Cannot Uninstall Default Instance Of SQL Server 2005 64-bit Reporting Services

Nov 14, 2007

Tried to uninstall SQL Server 64-bit on Windows 2003 remotely. All components uninsntalled properly except Reporting Services.

The log file lists the following error -

/*****

ReportingServicesService!library:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing., ;
Info: Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

*******/

Now I cannot see Reporting Services under Add/Remove programs (ARPWrapper.exe /remove). It is also not displayed when using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (msicuu2.exe). I can start the default instance of RS via Reporting Services Configuration manager and it can also be also started under Windows Services. BTW, the IIS folder structure is under the default website for Reports and ReportServer is present.

So, now how do I go about uninstalling SQL Reporting Services when I cannot see it (as an installed program) without rebuilding the machine ?

Thank you.

Connection String For Default Instance Of SQL Server 2005, On A Box Also Running A Named Instance Of SQL Server 2000

Nov 15, 2007

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.
 I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
However,  I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
 but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but this doesn't work either.

Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated
Thanks...

Location Of Default Instance SQL Server 2005 Files

Dec 21, 2005

I have just installed SQL Server 2005.  I was not given a choice during installation (that I remember seeing anyway) about which drive I wanted to place the default SQL instance on.

It ended up on C: and I needed it on D:.

So my questions are:

Is there a way to move it to D: that is easier than the way you had to go about it in SQL 2000?
Is there a way to do it during setup so I can avoid this in the future?

SQL Server 2005 Standard Will Not Install MSSQL Default Instance

Jun 21, 2007

I installed SQL Server 2005 flawlessly yesterday. When login as "sa" through SQL Server Management Studio, I get an error message saying it cannot connect to my PC.

I checked the MSSQL Server Service. It is not started and cannot be started because it's looking for a path that does not exist!.

The folder in question is missing.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL

The following folders do exist:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2

I initially suspected this problem was cause by a previous MSDE 2000 installation.

I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 & MSDE 2000.
I re-installed SQL Server 2005. Same problem.
I executed
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/320873
to make sure all registries are removed and manually deleted C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server€™s content

Re-installed SQL Server 2005. Same problem.

I do not know what do in order to get SQL Server 2005 up & running.

All help is greatly appreciated.

SQL 2000 Analysis + Reporting Services Uninstall (problem)

Apr 26, 2007

G'day,

I've got a software development PC that was running SQL 2000 + Analysis Services + Reporting Service (sp4 from memory). I then installed SQL Express 2005 and later then SQL 2005 Standard (dev) + Analysis + Reporting and upgraded to Sp2 last month.

To help improve the performance of this poor little PC, I've gone to Control Panel and uninstalled SQL 2000 service. I've also used the SQL 2005 Surface area configuration tool to switch off the SQL Express instance from running. Practically, I probably should remove the $SQLExpress instance.

The problem I'm faced with is the SQL 2000 Analysis and SQL 2000 Reporting service is still registered as Windows Services and showing the the SQL Server Configuration Manager (2005), but there is no uninstall option in the control pannel. So I can't work out how to uninstall these software and services.

It is also apparent that there are a series of "files" in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server80* directory like ..ToolsDevToolssamples*.* directory and others that shouldn't really be there if I've uninstalled SQL 2000 via the control panel.

Is there a SQL 2000 cleanup or removal tool that will help remove these old services and files?

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to cleanup my development PC without the full operating system installation?

How To Uninstall Server 2008 Express Instance With Other Instances Present

May 15, 2015

This is probably easy for some who have done it, but I have an installed Instance of SQL Server 2008 Express or SQL Server 2008 R2 Express I'll call Instance CCC and need to remove it.  I have two other Express instances I'll call Instance AAA and Instance BBB.  I want to uninstall Instance CCC without affecting the other two instances or the software that uses them.  Instance CCC should have been installed as a SQL Server 2012 Express instance, so I need to remove the 2008 Instance of CCC and reinstall it as 2012.  In all cases, I'm talking about SQL Server Express.  Full SQL Server is not installed.

The Instances are all installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard server.

I have read that I can do this through Control Panel  >  Programs and Features, but that I can corrupt or mess up the other instances (AAA and BBB) if I don't do it right.  I'm uneasy about this, not having done it before, and do not want to affect the users of the AAA and BBB instances!

Install Sql 2005 Instance With Reporting Service 2005 On Sql 2000 With RS 2000 Server

Aug 18, 2006

Hi

We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.

If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?

Please help us.

Setting Default Dates In Reporting Services

Mar 26, 2008

Thought I'd help some folks with rs and dates..

here is some scalar valued functions:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_date_only] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, GetDate()), 0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(ms, -3, dateadd (m,datediff(m,0,
dateadd(m,1,@date)),0))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(m,datediff(m,0, @date),0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(ms, -3, datediff(d,0,dateadd(d,1,@today)))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(hh, 12, DATEADD(d,DATEDIFF(d,0, @date),0))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(day, 0, datediff(d,0,@today))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_tomorrow_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(hh, 12, DATEADD(d,DATEDIFF(d,-1, @date),0))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,7-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(ms, -3,
dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,

END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS

dateadd(weekday,1-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,1-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1,0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_end] (@weekday tinyint,
@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-
datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(ms, -3,
dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-datepart(weekday, @date),
@date)),0) )
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_start] (@weekday tinyint,
@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-
datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-datepart(weekday, @date),
@date))-1,0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_year_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(year,DATEDIFF(year,0, @date),0)
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(ms, -3, datediff(d,0,@today))
END

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, -1, datediff(d,0,@today))
END

Then create a Table-Valued Function like so:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udfCommonDates] (@date datetime)
RETURNS @t table (week_start datetime,
week_end datetime,
lastweek_start datetime,
lastweek_end datetime,
month_start datetime,
month_end datetime,
lastmonth_start datetime,
lastmonth_end datetime,
yesterday_start datetime,
yesterday_end datetime,
today_start datetime,
today_end datetime,
thisweek_monday_start datetime,
thisweek_monday_end datetime,
year_start datetime,
year_end datetime,
tomorrow_noon datetime,
today_noon datetime,
date_only datetime)
BEGIN
INSERT @t
SELECT
dbo.get_week_start ( @date ) AS week_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( @date ) AS week_end,
dbo.get_week_start ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_end,
dbo.get_month_start( @date ) AS month_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( @date ) AS month_end,
dbo.get_month_start ( DATEADD(m,-1, @date) ) AS lastmonth_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( DATEADD(m,-1,@date) ) AS lastmonth_end,
dbo.get_yesterday_start ( @date ) AS yesterday_start,
dbo.get_yesterday_end ( @date ) AS yesterday_end,
dbo.get_today_start (@date) AS today_start,
dbo.get_today_end ( @date ) AS today_end,
dbo.get_weekday_start(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_start,
dbo.get_weekday_end(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_end,
dbo.get_year_start(@date) AS year_start,
dbo.get_year_end(@date) AS year_end,
dbo.get_tomorrow_noon(@date) AS TomorrowNoon,
dbo.get_today_noon(@date) AS TodayNoon,
dbo.get_date_only(@date) AS DateOnly
RETURN
END

Now the RS folks might be thinking but how does this help me as I need a dataset and a dataset can only be based on a Stored Procedure or a direct table. No problem create the following stored procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspCommonDates] AS
begin
set datefirst 1
declare @date datetime
set @date = getdate()
select * from dbo.udfCommonDates(@date)
end

Now you've got a stored procedure to use as a dataset...Now in reporting services add a new dataset:

Now go to the report parameters section of the report:

Now pick that dataset dsFunctions (or whatever you called it) and then pick any of the value fields from the scalar functions such as:

Now when you run the report it uses the scalars:

If you have questions feel free to ask :).

Hope this helps someone

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Reporting Services Configuring Default Error Messages

Aug 8, 2007

I have searched the web and have not had any luck on finding the issue to my problem. I'm sure it's probably simple, so here it goes.

When receiving the following error "The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation"

Now, I would like to add to the error message shown above an extra line below it on the web page to reflect something like "Please contact XXX @ XXX if you feel that you need to have your login issue resolved" ...or something meaningful in addition to the default error messages.

I am not getting this error normally, as I have made a typo when login in on purpose! I am just trying to find a way to add more detail to the current error message or change the message to what I want it to say. This would go for any error message received by an end user received through SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.

Do I have to create some sort of filter to read the message coming back from within SOAP? Are these messages stored in ReportingServices database or htm file?

Thanks!

Reporting Services :: DateTime Parameter With NULL Value Is Default

Jul 4, 2015

I have a report with datetime parameter which is required to be optional (there should be an option not to select this parameter which would cause in not narrowing result of this report by this parameter).

I used datetime parameter

@daTo (to have the calendar control for selecting date) and check on "Allow Null" value. Here is default Value.

I've also tried to set DefaultValue expression was "=Nothing".

IN my query of data set, here is the part I use the parameter @daTo
 ... Where (@daTo IS NULL OR TRUNC(@daTo) >= TRUNC(pe.start_time) ....

But when I run the report, I got below error:

ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected DATE got NUMBER

I think it @daTo value actually not null so it try to TRunc the value

I don't know how to set null value default in my report.

Migrating From SQL2K Named Instance To SQL2K5 Default Instance

Feb 19, 2007

Hi, I have a task in hand to migrate (upgrade) from SQL2K named instance to SQL2K5 default instance. There are many intranet applications touching current SQL2K. I would like to perform this upgrade such that I don't have to touch any application code - meaning I don't have to change the connectionstring to point to new Default instance. How can I achieve this?

So, in otherwords, here is what I want to achieve:

Current Server: SQL2K: SERVER_AINSTANCE_A (named instance)

Upgraded Server: SQL2K5: SERVERB (default instance)

If I have both default, I could achive this by setting up DNS alias after migration done so that any call for SERVER_A would point to SERVER_B. But in my case, I don't have SERVER_A, I have named instance. Is there any solution?

Regards,

Vipul
