Closing A Child Package After It Runs

Sep 18, 2007

Hello,

I have a package which runs several child packages. All works well and everything runs, but when it runs each of the children packages, it opens it, runs it and then it stays open. When the whole thing is done, there are about 25 or so open packages. Should they close after they run? Is there a setting I need to do this?

The point I am in SSIS is that I have gotten a decent feel for creating packages, but everything is still in debug mode. I need to take the next step to learn how to have this stuff run automatically or from a procedure outside the SSIS interface. Does that make any sense? If so, where can I learn about that.

Thanks for the help.

Several Different Errors When Creating And Running SSIS Package. Package Runs Successfuly Sometimes.

May 2, 2008

Hi All,

I am in the process of moving from a 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054) to a 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054 with 4 CPUs and 8GB of memory on Win 2003 SP2) and the process has been very frustrating to say the least. I am having a problem with packages that I created on my 64-bit SQL Server. I am importing a few tables from the 32-SQL Server into the 64-bit SQL Server using the Task --> Import to create the package.

Sometimes when I am creating a package I get the following error in a message box:

SQL Server Import and Export Wizard

The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered. The wizard cannot continue and it will terminate.

Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Windows.Forms)

Other times when I run a package that has run successfully before I get the following error:

Faulting application dtexecui.exe, version 9.0.3042.0, stamp 45cd726d, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x025d23f0.

Other times I get this error message:

.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.1433 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (79FFEE24) (80131506)

And still other times

The package appears to hang when running. By this I mean that the Package Execution Progress shows progress up to a point then it just stops. (The package takes about 17 seconds to run normally) CPU usage is at 1% and the package cannot be stopped.

I have deleted and re-created the package several times and I have also re-installed the service pack on the SQL Server (9.0.3054) but that did not help.

Does anyone have any other suggestions to try?

Thanks.

Microsoft Visual Studio Error, Keeps Closing My Package

Apr 3, 2008

I'm in a SSIS Package Design tab working on a data flow. It was working fine up to now, but all of a sudden I keep getting this error that says, "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close." And it has that "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send" button at the bottom. This started happening when I tried to add a Data Viewer on a Data Flow Path. And now every time I do this to try to debug my data flow, it gives me this message and closes my project.

However, the package executes without any package errors, but I as I described above, I can't add a Data Viewer because it keeps giving me this message and closing my package.

SSIS Package Hangs In Data Flow, Magically Works After Opening And Closing Components

Nov 2, 2006

We're experiencing a problem where intermittently our SSIS packages will hang. There are no log errors or events in the event viewer. It will happen whether the package is executed from the SQL Job Agent or run from BIDs. When running from BIDs it appears to hang inside one of the data flows (several parallel pipes with sorts, merge joins etc...). It appears to hang in multiple pipes within the data flow component. The problem is reproducable, we just kill it and re-run, and it appears to hang in the same places.

Now here's the odd thing: as we simply open and close some of the components in the pipe line after the place it hangs, a subsequent run will go further in the pipeline before hanging. If we open and close all the components after the point it initially hung, the data flow will run fine, from there on out. When I say "open and close" I mean no changes are made, we simply double-click the component, like a merge join, then click 'close.'

To me this does not seem like a memory problem but likely something is wrong with the metadata, where opening a component and closing it somehow alters the metadata to "right it".

This seems to occur intermittently after we make modifications to the package. It's like if you make any mod, even unrelated to the data flow, you then have to go through and open and close every component in your package to ensure it will work. Again, no errors or warnings are fired.

Has anyone seen this type of problem?

Execution Of Child Package From Parent Package In Sql Server 2005 Integration Services

May 21, 2007

Hi,

I created a package which passes some infornmations( through parameters) to its child package.

I need to do some processing in parent package based on execution status of child package.i.e.

if child fails then some operation and if child succeeds then other operation.

To determine the status of execution of child package I am using two differnt constraint ..one constraint is having value "Success" and other having value "Failure".

My problem is that when child packge is executed successfully the constraint with value = "Success" works properly but when child fails the constraint with value "Failure" does not work.

Variable In A Foreach Loop Becomes NULL When Package Executed As Child Package

Dec 3, 2007

I have created a SSIS package with a Foreach Loop including a Data Flow Task, which in turn include a Row Count component which pass the row count value to variable with package scope. The variable is used in an Execute SQL Task following the Data Flow Task.

The package executes successfully when executed on its own, but when executed as a child from a parent package (which only include an Execute Package Task) the variable from the Foreach Loop becomes NULL.

There are a lot of other variables in the package receiving values dynamically without any problem, the row count variable however is the only variable in the package that receives a value as part of a Data Flow (and used in following tasks within the Foreach Loop).

Why does the variable become Null? For your information, I am using a variable with package scope and no variables from the parent package are used or passed from the child package to the parent package.

(For your information, we are running the 64 bit version)

Problem When Running A SSIS Master-package-child Package On Non Default Sql-server Instance

Dec 6, 2007

Hi there

We have a SSIS run which runs as follows

The master package has a configuration file, specifying the connect strings
The master package passes these connect-strings to the child packages in a variable
Both master package and child packages have connection managers, setup to use localhost. This is done deliberately to be able to test the packages on individual development pc€™s.
We do not want to change anything inside the packages when deploying to test, and from test to production. All differences will be in the config files (which are pretty fixed, they very seldom change). That way we can be sure that we can deploy to production without any changes at all.

The package is run from the file system, through a job-schedule.

We experience the following when running on a not default sql-server instance (called dkms5253uedw)

Case 1:
The master package starts by executing three sql-scripts (drop foreign key€™s, truncate tables, create foreign key€™s). This works fine.

The master package then executes the first child package. We then in the sysdtslog get:

Error - €ścannot connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

The child package then executes OK, does all it€™s work, and finish. Because there has been an error, the master package then stops with an error.

Case 2:
When we run exactly the same, but with the connection strings in the config file pointing to the default instance (dkms5253), the everything works fine.

Case 3:
When we run exactly the same, again against the dkms5253uedw instance, but now with the exact same databases defined in the default instance, it also works perfect.

Case 4:
When we then stop the sql-server on the default instance, the package faults again, this time with

Error - €śtimeout when connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

And the continues as in the first case

From all this we conclude, that the child package tries to connect to the database before it knows the connection string it gets passed in the variable from the master package. It therefore tries to connect to the default instance, and this only works if the default instance is running and has the same databases defined. As far as we can see, the child package does no work against the default instance (no logging etc.).

We have tried delayed validation in the packages and in the connection managers, but with the same results (error).

So we are desperately hoping that someone can help us solve this problem.

Thanx,
/Nils M - Copenhagen

Parent Package Variable Assignment Issue In Child Package.

Dec 26, 2006

We
have one main package from which 7 other child packages are called. We are using
ParentPackage variables to assign values for variables and database connections.

While the values from ParentPackage variable get assigned to some of the
packages properly, to others it doesn€™t assign the value.

For example:
Except for one of the packages the database connection string gets assigned
properly to all other packages.

Similarly, in another package one of the
variables doesn€™t get assigned. In other packages it is assigned properly.

We
have checked all the other property values and they are exactly the same.

We cannot make any head or tail of this erratic behavior.

Please Help.

Configure A Child Package To Use The Configuration File Of A Parent Package?

Sep 14, 2006

Hi guys,

Here's the deal. I have a child package, (say, pack01.dtsx), which uses a dtsconfig file for its connection string, which can be called from other packages, but which also can be called by itself.

However I also have another package (say, pack02.dtsx) which uses the same dtsconfig file for its connection string. It calls on pack01.dtsx.

When I use DTEXECUI and run pack01.dtsx, specifying the proper .dtsconfig file, it goes well. But when I try and run pack02.dtsx, an error occurs saying pack01.dtsx connection cannot be established.

How do I pass the connectionstring being used by pack02 to pack01, without having to remove the configuration file setting of pack01? Can a Parent Package configuration and a configuration file try and map to the same property?

Hope someone could help. Thanks.

Resume Parent Package After Child Package Failure...

Apr 23, 2007

Hello All,

I have a SSIS Package with a "Execute Package Task" to call a child package. I am trying to have the master/parent package complete its execution regardless the outcome (failure or success) of the child package. The overall structure of the master package is:

1. Perform Pre-load tasks (stored procedure).

2. Execute Package Task (call child package)

3. Perform Post-load Tasks (stored procedure)

I have try everything and cannot get the results that I want... I have tried the combination of "failparentonfailure", "forceexecutionvalue", etc. The master package stops at childs failure. I would like to resume to completion

Any ideas out there?

Package Is Not Able To Create Process To Execute Child Package.

Jul 3, 2007

Hi,
In my application, i have two package, parent package and child package. the parent package is executing child package using a Execute Package Task.
"Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to TRUE. means the child package will be run in separate process not in the process of Parent package.
this was working fine, but at a particular client location. its failing the error is "not able to load child package".
for me it seems some setting on server restricting to create separate process for child package execution.
when "Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to FALSE. its working fine.

can anyone help what could cause its failure with property set to TRUE.

Appreciate any help.

Occasionally, I have one child package which starts up and appears to finish but the parent package never gets notification that the child has finished. If I view this in Management Studio's in Integration Services, I can view the packages that are running and only the parent package is running. Because it never gets control back, the next child package will never get started and the parent package will continue to run and never finish.

Any idea what could be happening??

Parent Package Call To Child Package

Apr 30, 2007

I run into some issues and really need some expert help here.

Here is the problem. I have two packages (parent.dtsx and child.dtsx). Both package have its own configuration file (parent.dtsConfig and child.dtsConfig). The file Child.dtsConfig contains a variable (i.e. "X") that is to be used by Child.dtsx.

Inside parent.dtsx. there is a package-task that calls into Child.dtsx. It worked perfectly well if I run parent.dtsx using Dtexec or from inside SSIS's IDE.

Now I want to programmably call "parent.dtsx" from my C# code. I loaded package using "app.LoadPackage"... Inside C# code, I want to reconfigure Child-package's variable ("X"). I then loaded in "Child.dtsx". However when I run "parent.dtsx" and child.dtsx still loads the original value for "X". The reconfigured value for "X" is not updated.

Please help on how to get around this issue.

Thanks.

HELP: Package Runs...job Fails!

Dec 18, 2000

I'm trying to run a job which moves data from one machine to another. I can manually execute the package successfully, but the job always fails. I get the dreaded error message 18456, "login failis for user "". I have double checked the logins for both machines,(sql server agent AND the sql server authentication).
Also, I can run a select statement (from server_ to server_2) successfully from query analyzer i.e.

Select *
from <linked_server_name>.<database>.<database_owner>.<table_name>

however, if I run this query from server_2 to server_1 I get the failed login message similar to the error message found in the job history. Since both servers accept nt logins, where is my problem? They are both set up as linked servers, and they are both mssql oledb.
Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Job Fails Though Package Runs

Dec 31, 2007

Like the name says, I'm trying hard, but I'm obviously missing something. Okay, I'm new to SSIS. I'm trying to write a job that deletes some Excel files on the server, copies some Excel files from a Sharepoint instance to the location where the deleted files were, runs an executable to manipulate those files, and then imports them to my SS instance.

the package runs fine when I run it from Managment Studio after installing it on the server. The 'execute task' fails when I run the job containing the package. After creating a proxy to have the SQL Server agent Service run with appropriate permissions, I thought I would have been rid of permissions issues (I gave the proxy way too much permission in an effort to narrow in on my issue), but I could still be missing something.

The job doesn't get into the package enough to even start writing to my log file, and all I get in the job history is the very cryptic 'DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1) ' error. If anyone has ideas, I would greatly appreciate being shown the error of my ways.

Thanks!

DTS Local Package Runs But Not Its Scheduled Job

May 11, 2000

I have a Local DTS Package that I created that runs fine. I have scheduled it to run daily but it errors out when run it from the agent. This is an excerpt of the error from the Job history.

Delete from Table [Intranet].[dbo].[Employees] Step, Error = -2147217887 (80040E21)

This Local DTS Package, deletes the records in the file and reimports the data from an AS400 file that is recreated for me daily.

The only thing that has occured to me so far is that perhaps the SQL Agent Service Account needs permission to delete the records. (I'm using NT Security).

Am I on the right track or do you think it's something else?

Create New Scheduled Job Which Runs A Dts Package

Nov 28, 2007

Hello Experts,

I found some similar threads and guides but they didn€™t help me with my special problem.

I converted a dts package (built in SQL 2000) to SQL 2005. Right now it€™s a legacy package.
(I tried the Tool Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components to open the package. It€™s going well)

I would like to build a scheduled job which runs this dts package.
In SQL 2000 you can right click on the package and create the job.
SQL created string like this:
Dtsrun ASDFHJKSF56A4DFSLAKDHFJKS65646ASDFHSF (very long sting, it€™s the ID of the dts package)

How can I make something like this in SQL 2005?
Where I can get the ID of a dts package from?

Best Regards,
Alex

SSIS Package Runs Slowly

Hi,
I need to transfer the data in A table on a 2005 instance to B table which has the same structure as A table on a 2000 instance. There are 200,000 records in A table. If I use <insert B select * from linkedserver.....>, it takes only 30 seconds. I create a SSIS package to do this. But it is very slow. After it runs 10 minutes I have to stop it. And I find that it transfers about 100 records every second. Then I change the source server and destination server. That is transferring the same data from the 2000 instance to the 2005 instance. It takes only 50 seconds. why? How to make the package used for transfer data from the 2005 instance to the 2000 instance run fast?

This one is driving me crazy, can't figure it out. Any idea's?
