Avoid Windows Login Prompt While Accessing Report Server.

Dec 29, 2006

Hi,

We are using Microsoft Reporting Service 2005 to develop reports and we are accessing these reports through a J2EE application.
The front end is implemented using Tapestry and we using JBoss as our applicaiton server.
We are using Shared Data Sources for the reports and we set its data source type to SQL Server Analysis Services.
In the credential tab, by default "Use Windows authentication" is selected. All other options are disabled.

When I access my reportserver through my web application, I am always prompted for a windows login and password.
How can I avoid being shown the windows login prompt, since our web application will be used by several users and we do not want the users to type in a username/password everytime they want to access our reports.

Please suggest me solution for this scenario.

Thanks in advance!

Login Prompt When Deploying Solution/report To Report Server

Aug 10, 2007

Hi there,

I've seen some similar posts to this one, however none with an answer and I'm wondering if anyone has actually figured out what causes this issue. I'm running SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.

I'm attempting to implement a folder structure for the report server, therefore am creating individual solutions in Visual Studio for each folder. At the top level i.e http://servername/reportserver/ I am able to deploy reports no problem.

However creating a folder at the next level in the tree and then deploying to that level such as http://servername/reportserver/ManagementReports causes a Reporting Services Login prompt to appear. No matter what user credentials I enter they are not accepted. I have full administrator rights the server, the site and the folders in question.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Matt

SQL Server Agent Accessing The Command Prompt

Jun 4, 2007

I need to verify a csv file exists before I call a stored procedure to complete a bulk insert. The first step in the SP will be to verify the file exists (that particular "Job" step did not fail). I have only one step in the job that I have set the type as "Operating System (CmdExec)" and the Command is "Dir C:NAFCDMDataShipmentsCooperShipments.csv". When I execute the job manually to verify the proper operation I receive the error listed below. I know the path and file name are correct as I originally typed in the UNC, when it failed I copied it from the Address bar. I attempted to move the file to the root location without success. I attempted to use another file. I have attempted to rename the file. The DBAs will not allow me to use the SP_cmdshell stored procedure (that was my first thought).

I added 'Everyone' with Full Access to the root folder and propagated these permissions to all containing folders. This again did not allow the job to run. I changed the statment to "REN C:NAFCDMShipmentsShipment.csv Shipment1.csv". I continue to get the same error. Can someone Please point me in a direction to fix this problem?

"The process could not be created for step 1 of job 0x71D51027F920A140A2913234DB7FF509

(reason: The system cannot find the file specified). The step failed.

The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sa. The last step to run was step 1 (Verify the File's Existance)."

Can Report Results Be Filtered By Windows User Login?

May 2, 2007

Good morning,

I'm in the process of creating a report to show employees and managers holiday and absence information. Is there a way of filtering the results of the report based on who is running the report, so that employees could only see their own information and managers could only see theirs and their subordinates information?

What I was hoping to do was create a lookup table which cross-references Windows logins with employee numbers and then use this information to pass a parameter to the SQL query, but I don't know how to retrieve the login from the machine being used to view the report.

I've heard about row level security and it seems ideal in theory but I fear the implimentation of row level security would be far beyond my meagre knowledge.

Any constructive suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Paul

SQL Server 2014 :: Can Get User Windows Login When Using Server Login Authentication

Apr 26, 2015

Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.

However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks. On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...

MSDTC - Remote Accessing SQL Server 2005 From A Desktop Application - Windows 2003 Server

Dec 6, 2007

Hi,

I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

But my SQL Server allows remote connection, and I am able to do a select statement.
But when I insert/update anything, it's throwing this error. I guess some problem with MSDCT. Anybody have any idea ?

How To Avoid That My Application Writes To Windows' EventLog?

Oct 25, 2006

Hi everyone,

Every time that my application throws an .DTSX file I don't know who or what is writing on eventviewer.application if failed or successful.
Execute method implements a customized class which implements IDTEVENTS but I promise that in any place of my code I'm writing that information.

app.execute(nothing,... MYEVENTS)

Public Class MYEVENTS
Implements IDTEVENTS

..
..
..
..

All the methods are declared although empty but OnQueryCancel which is customized.

How to disable this behaviour?

I'm concerned for that because of we could launch (when it's gonna in live) 300 or 400 packages on-daily basis!!!

Thanks in advance and regards,

Use Windows Group As Local Login For Linked Server?

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all:

I have created a linked server that connects a SQL 2000 database to a SQL 2005 database. If I use individual SQL or Windows accounts as local logins on the SQL 2000 instance, I can successfully query the linked SQL 2005 database.
(For security we use the setting "For a login not defined in the list above, connections will: not be made")

If I try to use a Windows group as the local login, remote queries fail with the error
"Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists"

Is it not possible to use a Windows group for the local login of a linked server?

If I run 'exec sp_linkedservers' the setup appears valid

Linked Server Local Login Is Self Mapping Remote Login

SQL2005Serv DomainWindows_Group 0 SQL_Read_Access

Can't Add Any Groups To A SQL 2005 Login On Windows 2008 Server

May 16, 2008

Hi,
We have just created a new Windows 2008 server running SQL 2005 64 bit. I am in the process of migrating old SQL 2000 databases onto this new server. One of the databases required a SQL login for some Windows groups that get created from the SMS software. I'm having a problem when I go into create a new login, select object type Groups, from this location , I enter the object name and click Check Names and it finds it. I select okay and everything looks good. But when I click ok on the New Login screen, I get the 15401 error saying that Windows NT user or group not found. I have gone into the Server Manager - Groups and verified that the group exists, and it does. The only thing I see when I click properties is on the bottom right had side of the screen it says "Changes to a user's group membership are not effective until the next time the user logs on." It says this for all the groups on this server and I get the same error message when I try to add any group. I have had the user that is a memeber of this group log off and back on a few times, but it still says the same thing and I still get the same error.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Is there something on the Windows 2008 server setup that we missed?

Thanks,
Isabelle

PLEASE HELP - Accessing Web Services Through Windows App

Mar 6, 2007

I am running a vb.net application that is using the Web Service to
issue Update Snapshot. There is a Windows account we are using as a
Service account that has the proper permissions to Generate Events.
The application is running on AutoSys on a 2003 server. I have
confirmed that it will run under this users credentials manually by
logging into the server as the user and firing the app. It works
without a problem. This was using Default Credentials.

The AutoSys job is configured to run under this user's credentials.
There are three ways I have executed this application

>>Through AutoSys running as the user with the proper permissions (this is in place of a Local Service account which is default for AutoSys. This windows user has local admin permissions on the AutoSys server as well as Generate Event permission as confirmed before)
>>By logging into the server as Administrator and executing the app with "Run As..." set to the Windows ID
>>By switching to new.NetworkCredentials and passing the hardcoded username/pass/domain

For all of the above scenarios - it fails

The ONLY time it successfully issues UpdateSnapshot is when I am
logged in to the server as the user in question. In ALL other
instances detailed above it fails and the following comes out of the
event log

"Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'MyDomainName'.

I have no idea why it is choking on the Domain Name in all three of
those scenarios.

Do I need to impersonate that user through code when passing the Web
Service credentials??

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help - I need to wrap this up. ANY HELP WOULD BE
GREATLY APPRECIATED

Intranet, Windows Authentication, Sql Server Login Failed For User '(null)'

Mar 31, 2006

Hi--
I am building an intRAnet website using windows authentication for website access and SQL Server access ( Trusted_Connection = true ).
In IIS I have these settings:

Allow Anonymous = unchecked (false)
Windows Authentication = Checked (true)
Digest windows = checked (true)
In my Web.Config file:

authentication="windows"
impersonate="true"
allowusers="*"
When I pull up the page these are my credentials:
Security.Principal.Windows:                  mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page)
Me.User.Identity:                                  mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page)
Threading.currentThread.currentUser    mydomainmyuserid (this is correct what it shows on my page)

So the ASP.NET page recognizes it is me and my domain.  However, when i click a button to pull some data from a database I get the error message: Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
My data access on SQL Server works fine.  The weird thing is when I debug on my machine it pulls data fine.  but when I copy the files to the windows 2003 server it doesn't work.
Do i have to do something with delegation?

Why Does Windows Login Have Full Permissions On Local Installation Of SQL Server 2005?

Jun 22, 2007

Hi,

I recently installed an evaluation copy of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on my local machine and during the installation I used Local System system account for the SQL Server service and set the server to use Mixed Mode authentication.

I am able to connect to this local server Database Engine with my Windows login through SQL Server Management Studio and am able to perform sysadmin tasks. My question is why?

My thinking was that even though my Windows login would provide me a connection to the server, I would still have to manually add this login to the sysadmin server roles but after checking the sysadmin role, my Windows login isn't in there. The Windows login is not found under Security - Logins in SSMS either.

Can someone tell me should details for the login be visible on the server and why it seems to have sysadmin permissions ?

Thanks

Parameter Prompt And Report Name Manipulation

Hello,

I have created a DLL and specific translation funtions for my reports.
With these functions i can manipulate all text and numeric data in anyway i want
depending on several user settings (like user language and user local browser settings).

The only textfields i'm not able to manipulate with my functions are the parameter prompts.

Is the a way to manipulate them through custom functions ?

A second question i have. When reports are deployed, they are deployed with there initial file name (file name.rdl).
Is there also a way that i could manipulate the description when they reports are deployed ?
example : when the user's browser is set to english he would see eg: Sales overview
but when the browser language is set to french he would see eg: Résumé des ventes.

Greetings
Vinnie
