The database I'm working on stores product records. To support the user narrow down which product they want to use, the navigation form has a listbox that looks to several combox values to filter the records it displays. As the user selects values for additional comboxes, the list of products from the listbox is refined. What I would like to do is set the comboxes up so that they also have to check the listbox to determine which records they should display.
For example:
Comboxes: Customer, Species
Starting out the listbox shows all products. The user wants to find a particular product that is sold to "Harly Quinn's Crab Imporium". They select "Harly Quinn's Crab Imporium" from the customer combobox. The listbox updates to show only products sold to Harly Quinn. The database currently has this functionality. What I want to add comes next:
The user determines that there are still too many records being displayed in the listbox, so he/she attempts to refine the search further by selecting a species from the species combobox. Currently all species from the species table are selectable from the species combobx, meaning that if the user selects a species that isn't sold to Harly Quinn, that the listbox will show no records. What I would like the combobox to do is refer first to the listbox and determine which species are still viable options based on the records available from the listbox.
Firstly, is it possible to hide unchecked values in a listbox? I have a user with several roles and I want to only show the ticked roles in the listbox.
Secondly, can you create a hyperlink on listbox values? i.e, if I click on "Manager" in the roles listbox, it follows that to another form and opens the record about managers?
I have 2 combo boxes, one Categories and Products. However I have follows a tutorial and when I select the Categories, the products do not show even though the tutorial says it does. I have attached a copy of the DB.
I am designing a form based on specific criteria from a table. I have one table "country/region" showing: Country, Region, and then primary numeric ID. I have another table called "contacts" with more info. What I am looking to do is create two combo boxes on the form, one for country and the other for region which will pull from the "country/region" table and feed into the "contacts" table". When the user writes in the specific country, the corresponding region in the combo box next to it should update automatically.
So I have a multi-select listbox with tick boxes and values in on my form. Is it possible to make so only the checked values are showing up and then not display the tick box?
I know I can use a combo box to display several values, but using a listbox like this would be easier on the eye.
Is it possible to use code to get a text box to show the selected items in the list box?
I use Access 2003. I am trying to populate a list box with the names of files found in specific folder in my computer. The problem is that if the file name has a comma (,) in it, so the name is being separated in two parts - first what is before a comma and second what is after. I need them exactly as they appear in directory in order to open the files from this list box.
I'm trying to make a database to track inventory or several items. Basically, I have four tables:
1) RawMaterialList - includes a list of all raw materials. 2) PartList - includes a list of all finished product using said raw materials. 3) RawMaterialRecieving - contains details from each packing slip of incoming raw materials. 4) ShipmentRecord - contains details of daily shipments.
Each of these tables is fed by a form of the same name. I should note at this point that I basically taught myself how to use Access and I imagine I'm in the dark about quite a few things it can do. I've made several databases over the last few years, but I'm stumped at this point.
Here's my problem. In the form RawMaterialReceiving, I have several fields aside from basic information:
1) Item - a list of of raw materials from table RawMaterialList 2) Description - also dependent on info entered into table RawMaterialList 3) Quantity
My problem is I want to add up the quantities of each raw material and I'm not sure how to go about that. Lets say on May 13, I received 15pcs of Part A and 20pcs of Part B. I enter this information as Item1 and Item2 respectively. On May 14, I received 30pcs of Part B. I enter this information under Item1. Now I want to add up all of Part B (50 pcs). But Part B has one value listed in the field Quantity1 and one value listed in the field Quantity2.
I have been looking for days on the net for my listbox problem. It is there and found a few, even on this forum. but when i try the solutions mentioned i am in a total loss and do not know what to change to make it work for me.
I have a form named A/B Retriever with a record source qry input AB Bins Than i have a unbound combobox with row source qry input AB Bins. This populates 8 textboxes with B through I carton boxes, stored in a bin. The user selects a Bin location from the combobox and can put a "x" in a textbox to illustrate that the box is empty. This works perfect.
Underneath the input bin and box part i have 8 listboxes that shows a query that has counted the empty boxes with the corresponding bin location. this also works. but the question from users where, If i click on a, lets say empty B-box at Bin location 12A20, they want the combobox automatically focus on the combobox with the corresponding Bin location. This is a quick way for them to delete a empty box (remove the X).
I have a multi-select listbox (called PotentialItems) which behaves perfectly unless one of the fields has a null value in it, in which case I get an error 13, "Type mismatch" in the following code. It is valid business-wise for column 9 to be null.

I have a form in which you can select a year from a combo box in a subform. I want to create a query to be a subform which uses that combo box to select the year between 1/1/Year and 1/31/Year OR between 12/1/Year and 12/31/Year. The year combo box is in the sub form called YearSubForm and is called Yearcmb. I used Between #01-01-2010# And #01-31-2010# Or Between #12-01-2010# And #12-31-2010# in the query view as a criteria when I wanted 2010, but I want the year from the combo box.
Also, in the form I have a subform that is located on top of a text box. I was wondering how I can have the text box show over the subform. I tried 'send to front' but that did not work.

In the main form needs to select one customer, only the contacts 'de Vries' and 'Van der Linden' can be selected in the combo box of contact (in the main form) ..
I do not succeed despite several attempts with macros to achieve this.
I have several comboboxes (6) on my form.How to populate these comboboxes with values depending on selected value in previous combobox.
Example.Lets say that you select value "Audi" in combobox 1, then available values in combobox 2 should be "A4","A6","TT" etc. and if you selected "BMW" in combobox 1, then available values in combobox 2 should be "3-series", "5-series" etc...
I am currently trying to make a form which will generate a report for the users. Currently the form has 3 combo boxes where users select which fields they want displayed from the table in the report. They also have sorting options next to them (Asc or Desc). I am now trying to put in a multi select list box under each combo box to allow users to filter the report to their liking. Currently I am trying to pull distinct values from the specific field of the table and display them in the listbox for users to select.
I have tried using vba to set me.filter1.rowsource = SELECT DISTINCT me.combo1 FROM EVAP_Database, but this doesnt seem to work. I have also tried a few other codes and still no luck.
I have 2 combo boxes on a datasheet. combo 2 is depedent on comboxbox 1. But when i work on futhter and click other occurenses, the values change (because of the query looking at the first combobox)

Access 2003 Database for tracking job search/applications I have three tables: Job (includes employer, contact) and Contact (First name, Last name, employer), and Employer (Employer name)
Form.Job is the main data entry mechanism. On this form, I enter the job details. I select the employer from a combo-box that draws from the Employer table. I would like to select the contact from a combo-box that filters contacts and shows only those that match the Job.Employer selection.
:confused: 1. How can I make a bi-directional link so that a new entry in the employer combo-box creates a new entry in the employer table? At the moment, I get around this with a "New employer" button on Form.Job that just opens up the employer table, but there seems to be an updating issue - new names don't show up in the combo-box for a while
:confused: 2. How can I get the contact combo-box to show only contacts with an employer that matches the employer selected in the employer combo-box?
Note that I got this to work once by using a sub-form, but I don't really understand how (presumably Access defaults that did what I wanted), and I don't want to have to use a sub-form.

I have two combo boxes in my form. The first one has the option of selecting a or b. If the user selects a, the second combo box will have the options of c and d, if b is selected the options in the second one will be e and f. How can i do this?
I thought that my previous request on how to create a dependent combobox based on selections from two previous comboboxes, but the example provided only worked if the fields were all in the same table. Here is an explanation of my problem...I have 3 tables:

I have 3 comboboxes on a form: cboFoodType, cboColor, cboFoodName.I would like to filter the value lists in cboFoodName based on the selections from cboFoodType and cboColor.For example, if I select "fruit" from cboFoodType and "red" from cboColor, I want the value list available in cboFood Name to consist of "apple;raspberries;strawberries".Likewise, if I select "vegetable" from cboFoodType and "green" from cboColor, I want the value list available in cboFoodName to consist of "cabbage;green beans;lettuce;spinach".
I have dependent combo boxes which is working fine what i want is to select the value from the list and the text box should be filled in my case it is attachment field i want to fill up the value based on combo boxes selection.I have attached the database also.
In short, I have a form that has a combo box containing people type values. Then two text entry boxes, firstname, lastname. Then an add, update, and delete button...
When the person type is chosen from the cbo, and the names are filled out, and the 'add' button pressed a query sends the values back via sql insert, and a listbox next to these controls then lists the new person records. Great - No worries...
Then, when someone wants to update the record now shown in the listbox, on double click of the record in the listbox, vba repopulates the name text boxes from the listbox's columns values (easy), and then *magically* the person type combo box chooses amongst its values the value stored in the person type column from the listbox.
I can't get the combo box to be set to the value that I am grabbing from the listbox's column values.
Part of me wonders if I would have to program in a way to search among the combo boxes values and find out which one was selected from the listbox, find it's index value and then set the combo box to be that index/value record... but that seems like a hard way to do it... and I'm not exactly sure how?
I have a main form that filters data in a subform based on selections via combo box users make on the main form.
So I have the 'department' and 'manager's name'. If someone selects 'Human Resources' from 'department' combo box, then I only want to see the managers that are in the Human Resources departement when I drop down the combo box for 'manager's name'. Currently I'm seeing all the managers and a user can select a manager that is not in human resources and get no data returned. I prefer for him to get a list of those that are in that department only. The source of the combo box is a query.
I have a Listbox that I want to use to go to a record on a subform. I know that it cant be done with the wizard.
The records that I am looking at don't have an ID so I want to look at both a date field [TrainingDate] and a Time Field [TrainingTime]. I have set the querry up and the list gets populated with the correct information. And I have added the following code to the AfterUpdate Event
G'day. I've been browsing the forum trying to find a solution to a problem, without much luck, and am hoping that someone might be kind enough to help me more directly.
I'm a biologist and a newbie to access: with the distinction of being completely clueless about VBA. Nonetheless, I have been tasked with creating a database for storing data obtained from biological surveys of juvenile salmon and harvest/spawner surveys of adult salmon.
The bones of the db are in place and functional. The problem I have is streamlining the data entry process to minimise keystrokes/mouse clicks.
I have a subform for entering fish records with attributes such as 'species_name', 'fork_length', 'count', 'presence of tags, etc. The idea is that fish can be entered as individuals (count=1) or groups (count>1) with attribute data at the appropriate level (eg, fork lengths only entered for individuals. We typically measure the fork lengths of the first 20 individuals of each species and then tally the remainder).
One problem I face is that fish often occur in schools, and it becomes quite tiresome to click and select the same species_name combo box value for each record when entering multiple individuals of fish of the same species.
What I would like to do is set the default value for that combo box (on the fish subform) to match the value entered for the previous record.
I suspect that you could use the after update trigger to execute some code to change the default value each time something is entered manually into the combo box. Unfortunately, I know nothing about how to write the appropriate code.
so i'm trying to create a report that only displays certain fields per record based on another field in that record. To clarify: [Type] is a numeric field holding either 1, 2, or 3. I have a function that is instructed to display (ie, change from not visible to visible) a certain combination of fields depending on the number in [Type] when the form is opened. I assume I would have to go through all the records individually (do loop until), but i'm not sure if this works in a report.
is there any way to have different fields displayed for different records within the same report??
