Selecting Areas And Menus Using Mousepad

Oct 2, 2015

Since installing Windows 10, I am having a lot of trouble clicking on areas and loading menu options using my mousepad. For example;

- When I go into the start menu, if I go to click on the Power option, it will not load the menu where I can choose to restart, shut down, etc. The menu will flash up for not even half a second and disappear.

- Another example: when signing up for an account on this website, I was prompted to select a photo from a group of photos for validity but when I clicked on a photo it would not acknowledge this. I was also unable to use the mousepad to click on the tick option to confirm I agree to the terms and conditions etc.The mousepad worked fine before I updated to Windows 10.

Drivers/Hardware :: Scrolling On Mousepad Doesn't Work With Update

Jul 30, 2015

I updated to Windows 10 this morning, and after doing so realized that my side scrolling on my mouse pad (I'm on a laptop) doesn't work anymore. Googled, found out it was a driver issue, and went to download the correct driver.

However, acer aspire drivers don't have the touchpad driver updated for Windows 10 yet. Do I have to wait until the driver comes out to fix this issue? If so, how long that could take? (They have the important drivers updated already, those for bluetooth and wifi)

Selecting Which Notification Icons Are Displayed

In Windows 7 we had the option of selecting which icons were permanently or only displayed when they had a notification in the taskbar. I haven't been able to find where the option is to change the settings in Windows 10, is there one?

Selecting A File By Starting To Type Its Name?

Oct 30, 2015

In Windows 7, and before, in Explorer, I could start to type a name of a file that I wanted and Explorer would jump down to that file, but under Windows 10, it automatically starts doing a search of the folder. As such, I am forced to scroll down and find the file manually. There has to be a way to disable the automatic search feature and let it run like before.

File Explorer Crash When Selecting Files

Feb 10, 2016

I have encountered this problem (in thread line) for the past 3-5 days and I have come no closer to any solution during that period of time.Basically, as soon as I left click or right click on a file in Windows Explorer it will crash. My Windows icon in the bottom left has also stopped working and I cannot ask Cortana anything (not that I did anyway...).

None of the advanced boot options work either (system restore, clean install etc...).

Freezes Upon Selecting Print / Ctrl P In Any Program

Aug 25, 2015

Ever since i upgraded to windows 10 pro, ive been unable to print because whenever i press ctrl-p, in any program like word, excel, pdf viewer, anything the print dialog doesnt show up, instead the cursor changes to the busy sign and it just freezes there. i have to manually close the app via task manager. However, I've noticed on one occasion that if i wait really really long ( > 15 min) the print dialog eventually pops up. ctrl p works in chrome, but when it loads the default print dialog the same problem repeats.

Start Menu Search And Selecting Photos

Oct 11, 2015

I have two problems that may be connected.

My first problem is with searching on the start menu. On one computer i can click the Start Button and just start typing 'notepad', i net to 'note' and just press enter, this opens up Notepad. On my faulty computer though, i can type 'notepad' but nothing ever comes up. I just get the dots at the top moving endlessly. See the picture 'Start Menu', attached to this post.

My second problem is when I'm using the 'Photos' app. I go to select multiple photos and videos, then press copy, then i go to where i want to paste the files to (might be on hard drive, might be usb stick), but i just get the blue wait circle. Sometimes if I just select 10-15 photos, it will finally allow me to paste them, but if im selecting lots of photos AND video, the blue wait cirlce will never go (I have left it for two hours before).

I have run disk defrag, I have also deleted and rebuilt the search index by going into Indexing Options>Advanced>Rebuild.

Multiboot System - Does Another BIOS Boot When Selecting Non-default OS

Sep 14, 2015

Multiboot system with Windows 7 on 1st partition and Windows 10 on 2nd partition-same drive. Using the fancy blue Bootmanager Selection screen that comes with win10. Win 10 is the default OS. If I select windows 7 from the bootmanager selection screen the system does a complete bios reboot then goes directly into windows 7. Selecting windows 10 does not do this reboot, just starts win 10 as would be expected. Is this normal?? I have had Multiboot with Win 7 and XP and do not remember this happening.

Win7 partition is marked "Active" (first partition on drive) bootmgr file is on this drive I think
Win10 partition is marked "Inactive" (second partition on drive)

Tried turning off Fast Boot in Win 10 ....

Its annoying and time consuming to go through another complete bios boot up every time I select my Win 7 OS.

Customization :: Shift For Selecting Multiple Files Not Working?

Nov 28, 2015

Windows 10 has many little problems, her are some with "Shift"!

If I want to let's say select 10 Files in Windows File Manager and click on the first one, press Shift and click on the last one. (I used this method since windows 3.1)

10 files are now selected, if I do this in Windows 3.1 to 7. Windows 10 ignores Shift and the click selects the last file and no other file is highlighted any more, the highlight just jumps to file 10!

I even tried to switch on "Use check boxes to select items", rebooted and nothing had changed. Can not even get check boxes!

In your Forums Tutorials the is a section with File manger shortcuts which states:

Shift with any arrow key:"Select more than one item in a window or on the desktop or select text within a document"

Compro Videomate DVT4 Not Selecting Channels On Scan

It is a different story with Windows 10, it loads ok but when it comes to scanning for channels you can see them flash on the screen as the scan passes but they are not loaded. I have uninstalled the original program and driver and installed the latest available driver and program and still the same problem also I have tried the program in compatibility modes of XP Vista and Windows 7 with no result.

Windows Menus Don't Open

Aug 1, 2015

Not sure where to post this, but none of the menu options open. The New Notification panel on the bottom right hand side doesn't open, and neither does the start menu in the bottom left hand side.

I am on an acer aspire laptop, and the brightness setting doesn't adjust anymore either.

I'm playing with the other icons in the bottom left hand corner, and none of them open up or do anything. Wireless icon, sound icon, one drive icon, or the notification icon. Searching the web and windows/Cortana does not do anything either. It doesn't even allow me to type anything.

I have tried restarting (which had to be done through the windows key + x shortcut) and shutting down/waiting/starting up again and neither have worked.

Customization :: Context Menus Not The Same - 2 Computers

Nov 20, 2015

I have 2 different Windows 10 machines...

1. A clean install of Windows 10.
2. An upgrade from Windows 7.

The right-click context menus are very different on each. I have imported the same themes and tried to match as many of the tweaks on the 2 machines.

For starters I have disabled Segoe UI completely, and replaced it with Arial. Also, Font Smoothing and Cleartype are completely disabled.

For the clean 10 machine, I get clean white context menus, both on the desktop and taskbar... no blurring.

For the 10 machine upgraded from 7, I get a gray blurry context menu, and a dark gray one on the taskbar.

See the compare pick below. Click on it to view full size to see the true compare.

Customization :: Any Way To Change Fonts Of Menus

Sep 24, 2015

on previous releases of Windows you could select Fonts for Window titles, menus , toolbars etc.

On two of my monitors the current fonts just look HIDEOUS and there's no way to change them -- worked fine on Windows 7.

This is going to cause BIG problems for some people if we upgrade to W10. They are using laptops - then it's fine if not using an external monitor but when plugged into decent monitors via HDMI is when the problem starts. Applications are fine but the menus / titlebars etc are almost unreadable !!!!!

For instance -- no problem typing this post on to the Forum but looking at the http address or the menu line of the browser is HIDEOUS.

Using latest INTEL HD graphics drivers.

At least on XP --->W8 you could st the individual fonts for system items such as titlebars etc.

I'm running W10 x-64 pro build 10240 (RTM).

This is a BIG showstopper.

Note it's for the WINDOWS SYSTEM stuff I need to change the fonts for -- in things like Word you can change as desired in the APPLICATION area but not the Menu area etc.

For example -- File explorer list --hideously unreadable !!!! However uploading to png you can't see how bad it is !!! but it IS unreadable on the monitor.

Transparent Edges To Some Context Menus

Jul 30, 2015

So, Windows 10. So far so good. There's just one small problem.

For starters, the background colour to these tooltips doesn't change when I change the colour in the Personalisation menu. But that's more of a secondary issue.

The primary problem is that weird transparent edge around the tooltip. When I first installed, I had something similar around the start menu. A restart fixed that problem. Now I experience these transparent edges around those tooltips and also at the edge of the notifications sidebar.

I never used a transparency workaround when I was running Windows 8.1, and that's about the only thing I can think of.

Always Show Menus Appears To Be Broken

Aug 27, 2015

So, I upgraded to Windows 10 last month, but I've just noticed this minor but somewhat annoying issue with the File Explorer. It isn't immediately noticeable as the Ribbon largely supplanted it, but on certain Explorer windows such as in the legacy Control Panel, I end up with this:

Tried uninstalling my custom themes and other hacks to no avail, and now I'm at a loss at this. As what I've said before, this is a minor, non-crticial issue, but still it irks me for a bit.

All Menus Could Not Be Changed To English During Install

Mar 15, 2016

I installed a JP version of windows 10 but then bought an English version and installed that after finding all the menus could not be changed to English during the install. My question is does the English version overwrite the JP version or are files left on the SSD using up space? Also in the end I returned the English version cause I found you can add a language pack to the JP version. The problem with this is that if you get a blue screen the windows messages are in Japanese. So now unless I can change this I'm going to go back to an English version of windows 10.
