About once a day, when I either put the computer to sleep or when it does it on its own, the screen will go black but the computer will not stop running. All the lights are on, the fan and disks keep running. Nothing works to turn the screen back on and my only option becomes to force a shut down.
I've tried tweaking all the power options in various ways, I've tried disabling/enabling hibernation/fast start and I've searched for an answer but I do not have one.
So when I go somewhere, like today, I sleep my computer until I get back. Lately it has been turning back on after a while sleeping. Today I left the house around 8:45am and slept the PC. I got back at around 12:30pm and the computer was on. I do not have Intel Smart Connect installed.

View 3 RepliesAs the title states, my computer will turn off the display or go to sleep (not sure of correct terminology) when I go idle for a short period of time. For instance, I get up to get a glass of water and when I come back, the screensaver is up and I need to re-enter my password. This problem arose immediately after the installing of windows 10 on my PC (upgraded from Windows 8.1).
I have already gone to control panel ~> power options but the thing is, even though I've already done that and set the options to "Never turn off display", "Never go to sleep" as shown in the screenshot, my PC still turns off display/sleeps after a short amount of time.
My machine will go into hibernate mode, but will not go into sleep mode. I just want to be able to wake it with the touch of the mouse.
View 1 RepliesI recently updated from Window 8.1 to Windows 10. The upgrade went fairly well except for my laptop monitor turning off after 1 or 2 minutes of inactivity. I have changed all power settings to appropriate times. At times, normally after a fresh restart, my screen saver kicks in correctly. However, after a few times of working correctly, my monitor begins to turn off again.
View 9 RepliesI've notice that on windows 10 and 8.1, task manager would show the my max cpu core speed is 2.3-2.4 ghz. However, my Core 2 Quad q8400 is rated at 2.66 ghz. I tried changing the power settings in windows and try lowering my cpu temperature, but my speed would never reach 2.66 ghz.
View 7 RepliesI have a HP Envy that is only 11 months old. I installed Windows 10 not too long ago and now I am experiencing issues with the sleep mode function. I have tried many other suggestions in power troubleshooter and other "fixes", but nothing is working.
Here's the issue. When my laptop enters sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. The keyboard is unresponsive with the exception of the backlight key. No matter what I do, I cannot wake it and this includes Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The power button remains lit, but the screen remains black and will not wakeup. The only way to fix this is to hard reboot the laptop by holding the power button down until it shuts off and then reboot it.
so im placing the computer in sleep mode sometimes it goes to sleep and then wakes up after 1 min or it just turns of the screens. i found it in the event viewer i think i turned of almost everything in device manager so that the devices can't wake the computer.
View 6 RepliesRunning a Dell XPS 15, (L502X). Upgraded from 7 to 10 Pro yesterday. Played around a bit with the new OS and then went off to other things. Laptop went into sleep mode after 15 minutes as it always has. But this time I couldn't wake it up. Required me to power off the unit, then power it back on. Same thing happens now each time the machine goes to sleep mode.

View 3 RepliesIn Power and Sleep I have set sleep mode to be entered after a certain time. It does not enter sleep mode as set. If I ask it to enter sleep mode on the power down option it will activate sleep but when I return to the computer later it has already turned itself on.
