Create Error Message For Form Search Results Being Null
Sep 21, 2012
I have a form and when it's opened you get 3 different search questions to answer or leave blank. My question is.... If a search parameter is entered but no results are found to match it, how do I create an error message telling the requestor "No Data Found"?
I'm creating a DB that includes a form that "Customers" will fill out. The form (CustomerForm) has text boxs that must be completed. I'm trying to figure out how to make sure all text boxes are filled out. I have already created a Input Mask and selected Required in the "Customer" Table. There is also a Username text box I would like to have validated that is is not already being used and two password text boxes I would like to have validate against one another to ensure it was created correctly. Once all text boxes are properly filled out I would like the Button to Save customer data, close CustomerForm and Open ShoppingCart. This is the code I have created:
Code: Option Compare Database Private Sub Log_In_Click() If IsNull(Me.CustomerFName) Then MsgBox "Please Enter First Name", vbInformation, "First Name Required" Me.CustomerLName.SetFocus
SELECT Payment_Mth, CDate(Payment_mth) AS Expr1 FROM Table1 WHERE (((Payment_Mth) Is Not Null And (Payment_Mth)<>"Does not apply" And (Payment_Mth)<>""));
I get a set of data along the following lines September 2007 01/09/2007 October 2007 01/10/2007 September 2007 01/09/2007 etc. which is what I want.
However, when I try to filter to show only a particular date, I get an error
SELECT Payment_Mth, CDate(Payment_mth) AS Expr1 FROM Table1 WHERE (((Payment_Mth) Is Not Null And (Payment_Mth)<>"Does not apply" And (NBReferral.Payment_Mth)<>"") AND ((CDate(Payment_mth))=#01/10/2007#));
This may be a really dumb question, but those are the easiest to answer right? ;)
Anyway, I have a parameter query where the user enters in certain criteria that it wants to look up. If there are no results that pertain to what a user enters in, is there a way that I can put in an error message that tells them that there are no results? Right now it just goes to a blank form/report/table (depending on what they are searching). I'd like something to pop up telling the user that there is no information cooresponding with what they've typed in.
My problem is this: Whenever I enter something into the form other than first choosing the date from the DateTimePicker's drop-down list, I get the notorious error message: Can't set value to NULL when CheckBox property = FALSE.
What I can conclude is that the DateTimePicker can seemingly not return a null value to the database. A possible solution was given at this site: http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/54/270422.aspx
I however, have no idea how to apply this to my form.
I have created a command button through the wizard that is basically: DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Well, it puts all this code in the event:
Private Sub NewVerification_Click() On Error GoTo Err_NewVerification_Click DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec InboundQuestions!Page1.SetFocus VerificationNo.SetFocus Exit_NewVerification_Click: Exit Sub Err_NewVerification_Click: MsgBox Err.Description Resume Exit_NewVerification_Click
End Sub
Well, my PK field is one users enter in manually (please don't ask why). What I need is something that checks to see if the number in that field is a duplicate key, so I can tell users via msgbox "Duplicate Number, try again". Right now, it's not that descriptive, it says "You can't go to the specified record". I guess all i need is an If statment, but I don't know the code that checks to see if [field1]'s value has already been used in my table. Any ideas?
I try to delete a record and i get this error message "The search key was not found in any record". The key of the table is an autonumber but for some reason in these two records i want to delete has value = 0 .
I'm getting a Run-time error 2295: Unknown Message Recepients.
I've got a DB of about 2000 clients. In testing I did a test DB with 50 random clients. Using any search criteria, it would grab those clients and open a new email with their email addresses no problem. However when I do this same thing with my complete DB of 2000 clients, I get this run time error. I'm pretty confused here, and anxious. It looks like the program is working, I just need it to run with all my clients. This is the last thing I must conquer to be finished with this project.
I have built a custom search form in a MS Access 2010 database so that users can find specific records to edit. After entering the search criteria and hitting a Search button, another form opens up that shows the search results. This second form includes a command button for generating a report of the search results.
Right now, the custom search form and the search results form are both working properly, but the search results report is showing every record in the database instead of just the search results. This is true whether I access the report via the command button in the form or the navigation pane. I'm not sure if I need to correct my VBA code or the report's properties.
I have a search form that uses a query to show results of a search, but everytime I press search everything comes up even though I have entered search parameters, even though my search requeries every time and the search used to work before I added new records today. Also when I press the query alone on the navigation pane it asks me for the parameters and then it actually works but it won't when I use my form.
i need to create a system that can search data using keyword.so i want to create search button that i will create it at form. currently i have 1 table and in that table i have 10 fields which are project_name, doc_ref_no, doc_title, volume, book_no, author, doc_status, box_barcode, filling_location, doc_availability.
i have create 2 forms, one form for user to add new record and another one is to search record. the user can search by enter project name, doc title, volume and box barcode. for project name and volume, i use combo box and for doc title and box barcode i'm using text box.
i want to create search function that can detect from user keyword and even user did not fill in all the form, the system still can search the record.
I have tried numerous things to try and create a pop up message or form to alert users of a timing conflict in a scheduling program. I am not real familiar with codes and am not sure how to handle this.
I used Jason Browne's web site to help me construct a query that will list a result of time conflicts (ie some project is scheduled to occur before another one is completed). What I need to have happen is the alert message or form opens when this conflict occurs but does nothing when the timing is ok.
I am not very familiar with code and am having a road block mentally. All help is appreciated!
When you use a combobox to search values in the form - and someone searches for a value that isn't there - the form just defaults to the first entry. Is there a way of putting a message box that says "This is a new patient" (or something like that). The NotInList event doesn't work - any ideas??
I'm trying to add a new functionality on my search form where the user can search for records that haven't been modified(based on the field DateModified) for certain amount of time.This is what I added in my search function but it's giving me "Invalid use of Null"
If Not IsNull(Me.txtInactiveTime) Then Dim LValue As Integer LValue = DateDiff("d", Me.DateModified, Date) Select Case Me.txtInactiveTime Case "> 1 month" strWhere = strWhere & "(LValue >= " 30 ") AND " Case "> 2 months" strWhere = strWhere & "(LValue >= " 60 ") AND " End Select End If
txtInactiveTime is a combo box where the user chooses the time during which the records haven't been modified.(i.e. 1 month, 2 months etc.)
I'm creating an advanced search form which is making use of Like queries and is Null. A working example is below:
Like "*" & [Forms]![Frm_Data_Mine]![Combo_Primary_SIC] & "*" Or Is Null
So this either returns matching values from the field, or basically ignores this if left blank. All good.
I have two other fields:
[Turnover_From] [Turnover_To]
Both are numeric values. What I would like to achieve is the same as the above, so I can search between a from and to value, or if left null, ignore them. I had a go with the below but it's clearly not right, and I can work how where and how I insert the Like statement which makes the others work.
Between [forms]![Frm_Data_Mine]![Turnover_From] And [forms]![Frm_Data_Mine]![Turnover_From] Or Is Null
I'm creating a simplified timecard entry form, and everything works perfect except one thing. When I start a new record and go to the subform and choose the day (monday - friday) it says "This property is read-only and cannot be set" but then it goes ahead and accepts the entry.
A little background, I am making the times as simplified entry (100 for 1pm, 800 for 8am, 500 for 5pm) no colons will be entered. Our hours of operation are roughly 7am until 630pm, with the occassional clock in before 6am and clock out up until 8pm or so. I have this error checking in place, it works ok, I add 1200 to the time if it is pm. Now if they are making a straight time adjustment, they enter it in as well.... for instance 8 for 8hrs holiday pay or paid time off. All this stuff works, that's not the problem.
I am thinking, maybe it might have something to do with having 4 or 5 fields set as the combined primary key on the table that holds the time/adjustment data. The reason I did the combined primary key is so they could enter in the same name, the same start date, even the same day, but the adjustment/time value has to be unique when it is compared with the start date, name, day, adjustment/time value. This table is the subform.
The weird thing is, that after the error, it lets the value stand and does not show the error again, as long as you are on this recordset. If I go back into that record and start a new entry below the others, I get the error again. While the error has no detrimental effects on the db, it is annoying.... and it still shows if I run the form off a macro with setwarnings to false.
I am including the database for review for those of you brave enough to try to understand my logic I'm sure it's something simple. I don't see anything in the properties for the form to turn off error messages like you can in data access pages, or maybe I just overlooked it. I have left one recordset in to show the functionality, it all works according to plan. This is just a rudementary database, I will fine tune it after I get past this hurdle.
Edit: I have Calendar control 11.0 for the start date, but this isn't the problem as it still did it when I had the actual field showing. That, and if you see the disparity between hours and minutes and paid time, it's because if they worked so many hours, 1/2 hour is automatically subtracted. Which is why there is a lunch adjustment field.... if they didn't take a lunch or if they took too long of a lunch.
creating a searching form and to show the results inside the form! It's like a Library type searching. u want to search for some type of monument or so and it shows the results, all the info, photos and that!
I am running Access 2013. I have created a search form with about 10 different categories from a single table. I will only show 5 fields for this example The form is called FrmSearch with
Description CarNum SerialNum Category Condition
In the query, I have the criteria, Like "*" & [Forms]![FrmSearch]![description] & "*" and have this same criteria for all fields with the proper text field entry. (CarNum, serialnum, category, etc)
The problem I have is that I have over 200 items listed in the Description column but only 2 entries in the CarNum column. When I run the search with nothing in the FrmSearch, it should show all data but it only shows the 2 CarNum. If I put something in the Description, only the two items that show CarNum. I tried to use Is Null and Is Not Null but still doesn't work. I take out the "Like" criteria from the CarNum and it works. So, it seems that it does not pull up all the records because the CarNum has empty fields.
I tried to get help elsewhere with this but it didn't quite work out, so I thought I'd pick a few other brains. So here's the problem from the beginning.
I made a table with three fields:
Field Name----Data Type Category------Text Item----------Text Cost----------Number
I set up a form with two combo boxes and two text boxes. I want to pick an Item from the combo box, and have the Cost appear in the corresponding text box. I set up the combo box to show each field when I click on the arrow.
I was given the following code to put in the After Update section under the Event tab for the combo box:
Private Sub Combo8_AfterUpdate() Me.Text2 = Me.Combo8.Column(2) End Sub
That works. I pick an item from the combo box, and its value appears in the text box next to it. Ultimately, I want to edit the value in the text box and have it update the table. I was given the following code for the text box:
Private Sub MyTextbox_AfterUpdate() Dim strSQL As String strSQL = "UPDATE MyTable " & _ "SET Myfield = " & Me.MyTextbox & _ " WHERE Id = " & Me.MyCombo CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError End Sub
So far, that hasn't worked. I believe I've made the correct substitutions:
Private Sub Text2_AfterUpdate() Dim strSQL As String strSQL = "UPDATE [Primary Table] " & _ "SET Cost = " & Me.Text2 & _ " WHERE Id = " & Me.Combo8 CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError End Sub
When I type a different value into the text box and hit enter, I get the following error:
Run-time error '3061': Too few parameters. Expected 2.
I was given a different line of code in the event that I'm "trying to pass text":
" WHERE Id = '" & Me.Combo8 & "'"
When I use that, the error is the same except it says:
I want to enter text boxes on a form that are linked to certain fields on a table and when search criteria is typed in show the results in a table on a subform.
Multi search wont return results: Obviously I have my table and search form. But have hit a problem that is probably simple to overcome, but for the life of me I cant see it.
The small peice of code I have used = forms]![searchF]![name1] I have also tried Like"*" & forms]![searchF]![name1] & "*" still not working. The qurey accompanying form (searchF) works to displaying searchF form unpopulated which I believe is correct. I should at this stage be able to fill out the one table heading (name1) where the query should return a result in the (searchf) form but it does not return.
The tables, forms and quries, have all been saved and closed and re opened many times
The form (searchF) propeties have been checked and double checked. I have even built a test table but the same things happen as my main table.
hello, i know i have seen example from here, nome of them seems to help. My is just a simple search. i have 4 tables: Artist Name, title, country and location
all i want is create a form that has a search. I want to type the artist name and it lists the country of the artist. How to i do this. I create the command button and text box but it just does not work.
This is the code i use on the command.
Quote: Private Sub ButtonSearchForRecords_Click() Dim StringQuery As String Dim StringWhere As String StringWhere = "" If Not (TextBoxSearchName = "") Then StringWhere = StringWhere & "AND [Name] = '" & TextBoxSearchName & "' " End If StringWhere = Right$(StringWhere, Abs(Len(StringWhere) - 4)) StringQuery = "SELECT [Name], [Title], [Country], [Location] " _ & "FROM [2-75TH SCAR] WHERE " & StringWhere _ & "ORDER BY [Name], [Country]" Me.ListBoxRecordsFoundInSearch = StringQuery Me.ListBoxRecordsFoundInSearch.Requery End Sub
I have designed a form to act as a menu to open other forms. I created the form and placed command button on the form. Using the Access Wizard, the following VBA was created by Access to open the next form:
Private Sub cmdCCDolClr_Click() On Error GoTo Err_cmdCCDolClr_Click
Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String
I have done this several times in the past with success. However, this time, I get the following error message when I click on the command button to open the second form.
The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: A problem occured while GCM (name of dB) was communicating with the OLE server or Active X Control. *The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [EVENT PROCEDURE]. *There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro.
I tested other forms that were designed to open secondary forms and they continue to act correctly. Is there an easy fix to this issue. There are 16 command buttons and all get this message. Do I have to delete the form and recreate it. A nusiance, but not difficult.
Looking forward to hearing from you experts out there. Thanks, Alan __________________ Alan Sidman
when i want to open the database in an access database i have the following error. you have as the event property setting the expression entered when open.This expression has caused an error amppu (database name) can not find the form that is referred to
I have a form designed to execute a query with a prompt for a particular record. When the record being searched for is not there the form become blank with nothing on it. I would like to return a message that indicates that the record was not found and give he user an option of reexecuting the query of exiting the form.
