Modules & VBA :: Splitting A String

Oct 5, 2013

I have made a system for managing service calls and fieldworks.Part of this is checking the boards we install/service are working correctly. When the engineer calls in, we check the board - enter serial number, via ODBC talks to main server DB and pulls back what is listed below, along with ID and date/time which is all displayed in a list box.

9853911264,W-AMR,3,2:320:0:52,MAIN STORE,3.57,0,18,001.004.041,0,0*75

This works fine. In the string above are certain bits of information that need to be checked to ensure they are accurate and the board has been programmed correctly. What I want to do it, is when the user single clicks on the list box, it parses out the various sections of the above string and enters them into some text fields on the form. With some code these can then be checked to see if they are correct or not and alert the user if they are or not.

The checking part I can do, the part I am struggling with is parsing out the correct parts from the string. The parts will be the same parts required each time, and the string parts wont vary, just not sure how to go about it.

Best Way Of Splitting String Of 110 Chrs In To 110 Fields?

Nov 16, 2007

I have a txt file that I'd like to import, which contains answers to a test. The number of questions on the test varies year to year, but this year there are 110 (split in to two sections).

I'd like to import the file, so each answer is a field, and then score the answers against a 'correct' answer lookup table.

What's the best way of approaching this? I first thought of using vba to read the text file, split the text, and then use an SQL command to insert to to my table. This seems tedious (there are around 6500 respondents).

Anything else I could do instead?

Thanks,
Antro.

Splitting String Using Instr And Retrieving Part Information

Apr 26, 2006

I know there are many posts on this but still cannot find what I want ....

I have a string ....

... <surname>bloggs</surname> <fornames>Jane</fornames> etc.etc.
... <surname>williams</surname> <forenames>Jo</fornames> etc.etc.

In a query I know how to:

Find the Start and End Postions as follows:

StartSurnamePos: InStr([string],"<surname>") returns 19
EndSurnamePos: InStr([string],"</surname>") returns 34

I also know that by adding 8 to StartSurnamePos I can get Bloggs but how do I stop it there.

Using left, Right or Mid how do I pull out just

bloggs Jane
Williams Jo in seperate fields?

Thanks in advanced.

Splitting Text Values From A String Into Separate Field

Jan 25, 2005

I have a table field which long ago was merged from several other fields. When the data was merged into the field it was delimited by "1." then "2." up to "5."
Example: MergedField = "1.Animal 2.Large 3.African 4.Grey 5.Long Nose"

I now want to split it appart in a query where "1.Animal" goes into expression1, "2.Large" goes into expression2, etc.

I need to base the text on where the one number begins and grab everything until the next number in the mergefield is detected.

Can someone show me the syntax for this.

Thanks!

Splitting Long String To Multiple Fixed-length Strings?

Sep 16, 2013

I have a table where I want to break longer strings into three-character strings.

So... for example the data item "Forest," I'd like to generate "FOR" "ORE" "RES" "EST" and write all four to another table, allowing for duplication. Alternately, we could make a list and just count the unique 3-character strings. The end goal here is to measure the frequency of 3-character strings across a set of data.

how to do this with an Access query?

How To Find Specific Database Object

May 3, 2005

I am wondering if there is a quick way to find a database object (table, query, form, report) other than having to scroll through them in the database window.

E.g. I have many many queries and when I need to find one to make changes to it, it often takes me a while to find it when scrolling thru the queries in the database window.

Has anyone ever programmed anything whereby you can type in the object type and name and then it will be highlighted in the database window?

This would be a great time saver.

Thanks,
BJS

"ABCD|123|R"

The string needs to be split into its three parts, the pipe symbol being the separator. Then the middle numeric string must be converted back to a long.

I know i could do a loop which identifies each character in turn, but my question is:

Is there a VBA function that can pick out the position in the string of the "|" characters, so i dont need a loop ?

Modules & VBA :: How To Find If Field Contains Number In The String

Oct 7, 2014

I am looking to find if a field contains a number and then build a case statement depending on which number is found. The field will contain data just like this:

Quote:

Repaired frequency response and grounding issues. Replaced 2 Hybrids, capacitors, and connectors. Tested MER/BER and operation to specs.

Here is my code that did not work:

Code:
If Me.txt_work_comm1 Like "*Hybrid" Then
'Sets up auto priced based on number of hybrids entered
'1 hybrid
If Me.txt_work_comm1 Like "*1" Then
strCriteria = "repair_item = 'Charter RF Amplifier Repair + 1 Hybrid' AND profile_types = 'Alpha'"

[Code]....

To Summarize:
1. I need to find if the word "Hybrid" or "Hybrids" is in the field
2. Then I need to know how many to determine a price

Modules & VBA :: Define And Setup Array - Find Respective Numbers For A Text String

Apr 21, 2015

I need to find the respective numbers for a textstring when for

abcdefghijkl stand the numbers
79 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 91 92

The textstring to "decode" is for example is 'adgjk'

The result (79 83 86 89 91) should be added into a table by Looping.

rs.Addnew
rs("Letter")= myarray??
rs("corNumber")= myarray?
rs.update
rs.movenext

Something like this.

But I cannot define and Setup the Array, which should be the best way for doing this.

The Array does not change its Content nor its Dimension.

Both, letters and numbers are strings.

Modules & VBA :: Unable To Search A String Within Subform To Find Information Stored On Main Form

Dec 2, 2013

I'm trying to search a for string within a subform to find information stored on the mainform to which the particular subform belongs.

The problem is that the subform is generated from a query which uses a number from the main form to generate.

So the subform record is only generated when the correct mainform record associated with it is loaded.

Now to solve my problem I've made a new query that brings up ALL the results that could be generated by the main form and from that I can search to find my search term I'm after and read off the ID number to tie it back to the mainform.

But all of this is done manually, I want a way to do all this using VBA in a way that the user can't edit any records as they are doing it.

Object Library Not Registered/ActiveX Component Can't Create Object

Jun 9, 2005

Hello

I am using Access 2003(11.6355.6360) SPI

When I attempt to create a new DB - by performing Blank Database I immediately get a message 'Object Library not registered'.

If I 'OK' that box and try to create a table, I can do so - create Table in design view.

When I then try to Import external data - an excel file I get the message 'ActiveX component Can't create object'.

I have looked ob various sites for help and forum information regarding these errors but have found nothing conclusive, with specidfic regard to Access 2003.

The version has been loaded on my machine about 1 year as part pf Office Professional but this is the first time I have attempted to run Access itself.

Does any forum member have any ideas as to how this problem could be resolved.

Thank You

Rgds

Forms :: Object Doesn't Contain Automation Object Table Name

Jan 5, 2015

I am currently building a database for the company I work for that is fairly similar to the Northwind Database; however it is made from scratch so hopefully some of the common problems with that database won't find their way into mine.My problem is that when I go to my Orders form, I pick a customer from the main form, which creates a record on the Orders table. When I then go to the subform to choose a product/line item, I get the error in my title ("The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'OrdersT.") as soon as a product is chosen from the drop down list.

Forms :: Subform - Object Doesn't Contain Automation Object

Jul 17, 2013

The error is:

The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'tblIndividual.' '

Then it also gives me the same one on another table.

I think it has something to do with the link master/child fields. I've tried all kinds of relationships with the three tables and can't figure it out.

I've tried uploading the database here but it won't. It's on my Sky Drive.

The Object Doesn't Contain Automation Object X

Dec 27, 2006

I'm getting an error message (informational only):

The object doesn't contain the automation object 'ClientID.'You tried to run a visual basic procedure to set a property or method for an object. However, the component doesn't make the property or method available for Automation operations.

Check the components documentation for information on the properties and methods it makes available for automation operations.
This happens when I start entering data in the field "productname" of a subform.

So I'm assuming something in the form or in the code of the form is referring to ClientID. but I've checked it, and there is nothing referring to it anymore. Well, at least as far as I'm aware of.

This afternoon access crashed without any error, it just closed. Upon reopening the DB again, all my work of the past one and a half week was gone. Normally I always backup the data, but these past days I didn't due to christmas and still working a lot too. So I forgot.

I did some redesigning in the process this evening, deleting and adding some fields and code.

I can't get rid of this error. Can anyone help? Or point me in the right direction?

Also the DB is 3.5MB in size. While it is completely empty. And I can't imagine that some empty tables, queries, forms and a bit of code can be so much. But that's for a later time to worry about I guess, unless one of you says: this and that, maybe that works... Otherwise, I would really be very glad already if the error disappears....

Splitting DB

Nov 3, 2005

Getting ready to split a DB. No security really needed... Only the ability for multiple users needed. From what I have read here so far it seems best to use a MDE file on the front end and MDB file on the back end. One question is still not answered... I guess I will find out when I load the front ends on different stations.. BUT... I would like to know what to expect. I am assuming that each computer that I load the front end on I will have to go through and link the backend. Correct? I read a MS Knowledge base article about a form to do this... Is this only possible if you use the "developers edition" ??? Whats the common method for this task?
Thanks
Curtis
