Searching Start Menu Doesn't Show Results From All Drives
Sep 11, 2015I have two drives, an SSD (with Windows on) and a hard drive (with all my files on).
When using the start menu to search for something, it will only show results that are on my SSD. This is annoying as the majority of the things I'm looking for when searching are on my HDD, so I have to open explorer and go through all my documents trying to find the single file I'm looking for.
I was previously advised to change my indexing options. I've changed my indexing options to include my hard drive when searching, but it has still not changed.

Aug 25, 2015Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox. Tried to download to replace existing Firefox. CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up. Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
- Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry. If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.

Jan 15, 2016I served in the Air Force communications division. I have managed million dollar installations. I am in college working toward a programming degree. I can not for the life of me get my "All Apps" menu to show up on my start menu. I have even searched google and was given every single way of adding and removing programs from the all apps folder but not a single article on how to get the actual folder option to show up.

Aug 7, 2015This is an option on the Windows 7 Start Menu. On Windows 8.x, I used Start8 to get the Administrative Tools menu. But since Windows 10 now has a native start menu, I'd rather not mess with third part start menus. Right now I go to Control Panel to get Administrative Tools. But even Control Panel isn't on the start menu unless it get pinned.

Mar 19, 2016I have installed mcafee.The windows button wont open making microsoft edge unusable and a few other things, like the search bar unusable. Any fix for this other than refreshing or resetting or changing or removing any files?? When I right click it a gray menu pops up but if I give it a normal click i get a loading wheel then nothing.

Sep 6, 2015I am using windows 10 since a few weeks now and already encountered a startmenu bug earlier on. This was because of the Teamspeak Overlay which caused the startmenu to be completely unuseable. Ive removed this plugin and ever since everything worked perfectly, until a few days ago.
I received a complete system update which brought me from the RTM version of Win10 to the Build 10532. Apparently im back to the insider preview. This time for windows 10 Professional.
Ever since ms forced me to install this update my startmenu is completely unresponsive and doesnt work anymore.
I also uninstalled avast already and tried to disable dev mode in PS with this:

Windows Start Menu Doesn't Respond
Sep 8, 2015Did the free upgrade from Win8.1 about three weeks ago. When I first did the upgrade everything worked as it should. Left on vacation and came back, the computer wanted to do an update, so I restarted the computer. Now since the update my "Start" button doesn't work. I can right click and a text version pops up. My "Search " line at the bottom is gone as well.
I have tried the adding a new user, but it won't let me. I can get to the point where it asks "family member" or "guest" but when I click on either one nothing happens.
I have also tried both directly in PowerShell and from an elevated CMD prompt
Go to Search and type powershell
Right click on the PowerShell icon and select Run as Administrator
In PowerShell enter the following key and press Enter:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”}
Wait for PowerShell to execute the command (a few errors might show up, ignore them)
When everything is finished try to open Start Menu again
Search doesn't work in the right clicked menu, so went through Task Man (and clicked run as Admin) But the command just sits there, I get nothing. Copied and pasted the above text string and when I hit enter I get "deployment operation progress....." it sits there and does nothing after that. How long should I have to wait? When I ran this in Ele. CMD IO let it run for over an hour and it never changed from the original "Deployment progress...." In the PowerShell (admin) I let it run for 15 minutes and nothing.
I also went into Regedit and tried this fix. It didn't do anything either

Click Edit > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it UseExperienceDouble-click the newly created item and set the value to 0Click OK, close the Registry Editor and then restart your computer.

Start Menu And App Store Doesn't Work
Aug 29, 2015Few days ago I updated to windows 10 from windows 7 pro. My system was working fine for first few days. One morning I found that the system stop working suddenly. When I click on start menu, it forces me log out. If click on app store, it shows 'critical error' message. I read some online threads and administered few commands prompt as well but problem remained the same. I am using norton internet security. I am not sure if it is related to this problem. However I found someone threads about avast antivirus relating to this issue.

Feb 10, 2016This is pretty straightforward: I cannot access the settings for the start menu. When I do a right click on the task bar and then click on "properties", I should have a "Start menu" tab in the window. The problem is : I don't have that tab.
Also, I don't have the possibility to pin apps to the start menu, this is a bit annoying.

Jan 15, 2016I'm not getting any error messages on boot up, but the start menu doesn't work and my task bar contains only the start menu, cortana, task view and an icon for no new messages. No clock, none of my programs or even edge. If I hadn't put some of my programs from the taskbar in a folder on the desktop, I'd have a hard time getting to them.
I've rebooted 4 or 5 times since this started on Wednesday and tried the critical error fix of holding down the F8 while rebooting and nothing has worked. I've been running win10 since August and have had the critical error message a few times, but have always been able to clear it before.

Jan 27, 2016I have Windows 10. I recently had a problem with my Nvidia drivers, but could install them after all. But now I can see at startup that my graphics card is working, but after startup it stops working and windows switches to the graphics card integrated into the motherboard. After startup when I login, I can't see my profile picture, after logging in, my background where used to be a nice wallpaper is black. When I click on the start button nothing happens. When I try to search for something, it says 'These results may be incomplete'. If I try to open the windows settings app nothing happens. I also can't open Google Chrome.
I've found out that when I start up the pc, first the fan on my graphics card doesn't work, then does for 15 seconds and then stops working again.

Desktop Changed / Floating Start Menu And No Settings
Sep 1, 2015I"m not sure what I did, but my desktop has changed. I tried to attach a screenshot, but don't think I did it correctly.
Here's what it looks like when I touch the start button.
-My start menu items are floating sort of to the right, in the position they normall are.
-However, this is where it gets wierd.
-Veritically, on the left
1. Start button
2. a button which brings up All Programs
3. Power button

4. All the way at the top, a button which when clicked shows most used apps.
Start Menu / Settings And Notification Area Won't Open
Dec 29, 2015When I click on the start button, nothing happens.It highlights when I hover over it, but doesn't react to being clicked.The same is true for the notification area.I can right click on the start button and it provides the normal options.Again the same is true of the notification button.
I have the settings app pinned to the taskbar, but the icon is not visible.I know that it is still recognised as being there, as it highlights when I hover over it, and it holds its place like any visible icon would.Right clicking it does nothing.At first, the start menu was the only thing not responding. The notification panel was working, as I remember changing to 'tablet mode' to try to resolve it.I restarted the computer, but that was when I discovered that notification panel was no longer working. I don't know the state of the settings icon before I restarted.I have also restarted into safe mode, but the problem still occurs.I have not downloaded any new software since it started occurring.I have checked the task manager and there appears to be no change in performance.
No Metro Apps - Start Menu / Search / Settings
Jul 29, 2015Ive updated my 8.1 today and now my start menu and indeed any metro apps wont start (ironic).If I create a new user their start menu is ok. I'm trying to revert back to my 8.1 installation but I cant because I cannot get to the revert option as it lives in the metro settings page NOT the standard control panel (why oh why are there two places with differing options, though in this case if it was all metro I couldnt access anything).
I cant revert using the new user as then it tells me I cant revert because I have added a user since upgrading? I cant start anything metro..I cant start anything from the right click start menu..I cant right click in file explorer (which I have to start via win-r) so its hard to get anything running as administrator..its a total fail of an upgrade for me.

Today during restart I got message that app "Elera" (or something like that) was preventing restart. After restarting I couldn't find this app in the start menu or in Control Panel Progs and Features! I did find a McAfee app in the Start Menu, but it was not in Control Panel list.
Start Menu Downloads Icon Doesn't Work After Location Change
Aug 4, 2015My Windows 10 is in Turkish so some folder descriptions my differ from the English one! I'm using a folder in D (Windows 10 installed on C) named as Downloads to secure my downloaded files incase of a format or etc and changed the location of the Windows Downloads folder by simply right clicking the folder and choosing the Properties > Location in C:User[my username]
But in the start menu (which i enabled the view of Downloads folder from Control Panel>Personalizations>Start>Choose which folders ll be shown>Downloads "ON") when i click on Downloads it says "This shorcut doesnt work............... Do you want to delete the shortcut?"
How can i correct this error?
Settings - Start Menu - Store And Tray Icons Are Not Working
Aug 12, 2015I've recently created a thread stating that Start Menu, Settings and everything on taskbar were not working (such as volume control and wi-fi networks). I reinstalled Windows (clean install) and it was good again until today, when it started again.
I tried to open Settings via "ms-settings:" via Run, but it says that "limit time was reached" (It's a rough translation, as Windows language in my notebook is not in English). If I press Windows key + P (ms-settings:display), it won't open and I get a message that "this file has not an associated program to it to perform this task". Install a program, or in case there's one already installed, create an association in Defaul Programs control panel." Basically, this a list of what is not opening anymore:
Start Menu, Settings (and all options within it), Windows tray icons (power options, wi-fi networks etc.).
I've already rebooted Windows but I didn't fix anything. I don't know man, this is the second time this issue arises after a clean install. Windows 10 is buggy as hell, what's up with Settings and Start menu not opening anymore? Is Windows 10 still in beta? Seriously, did MS test Windows 10 at all? It doesn't look so. If this keeps happening I'll have to return to Windows 8.1 which was working fine
