Cannot Add A New Folder Under A Reporting Server Project
Apr 11, 2007
Hello,
I was just wondering why is there no option to add a new folder under a reporting server project. I have a reports project and under it i would like to add subfolders like Daily and Weekly just to make it more organized. I understand that during deployment, we can specify to which folder we want the report(s) to be deployed, but what is the reason behind not having an option to add a new folder?
Hi all, I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project? Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I have a folder which contains all the flat files which are used by all the packages(ex--flat file connection managers) in my project. If we want to change the name of the folder, have to change in every package( in all connection managers) manually. It looks hardcoding and timetaking.
Is there any way to change in one place(xml, file, variable) so that it should be affected in all the packages.
one more doubt is..
If we configure the flat file connection manager in package configurations, configuration file (ex-xml)will be created (we can make changes in that file regarding that connecion mgr only.)
But i want one configuration file (ex--xml) so that i should configure the details of all the connection managers used in all packages.
I would like to edit the Folder.aspx, or mainpage.aspx file in sql server reporting services. for example instead of showing sql server reporting services on the top of the folder.aspx page, shows Testing ...
I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC that has SQL Server Express (SSE) and Visual Web Developer Express (VWDE) programs. The Microsoft "pubs" Database is installed in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I created a website in my VWDE program. I need the .mdf file of the pubs Database in the App_Data folder of website of my VWDE project. I think that User Instance in my SSE is established. I have studied Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) and User Instance for a quite a while and I still do not know where and how to use Xcopy to get the mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project. Please help and give me the detailed key steps/instructions about where and how to get the .mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project via Xcopy.
Can someone assist? I'm using the applciation Project Portfolio Server 2006. Have reporting services setup and when I try to create a custom report this is the error I receive:
The report server cannot process the report. The data source connection information has been deleted. More Info: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=20476&EvtSrc=Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ErrorStrings&EvtID=rsInvalidDataSourceReference&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server%20Reporting%20Services&ProdVer=9.00.2047.00
Also does anyone know of a good location for information on troubleshooting Project Portfolio Server 2006? Can't find much good documentation.
I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.
I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message "cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again." After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message. So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.
I want to update value of a custom field for a perticular project in Project Server 2007 using PSI.
I have created 5 enterprise custom fields(A,B,C,D,E) through PWA/Server Settings.
I want to search all Projects on Server. If any project is having value for custom field A then I want to update rest of the custom fields(B,C,D,E) for that perticular project.
I fail to use project professional 2003 to access to the project server 2003 using MSDE 2000 in local area network, following message was shown,
Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error 1326 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()) Connection failed: SQLState '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
I have seen these pages with similiar cases but can't help.
For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I have a problem regarding the generation of report using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services). As I've read from other forums, the said service need access to the Windows temp folder, which by default, is found in C:WINDOWSTemp. The said path is found in either the TMP or the TEMP environment variable. This means that there should be sufficient access to this folder, in order for SSRS to properly generate the report. The problem is that my client, for security reasons, does not want to grant special rights to this folder, using the ASP.NET account. Is there any way that we can change location of the temporary folder being used by SSRS without having to change the value of the TMP and TEMP environment variables? thanks in advance
We have a SQL 2012 SSRS instance. We need to modify the permissions on one of the reporting folders. I went to the Security setting of the folder, clicked "New role assignment", then entered a group name into the box and selected desired permission ("Browser" in this case).
However this always fails with the same error: "The user or group name 'BUILTINBUILTIN' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)"
I always get the same error no matter if I enter user or group, domain or local. And it always says BUILTINBUILTIN. I've tried changing the SSRS service account to a domain account (it was a local one), but that didn't work.
I am trying to create a basic report in SSRS, with 6 columns but then we receive an excel spreadsheet with different account numbers daily and I am requested to create a report based on those account numbers. so how can I create a shared folder for the users to drop their excel spreadsheet there and make my SSRS only filter the result set based only on those account numbers?
I have multiple reports, in multiple folders, that have fields in them and those fields are set to Navigate to the same report. I'd like to store a single copy of the report being navigated to in one hidden folder.
Example Report "Inventory Value" in folder Accounting has the Item Number field set to navigate to the report "Item Details"stored in folder Linked Reports Paths //ReportServer/Accounting/Inventory_Value //ReportServer/Linked_Reports/Item_Details
Can we change the name of the "Home" folder to something else? Â We have 15-20 instances of SSRS, and it would be real useful if I could display an instance name vs. "Home".
There's a new SSRS 2012 environment which was setup with My Reports folder to each user enabled. I know I'm supposed to see a Users Folder in the Report Manager root, I'm setup as a system administrator (under Site Settings) and also have content manager rights in the root directory and I still don't see the "Users Folders" ...the only way I can see that is if they give me admin rights in the server SSRS is installed. What am I missing here, is this supposed to be like that?
We had some problems in deploying the reports to the client. Previously we used to deploy the reports in our development environment through reporting project but now we need to physically deploy the reports to the client on 14 different servers. We don't have access to the reporting project on site. Is there any way to deploy the reports outside reporting project?
I have old sql server 2008 with reporting service and new one 2012 version and I need to move single report folder from old server to new server. Is there any tool or script can make that possible.
I want to give the permission to a user to view only one folder among 10 folders on Home page of report server. I don't want that user to view other folder than his/Her Own folder on report server home page.
I have a question about ssrs security. In report manager I have set a list of users as browsers, and the builtin administrators are content manager in the parent folder where reports are. A user that is not an administrator and neither a user I added, has access to reports.
I'm thinking this person is having access because the data source of the reports use a administrator account to connect to the analysis services  using the option Credentials stored securely in the report server with the 2 checkboxes marked (use as windows credentials when connecting to the data source and impersonate the authenticated user).
I simply marked this option because SSRS is in 1 server and SSAS in other and I think kerberos need to be configured and I haven't looked into it, but I think the report access is separated from the data source.
This issue has been raised in a tangentially related thread (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=301467&SiteID=1) but no thread has been started specific to this issue. When trying to deploy a reporting services project using devenv on the command line, the following error is raised for each report.
Code Snippet
Error : Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created
We have a single solution with multiple reporting services projects, one project for each folder in our directory tree. We are trying to use the solution file as a "make file" by issuing the following batch command.
I could not find The Reporting Service Project Template with Visual Studio 2008. It was available with Visual Studio 2005. How i can add the reporting service project into VS2008?
Hi, I'm having an issue with reporting services installed on a Win2000 machine. I was able to install RS successfully on the server. Everything worked fine, but when I try to deploy a project, SS BIDS keeps asking for a valid password, no matter if I enter any valid password or not. After that if I try to access reporting service, the web interface says:
€œThe report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError) Get Online Help €?
In order to get it back working I have to go to Reporting Services Configuration Manager and mark €œApply default settings€? in Report Server Virtual Directory and Report Manager Virtual Directory. It is worth to say that no matter what project I try to deploy, it is always the same behavior, and that no error log is generated either in event viewer or in the reporting services log directory. Any idea what is happening? Regards, Germán.
Hello, I've created a Report Model Project that can be used by Report Builder to generate ad-hoc reports. I'm trying to create a connection string in my Report Server Project that points to the Report Model Project data source view.
All I can do is create a regular datasource, which bypasses the metadata contained in the Data Source View.
Basically I want my Report Server Project and my Report Builder reports to leverage the same metadata. Is this possible? If so how do I get the connection string?
I am in a project where we are using a vanillla Reporting Services 2005 with the builtin report portal. No sharepoint integration yet.
We have successful deployments where we limit access to different folders based on AD-accounts and groups. In this particular case I have a folder for which I would like to allow access to all AD-users within the entire company.
So basically I know how to limit access but I don't know how to enable access for everyone. Is there a simple way to do it? I have googled and search mshelp but I couldn't find anything. I will admit to the search being quite quick but as usual time is short.
Is there anyway to install a Reporting Services Project that doesn't involve either using the Deploy function from Visual Studio or manually via the upload function in Report Manager?
In other words is it possible to build an msi or a set up file that can be used to install Reporting Service projects?
Hi All,I've been struggling with this for hours...Could someone please advise me on how to convert my current File based SQL Server Express website to a Server based SQL Express one.Particularly interested in what I need to do in the SQL Express management tool, changes I need to make the projecvt itself and changes needed to get IIS to understand things have been changed.Thanks,Martin.
I have an issue as to where only some reports are visible within Report Viewer url. But if I navigate to the path of the rdl's there are many more present that should be visible through Report Viewer. The client was recently upgraded, and I seem to have all out of box roles and permission levels yet can only see some of those reports, as if some were manually copied to this folder location at a later point and perhaps some user job needs to be run to reflect import those additional rdl's?
