Screen Flickering After Upgrade - Start Menu Cannot Be Accessed

I have been struggling for several days with screen flickering in Windows 10 2 days after I upgraded. I immediately tried to return to a previous restore point which made no difference. I then tried to use the safe mode to try to figure out if some software was causing the problem. In doing so, I uninstalled several programs to no avail. Consideration was also given to the display card.
Looking back, I now know that the only software that was installed was AVG anti-virus. I spent most of last night trying to remove all traces of it, even as far as cleaning out the Registry, but the problem still persists. The PC is completely useless as the start menu cannot be accessed.

I updated windows 10 to build 10041 and every 3 minutes my screen flickers black. I checked my settings and my refresh rate is at 60hz like usual. Also when it flickers the window that was open closes.

When I start up a game or even sometimes Chrome. It will start to flicker and say that its not responding really quick, about a second. Then at some points it will start flickering constantly really fast.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I've experienced cxonstant screen flickering during gaming. I can only really describe it as a weird fluctuation of brightness, in horizontal lines, up and down my monitor. On Counter Strike it seems to have been somewhat solved through V-Sync but I'm trying to play other games and it is making them completely unplayable.
I have turned V-Sync on through the Nvidia Control Panel and it has done nothing. I've tried running games at various different graphical settings and it has not worked. I have also tried running my monitor and PC from different power sockets just in case the PSU is somehow interfering and it has done nothing.
I have also experimented with running my monitor at different hz but I only have the option to run at 60hz.
Relevant specs are as follows:
Intel i5 CPU @ 3.3ghz (4 CPUs)
8GB ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 graphics card
Dell U2312HM Monitor

I updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10 few weeks ago. The update process went well, atleast it looked like it.
After the update i started having weird freezing problems. It looked like that some process took 100% of my cpu but i was unable to see what process it was.
Anyway sometimes this problem occurred several times in a row but after trying enough Windows 10 started OK and everything looked fine.
Now few days ago there was some updates installing and i got the same freezing problem. I had to restart my pc from the start button. After that reboot i was unable to start Windows. I can see the Bios logos and i can enter to bios but i cant load the Windows. It get stuck before the Windows logo. All i can see is the black screen with flickering cursor ot top left corner.
I can see my disks from bios and the boot order is OK. I have also tried F8 to select where to boot but no luck.
I cant even start on safe mode.. (no selection).
Tried to load bios default. No luck.
Tried with Hirens boot cd. No luck.
Now I am able to start some Linux workaround from Hirens Boot CD and can access to my C: Drive..
I am not having any Win 10 DVD:s so i cant try any repair installation. (im trying to borrow DVD somewhere). Win 7 DVD/repair is not working.

I registered to reserve my copy of Windows 10 about a month ago, I still hadn't received an email from them by yesterday because they are releasing it in batches so I though I would go ahead anyway as they had an option to which was 'not recommended'
That's when all of the problems started, everything seemed to work fine, i could access all of my files and certain programs but the start Menu did not work at all and the start bar was very intermittent. I tried various fixes none of which worked, the only way I got the start menu working was inserting my Windows 8.1 installation disc and doing a repair, but then in Windows update it said there was a problem with the drive, so restarted and it was back to how it was.
I have just managed to go back to my previous version of Windows (8.1) ! SO my question is when I receive the email telling me to upgrade will the same thing happen again? I still have the windows 10 upgrade now waiting in Windows Update, but I don't really want to try it again in case it doesn't work.

And there doesn't appear to be a way to add new apps.
I asked a pair of questions on this topic over at SuperUser that is outlining my issues with the start menu in Windows 10.
The summary is that the Start Menu seems to be relatively broken for me after doing a Windows 10 upgrade.
If I go to Start > All Apps I do NOT see all the apps that are in the two "Start Menu" folders [1]. I do not know why this is.
If I try to search for an application that is c:windowsSystem32 by typing in part of the name ("note" to show "notepad", "paint" to show "mspaint"), those applications are not found. However, if I type in the full name ("mspaint" or "notepad"), the applications are found with the title of "run command" [2], and not "desktop app" [3]. All these applications should show up as Desktop App.
Also, I am unable to drag and drop any file onto the start menu (neither by right-click on explorer and choosing "pin to start" nor by dragging and dropping a shortcut to the start menu).
I've tried everything I can think of to solve this problem. I am not sure what to try next. It is extremely irritating because it makes launching an application very frustrating now.

i upgraded to Windows 10 Home, from windwos 7 home premium. And now i can't open start menu... Also there is no windows update? Is there windows update in windows 10? I tried sfc /scannow and something with powershell.

Any of the items under games in this screen shot will not pin to my Start Screen? They will pin to my taskbar though. It's windows 10 Enterprise if that matters. I can right click and select Pin to Start, but nothing happens. Right click again and Pin To Start is still listed as an option, but doesn't do anything?

On startup, I have it set to display the Start Screen without the Start Menu. When I exit an app the Start Menu is displayed and I have to click the Windows icon to once again display only the Start Screen (tiles only).

I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Build 10074. When I first upgraded the start menu and cortana were working fine until i turned off my pc and turned it back on. I have used the command in power shell but that didn't work.

He has just upgraded his windows 7 home premium to windows 10 by using the dvd iso that he downloaded all went well.
Now his question is when the pc starts up and the welcome screen comes up he has chosen a picture but underneath the circular picture it still says welcome to Windows 7,He thinks that should be Windows ten or something else not Windows 7.

After installing Windows 10 my laptop screen is flashing during thw start up menu. Some of the icons are loaded, others are not. The screen flashes constantly. I have not attempted to go into safe mode yet. My laptop met all the requirements for an upgrage so I am frustrated todaay with this.

In continuing the Windows 8 tradition, let's see your Start Screen or your Menu if you're into that! I haven't done much here yet, this is my VM to toy around with before I install onto my SSD.
Have to say, I really want the Windows 8 style Start back. Muscle memory has me wanting to hit Start, and then quickly mouse over to the This PC tile in the lower left corner. There is no more lower left corner.

I just performed a fresh install of Windows 10 10049 on my Surface Pro 3 and now the Start menu/screen does not show when I press the Start button. Looking for regedit to re enable the menu. The problem existed on 10041 but was working initially after the install completed but stopped working shortly afterwards.

Everything is accessible through the "all apps" section, but I'm adding important items onto the metro screen, and while I'm currently doing this by dragging-and-dropping I'm hoping there is another way (as I will not be able to do this with apps running under Symantec Workspace Virtualization unless I do global captures. If you are not familiar with this product, don't worry about it, you don't need to be to answer my question.). Perhaps adding items can be accomplished by placing shortcuts in some special folder somewhere, or editing some file? an alternative way to drag-and-dropping items onto the metro screen.

At the far bottom left corner of the desktop resides the Windows 10 logo. It is suppose to open to a menu of 3rd party apps and Windows functions.
When I click the icon with a mouse, the menu screen opens for a split second and the immediately closes. This does not allow me enough time to open any 3rd party program on the menu or to employ any of the listed Windows 10 apps.
This also means that I do not have time to click on restart or power down and must do a hard shut down pressing the power button on the computer case.

Where your start screen/menu just crashes or vanishes after a second or two. This only started happening for me now in build 10166, and the menu was behaving beautifully in the earlier build (10162). I am unable to access all apps or customize my tiles. Most of the time it makes is very difficult to actually clck or tap on any of the tiles either to run something.
I've tried to change the configuration between "menu" and "screen" to see if its restricted to one of them, but both of them vanish after a few seconds.

I'm having a bit of trouble with modern apps in the latest preview. There seems to be an issue with the scaling on them so that the border of the app is always a little too small to fit the content, regardless of how I resize the window.
So items on the far right of bottom of a window (including app commands) can't be accessed or even scrolled to.

My laptop window 10 can't be access after i changed a theme which i downloaded. Now it's all black and sometimes grey or sometimes blinks black and grey 1-2 seconds. I did change something on the system32 files. I do not know how to do reformat or backup at the moment. I got lots of important stuff inside. I can't even access to the login screen.

Here's a screenshot of "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog from a fresh clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64
As you can see, despite its name, it does not have a tab for "Start Menu". I remember that Preview versions of Windows 10 had a "Start Menu" tab. Did they just remove at the last moment? And how I change Start Menu options without that tab?
