A Newly Placed ISA Server (2006) Is Not Allowing My IP Phones Register To A Remote Proxy Server Outside My Network

Apr 22, 2008

Hi all,

I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.

My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.

I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.

Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.

I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand

Thanks in anticipation to your replies.

Leonard.

VB App Connect THROUGH Proxy To A Remote SQL Server

Feb 13, 2008

I have a VB.net app that connects to a remote SQL server via TCP/IP. Most folks can connect just fine. However some enterprise users are in a corporate environment that will only allow connections through a corporate proxy server.

The VB app does the connect to the remote SQL server via a fully routeable IP address over port 1433, implemented via a series of table adapters.

Having no such experience, I have no idea what I need to do to my app to allow it to connect THROUGH a proxy. And what sort of interaction I will personally need to have (if any) with thier IT department to configure the proxy server in any way. The user mentioned that "Only permissible outbound connection is through proxy server and it is only allowed with TCP/IP port 80 and it is only possible by authenticating with Domain ID and password." I would assume that means the connection from the VB app to the Proxy server is over port 80 and that somehow the proxy server will know (or be told) to then route to IP address of the SQL Server over port 1433.

I realize that one possible solution would be to create a WebService that runs on the same machine as the remote SQL server and have the app connect to that. However that will require a lot of rework on the application. We are looking into doing that, but right now I need a short term fix that does not require such a major rework.

Can anyone offer any insight or links that might point me in the right
direction?

Thanks!
Gary

Create Default Tables, Procedures, Etc. On Newly Connected Remote SQL Server

Jan 5, 2007

I have a website I'm ready to test on the server it will call home. I just got connected to the remote SQL server that it will be using. As I've been creating the site, I've been using the default SQL Express set-up in Visual Studio. Is there a way to have Visual Studio create all those default tables, procedures, etc. OR is there a way to copy all of that stuff from the SQL Express running on my machine to the remote SQL Server 2005?

Dec 10, 2007

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it.  Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error.  Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing.  I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do.  I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled.  I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss.  I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error.  I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Remote Connect To SQL Server 2005 At Home From Private/office Network

Dec 18, 2007

I'm green on this networking stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.

I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.

Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks!!

Allowing Remote Connections During Setup?

Aug 29, 2006

Is there a way to automatically setup SQL Server Express to allow remote connections during the installation process?

We are deploying SQL Server Express with our application and I really can't ask SMB customers to go through a series of rather complicated steps after our "turn key" setup installs everything in order for any of the other computers in their office to connect.

What's the reasoning behind that, anyway? Why create a database server setup which by default doesn't allow anyone except the server to access it? I guess that makes sense for ASP.NET but the web fad isn't the only platform developers use these days.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Evan

Problems Of Remote Connections For Creating A SQLCLR Project In SQL Server Express-ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express Via Network/LAN

Sep 19, 2007

Hi all,

In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.

2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

Publishing Report Server Through ISA Server 2006

Nov 20, 2007

I am having all kinds of problems publishing report server through ISA Server 2006. Are there any guidelines? My biggest problem is that the browser returns an error page that says ISA Server is configured to reject requests that require authentication even though I have configured ISA and the default website to allow anonymous access and require no authentication in the web listener or the firewall policy.

I have a policy that maps an external IP to the default website which has a private IP - 192.168.1.203. I have an A record in my DNS for the external IP. So, I should be able to goto http://MyReportServerSite.com/Reports/Home.aspx. NO GO! Any ideas? I have configured many other web listeners/policies for other sites and they all work fine. I've done this at least twice.

BTW, thanks to MS for the myriad of myriad of dialog boxes, property pages, dropdown lists, check boxes, etc. ad infinitum for configuring ISA Server 2006. I can't even begin to imagine calculating all the permutations... Each iteration of the product seems to get more complex. :-( Hep me, hep me pleeeease!

How To Register Local Server Under Database Engine In SQL Server 2005?

Dec 3, 2007

I want to create a database on my local machine and work with it. But I am not able to see the name of my local server under "Database Engine" in the list of "Registered Servers".

Options I tried:

(1) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "Update Local Server Registration"

(2) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "New" -> Server Registration.
In "New Server Registration" Window, in "Server Name" drop down I clicked "Browse for more" but still in "Browse for Servers" window, I am not able to see the name of my local server in "Local Servers" tag under Database Engine.

(3) If I do File -> Connect Object Explorer -> Connect to Server window in "Server name" drop down box, if I click "Browse for more", I am able to see local server name eg. "XYZ" under Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services but not under "Database Engine"

Please help me create a new database engine in SQL Server 2005 or list my local server under "Database engine" ?

Thanks

Problem Connecting To SQL Server 2006 Express

Mar 18, 2007

I have been trying literally for months to get SQL Server 2005 Express to work on my Dell Dimension WinXPPro machine. I have installed and reinstalled both the server and the 'Management System'. I have shut down and restarted all of the related Local Component Services on my machine (with the exception of the SQL Server Active Directory Helper which will not start ??).

I have reviewed much of what is in this Forum related to SQL Server 2005 Express and I find that many have had similar problems. When a connection is attempted, the following message or some minor variation appears:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)

In desparation, and at the suggestion of one of this forum's moderators, I went to try to download the SQL Server 2005 Express, Service Pack 2. I threaded my way through what I felt was an unecessarily complex set of links and finally reached a download site - but it was unclear whether or not the service pack was for SQL Server 2005 or the Express version. Giving up in dispair, it turn to you (once again BTW, I received no real help with this same question about a month ago).

Even though I seriously doubt if anyone will help me, I am willing to give it another try - mainly because I am home sick with the flu and having nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks

Which Edition And Build Of SQL Server 2005 To Use For Biztalk 2006?

Oct 12, 2007

Hi all -

We are planning to use a 2-node SQL Server 2005 cluster as part of a new Biztalk 2006 project, and I would like some advice regarding SQL Server service packs and editions.

Testing has already been running for some time without problems, but the test environment (a) is not clustered, (b) is using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition rather than Enterprise and (c) has neither of the SQL Server service packs installed.

As this is a major project for us, my instinct would be to use Enterprise Edition (maximise performance and scalability)
and to apply SP2 (because I thought it was best practice to be up-to-date). I would have liked to do this before we go Live so we don't run the risk of having to change afterwards if we hit a problem.

Understandably, the project guys' perspective is this: testing so far has not been affected by SQL Server bugs, and we should go Live with the environment we have tested in, albeit with the planned 2-node cluster which is seen as a 'must have'.

I have trawled Books Online, Technet and other resources without success, so any thoughts or info on required, recommended or preferred combinations of Biztalk 2006 with SQL Server 2005 editions and service packs in a clustered
environment would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Michael

Register A SQL Server 6.5 From SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Manager?

Feb 22, 2001

Hi

We have a situation where we run two instances of SQL server 7.0 on two separate machines. These are both administrated from one computer using the Enterprise Manager.
Now we want to be able to run queries (via query analyser) from our administration machine on an Sql server 6.5 computer running on a different part of the network. Enterprise manager from version 7.0 seems to find the SQL 6.5 server but is unable to register that server. Is this in any way possible?

Thanks

Register 6.5 Server Under 7.0

Jul 8, 1999

When converting from 6.5 to 7 the Servers I had registered under 6.5 were still available. When I try to connect to them the old 6.5 Enterprise Manager starts up and I really like this ability.

I would like to register a new 6.5 Server while running 7.0

I'm developing on 7.0 and thus would like to keep my machine running 7, but need to add 6.5 servers on occasion. Any suggestions.
(I think if I switch to 6.5 and register that will work, but don't want to switch)

Register A Server

Aug 7, 1999

I loaded a microsoft SQL server training CD. When i go to enterprise manager i am prompted for a server. I checked the online books and it says that i should use the compter name. This does not work. My dialog box that i am using to enter the computer name, logon ID, and password is titled connect server. The documented information has Register server for the title of the dialog box. Is there a difference? What am i doing wrong? I am not able to connect the server at all. This is a training disk and is only good for 120 days. I am running out of time and i have not even started.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot Register SQL Server

Jul 14, 1998

Really would like some help from anyone who has experienced this problem.
I installed SQL server v6.5 on my machine. I selected communication options TCP/IP and Named Pipes and took all the other defaults. After receiving the `installed ok` message, I went on to register the server and received the following msg.
A connection cannot be established to A0194876 [DB Library] Unable to
connect. SQL server is unavailable or does not exist.
My machine name is, A0194876. I have tried changing the machine name, rebooting, etc. but nothing works.

Not Able To Register Server

Feb 26, 1999

Hello,

We are facing problems in registering server in MS-SQL Server 6.5.
We are getting CODE EXCEPTION error. We tried unistalling SQL Server
and Re-Installing again. In spite of this, it is still giving the same error.
We happen to change the HOST name of the NT Server m/c on which
the SQL Server resides once.
What could have possibly gone wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Can't Register SQL Server In Ent. Mgr.

Apr 17, 2001

Howdy,

I installed SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition) on my desktop running Win2K Pro. During installation, a message indicated that only the client tools could be installed on this version (I assume it was referring to Win2K Pro). No errors were encountered during installation.

Now, I am trying to figure out how to get started working with SQL Server 2000. I opened the Enterprise Manager and have tried to register a SQL Server using the wizard to register a SQL Server. I then selected my computer name under the available servers list and then chose Windows Authentication to connect. On the next wizard screen I then chose to add the SQL Server to the default group name (SQL Server Group). After clicking on the Finish button, the Status block on the last screen indicates "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."

Any idea what's happening? What am I doing wrong?

TIA.

Can't Register Another SQL Server!

Feb 23, 2004

Hi all,

I'm having difficulty with registering a new SQL server across
a network. I'm guessing it's something to do with the authentication method, but as of yet I can't get it to work.
I recieve the message

"Login failed for user 'computername/Guest' "

Curiously, doing things the other way round (registering this server on the other one across the network) works absolutely fine, and as far as I can tell I have them set up exactly the same.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Ben
