Visual Studio 2005 The Remote Connection To The Device Has Been Lost. Please Verify The Device Connection And Restart Debugging.
Jun 19, 2006Basically I've been using Visual Studio 2005 for a few weeks now moving a Pocket PC project from 2003 to 2005. When I hit the Start Debugging Button every time until today the project would rebuild and deploy to my pocket PC allowing me to debug etc but now I get
The remote connection to the device has been lost.
Please verify the device conection and restart debugging.
I used to get this problem in VS2003 sometimes and just like the numerous posts on different sites that I've looked at the problem eventually goes away and I'm none the wiser. One guy said that he found that if he went to bed the problem was resolved when he came back!
My PDA running Windows 2003 2nd Edition is directly connected to my PC via a USB port. I've rebooted my PC and done a soft reset on the PDA but it didn't help. I'm using ActiveSync 4.1.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
Backing Up To Network Location

Is there a way to get SQL Server to backup to a file on the network? I have tried running the SQL Server Agent under login with suitable access and using a UNC path. The SQL Server 2000 Maintenance Plan Wizard only allows you to browse to local drives which seems to indicate that this is true. The SQL 2005 Maintenance Plan looks more flexible but I haven't explored that possibility yet.
I solve the problem with a bit of VBScipt that copies the files and cleans up any old files on the local drive and on the network but I am curious as to whether there is another way. One reason for not alowing this could be to maximise the chance of the drive being available I suppose.

Oct 23, 1998I need to know if there is a way to perform a SQL Server 6.5 backup to a remote network drive WITHOUT USING A TRUST LOGIN.
My network administrator refuses to put a TRUST relation on the Primary Domain Controller. I`m not really sure why, but I need a workaround.

Trouble Backing-up All Databases To Network Folder Using A Maintenance Plan
Oct 10, 2006I have set up a Database Maintenance Plan that does a nightly backup of all of my databases (about 12 of them) to a network folder. The plan works for about 95% of the job, but most nights there will be at least 1 database which will fail with the following error...
BackupDiskFile::RequestDurableMedia: failure on backup device '\myfileserverBackupSQLDatabaseDatabaseNameD atabaseName_db_200610081749.BAK'. Operating system error 64(The specified network name is no longer available.).
I know that this is not a permission or storage problem, because it works for most of the job. And a database that fails one night, may work fine the next night only to have a DIFFERENT database fail that night, and sometimes all databases work 100%.
Is there a way to fix this problem? And if not, is there a way to be notified of which specific database in the maintenance plan is failing. The message on the job itsself is very non-descriptive and I have to manually search the logs to find out which databases were successful & which where not. It is very time consuming. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Backing Up SQL Db To A Remote Machine

I have a SQL db with a hosting company that appears to have gone bust, so am moving my site from them to a new provider. I am able to access the database on the SQL server but I need to transfer all the data and objects to my desktop PC. I have tried scripting all data/objects and DTS but these just generate errors and fail (I suspect due to permissions).
I did this once before and got a .bak file from the providers, which I was successfully able to restore elsewhere, so this is what I need to do again. However, now I'm getting no response to support requests so need to do this myself. The question, then is....
Is there a way to backup a SQL db to a .bak file on the server and then somehow transfer it to my own machine? Or is it possible to somehow run the backup to a different machine and get it off their server?
Any help would be appreciated, as I'm worried about how long I'll continue to have access to the server before they all disappear without a trace!
Backing Up To A Remote Server
Jul 8, 2006I am just getting started with MS SQL and am having to learn from scratch. I have a DB running with an ISP which I need to back up to one of my local machines. I have installed MS SQL Server 2005 and also MS SQL Server Management Studio Express. Using this, I have opened a new DB on the local machine and then accessed the DB on the remote server. If I then right click on the remote DB file and select TasksBackup, I see the backup options screen. The problem is that the destination for the backup is automatically set to a folder on the remote server and I cannot figure out how to change this so that I can download to the local machine. If I click on the 'Add' button to create a new backup path, it will only offer me a view of the remote machine, not the local file structure.
The solution is probably pretty simple, but after several hours of experimentation and searching for solutions, I still can't come up with the answer. Can anyone offer some guidance please (in idiot language - I'm new to this).

when i try to open the connection I get SqlException,altough the 10.0.0.11 machine is reachable.. is not allowed to access a remote sql server with ip?

Xp_cmdshell & Remote Backup Device Issue
May 30, 2002I want to set up remote backup device on "serverCentral" for 50 MSDE SQL2k servers so that they could use one backup to create(restore) any new customer databases. This way, I could keep one resource with many coming updating on procs and triggers...
I could create remote backup device with serverCentralackupackupdeviceName...
The problem is the remote device is "access denied" when I issued a "restore headeronly from backupDeviceName" sql query.
Neither I could issue xp_cmdshell 'dir serverCentralackup' --"Access Denied" from server49
Though I could dir serverCentralackup*.* from server49 command prompt.
It looks security permission is OK otherwise I could not dir from command line.

Remote Network Drive
Apr 24, 2008I have an SSIS package which accesses a map UNC path drive. It works fine when I run SSIS from Visual Studio. However, when I run this from a SQL Server job, it gives an error.
I am not allowed to use xp_cmdshell due to security reasons. If someone can point me to right direction, that would be greatly appricated.

Backup From A Remote Machine Over The Network.

I have scheduled a backup on a remote machine. Everyday I FTP these backups from the remote machine to the local drive.
A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.
Can any one please tell me how to make this work?

Remote Network Connection - Error 26

I am converting over from MSDE to SQL Express. My front end program is unable to connect to the database. To troubleshoot, from the remote computer I tried connecting with the management program and I get the Error 26 unable to connect.
Here is what I have done: I made sure that the SQL Server configuration has been changed to allow network connections (both TCP and named pipes). I have disable windows firewall on both machines. I confirmed that I can connect from the remote machined to the server by network browsing. Both machines are running XP Proff. There is no other security software running on either machine.
More Info. when attempting to log on I am using the server authntication, I use "sa" as the user id plus my password.
Goal. The front end of database program connects to the server remotely using a program called Hamachi over the internet. This works without a problem on MSDE. But for now I am simply try to connect using the managment program which lets you browse for other serves. When I do this it shows the remote computer, but not the name of the computer but not the SQL server which I type in like the following: "INTELsql1"
What I have not Done: I have not changed any permissions or added any users to the server, since this does not seem necessary. As stated the user of remote machine can connect to the server and change files.
Would appreciate any suggestions or tips. Thanks.

WORK3 is a XPPro, both WORK2 and 3 have full admin rights to their machines and the network, I am using SQL Authentication (sa, password)
I have used the SQL Server Config app to enable the 4 Protocols, then restarted service. I can connect locally to my database via "SQL Server Management Studio Express", and through my VB application. I have checked "allow remote connections" in the database properties.
I do not know what i am missing? any thoughts?

Aug 23, 2006I'm trying to run an SSIS package. The package runs on an SQL 2005 server on Win2k3 server. The package tries to connect to another win2k3 server with sql 2000 to retrieve some data. However, I recieve the errormessage shown in the topic.
I found info about modifying the MSDTC security settings under "component services" and did so. I made sure everything was allowed. However, the result was the same. Does anyone have any other idéa about what could cause this problem?
PS. The package works fine if I set up both databases on the same physical machine...

Remote Connect To SQL Server 2005 At Home From Private/office Network
Dec 18, 2007I'm green on this networking stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.
I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.
Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Expanding Tempdb In A Device Prevents The Device From Being Deleted
Nov 17, 1998I have a database in development in SQL Server 6.5 that needs to be occasionally deleted and rebuilt from a script when table structures are changed. I found that when very complex queries were performed, the 2 MB default size of tempdb filled up and returned errors, so I went to the Enterprise Manager to expand tempdb, learned that I had to first expand a device to expand tempdb into, and foolishly chose to expand tempdb into the same device space used by my application, instead of into one of the system databases. Now when I try to delete the device in preparation for its rebuild, the Enterprise Manager responds with an error message saying the device can't be deleted because it contains system tables. Is there any way to get the expanded portion of tempdb out of my application device so that the device can be deleted, without reinstalling SQL Server?

A Newly Placed ISA Server (2006) Is Not Allowing My IP Phones Register To A Remote Proxy Server Outside My Network

I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.
My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.
I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.
Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.
I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand

In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.

Dec 10, 2007I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.
This site receives the following error as seen in the topic:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.
We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Should have 330 rows if it works right.

While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears.
Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,

I have also searched many articles and tried following solutions but nothing working
- connectiontimeout = 0, max pool size = 7500/100, pooling = false
- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)
Can any one please help me to solve this error?
