I have 2 databases with the same structure, but different data.
I want to put all the data in 1 database.
The problem is that the most important table (clients)has an autonumeric id field, that is used to link the records to the fields of many other tables; so, I cannot delete or change that field without losing connections.
I have a database that is used for tracking changes to numerous courses. Part of this database create a unique tracking number for each course problem developed. Currently I have the form do a comparison using the highest most number to compare against the current number assigned and prevent the form from saving until the number is incremented and not a duplicate, it would be a lot easier if I could just have it increment plus 1. I have seen various answers but they all seem to depend on the alpha portion of the field being a set value, in my instance it is variable in length. The only part that is fixed is the last four characters to the right which are the numeric portion I would like to increment. For example the field can equal:
QACP-M-PIQ-6059 QACP-M-PREF-6002
how to extract just the numeric portion, increment it by one and save?
I want to check if data entered in a form field is existed

everything is ok but if the data is existed the database show the message and clear the field but i'm getting a Run-time error
'-2147352567(80020009)': the macro or function set to the beforeupdate or validationRule property for this field is preventing [ISF] from saving the data in the field
I guess the problem because the form is bounded to a table so he will save automatically
My solution is to unbound the fields and save the data via vba but is there any solution with a bounded form???
I have imported a large contacts table from an old database. The Name field has had all the names input as JOE BLOGGS etc. I can force the table to read joe bloggs etc using < in the format box in properties for this field. But I want the names to read in the Joe Bloggs format, first letter in each name being upper case. Is there an easy way of doing this.

On my form, there is a button that will auto-populate the subform.
If this button is clicked before the autonumber ID is established the code crashes. I have tried saving the record using...
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
...but this does not save the record. After executing this command I can even go into the table where this record is supposed to have been saved and it is not there.
There must be something I'm missing here. Any ideas?
I have a numeric field (long integer) in a table. I've set the format to fixed. No matter what I set the decimal places to, auto, 0 or 2, when I enter a value of 0.71, it displays as 1.00
In my form, I've also set the field property to fixed, but it displays the value as 1.
I have a text field having data i-e HO-1, HO,2, ACW-25 and so on. The field name is nBadge_num and is Unique. The data in this field is sorted automatically like 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3, 4, 5...because this is the text field.
The number on the form is automatically generated, when the user type HO- for example on field exit event. The last number will generate like HO-5.

My problem is when the number is generated it give HO-5 instead of HO-14, How can I sort the numeric part of the field ?
Here is what I am trying to do. I have a query with 2 fields. "Time In" & "Time Out". What I would like to happen is this. Whenever a character, let's say a "t", is entered into that field I would like the current time to populate that field. Right now we are actually typing in the time. I have the fields set up as DateTime fields currently.

If I enter a date into a field and the choice for another field is equal to a certain value. How can I get the date I entered to be automatically populated into another date field.
For example:
If I enter 11/10/2005 in a date field and I choose either "BN", "BA", or "BT" in a text field, I need that date of 11/10/2005 to be automatically populated in another date field on the same form.
I have the below function that works correctly. However, I would like the "Last_Nbr_Assigned" value to start at 0000 and increment by 1. So the very first number assigned would be 0001, then 0002, then 0003, and so on.
This number is automatically assigned so I haven't had luck with the validation properties. And if manually enter 0001 for the "Last_Nbr_Assigned", it will automatically cut off the 3 zeros, leaving me with 2 instead of the desired 0002.

How does one cause certain data to appear in another field based upon the data entered in another field.
For example: I enter in the field the word "Carrot" in a field called food and the word "Orange" appears in the field color. And then if I enter the word "Beans" in the field food then the word "Green" appears in the field color.
I am wanting to update data in one field which is being pulled in from another table based on an entry in another field in a form
Attached is the database. In the sales form I want to enter a customer ID which will then pull in the customer name from the customer table and put it in the Customer Field in the sales table.
I know I am duplicating the data by having customer name in both tables which is bad database design!
Trying to do the following: Having built a table of customers, I need to have an automatically generated ID number for each that IS IN ORDER - which rules out Autonumber and it's gapping tendencies. So, I've developed a new CustID field and set it to "Number", and now just need to figure out how to get it to pull the previous entry and add "1" to it. So it would look like this:
CUSTID NAME 1 Bob 2 Fran 3 Phil 4 Tom 5 (ready for next entry)
Any way to use a function I don't know about, or program some type of solution? Thank you
Guys, When I generate an excel sheet through vb.net code, I get a Numeric Field OVerflow when the values generated contain a date!
my database is ms access...
The problem is that each excel sheet generated has different columns, depending on what columns the user selects to view. for example: if the user chooses name, age and date, the date would appear on the 3rd column, if the user chooses name, nationality, age, family name, date, then the date would appear on the 5th column, etc.....
I have a query that prompts with a parameter box for the field Contributor_ID. Contributor_ID is a numeric field & Key and I use it to allow the user to print a report based on which Contributor_ID value the user enters. This works fine. However, I would like the user to have the option to enter * and then have the report include ALL the contributor IDs. I have done this before on a text field without a problem, however is this not possible on a numeric field as it is not working? I'm trying not to have another version for the ALL option.
If this is not possible, are there any alternatives?
Hi, I'm running an Append Query from an Excel <linked> file to a table in access. From what I can tell, the first filed is overflowing with a linked filed numeric of 'Double'. You can't change linked table fields. However when I first link the Excel file, the Append works... :D only when I reboot the PC and start the next day's work, do I get this message... :eek:
1. Should I include in my MACRO an import to a table and then append...? :mad: 2. Is there a trick in the append query I can use to prevent the error...? :rolleyes:
