BIDS Noob Requesting Help With Error Attaching Auto-named Database

I'm learning to use BIDS, and have been going through the exercise in Chapter 19 of the book Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. I'm probably in over my head with this since I've never used any SQL services/software before, but the company I'm interning at wants to build a workflow using SSIS, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, I volunteered to train myself for the task. I'm at a part in the book exercise where I'm editing one of the components of a Data Flow task - an OLE DB Destination. When I try to select the table/view in the editor for this, it gives me the following error:
€œAn attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsgroseMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsCase Study ExerciseCase Study ExerciseCase Study.database failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.€?
When I googled this, most people seemed to be getting it through other SQL software, so I'm not sure if the error has the same cause or not. I know that the file in the above error message already exists, but I don't understand why the task editor won't just let me select a database that already exists so I can complete the component. Can anyone explain this to me?
I've just created my first projects using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 Express. This is the basic;
One windows service is created that updates a database. The windows service running under "Local system" account One windows application where a user can see data (and change) from the database A common business and dataaccess layer/project is used by both applications Connection string to the database: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|DataDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=60;User Instance=True"
Both application is located in the same directory. When the computer starts the windows service starts and works perfectly. But when a user starts the windows applications the following error is reported "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file..A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share".
It look likes that only one of my application can connect to the database at a time!
Is it possible to use separate applications to connect to the same database file?
I have seen some solutions of which I tried on this form for the error I am receiving, but I still cannot get the issue resolved.
Here is my case:
I developed an app using SQL Express as the local data source. I published it to my server using the Once Click install feature. When I look in my project viewer, under settings, My db connection strings are listed as follows: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|TAP_Master.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
From another computer, I navigate to the publish site, install and run the application with no problems. I have on another computer, the same app with an updated version number that I wish to publish, however the difference is is that this published version does not include the database as I do not want the end user to overwrite any existing data that they may have from the previous version.
I publish the updated version, install it but when the app runs, I receive the message, "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file".
I have a page for saving a "home" data. As the page unloads I will redirect the user to the page on which he can add the photos to this "home".
Well I structured my photo adding page with first requesting the "homeID" which is an auto Integer (PK). Because it's renaming the uploaded photos with the homeID and _01, _02...
Because of that i need to send the user to the photo adding page with "response.redirect......aspx?homeID=.....
homeID= ???
But I don't know how to get the homeID value, that the SQL Server automaticly selects for the data. As it is just saving it...

I build a WebApp which i use the default DataBase that come with the App_Data folder. I have Users and roles into that folder with all my tables regarding my new App. Why i cant make it work under IIS on my webserver ? When i open it with Visual Studio everything works but outside of it nothing. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file c:inetpubwwwrootSurveyApp_Dataaspnetdb.mdf failed. The last time I saved my Visual C# project, everything was functionning perfectly. Now, when I open my project, I have this warning on every one of my inherited forms. When I run the project, everything works fine. I've looked around for similar problems, but never found the solution that truly fits for me. Any suggestions?

I've read through all the posts in this fourm that are related to the problem I'm getting with this error message on my main form, but none of the fixes seen to solve the problem. So I hope someone can get me pointed in the right direction.

Hi I have a problem when I want to open a page with the database record. This page is created in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express. Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. I know allot of folks are having this problem and I tried lots of things but nothing works. I understand the problem is coping the SQL Express on another server is the problem - I just not sure what to do?

I checked my server forum and they said I had to name a database: Example: Database=(unique name);
But this didn't work either.
I just tried a simple web project that has only one database and one table in SQL Express with one sqldatasource and one datagrid. It works fine on my pc but when I use the copy function in Visio Studio 2005 Pro - I can't run the site on the remote server: www.myjewelrydirect.com
I tried coping the database manually. I tried disconnecting the database before I copy it. Below is my connection statement:
When I create a report, the wizard auto-renames fields.
E.g. if Table_COLUMN_Name=CustomerName, the list column header in the report will change to Customer Name. The wizard figures out Friendly names based on capitalization, and underscores and so on.

I was getting following error while creating a database or attaching a database to sql server 2005
"The file <<*.mdf>> is compressed but does not reside in a read-only database or filegroup.."
In this scenario, if you try sp_attach_db procedure, you get following error: Msg 5118, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
After little bit of troubleshooting, I found this was happening because of a folder option (of the folder where database file reside (in case of attach) or being created (in case of create)).
Go to folder properties, General Tab, click on Advanced button,check "Compress or Encrypt attributes" section. If the first option (Compress contents to save disk space) is checked, you get that error. Uncheck it to fix that problem.
I'm trying to attach a database file and it's associated database log file to SQL Server. However I am using the 'SQLDataRoot' value from the registry to determine the absolute path to the DB file and DB log file. Like so...

I am very new to SQL and just completed an install of SQL 2005 Express. After install, I downloaded the Adventure Works database and attempted to attach through both the Object Browser (right-click 'Databases'--->'Attach') and by running the script that is located on the SQL download page where I got the Adventure Works db.
Here's the error that I get:
"Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 8, object ID 1, Index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes."
I have attempted to go through the help files, but unfortunately the above message is too cryptic for me and I have no idea what it's telling me.
I'm trying to attach a MSDE 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 Express.
I simply issue sp_detach_db XXX where XXX is the name of my MSDE database. Then sp_attach_db or create database ... with attach and both way gets the following message:
Event ID. : 3415
Description: Database 'XXX' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.
I built an app, works fine. Had the development environment working fine (VS2005 (SP0) and SQL Server Express). It had been stable for months, no problem.
Then I had to reinstall XP Pro...(finally threw too many conflicting programs into it, I guess...)
I managed to get VS2005 reinstalled ok. However, when I opened and compiled my existing app in VS2005, using Cassini, I got the dreaded error:
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <file string> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I also get this error for the compiled copy of the app on the same machine, running on IIS. (Where it also previously worked fine).
I appreciate that there are zillions of posts on this issue. I'm hoping that someone might know why this should happen in this particular case.
The thing that's different about this case is that the app was working fine; I have the app deployed on a demo machine and also on a remote server as well as on the development machine.
The only thing that changed is that there was this fresh install of SQL Server Express.
I tried using >> sp_configure user instances enabled','1';RECONFIGURE <<< in SSMSEE, which took, but didn't help.
So something is different in SSE. Since the app is stable everywhere else, I REALLY don't want to go through and adjust the connection strings...MUCH better to figure out what SSE needs to be happy with the existing connection strings...as it was before.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT----TRIED SOME THINGS:
Changed folder and file permissions to allow ASPNET full access to the .mdf's and log files (though never had to do this before on the development machine.) No change...
Can see the table contents within the .mdf through SSMSE, and also through Server Explorer in VS2005.
So because the problem happens with both IIS and Cassini, I'm assuming it's got to be an issue between ASPNET and SSE.
EDIT --- TRIED SOME MORE THINGS:
I dimly remember that when I had this problem before, it was that the error message was too "dumb". It wasn't my file that had the permissions problems, it was that the SSE System Databases had to have permissions with respect to ASPNET.
I tried to set that up but I'm a complete newb on this area, so I don't know if I did it right. In SSMSE I created a Login for MyComputer/ASPNET, and gave it all permissions and roles, and then made it an owner for the four system databases...but no joy.
Any pointers on this last piece would be helpful.

Is there a query I can run in a DB where I can search for object names that will tell me where or what it is? Trigger Name? Table Name? Constraint Name? Index NAme? or whatever?

hi, From my ealier post I learned that a MDF file can be read and written to even if I did not attach the database in the SQL Sever Management Studio. Is that behavior because of the connection string where is has AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|DNN12_24_07.mdf , Is that what "attaches" the database? This runs on SQL Express2005. Should I change the connection string to: name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=ASPNET;uid=;pwd=;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> ? Is there a statment in the XML of web.config that defines |DataDirectory| of the original connection string that points to APP_DATA where the mdf file physically resides? Thanks in advance? -KK

I have been asked to edit a web based database and have been given the site on cd. I have installed IIS, sql server express and Visual Web Developer express. I am having problems getting the mdf database connected. It works at the school where they have it installed and as far as I know I have mirrored the configuration they have on one of my test servers. The database is in App_Data the connection string is "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=c:inetpubwwwrootApp_Datacampbell.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" And the state is closed. When I view one of the aspx pages in IE I get the following.
