How To Use A Calculated Field To Get Average Of 4 Text Fields
Sep 2, 2013
I have 4 texts fields [DEVICE INSTALL] , [INSTRUMENT STAND], [BRACKETS RACEWAY SUPPORTS], [TUBING CAPILLARY] all can be either a percentage from 1-100 or "N/A" except [DEVICE INSTALL].I would like to calculate the [percentage complete]
my calculation in the field is as follows:
([DEVICE INSTALL]+
IIf([INSTRUMENT STAND]="N/A",100,[INSTRUMENT STAND])+
IIf([TUBING CAPILLARY]="N/A",100,[TUBING CAPILLARY])+
IIf([BRACKETS RACEWAY SUPPORTS]="N/A",100,[BRACKETS RACEWAY SUPPORTS]))
/4
this seems to work to a degree. but for some reason when the [INSTRUMENT STAND] value is not "N/A" the percentage calculated is a wacky value much higher than 100. how could I possibly change my division #?
I have a calculated field on the detail level of a report which is calculated as follows:
=Iif([BREAK]>1200 AND [LUNCH]<>0),1800-[BREAK],IIF([BREAK]<>0,900-[BREAK],0))
This calculates correctly, however when I put the following calculated field in the Group footer section of the report, I receive a "statement too complex" error message:
=1800-Avg(Iif([BREAK]>1200 AND [LUNCH]<>0),1800-[BREAK],IIF([BREAK]<>0,900-[BREAK],0))
The calculation for the Group footer works in Access 97 so I know that syntactically the statement is correct.
Can anyone tell me why this will not work in Access 2003 and provide a work around so I can get the Average of the calculated Detail section field.
I am trying to construct a crosstab that averages a calculated field from a previous query. It is returning a "Data Type Mismatch" message.
The field I am trying to average is a subtraction of dates to find total days. I assume my field is not a number so I have tried to wrap it in CDbl() to change the type.
The formula is
Code: CASE_DAYS: CDbl(IIf([Actual Close Date]-[Creation Date]>=0,[Actual Close Date]-[Creation Date],""))
I want to calculate the average of 16 anodes from text box into the "average drop" box and simultaneously want the data to be saved in the table too as one of the fields. Also, How to load form view while the database loads?
Hello, Bit of a newby to all this. Am trying to use a text box as a calculted field. I am doing so using an sql statment in control source The sql stat is built and tested using build query and then copied and pasted from sql view)
I keep getting #name? as an error.
I have managed using dlookup of the same saved sql to return the required value (which works) but find it to be a bit slow and clunky so wanted to give this a go instead. If somebody can have a look at the query below I would much apreciate.
=(SELECT Sum(QryInout!CostExVATGBP) AS TTlCostExVATGBP FROM QryInout &_ WHERE (((QryInout.StockImportNoJoinToAll)=[Forms]![FrmSPurch]![ImportNoNew])) &_ GROUP BY QryInout.ProdType &_ HAVING (((QryInout.ProdType)="Freight"));)
Note that I have tried with and without the &_ and also with or with out the brackets..
I have a calculated field that shows the sum of two other fields on the same form. I've got as far as making the expression work but it doesn't quite do what I want. I need the calculated field to update when any one of the reference fields are updated (i.e. currently it only updates once all the fields in the expression are updated).
How to I change the form so that the calculated field updates based on current values (including any fields that contain no value)?
I'm creating a report to check for over- or under-stocked items. The report is working fine, gets all the records etc. except that it thinks that the OnHand field from my inventory query is text or something, at any rate not a number. I have successfully set the format of the field in the query to General Number, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Here's the SQL for the report:
Code: SELECT DISTINCT Signs.SignCode, Signs.SignDescr, Size2.XYdim, qryOnHand.OnHand, Bins.Rack, Bins.Level, Bins.BinNum FROM (Size2 INNER JOIN (Signs INNER JOIN (Items INNER JOIN qryOnHand ON Items.[ItemsID] = qryOnHand.[ItemsID]) ON Signs.[SignID] = Items.[SignID]) ON Size2.[SizeID] = Items.[SizeID]) INNER JOIN (Bins INNER JOIN InventoryDetail ON Bins.[BinID] = InventoryDetail.[BinID]) ON Items.[ItemsID] = InventoryDetail.[ItemsID] WHERE (((qryOnHand.OnHand)<=[Check for signs with fewer than:]));
I am trying to get an average from several numbered fields, which some may occasionally be blank.
=Nz([JanUS],0)+Nz([FebUs],0)+Nz([MarUS],0)
I get an error message that says "The expression =Nz([JanUS],0)+Nz([FebUs],0)+Nz([MarUS],0) cannot be used in a calculated column. This is a hypothetical expression being used.
I would like to append a text item to each value in a calculated field. consider the field name is "Division" and I want to append the word "Division" to the values put out by the field "Division"
My attempt was: Division & " " & "Division". This produced an error in the report.
The interface being used is a main form with various tabs and a subform on each of these tabs.
There is one field ('max power density') in my database that is calculated using 'Max Rated Power' and 'Cylinder Capacity' however these are in different tables and subforms. The 'max power density' and 'max rated power' are in table and subform 1 but 'cylinder capacity' is in table and subform 2. Is it possible to keep them in separate tables/subforms and still calculate the field?
I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get an unbound text box on a form to show the average of four other text boxes on that form. A bit of searching led me to the code below as a possible solution, but it isn't working.
Code:
Dim nbrFieldsUsed As Integer Dim nbrTotal As Double nbrFieldsUsed = 0 nbrTotal = 0
If Not IsNull(Me!txtEWT_STD_1) Then nbrFieldsUsed = nbrFieldsUsed + 1 nbrTotal = nbrTotal + Me!txtEWT_STD_1 End If
[code]....
My thinking was to have this code on the 'After Update' event (or maybe On Change?) of each of the four text boxes which would then give a running average in the box that shows the average?
I have a large amount of field data that was taken by a data logger. Specifically, The datalogger has five temperature probes embedded in soil, and takes a measurement automatically once every hour for each probe. So the table has a Time field, and then a Temp1, Temp2,... Temp5 field. I need to be able to average the temperature fields. This within itself is easy enough, I just tell the query to find (Temp1+Temp2+...+Temp5)/5. However, unfortunately, because it is field data is is very common for one (or more) of the ports to be malfunctioning at any one measurement time for a number of reasons.
If, for instance, Port one does not have a value, then the formula I entered will not work, as it can't add a null value to numbers, and otherwise It would be dividing by five whereas there were only four values to average.
I am trying to find an average of four fields in either a form or query. Basically I have figures for [Grade 1], [Grade 2] but [Grade 3] is an empty field. I need to include all three field because there are sometimes 3 grades, but a majority are 2 grades. How to do so?
I can't figure out how to skip the first space from the right, and reference to the second occurring space, so that I get "T4T 1L7" to populate the ADD_2 field, and everything to the left of "T4T 1L7" placed in the ADD_1 field.
In 2002, I set up a database with Access 97 which included a table with a memo field. Through the years, the database has moved from Windows XP and Access 97 to Windows 7 and Access 2007. Recently, the memo data has been difficult to edit (the display will move away from the cursor, or a new record will be inserted).
It appears to be logically straightforward to convert the memo data into multiple text fields as the memo field can be parsed for dates of entry.
I have a text field I need to convert to numbers. There are both empty and non empty fields. I then need to show the numbers like this "1.234" and a "*" in the empty fields.
I have tried to convert the fields with Cint, but I get an #Error in the empty fields.
I'm trying to concatenate two text fields into a memo field using an expression in a select query. My problem is that the text fields together end up more than 255 characters, so I need the resulting field to be a memo instead. I can't change the underlying text fields to memo fields because this is a large database used by others who need those fields to be text.
I have several combo box fields in a bound form where they are selecting values from a list (values stored in a separate table) and then loading a number into the bound table field when selected.
How can I put a text prompt in these fields when loading the form which gets removed when focused and of course is not permitted to attempt a save into the bound numeric fields? I've done quite a bit of searching but can only find materials about doing this on bound text fields. I've also seen solutions using Nz which don't seem to work.
My query contains two calculated fields [TaxSavings1] and [TaxSavings2], which are based on some currency and number-type fields in one of my underlying tables.
I just created another field in my query which looks like: [TaxSavings1]+[TaxSavings2]. Instead of adding the two fields, it actually lumps the two numbers together. For example, if [TaxSavings1] =135 and [TaxSavings2]=30.25, it will give me: 13530.25. I need it just to simply add, i.e. answer of 165.25.
Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks in advance.
I am trying take all the data from one field "TOTAL" and Average it out and print it in one of my forms. I would also want this data to update automatically as the totals are updated. I am attaching some screen shots of what I am talking about The first pic is the totals field that i want to have averaged up. The second pic is where I want it to be printed out.
I have a field in an MS Acess query that has records like - 1,000; 534; 769.13; 0; 654; 0, etc. It can also have few null records.I want to calculate the average of all records which are greater than zero. Ignore zero values or null values.
