Table name is
Sales
Field is called Sales Date
I want to convert the Sales Date to Month to work out monthly sales

However, when I try to create it and CONVERT it to a DECIMAL, it then loses the "0"
SELECTCONVERT(DECIMAL(8,0),RIGHT('00000000'+CONVERT(VARCHAR,REPLACE(CONVERT(VARCHAR,GETDATE(),101),'/','')),8))
Is it impossible to convert it to a decimal and retain the leading "0" on the month?
My vendor's spec states..."Business Date Numeric For 8 positions MMDDYYYY"

I have this SQL table w/ fieldname "PayPeriod". Sample value of PayPeriod are SEP06-1, SEP06-2, OCT06-1, OCT06-2... Wherein the first 3 chars is the month, 06 is the year, 1 or 2 is the cutoff where 1 means the 2nd half of the previous month and 2 is the first half of the current month.
Now my questions are:
1.) How can I select these values sorted according to date. Since this is a character data type. Sorting is alphabetical. I need to sort it according to date where JAN05-1 is the first record and the last record is DEC06-2 (assuming that the oldest year is 05 and 06 is the latest).
2.) How can I convert the 3 char month into its number equivalent. Example, JAN is equal to 1, FEB is 2, MAR is 3....
3.) How can I count the no. of days in a month? Is there a function that would result to the no. of days in a given month?

Jul 23, 2005Using SQL 2000. I need to select rows based on a date range. Both thebeginning date and ending date of the range will be entered in themm/dd/yy format. There are 2 columns in the table called MonthOfEvaland YearOfEval, both varchar(9) and both with data like "August" and"2005-2006". I think I need to use these 2 columns to create a date inthe mm/dd/yy format, then use that newly created date to see if it'swithin the date range. How would I go about doing this or is there abetter way?Thanks for any help or advice.

I have one column having date in format YYYYMMDD(20070929) and corresponding column in SQL is datetime, but it fails on data type mismatch.
I have no choice of making date column in SQL to string or Varchar etc,
is there any way to make that date column in SQL to convert the value upon transformation from format (YYYYMMDD) to M/DD/YYYY (9/29/2007).

I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).
I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.
The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?

this works fin in my development environment which has a spanish version of SQL Server and uses "DD/MM/YYYY" as date format.
but the production environment has an english version of SQL Server and "MM/DD/YYYY" date format, so the package crashes in this server.
How do I convert the string to date not depending on the SQL server language.

Feb 2, 2006Hi all,I have a SP that is passed a date, and then need to do a test of some data returned from the DB by getting the passed Date, finding out its month, and then using the BETWEEN clause to get all rows from teh DB where their date falls between the 1st and the last (28th, 30th, 31st) of the month contained in the Date that is passed to the SP. I currently have the following SQL in my WHERE clause to get the first day of the month, but it seems long-winded. First I have problem to get queries specially for first date in the month, I used CAST but it doesn't work, then I used CONVERT and CAST still doesn't work.

Jan 8, 2013I have a table in which a date value is stored as varchar.some of these values are stored ina dd/mm/yyyy format and other values are stored in a yyyy-mm-dd format..Now I wish to retrieve some data by querying between two dates. However I need to convert the varchar date value to datetime in order to do this but since the date value is in two different formats, the following doesn't work.
select date_value
from my_table
where CONVERT(DATETIME, date_value, 103) between @date1 and @date2
How can you convert the date value to datetime when its stored in mutiple formats. I can't change the table itself as I dont have admin privelages.
