Dec 7, 2015I went to see my daughter and after she resumed her computer from hibernate (it had been off for about 2 days) a message popped up saying its ip address had been detected in use by another computer.
I suspect it was my cell phone that when in range asked for an ip address and the router, thinking the hibernated laptop wasn't using that ip address any longer gave it to my cell phone. Then after her system resumed from hibernate, it continued to use the ip address it had when it hibernated.
Does windows renew its dhcp ip lease on resume? Can it tell if the lease expired?

Aug 5, 2015I upgraded from Windows 7 "Starter Edition" (32-bit) on an ASUS Eee PC 1005PE (2GB RAM) to Windows 10 32-bit. This mostly seemed to work, however I can no longer resume from either sleep or hibernate. In either case, I get a blank screen. The other problem I notice is that the task bar separator (with a scroll bar type widget) between the active tasks and the notification icons seems to disappear and the active task icons seem to get mistakenly hidden from view. This is a minor annoyance and something I can live with, simply by switching periodically to the "Task View". But I would really like resolving the wakeup from sleep problem. So far I have tried updating the video adapter driver (which was already "up to date"), and I checked that I have the latest BIOS firmware.

Jan 15, 2016I did a fresh install on a SSD not to long ago. The computer is running very smoothly for the most part. However, sometimes when I open the lid to my laptop, it is temporarily unresponsive for a minute or so when resuming from sleep mode. It's pretty annoying. I think it has something to do with my USB settings because it only seems to do it when something is plugged in there. For example, thumb drive, external hard drive.
I tried playing with the settings in power settings. I have turn off hard disk set to never. USB selective suspend set to disabled.
Computer Too Slow To Enter Hibernate
Aug 23, 2015My computer is too slow to enter hibernate in Windows 10, it works fine in Win 8.1.
When my PC enter hibernate, the screen turns black quickly, but I see that PC writing to the hiberfil.sys take 2-3 minutes, it's too long, in 8.1 it just takes a few seconds.
EDIT: Tried to disable and enable hibernate, and increase size of hiberfil.sys, and it seem to be faster, about 1 min, but it is still slow compared to 8.1.

Aug 18, 2015I use desktop PC x64 based amd motherboard.Upgraded from windows 7 -takes longer than usual but sucessfully.My boy was happy because nothing changed in programs and games he use to play.All fine few days than once in the morning found a massage on start up "Resume from hibernation" I was waiting for resume for a while than hour than day and nothin happen.
Next day have to do some tries to fix.Looks on forums for similar problems...someone mantioned about ram slots to clean from dust and i tried that but still the same.In opened PC i tried ti figure out what else could be if everything in hardware is just fine.Than look for graphic card -pull it out and again in.And still nothing happened.Than found some older graphic card with lower values and restarted.On restart it appears on blank screen that graphic card is beiing updated and than bingo! windows continue to install updates and after several restarts it was all done.Got it back and problem solved.
Tried to disable automatic updates on settings but read about that windows 10 does not have option to disable that,rather only ask user to automatically or not to install updates.I do that what i could.Still that not convince me to keep win10 rather to roll out to previous version-but my boy was yelling on me to not to lose all stages in games and OK.
nEXT morning same.resume from hibernation.ok i said now i know what to do-removed graphic and put older one.And this time there were no update for graphic just continue to resume from hibernation Now i removed that older one with better one from my other pc with higher value graphic card--and after restart there were also no updates in bios and continue to "resume from hibernation" than i tried something else.Assuming that is windows placed on hard disc -remove that hard disc and plug it new one.
That for god sake it still resuming in light blue screen from hibernation.I mean which part remember that process if not hard disc. To not talk about that dvd disc rom is disabled and bios is disabled and only keys works on keyboard is ctrl+alt +del to restart.And that was the time was my pc was virtually died allthough each peace of hardware is 100% healthy.Last thing i remove all pieces from its slots and motherboard too.Leave it through the night and again in the morning plug it all.And again technically works fine but message still resuming from hibernate.

Oct 22, 2015So i just upgraded from Windows 7 to Win10 a week ago and everything went smooth as silk. I will said this is the first time i can remember doing an in place upgrade, I always format and do a clean install about once a year but ive been busy so i took the lazy route.
Issue is i have my power settings set to None and my power options set to turn the monitors off after 10 minutes. I have it set to Never sleep. After the 10 minutes passes the monitors power off as expected but when i move the mouse or hit keys on my keyboard it takes at least 10-15 seconds to initiate the monitor power on. This was 1-2 seconds in Windows 7. Its pretty minor but its irritating as hell.
Blue Screen At Boot Up - Resume From Hibernation
Oct 21, 2015I have been using Win10 since July. It has been working fine. Just recently I noticed a blue screen at boot up stating, "resume from hibernation". I have never used hibernation in my life. Sleep mode, yes. Hibernation, no. But I have an SSD and don't use sleep anymore. I do a full shutdown every time. I noticed the same issue on my Dad's Win10 computer.
The reason I am asking is I want to boot from a USB flash drive, but "resume from hibernation" will not allow that.

Aug 7, 2015If I use the Window 10 Upgrade System Tray Icon to do the download then it will auto-resume with no data loss if the internet connection fails. If I try to download Win 10 Upgrade some other way then it does not have auto-resume and I'll lose the data and have to start over.
I have 3G cellular internet here in India. It is unreliable and slow and often drops out. So auto-resume is an absolute necessity if I want to successfully upgrade to Win10.

Aug 5, 2015My plan is soon after I get the Win 8.1 laptop to download and install Win10. Here 3G cellular internet is slow and unreliable. I'm scared that if I try to download Win10 it will fail and I'll have to start the download from the beginning.
Someone told me that the Win10 download includes the ability to auto-resume so that if a download fails it can re-start from where it left off once the internet comes back. Is that true? I need to get confirmation on this before I get my new Win8.1 laptop.

Performance :: Slow Boot Time On SSD And Slow Desktop Icons Loading
Aug 6, 2015I'm using an Intel SSD 240GB 520 series. Always loading very fast, i.e., about 8 seconds from cold boot.
Since windows 10 is installed, boot time is about 20 seconds and desktop icons take some time to refresh and load their images.
Regarding the boot time: I've narrowed it down the an unexplained read/write access on my external HDD eSATA which is used for backups, though currently all backup process are stopped.
When I remove / turn off my external HDD, boot time is about 8 seconds. I can't figure out why all of a sudden it required this access to this HDD.
As for the slow icon refresh.. how to fix this.
PC Is Still Rebooting From Hibernate
Oct 1, 2015My computer, after the Windows 10 update, keeps rebotting after I hibernate. I can't remember if it does this for a regular shutdown. I tend to push the power button to prevent it from booting Windows.
I did go and disable "allow this device to wake" in Device Manager and I don't think I've been using any other peripherals.
One other thing (unrelated): I bought an Oduo bluetooth adaptor but I didn't build my PC with a CD drive. I haven't been able to find drivers and it's unlikely I'll be able to ask a friend to rip an ISO. Am I stuck with this CD I can't use? I don't see a website.
Performance :: Cannot Boot From Hibernate
Oct 13, 2015This is on a fresh Windows 10 install, using a 60 GB SSD and a pair of 1 TB HDD's. No folders were moved off the SSD (C:) outside of what Windows supports. (That is, I moved all user folders to the HDD that I was allowed to, and installed all programs to the HDD that I was able to.)I enabled hibernation via the Power Options > System Settings section in the control panel. The C: drive has 25 GB free space; well more than enough for hiberfil.sys to work normally. When hibernating, the system appears to behave normally and hibernate as it should.
When booting from a hibernated system, the computer POSTs normally and then brings up the Windows 10 logo and loading screen briefly before powering off very suddenly. I have to turn on the system again, and when I do, it boots normally but the hibernation state is lost.I've attempted disabling fast startup, which seems to have no effect. I've updated my video drivers to 15.9 beta, but I recall this being a problem on 15.7 as well. Full system specs are in my profile. This machine was running Windows 7 in the past before upgrading, but I had to run a fresh install of Windows 10 after encountering some problems. (So the system is currently on a fresh install.) Google is also currently unable to deliver any relevant results for this problem. Windows Update reports being up to date.
Edit: Additionally, this has never been a problem on Windows 7. The SSD is in decent condition too, and has not exhibited any problems.
Edit: This problem was happening on shutdown and restart as well. I disabled fast startup, which corrected the problem when shutting down. Here's a summary of the behavior now:
Shutdown, no fast startup: Able to start up normally without any unexpected behavior.
Shutdown, fast startup enabled: Computer immediately shuts off just after reaching the Windows boot screen. Has to be powered on again and then will boot normally.
Hibernate, regardless of fast startup setting: Same behavior as above.
Conclusion: From my understanding, fast startup acts as a subset of hibernate. Windows 10 is not able to properly hibernate the driver(s) and/or some other system state. I might have to go through the drivers via process of elimination to see what's causing the problem.
Edit: I found the problem!
So despite no BSOD ever appearing, I ran the BlueScreenView utility to view the system dumps. Got the driver IRL not less than or equal error, found that it was from sptd2.sys; the SPTD (a SCSI bypass driver) I installed with Daemon Tools. I found a separate uninstaller for the driver and got rid of it; it's not something I need anyway. (Lots of Google searching will find you these utilities and solutions.)Would be nice if it showed an error or BSOD in the first place! I was about to go whack-a-mole on the drivers, but I would've never found the root cause.
OS Instantly Reactivates After Hibernate
Oct 24, 2015I'm not entirely sure if it's hibernate or sleep. But it's the only option available in the shutdown menu, so i hope you know what i'm talking about. It's a desktop. And it does put the machine into sleep, but it instantly turns the machine back. How to troubleshoot this kind of issue. I've found plenty of people having problems not being able to initiate sleep, but my problem is getting it to stay in sleep.

Feb 23, 2016Hibernation is turned on, as shown by the presence of the hiberfil.sys operating system file; however, I do not see the word "hibernation" when I right-click on Start and select "Shut down or sign out."
Also, my APC UPS does not object to the absence of hibernate, which the APC software uses when the battery is getting low; the software notifies me if hibernation is not present. Hybrid Sleep is turned off in Power Options.
A few minutes later, I finally found, here, a tutorial that I understood,, and which worked.
Hibernate Will Not Automatically Work
Oct 3, 2015My HP Pavilion a1624n will not hibernate by itself after installing Windows 10. It will go to sleep with no problem. It used to work with no problems in Windows 7. I have checked the advanced power settings, reset them to normal and then back to Hibernate. At first I thought it was Outlook keeping it from hibernating. But even if I exit all programs (outlook, chrome, firefox, etc.) it just won't hibernate.
I created a shortcut in Windows 7 (C:WindowsSystem32rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0) on my desktop that will make it hibernate, but I miss being able to walk away and forget about it feature of hibernate.
I first did the upgrade Windows 10 and then a clean install of Windows 10.
PC Crashes Coming Out Of Hibernate
Aug 29, 2015I recently built a new PC, and it contains my old hard drive and a new 2TB hard drive. My old PC had Windows 7 on it. New mobo meant I needed to install Windows 8.I started to have issues right off the bat. Sometimes, it would boot to a black screen, and then would boot fine if I restarted. Windows 10 came out a few weeks later, and I upgraded to that. Now, it will try to boot Windows 8, then Windows 10 right after. It will still regularly boot to a black screen first. Additionally, coming out of hibernation often results in the blue screen CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error.
So far, I have not been able to find anything useful to fix the problem. I did some things in the command prompt, based on other threads' advice, such as running sfc.exe/scannow and dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. I got Error 87 after running the second one.

Jun 17, 2015I had problem dual booting win7 and win10. After many attempts I was able to dual boot.
But in the process, I deleted "system reserved" partition. So windows want start. I performed start up repair and it solved the problem. After that I reinstalled win7 ultimate which create "system reserved" partition again.
But the problem is hardware wan't shut down, hibernate or sleep. Windows shut down properly, but hardware remains active. I have to hard shut down it by pressing button.

Jan 25, 2016I have Windows 1 on my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series. A few days ago I took a quiz for one of my online classes and have to use Respondus Lock Down Browser, which I have not had any problems with in the past. However, after I X'ed out of my start bar at the bottom disappeared so I had to restart it. Well once I did and got the bar back when I go to click the power symbol to select shut down only a blank box shows up. I was hoping it'd go back to normal but it hasn't. So in order to select shut down I have to click Ctrl Alt Delete and click the power button option at the bottom left there in order to see the Shut Down, Sleep and Hibernate options.
