Can The Data Viewers Display Chinese Characters?

Jan 11, 2007

Is there a way to change the font that the data viewer uses, so that the Chinese characters don't appear as boxes?
The data viewer displays Chinese characters as boxes, something similar to [_], at least on a computer with the following regional settings.

get-wmiobject CIM_OperatingSystem | ft OSLanguage, CodeSet, Locale

OSLanguage CodeSet Locale
---------- ------- ------
1033 1252 0409The data itself is flowing correctly into the target database with a pipeline data_type of DT_WSTR. The ideograms can be seen by query utilities which supports a unicode font (e.g. Management Studio).

How To Display UTF-8 Chinese Characters In Reporting Services

Jun 11, 2007

Hi,

We have stored some chinese characters in SQL database with datatype as nvarchar, but they are displayed in RS as some weird characters.

like this: 耹±Ã¥€¢€ 耹±Ã§¾Å½Ã¨¸Ã¨€°Ã¥€¢€ Ã¥€¹„¢(耚¡)Ã¥€¦¬Ã¥¸Ã¥°Ã§£Ã¥Ë†€ Ã¥€¦¬Ã¥¸

When we code the asp pages, we put the following on each page to display the chinese characters properly.

<meta http-equiv="CONTENT-TYPE" content="TEXT/HTML; CHARSET=UTF-8">

So my question is what do I need to do in RS in order to show the chinese characters properly as well ?

Many thanks!

Read Chinese Character From SQL(SQL Server 2005) Database Table Column And Display Chinese Character

Feb 1, 2008

Hi!

I have a table like this below and it doesn't only contain English Names but it also contain Chinese Name.
CREATE TABLE Names
(FirstName NVARCHAR (50),
LastName NVARCHAR (50));
I tried to view the column using SQL Query Analyzer, It didn't display Chinese Character.
I know that SQL Server 2005 is using UCS-2 Encoding and Chinese Character uses Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) Encoding.
I want to read the FirstName and LastName columns and display in Window Form Data Grid and ASP.NET Grid View.
I tried to use this code below and it didn't work. It convert some of the English Name to Chinese Character and it display the chinese character and some still in the original unreadable characters.
Does anybody know how to read those character from SQL Table and display the correct Chinese Character without converting the English Name into Chinese also?
Thanks

int codePage = 950;
StringBuilder message = new StringBuilder();
Encoding targetEncoding = Encoding.GetEncoding(codePage);
byte[] encodedChars= targetEncoding.GetBytes(str);
.
message.AppendLine("Byte representation of '" + str + "' in Code Page '" + codePage + "':");
for (int i = 0; i < encodedChars.Length; i++)
{
message.Append("Byte " + i + ": " + encodedChars);
}

message.AppendLine(" RESULT : " + System.Text.Encoding.Unicode.GetString(encodedChars));
Console.Writeline(message.ToString());

Chinese And Japanese Characters In Same Colation

Jul 20, 2005

SQL 2000, latest SP. We currently have the need to store data from aUTF-8 application in multiple languages in a single database.Our findings thus far support the fact that single-byte anddouble-byte characters can be held in the same DB without issue.However, when holding two sets of DIFFERING double-byte characters(i.e. Chinese and Japanese) there are issues.Since Japanese has a superset of both Kanji and Katakana charactersit's our theory that the Japanese collations will hold Chinese as well(Mandarin).1) Has anybody tried to store multiple languages in the same db? Whatcollation was used?2) Is it possible to change collation by table?3) Which collation of Japanese should be used for best multibyte,UTF-8 character sets? Currently we're testing with Japanese_CI_AS(encoding MS932).Any and all responses appreciated,Join Bytes!

Table-valued Function Does Not Accept Chinese Characters As Parameter

Nov 15, 2007

I have a table-valued function in mssql 2005 as below:
ALTER FUNCTION fn_test{   @test nvarchar(1000)}RETURNS@TEMP TABLE{   test nvarchar(1000)}ASBEGIN   INSERT INTO @TEMP   SELECT @test
   RETURNEND
Everytime, I passed in chinese character (@test), such as æ¸¬é©—, the function will return ????.  What should I do for the table-valued function, so that the chinese character can be passed in?  Please help.
Note: I can search and get the chinese characters if I use stored procedures; and the columns in the tables can store chinese chararcters as well.   Only table-valued function is not working with the chinese characters.  Is it a bug from MSSQL 2005?

Strange Behaviour With Data Viewers

Oct 17, 2006

Dear all,

I've got a SSIS package which comprises a pair of Sql Task and after that a Data Flow.
Such Data Flow own two Data Viewers, one between my Excel Source and my Derived Column and the another one between my Derived Column and my Ole DB Destination. Up to here, everything's fine.

Package really works properly but when I execute only the first Sql Task runtime shows (as usual) Excel Source Ouput Data Viewer1 and Derived Column Output Data Viewer1. Both windows empty, of course. Problem comes when I choose 'Copy Data'. Inmediately, appears a dialog with the message:
"Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I wonder, at first, why on earth these two windows are showed when I execute a task which belongs to Control Flow no Data Flow????? What happen?

Maybe my doubt is a little bit devious, crazy.

Thanks in advance for your input,

Data Mining HTML Viewers Issue

Dec 14, 2007

I have a decision tree model and I am trying to view the tree using the DMDecisionTreeViewer control as in this sample http://www.sqlserverdatamining.com/MovieSurveyDemo/ . I followed the instructions at this site http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms160727.aspx and set the following properties:

Server My analysis services server
Database My analysis services catalogue
Model My decision tree model name
ViewType Tree
TargetTree My decision tree's predictable attribute

When I run my application, the component does not display anything and the webpage produces two errors:

1. Syntax Error
2. 'NodeData' is undefined

Furthermore, when I run the query that is expected to give me the TargetTree property value, I get nothing as a result.

SELECT NODE_UNIQUE_NAME, ATTRIBUTE_NAME

FROM [Model].CONTENT

WHERE NODE_TYPE=2
I managed to view my decision tree using windows viewers without problems. Do you have any idea on what I have done wrong, and is the MovieSurveyDemo source code available?

Display Over 256 Characters For VARCHAR(3500) Field

Jan 12, 2006

Hopefully, someone can help me.
I am working with a database that contains multiple fields within the tables that are being used for Clinical notes. The fields are defined as VARCHAR(3500). But when I try to extract data (either through Query Analyzer or Crystal Reports), only the first 256 characters are displayed. I ran a query to give me the length of the maximum entry size which returned 2722 characters, yet only 256 are displayed.

How do I go about extracting ALL of the data from this field? Any help is much appreciated.

Multiple Web Viewers And AsyncRendering True

Nov 1, 2007

I have multiple viewers on a web page and initialy would like AsyncRendering = true on all viewers, so I can have the loading message. Once the user drill-through, I hide all other viewers and change to AsyncRendering = false, so the autosizing will work.
But, with AsyncRendering = true (in code behind):
private void SetDominateViewerProperties(ReportViewer rptViewer)
{
rptViewer.AsyncRendering = false;
rptViewer.ShowToolBar = true;
rptViewer.ZoomPercent = 100;
rptViewer.Visible = true;
}
private void SetDefaultViewerProperties(ReportViewer rptViewer)
{
rptViewer.AsyncRendering = true;
rptViewer.ShowToolBar = true;
rptViewer.ZoomPercent = 100;
rptViewer.Visible = true;
}
I have only one viewer showing, even though, I can see in debug that all viewers are set to visible. In SetDefaultViewerProperties, I change rendering to false, I get multiple viewers. Are there combinations of property values I need to set?

Display Hirearchy Data Using Data Region

Jul 9, 2007

I am trying to display hirearchical data using data region. For eg. the first level will be a list of customer names. The second level will be a list of Invoices under each customer. The third level will be a list of product names that were sold under each invoice.

I used a list for the data region and in each hireachy, there is a textbox in each list to display the data. I am trying to associate each data region with a datatable (I will provide the logic to populate the datatable with appropiate data). I do not want the ReportViewer to interact directly with a database because this is a 3 tier design and I am using the ReportViewer in local mode. I couldn't find any example of these. Can anybody help? Also I would like to see an example of the .rdlc file in these situation. Thanks very much.

BCP To Ignore Newline Characters Within The Data?

For some reason, when I am exporting the data, it treats the line return within the comment column as a new record. I am using a -c character data type so (newline character) is the row terminator. How do I get the BCP OUT to ignore a newline character within a record?

For example:
ID~Comment
-- -------
1~This is a comment
2~Hi,how are (user hit carriage)
you (you is part of next row in bcp out)
