Queries :: Update Table With Values From Field Using Results From Select Query
Sep 23, 2014
Let's say Table (T1) has fields F1 and F2. After a massive update to T1, there are some records with F1 = "" because a Dlookup using F2 as criteria to another Table (T2) resulted in a null. I created a select query to show unique T1F2 values where T1F1 = "". The user can use this query to find out which F2 values need to be added to T2.
How do I create an update query that will update T1F1 with values from T2 using the T1F2 results from the select query to again use the Dlookup to T2 (of course after T2 has been updated to contain the missing F2's)?
What I have a a form that my lab supervisor would use. That person selects the records that are to be modified and assigns work, completes work or otherwise updates the status of the records. One of the options is to mark a record as not having a sample here if it has already been marked as having been here. So essentially, I want to modify the record to change the sample arrival date and sample number field (which is a foreign key field) to null or empty. I have created a delete query that deletes the corresponding record just fine.I just am having difficulty updating the two fields mentioned above. When the supervisor selects the record the primary key for that record is also picked up so it is easy to know exactly what record to adjust. The query returns the information to be updated just fine, it just doesn't do that. Here is the sql of the query. As I said, I don't care if the fields are empty or null. Also the fields aren't required.
Code: UPDATE TestRequestTable SET TestRequestTable.SampleLocation = "", TestRequestTable.SampleArrivalDate = "" WHERE (((TestRequestTable.TestRequestNumber)=[Forms]![LabScheduleForm]![TRNumberCombo]));
I'm fairly new to Access. 's various select queries containing useful and useless results. I want to create a select query that will pick out all the useful figures into a 1 row table that can then be pasted into Excel.
e.g Existing Select Query 1 returns 1 row showing Average Age, Average Price, Total rainfall Existing Select Query 2 returns 1 row showing Average Weight, Average Salary, Total snowfall Existing Select Query 3 returns *2* rows: It returns Distance from London, Hours daylight and population for Town A and Town B
I want a select query that returns 1 row showing (6 items):
Total rainfall, Total snowfall, Town A Distance from London, Town A Population, Town B Distance from London, Town B Population.
I've been able to handle getting Total rainfall and Total snowfall. But I cant figure out how to get Town A Distance from London, Town A Population, Town B Distance from London, Town B Population to appear in the same row of the same query results as Total rainfall, Total snowfall.
I have a simple select query on a SQL table from Access. The query is:
SELECT tbl_Orders.OrderID, tbl_Orders.Approved FROM tbl_Orders WHERE (((tbl_Orders.Approved)=0) AND ((tbl_Orders.Completed)<>0)) ORDER BY tbl_Orders.OrderID;
The strange thing is that sometimes it pulls 34 results, and sometimes 38. From what I can tell, it should be pulling all 38.
What can I do to make sure it gets all the records?
I have a query with an INNER JOIN and ORDER BY that is working great. Now, using the same JOIN, I need to update values in one table with the values in another. I thought it would be simple until I learned you can't do an ORDER BY with an UPDATE. Is there another way to achieve the same result? If you remove the 'ORDER BY', the statement below doesn't produce an error but the results are not correct:
UPDATE TableA INNER JOIN TableB ON (Left(TableA.CDN,6))=(TableB.CDN) SET TableA.HCC = TableB.HCC WHERE TableB.HCC Like '241*' AND TableB.BBB = 'X' AND TableA.CCC = "1234" AND TableA.HCC IS NOT NULL ORDER BY TableB.HCC, TableA.CDN;
I have a question where I need to effectively invert the results of a select query.
I have multiple tables in the database, but the 2 I'm looking at are TBL.Trip and TBL.TripDiary
A trip is logged in the trip table, and then an operator logs a diary entry against the trip. One of the options that the operator selects is when they receive an email back from the traveller, this is logged as a diary entry.
I need the query to look at the DIARY_Action field and select all records in the TBL.Trip that DO NOT CONTAIN an entry for Diary Action "4".
I can produce a select query that gives me the results to see all trips that HAVE had a response, with a simple IS LIKE "4" query in the action field.
If I change this to IS NOT LIKE "4", I get the results that I need, but duplication due to the various other "diary" entries in the table".
I simply need the inverse of the IS LIKE query but cannot see how to remove the duplicates?
I Want to Create an Query to Find Different Values in A Table/ Query
Like Month Year Name School Post Jan 2012 Ankur School 1 Post 1 Feb 2012 Ankur School 1 Post 1 Mar 2012 Ankur School 2 Post 1 Apr 2012 Ankur School 2 Post 2 May 2012 Ankur School 2 Post 2 June 2012 Ankur School 3 Post 2
Now i want in result of Query is only like
Month Year Name School Post Jan 2012 Ankur School 1 Post 1 (Starting Ledger) Mar 2012 Ankur School 2 Post 1 (Change in School) Apr 2012 Ankur School 2 Post 2 ( Change in Post) June 2012 Ankur School 3 Post 2 (Change in School)
I have 2 form controls one a combobox and the other a text box. The text box select the site (txtLocation) where the user can enter part of the name of the site and all sites with those characters are returned. I've done this by adding:
Code: Like [Forms]![frmSearchDB2]![txtLocation] & "*"
into the criteria on the Site field in the query design editor.I also want the combobox to have an affect on the query. I want it to query on user status. However if the combobox reads "All Users" I want it to return all status's and all null values. In the criteria field I put:
Code: iif([Forms]![frmSearchDB2]![cbxUserStatus] = "All Users",like "*",[Forms]![frmSearchDB2]![cbxUserStatus])
It kind of works but no null values are pulled back. Should it be an expression?Do I need to do it in VBA?
I have a created a query which I want to update a table. The field is called DTP. I have the Workingdays2 module in place as well as the Holidays Table. The dates (date only) are called Time in and Transaction date. I want the table to update records only if the entry in Completed is Yes. I have attached screenshot of what I have in query. I am no good whatsoever at VBA so I used the Query design view. It shows how many records will be updated (which is a valid number) and shows me which field will be updated. However when I run the query and then opend the Table the DTP field is empty.
Alright, i'm almost sure this isn't the best way of doing this,
But i wanna build a scoring system out of three criteria. cost, delivery, and qaulity. I have those tables built along with a contact table where there over all score will be tallied up. Each contact can have more than one entry in the criteria.
So what I did was i built a query to make a new table for each contact to generate the score and the contact id, then using that ID, i update it to the contact table using the UPDATE function...however wheni have 3 criteria, and 400 contacts..this obviously becomes painfully slow.
The question is, is there a way to directly pull the sql query results (summing the total of each contacts score for each criteria), then storing it into the contact table without making a new table in the process?
I run a physical therapy office and patients come in for treatment either 3, 4 or 5 times per week. My database is used to track these frequencies (among other things).
I have 3 queries which count how many patients come in 5, 4 and 3 times/week.
In my main table I have fields called "how many 5's", "how many 4's" and "how many 3's".
I have tried to design an update query which will update those fileds in my main table to reflect the counts in the 3 queries mentioned above.
(I'm not using SQL view, I'm using the query design view)
In the "update to:" row, I use the Build function and locate the count I'm looking for.
Problem: when I run the query I get the error: Operation must use an updateable query.
Below is a sample of the table with the data. I manually added the 1 and 0 to the hc_Year field. However, I would like to create an Update query that will add a 1 to the hc_Year if its the first instance of PIDM & regsYear and add a 0 to the records that are not the first instance.
I am trying to build a calculated field that counts the number of times the letter E appears in 8 fields. the query currently looks like the attachment.
I need to have one more field , lets call it NetFlags, that is the number of times the Letter E is in the row for each Technician.
So for Brown, Tom NetFlags = 2, for White, Paul NetFlags = 4 and Wills,Fred = 0
I am using this query to cluster a group of customers by monthly revenue. The issue is that I get duplicates. The customers appear more than once because the condition is valid more than once. How do I get access to select only once a field from Normalization sheet table??
SELECT [Cust Profile This Year].MSISDN, [Cust Profile This Year].[Total Revenue], [Normalization sheet].[Arpu Range] FROM [Normalization sheet], [Cust Profile This Year] WHERE ((([Cust Profile This Year].[Total Revenue])>=[Normalization sheet].[Arpu]));
I have a table that has several fields including CallID (autonumber) and SKU (text)
SKU can be anything up to 9 characters, sometimes numeric sometimes alphanumeric. For example: 24300, AA23145, G58d444, 24999, 89332,...
Based on the Count of CallID I can easily get the top20 calls on each SKU. This is the query I use for that:
Code: SELECT TOP 20 Count(Calls.CallID) AS CountOfCallID, Calls.SKU FROM Calls GROUP BY Calls.SKU HAVING ((Not (Calls.SKU) Is Null)) ORDER BY Count(Calls.CallID) DESC;
The problem is that now I have been asked to create two different lists. One that has the top 20 SKU that range from 24520 and 24599 and another one that does the res tof the SKUs.
Obviously my problem is that the SKU field is text, not numbers so I can't just limit the results in the query by using "Between 24520 and 24500" in the query criteria.
In another Table containing additional company information, I have the primary key as the company ID, and I want to make the query that outputs the above table, auto-fill the blank fields in the existing Company information with the same headings as Data ABC etc.
However, I don't want the query to add full new records (which I think is the Append Query?), instead I want the existing company records have additional fields (Data ABC) added, with information from the Query added.
I have three tables. TableA contains certain order information, such as the username of the employee, type of order, alias number, etc. TableB contains phone numbers, username of the employee, etc. TableC contains supervisor names and alias numbers.I didn't make these tables but that's what I'm working with. I connected TableA to TableB with the username of the employee, and then TableA to TableC using the alias numbers.
I have a report that summarizes how many orders of each type there are. It shows the supervisor, employee username, alias numbers and then each type of order with the amount of orders of each type under the headers.My boss wants to be able to click on the amount of that type of order and have it show him the details for those orders. This is where my problem is.
I was able to use an Inner Join type of query that allows me to filter the data by order type (however, I have to make a new query for each order type since I'm not too experienced on this). The problem is that I cannot find a way to have a query filter the data by order type AND employee username, so that it only displays the orders taken by a certain employee and it only contains one order type at a time, depending on which order type you clicked.
I have a query that takes a value, Proposalvalue, and depending on the currency, loc curr, it calculates the currency. It gets the currency value from the currencies table and appends to TableB
eg. proposalvalue currency 50000 1
Currencies id Value 1 0.6587
This creates the conversionvalue = 32935 in the TableB.
I have a form that can viewedit the data in TableB.
Using this form, I want to be able to change the proposalvalue and for it to automatically update the conversionvalue.
I have an "order details" table that needs to populate a field called "Voucher" with data from another table called "codes". The "codes" table also has a true/false field called "allocated" because once allocated the code cannot be re-used.
I am trying to work out how to automatically allocate the next unallocated code in the "codes" table to each record in the "order details" table when that order details record has a DiscountID of "92".
Order Details Table Fields and conditions/criteria: ID - primary key DiscountID - only when the DiscountID = 92 Voucher - only populated when Discount ID = 92
Codes table Fields and conditions/criteria: ID - primary key code = text field with a code like "einstein01", "einstein02" Allocated = False
Is there a way to put the next available code into the order details record then mark that code as allocated in the codes table. Then, move on to the next order details record that has a discountID = 92, input the next unallocated code and mark that code etc. etc.
Ideally, I would like to do this to happen via an event when the Order forms button "Close" is clicked.
