General :: Database Opening With Out Of Memory Error

Nov 14, 2014

In the database that I use at work sometimes when we OPEN it we get an immediate error saying out of memory, therefore we close it and reopen and all is good.

This is a problem when the average user logs on as they don't close it, they just continue on and then start experiencing issues.

I thought that the memory was supposed to clear when you close the database.

We run the debugger and no errors are ever found, we also run the compact and repair.

This can happen 1 in 10 or maybe 20 times when we open the database.

General :: Memory Error When Printing Report

Dec 5, 2014

I am getting an error message when printing a 2 part report. It does not appear until I have already printed the first part and I am ready to print the second. I have 6 users and all seem to experience intermittently with the exception of 1 who it is constant. The message is as follows;

"There isn't enough memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again."I have tried deleting the registry "KEY_ CURRENT_ USER SoftwareMicrosoftVBA" with no avail and have installed all available updates from MS.

General :: Access 2013 / Error - Not Enough Memory To Update The Display

Dec 16, 2014

I am regularly getting the error "There is not enough free memory to update your display, close unneeded programs and try again"

Access 2013 on a windows 7 machine with 4 processors and 24GB total RAM.

Today I have 14 GB free memory (unbelievable! my first laptop had 136 MB total memory!) when I got this error (Access using 38MB) which makes me believe its not a system memory issue but to do with how much (or quickly) memory is allocated to Access.

General :: Cannot Open Database - Format USB Memory

Oct 20, 2012

I'm having problems with my database. It was on a USB memory stick and suddenly I got a message to format the entire USB memory. I managed to retrieve the files on the USB and loaded them onto anothe USB, but when I tried to open the database I got the message:

"Cannot open database ". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt."

However, when I tried it on another computer I managed to open the database but when I was closing it I got the same message again. The database is working OK, but how do I get rid of the message?

Error When Opening Database

Aug 8, 2006

Good afternoon,

When I'm trying to open a back end database which was previously created is MS Access 97 it gives me the following error;

Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.

I have tried running the "Compact/Repair Function of MS Access 97 and MS Access 2003 to no avail.

I have tried converting the back-end to Access 2003 as well but I still get the same error message. I can link to the database tables from an Access 2003 database fine with no error message!!

Has anyone got any suggestions before I have to take it offline and rebuild the back-end and then copy the data across from the old one?!!!

Run Time Error 7: Out Of Memory

Apr 11, 2007

Im building a new database using Access 2003 SP2 on windows XP SP2 with 1 GB RAM.

When i try to execute the following line of VBA code I get an "out of memory" error:

Form_Confirmation.txtDept = cboDept.Text

Before this line of code I don't query any data or open any DAO connections, Im only checking the entered values in various text boxes and combo boxes on a form. I have also tried rebooting my computer and it still gets stuck at the same line.

What i basically want to do is just move data entered into text boxes on a shipping order form i created and present that data on another form to confirm the entered data. The error occurs when i try to move data from one form to another. The database is still only 1MB with only 5 tables, each with only a few records in them just for testing.

Do i need to install a service pack or download something to fix this error?

Error When Opening Database - Cannot Access Data To Make Changes To Scripts

Feb 12, 2013

When I launch my Database file, it would normally run some scripts (I don't actually know what they do, the file is not used by me, only colleagues).

Instead i get this error:

The expression On Load you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.

When I click 'OK' another error appears:

The expression On Timer you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.

Once i click 'OK' on this error, another error sometimes occurs:

The expression MouseMove you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.

But strangely enough the third error doesn't occur every time i move the mouse.

After these errors have been closed, all i have is my 'form' with a loading bar. I cant access the actual database. Nor can i get into the Visual Basic to try and find the cause. This is happening to multiple clients of mine, and me personally.

Running Windows 7, Server 2008 (64bit), Windows 7 (64bit)
Running Access 2007 and Access 2010.

I have tried changing permissions on the file, this doesn't work.

Memory Error Message In Access 97

Mar 10, 2005

Hi...can you help?

I have a multi-user MS Access97 database application. It is causing one of the users (and I have only once had the error message myself) the following error message:

"There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again."

This error message occurs when the user is doing data entry via the forms and navigating between forms in the database. The form, on which the error occurs becomes oversized and does not display all the information. The user is forced to shut down the database, re-open it, and then it works fine....but eventually the error re-occurs.

I found Microsoft's article 236977, but it applies to working with Forms in Access 2000. This problem is happening in Access 97, and none of the causes listed in the article apply.

Has anyone every come across this....and do you know of a solution?

Thanks,
BJS

General :: Front End ACCDE Not Opening - Unrecognized Format Error

I have made a database, splitted it and then made the front end as accde. After that I copied both Front end & back end files in a shared folder. It is working fine as long as I am using it from my computer, but when I go to the other computer and try to open the front end, it gives the message of Unrecognized format error. This problem is only with the accde file, all other files are opening except this.

Error / There Isn't Enough Free Memory To Update The Display

Mar 13, 2010

My problem: There isn't enough free memory to update the display.

I looked all over the internet about this error but without any success.

Facts are:

1. I keep getting this error anytime I try to Print or Print Preview or export to PDF an Access Report (same error for printing Forms and maybe other objects).

2. I received this error when using Office 2007 with the same mdb and also after upgrading to Office 2010.

3. The same mdb on any other computer works perfectly. I can do Print, Print Preview or whatever I want. This seems to be related to this laptop I am using.

4. Resources are not a problem on this laptop: 3Gb RAM, Paging: 1Gb on sys drive C and 2Gb on D. The other machines have less.

General :: Getting Rid Of Password On Opening All Database

Jul 11, 2014

I was exploring using User-level permissions on databases so I, the admin, can have full permissions to edit/change etc. the database and certain users can only add/edit data. But I inadvertently have now set Access to ask me for a password for any db I open. Even if it's my own personal one. Can I set up Access to only ask for login info on certain db's, not all. I know that 2010 did away with User and group level permissions but was able to add it back through customizing the ribbon and adding this feature back to it.

Forms :: Opening A Report - Error 3211 / Database Engine Could Not Lock Table

Jul 25, 2013

I have a form that contains a subform. The subform is a datasheet which calls the results of a query of 4 tables (tbl_companies, tbl_deals, tbl_products, tbl_vl).

In the main form there is a button which opens a report with a historical record of dates of value changes of each product up to a chosen date. This chosen date is determined by inputting a date into a text box.

This report also sources (tbl_companies, tbl_deals, tbl_products, tbl_vl).

When I try to open the report, I get the run-time error "3211".

'The database engine could not lock the table "Tbl_companies" because its already in use by another person or process.'

I'm guessing that because the query for the subform is already calling the table, the query for the report can't call the table at the same time?

General :: Holding Down Shift Key While Opening Database

Normally when I hold down the shift key when opening an Access database it opens in development mode. When I do this on a certain database it does not. It still opens in program mode. If I hit F11 it goes into a sort of development mode but I do not get the ribbon bar at the top etc.

Has something been set on this database to stop it opening in development mode? Can I switch it off?

General :: Opening Access Database From Batch File Or VBS

Dec 20, 2012

Is there a way to open an Access Database from a batch file or VBS file wait for 20 seconds and then close the Access file. Preferably I would like the Access file to run in either invisible or minimized mode. I would like the Access Database to close again after the 20 seconds has elapsed.

(The reason for this is so that the Database can refresh itself from Sharepoint on another users machine so that the excel reports on his machine are up to date).

General :: Show Loading Message While Database Is Opening?

Oct 23, 2012

I have a split database with multiple users. Since I split the database, it runs slower than the unsplit version. I understand this happens. I would like to have a message pop up when the database is loading. It takes approx 2 mins to load. Users get impatient and start clicking. So, I wanted to have a message pop up to let them know it is opening.

I have the same problem with forms loading, I have 5 forms and each takes about 4 secs to load, so thought about a loading message there too.

General :: Taking User Input While Opening Database

Dec 7, 2012

In my database there are fields of type Date/Time, their default value is set to now(). But the problem is that those fields are automatically filled up by English system date. I want my own country's date format, without changing my system date format. So I decided, whenever database is opened it should ask for a date, so the user will give today's date and that date will be used automatically on those fields.

General :: Display Selected Form Using Drop Down On Opening Database

Jun 23, 2015

I have created a Db in MS Access 2010 and under Options > Current Database I have done the following:

- Used drop down to select a form I want to display on opening
- Unchecked display navigation pane
- Unchecked allow full menus

This works how I want it to, perfectly. I then send it to a client who also has MS Access 2010 and when they open the file the form I have told it to open doesn't open, the navigation bar is displayed (with the form I want to open highlighted) and the full menus show but are locked.

What's going on? Is it some security setting the client has that isn't letting the opening procedure execute properly?

General :: Error With Accde Database

Dec 23, 2013

I have a working database which runs fine in accdb mode. But when i compile it and run the accde file I get the error "The expression you entered has a function name that XXDB nameXX cant' find."The problem is that the autoexec macro cannot find the VBA public function that is called with runcode command.

The accde file is running in the same folder as the accdb. It is a split database, I am only working on the Front End..I have tried, amongst others:

- Creating a new vba module and copying all the functions across

- Renaming the target function

- I reckoned there was a corruption somewhere, so I created a blank database and imported all the form/code/etc across from the broken version, which imported fine. The accdb ran but the compiled version failed again

General :: Error When Splitting Access Database

Feb 15, 2013

I have created a db for a nonprofit counseling org. I had created the first half, mostly administrative tasks, called Phase1, and put the BE on a network drive and the FE on multiple users. Now in developing the clinical portion, Phase2, I linked to four of the tables in Phase1 BE file.

Now I tried to split Phase2 the same way as Phase1 and got an error "Subscript out of Range". I think because of already having some external links in it. I checked for the file and Access actually created the BE file for the new phase2, all of the tables are in it minus the four I was linking to. But, access didn't create a FE file. The original still has all of the objects, tables and forms etc. My question is; can I link to the tables in the new BE file even though those tables still exist in the original file?

General :: Database Startup Error On Only One Computer

"The key or key combination ^{Break} in FunctionKey_SubForm has invalid syntax or is not allowed"

The "FunctionKey_SubForm" is a macro in this database.

It only does it on my computer when I opens this specific database.

This database works fine (copied it elsewhere) on everyone elses computer and also when I use it one another computer, whether the database is on the server or on the C: drive.

Since it works fine on all other computers, it's a setting in Access which is throwing up the error (even if it is " invalid syntax or is not allowed"), not the database.

Database works fine after I click through it but it's irritating and I don't recall changing anything.
