This is a problem that never get solved, sometime I can use other way to avoid it, but havn't found a solution yet, i hope I can get some more idea here.
I am using SQL 2005, when I run
select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]')
I get
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)".
when I try to compile a SP with that statement in it, I get the same error, like
create stored procedure test
as begin
select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]')
end
so it seems the error may not relate to the real file, since at the compile stage, it should not check the real file?
On my live db, after I restart the SQL service, the statement will work, after a while, one or several days, I get the same error again. I can not restart my live db quite often for sure, so now I have another backup db server, I need run the statement on the backup server and then read the data from there.
I have the same problem at two places, both use SQL 2005.
So far there are three questions
1, why it works after restart, but only last for a while? something about memory? since the backup db seldom need restart and work fine after many days.
2, why it gives error in compile stage?
3, why two dbs in different Enviroment has the same problem
The most answer I have gathered so far is permission issue, true I got similar error if the import file is located in a place which SQL has no right to access. But in this case, it should not be.
I want to create a table in MS-Access. So I have written the following query.
Code Snippet select * from Openquery(KKACC, 'select * Into Temp from Table select 1 as col1')
But I am getting the following error.
Code Snippet
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "KKACC" returned message "Syntax error in FROM clause.". Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An error occurred while preparing the query "select * Into Temp from Table select 1 as col1" for execution against OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "KKACC".
How can I resolve this error. Does any one have any work arround for this..?
I am writing an interface between SQL Server and Access. I have chosen to use a linked server using the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider. One of the requirements is to have multiple SQL statements in one transaction, which is where I am encountering the problem. (see below)
BEGIN TRAN
INSERT INTO ACCES...Table
Msg 7390, Level 16, State 2, Line 2
The requested operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "HES" does not support the required transaction interface.
I am having a really really hard time finding documentation on the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider, specifically I want to know for sure if it supports the ITransactionJoin interface.
The main question is - does MS Access linked servers support transactions?
Thank you for your help,
I have exausted all resources available to me in finding out the answer.
When executing the select statement I get following error message
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "XLS" returned message "Unspecified error".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "XLS".
Strange is that when I run this code on dev machine it works fine. But when I try to execute it on my second (pilot) machine it ends with the error message posted. I'm not a admin on the pilot machine so I don't know it's exact configuration but I'm beeing assured that the only difference is that on pilot machine there is no Visual Studio installed.
I have an SSIS job that is pumping to a SQL Server Destination, hundreds of gigabytes of raw text files. Today I received this strange error ? Also, how would I make the data tasks more stable and robust so that this doesn't cause package failure (retries, or something?)

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" has not been registered
Enviromnet :
Windows 2003 64 bit with SP1 and sql 2005 installed.
Same code is executing fine in my local machine which is XP 32 bit.
Can some one help me in resolving this issue.
Also when I tried to check the providers by expanding the linked servers node in the SQL server management studio . i couldnt found the provider for jet.
Previously i was using oracle8i with ssis.ssis was working fine.later i have upgraded 8i to oracle 9i.now when ever i try to establish a new connection using Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Oracle.i am getting the following error "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle" .but i am able to access the oracle 9i database thru pl/sql and toad. what could be the problem?
I am on an XP Pro 32-bit laptop, running SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I want to import an Excel spreadsheet into one of my databases using (formerly known as) DTS. The Excel spreadsheet was created in 2003 (I have Office 2007 installed on this laptop). Whenever I try and do any OleDb import, I get the error:
TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard ------------------------------ The operation could not be completed. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. (System.Data) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------
I cannot install/reinstall MDAC because I have the latest version. What else can I try?
As additional information, I also get the error when trying to import anything into or export anything out of Access 2007. I'm pretty sure MDAC is awful, but I still need OleDb providers for much of the work I am doing.
Hi! I have just installed Microsoft OLEDB provider for DB2 on a SQL server 2005. I created a Linked server against our DB2 V.8 Z/OS database. I tested the connection via execution of a simple select call, something like:
SELECT FIELD_A FROM DB2SRV.DB2DB.CREATOR_A.TABLE_A WHERE FIELD_A='ABC'
I traced the call on the DB2 site. The SQL running on DB2 site was to my surprise without the €œwhere clause€?:
SELECT FIELD_A FROM DB2DB.CREATOR_A.TABLE_A
So, all rows are moved to SQL server before the where clause is executed, resulting in bad performance. The index on FIELD_A is not used and so on €¦ !
If anyone out there has an idea of what could be wrong, please let me know!
NB. I know that by using OPENQUERY pass-through query, all execution is done on the DB2 site.
Has anyone successfully used cherry's oledb provider for MYSQL to create a linked server from MS SQLserver 2005 to a Linux red hat platform running MYSQL.
I can not get it to work.
I've created a UDL which tests fine. it looks like this
[oledb]
; Everything after this line is an OLE DB initstring
Can anyone help me in connecting sql server and asp. Wheneever try to do the connection, I am getting following error. All the connection string which i am using are correct.
<% '----- Setup database connection Set DataCmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set rsData = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet") Dim varTempTableName

I'm trying to get data from as400 server to sql server, trough a job. The job executes a stored procedure that retrieves data from a view in an other database on the same server. That view gets the data from as400. Now, when i run the mentioned stored procedure in the query analyzer, everything works fine, but when the stored procedure is executed from the scheduled job, it fails each time giving the error
"Could not get the column information from the OLE DB provider 'IBMDA400'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7350). The step failed."
on random points during that process (by that i mean the lenght of time it runs)
does anyone know what the diffrence is between executing an sp in query analyzer or using a job, keeping in mind retrieving data from as400?
After disconnected from VPN (Cisco) , I am not able to connect to my SQL. Getting the error Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timed Out.
Restarting the SQL Server or Reset IIS, nothing works.
If I restart the machine, it works fine again. If I don't connect to VPN, I have no problem.
I am wondering that might be the problem. I enabled all the protocols.
I have posted this also in one forum. Somebody might have idea here.
We have four Windows 2003 advance servers with SP 3 configured on NLB. Each of them has one NIC. Recently we started to get frequent time-out error messages from web applications on those servers when they try to establish the connection with the SQL 2005. If you run web pages application to connect to sql server 10 times, 9 times you will get good connection results and 1 time you will get time-out.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timeout expired /common/mypage.asp, line 20
Connection to sql server is established with the connection string. Any idea how to solve this problem? Is there a connectionproblem? from NLB to Web to SQL?
We have tried doing some suggestions (e.g. LMHOST, IP, domain account for WEb to SQL connection, the Query Wait in SQL advance property.), but seems this timeout expired still exist
On my dev server I have working ssis packages that use connections Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle MSDAORA.1 and Oracle provider for oledb and OracleClient data provider.
I use one or the other according to my needs.
In anticipation and to prepare for the build of a new production server, I have build a test server from scratch and deployed to it the entire dev.
Almost everything works except Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.
ssis packages on the test machine will return an error
Error at Pull Calendar from One [OLE DB Source [1]]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "one.oledb" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Error at Pull Calendar from One [DTS.Pipeline]: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".
I have used the same installers for OS, SQL and Oracle SQL*Net on both dev and test machines. The install and then the restore/deployment on Test went fine.
Does anyone could point me to the right direction to solve this issue?
I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle. My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails. I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.
I am in process of transfering data from Sybase to Sql Server using SSIS 2005
have taken a Data Flow Task in Control Flow tab
In Data flow tab, I have taken one Ole DB Source and One OLe DB Destination
For the source, I am using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Provider 8.0
For Destination, I am using Sql Server 2005 database
In Ole Db Source Editor , For OLe Db Connection Manager, I choose Sybase Connection For Data access mode, I choose Table or View For Name of the table or the view, I choose a table by name Table1( it lists all the tables from Sybase database)
When i click on preview button or Columns link, I get the following Error
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Unable to retrieve column information from the data source. Make sure your target table in the database is available.
We have a SQL2005 server install running on a Win2003 Server. It has a linked server to iHistorian using the iHOLEDB provider for iHistorian. Randomly and after a few execution to this provider, we start getting errors
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "IhOLEDB.iHistorian" for linked server "fspheafhs1".I created a data source in VS2005 for BI on the SQL server using the iholedb provider. This was successful. However, all queries or OPENQUERY statements to the linked server fail. This seems to continue until SQL Server is restarted. Does anyone know how to reset a provider in SQL Server or tell if the SQL Server is having trouble with the provider? There are no message in the SQL Error Log. Again the provider continues to work outside of SQL Server, but no longer can be accessed from within SQL Server. Thanks in advance.
Hallo i'm trying to connect a VFP DBC as a linked server on MSSQL2000sp3a, using following parameters:
Product name: VFP
Data source: \networkpath odbc
Provider: VFPOLEDB.1
No security context I'm trying the same operation both from a W2000sp4 server (+ MDAC 2.8sp1 ?) and a WXPPsp2, against two identical copies of the DBC that resides on two different path (one on the final path and one on a test path). From WXPPsp2 everything runs ok, from W2000 i'm always getting this error: Error 7399: OLE/DB Provider 'VFPOLEDB' IUnknown::QueryINterface returned 0x80070005: Access Denied (already reported in this thread, http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1832362&SiteID=1 but it didn't helped me)
The error happens independently from the user the query runs under (basicly AD account, both domain admin and normal user). MSSQL runs under a domain account which have full permissions (for test purpose) on the directories where DBC reside.
I did no further modifications on the WXP machine in order to have the linked server running, simply it ran smoothly from the beginning.
Clearly the difference rely on the different OS... but what else?
i ran component checker to determine the MDAC version but some components version numbers slightly differs from the expected ones (eg. resulting version is 2.0.1064 versus 2.0.1022 expected in MDAC 2.8) so i suppose to have MDAC2.8 sp1 on the server. thanks in advance
I'm currently having an issue with a linked server. Here's the surrounding information:
A) I have a clustered SQL Server 2005 Instance (A) and a SQL Server 2000 instance (B). B) There is a linked server on A to B. When I set it up, I did run the fix to ensure A could talk to B (There was an issue with communication between 2005 and 2000 servers). It has been there since I installed A, and has worked fine.. Until last week. C) This linked server uses static credentials to connect to B. D) Named Pipes are enabled on both servers to listen to both connections on both A and B in cliconfg. So A has a named pipe listening for B, and B has a named pipe listening for A. E) A has a view that looks at a table on B - It's a table view, very simple, just pulls in all the data from the table on B.
So, I go to do a select statement from the view, connected as a user other then 'sa'. I then get the error:
Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server Linked Server Error Source: ncli Client (Paraphrasing, didn't copy that down, but it was the ODBC connector)
Well, that's odd. It's been working fine for months now..
I then go and connect as sa on A to query B. It works! Mind you, absolutely NO QUERY from A to B will run again until I run SOME kind of query has been run as sa on A.
Mind you, this is not a credential issue. Every user who connects to the linked server to B uses a stored credential that is DBO to the database on B. The same User Name and Password exists on both A and B.
Also of note, I check the activity monitor. There's a process that is "dormant" every time I run a query against the view. The details of this connection are:
sp_reset_connection;1
My question is, why is it resetting the connection on B when being queried from A? Why is it "all of a sudden" a problem? Are there any changes that coudl ahve been made that would cause this?
Any help with this confusing issue would be appreciated.
After installing sql2005 sp2 a simple select query to a linked server reports the following error message:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded. Before installing SP2 we used sql2005 without any service packs, the linked server worked fine.
The linked server is a Visual FoxPro database.
After uninstalling and installing the 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0' the issue stil remains.
I'm working on an OLE DB provider. This provider is supposed to retrieve data from managed application running in background. The data retrieval is handled by C# component communicating with source application via remoting, the data are then exposed via component's COM interface. OLE DB provider itself instantiates the communication component.
Now, the problem: this worked ok in SQL server 2000, but it doesn't seem to work in SQL server express edition. Concretely, the communication component fails to get created (CoCreateInstance ends with 'class not registered') and SQL server logs this:
2007-08-24 14:48:49.42 spid51 Error: 6511, Severity: 16, State: 20. 2007-08-24 14:48:49.42 spid51 Failed to initialize the Common Language Runtime (CLR) v2.0.50727 with HRESULT 0x80131022. You may fix the problem and try again later.
I've googled a bit and found out someone else getting this message, and he was told something like 'trying to load CLR in some cases is disabled in newer (>2000) versions of SQL server'.
Now, I have very little knowledge of SQL server, CLR integration etc., so I'm not sure whether this applies to my case as well, but I think so - that problematic COM object is C#-based.
I'd be glad for any hints, ideas how to solve this issue, I just need the OLE DB provider to be able to access that managed application.
I have an stored procedure which is called by using ADO and OLEDB. I wish that when an error occurs (such as when a contraint is violated or trying to insert NULL in a not-null column) the error message is stored on an output parameter and returned to the client, without the error being raised by the OLEDB Provider.
I just installed a SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 instance on a server with an existing SQL Server 2000 SP3 installation. (I need SQL Server 2005's INSERT from an EXEC capability). It's working great now except for one thing: I can't link any other SQL servers! I've already successfully added and queried a linked Oracle server, but attempting to add a linked SQL server gives me the following error, no matter which SQL provider I try to use:
Code Snippet "The linked server has been created but failed a connection test. Do you want to keep the linked server?" Additional information: --> An exception occured while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo) --> Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SERVERNAME". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7302)
The technical details reveal the error source as "sp_testlinkedserver".
I've scoured the net and premier support for advice on this problem, but the little I found wasn't helpful. I've tried reinstalling the SQL Native Client, but it didn't help. I've tried uninstalling SQL Server 2005 Express completely (including management studio and native client), rebooting, and reinstalling everything, with no luck. The server (obviously) does not have a firewall enabled. I've tried stopping the SQL 2000 Server installed on the system, no help. If I create a test .UDL file on the system, pointing to any of the SQL servers I'm trying to link, clicking the "Test Connection" button returns successful. I'm also able to connect to and query the servers directly from the SQL 2005 Express Management Studio. I just can't add them as linked servers.
The server is running Windows 2003 SP1, SQL Server 2000 SP3, and SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 (the default "SQLExpress" named instance). I've tried setting up SQL 2005 Express to run under the network service account and under a domain account used by the other SQL 2000 servers.
From other SQL 2000 servers, I can connect and link to the SQL Server 2005 Express instance successfully. I can also successfully add linked SQL servers in SQL Server 2000 instance installed on the same server. Only adding linked SQL servers in 2005 Express seems to be broken.
Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm totally baffled. Thank you so much for any helpful advice.
Window Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (x64) SP1 Sql Server 2000 8.00.2039 SP4 Enterprise Edition (32 bit version)
A linked server is configured to a sql 2000 server and when I execute sql statement SELECT * FROM [LinkedServer].[Database].[dbo].[TableName] it gives following error message: -
